Workshop on Endodontics at Dental College, PU

A day long workshop was organized by the Department of Conservative Dentistry and Endodontics of Dr. Harvansh Singh Judge Institute of Dental Sciences and Hospital, Panjab University, Chandigarh today.  The theme of the event was – “Magnification and Glide Path Management in Endodontics key to success” which was presided over by Dr. Jagat Bhushan, Controller of Examination, Panjab University, Chandigarh.    

            The workshop comprised of lecture  and hands on by Dr. Rahul Grover, an eminent Endodontics who has expertise in Microscopes and Rotary Endodontics.

            Accordingly to Dr. Ruchi Singla, Convener, the event was attended by 100 students and faculty of the Institute and adjoining dental colleges who gathered to dive into this sea of knowledge.

PU DIC, UIET, Awarded STARTUP Grant

A 7 member student team from Design Innovation Centre(DIC), Panjab University has been funded Rs.5,50,000/- by MHRD, Institution’s Innovation Council(IIC) for developing a Filament Extruder Machine START-UP.

For Detailed News-

UIET is the only team from North India to have been funded, out of a total 131 teams across the country. IIC-Panjab University inspired a multi-disciplinary B.E. student team-Ishank Bansal(Team Lead), Shubham Rattra, Tanya Aggarwal, Sachin Singh, Navudhay Pratap Singh, Vivek Mishra and Sakshi Gandhi under the able mentorship of faculty members -Dr Prashant Jindal,  Dr Mamta Juneja and Dr Rakesh Tuli to develop this innovative product. This machine has been going through various design upgradations over the past 1 year in the Medical Devices & Restorative Technologies lab at DIC, UIET, Panjab University, Chandigarh 

This team competed in the 2nd edition of IIC-National Innovation Contest (2020) where the students from IIC-Institutes took part in this competition that was designed in a way where each team will traverse a path from problem identification and ideation to building business model and finally entering the phase of Enterprise development in a time period of one year process through multiple elimination rounds that were conducted in an online  mode due to pandemic to identify the most innovative and useful Proof of Concepts(PoCs) developed by engineering students. 

A total of 9000 plus teams were  scouted from more than 900  IIC institutions across India and got 1400 odd best prototype nominations from Institutes for further evaluation and support. After multiple rounds of evaluation and mentoring rounds and training, finally 410 reached a level of development of a business plan for their innovations. Students cleared competitive rounds of evaluation which involved extensive knowledge of business plan, clinical trials and commercialization aspects. 

Then finally 131 teams from the program NIC 2020 and YUKTI2l.0 were selected for finals and after going through rounds of assessment and pitching, finally, 45 teams were selected for funding and incubation linkage support.

Out of these,  team  UIET was finally selected for Grant Support of Rs.5,50,000/- and Incubation Linkage by MHRD. 

The startup Simply 3D is a 3D sector-based venture that develops and constructs wire extruder machines that produce low-cost filaments used for FDM-based 3D printing by utilizing waste/virgin plastic shredded pellets. This machine was developed with the funding and technical support from DIC (Medical Devices & Restorative Technologies lab) and aspire to contribute towards the Made-in-India policy by setting up India-based wire extruder machine manufacturing venture and by allowing customers to shop and invest in a sustained environment for 3D printing by reducing plastic waste consumption.

Mayor inaugurates civil dispensary at Sector 39 D

Chandigarh, November 18:- Sh. Ravi Kant Sharma, Mayor, Chandigarh today inaugurated civil dispensary at sector 39 D, here today in the presence of Ms. Anindita Mitra, IAS, Commissioner, Smt. Gurbax Rawat, area councilor, other councilors and prominent persons of the area.

While speaking on the occasion after inaugurating the dispensary, the Mayor applauded the Municipal Corporation for providing better facilities for the citizens of Chandigarh. He said that the MCC improving and upgrading the existing infrastructure facilities in the sector of Primary Health and providing new dispensaries in other areas. He said that people of the area will have primary health services nearby their doorsteps with the provision of this dispensary.

The Mayor said that the dispensary in sector 39 has been spread in 686 square meter covered area of the building. The expenditure has been incurred to the tune of Rs. 2.63 crores in construction of the building and has been completed within stipulated time period.

He further said that this necessities of health services in the building have been provided comprising registration room, doctor’s examination room, laboratory, injection room, HIV, Maleria lab, vaccination & family welfare room, RNTCP/DOT centre, sterilization/injection/dressing/ pharmacy room, toilet blocks for ladies, gents and physically challenged and chowkidar room with kitchen and toilet besides parking space for 25 cars inside the dispensary compound.

PU Departmental Canteens to open with new guidelines

Chandigarh November 18, 2021

A committee constituted by Prof. Raj Kumar, Vice Chancellor, Panjab University, Chandigarh with regard to running of departmental canteens of Physics, Chemistry and Geology finalised the directions for the same which are as under:-

For Detailed News-

·        Departmental canteens be operated on the pattern of Tuck shops

·        Packed food be served. No cooking be allowed

·        Gas Cylinders not to be used in such canteens.

·        Electrical Oven, Induction plates and Vending machines for tea/coffee and re-heating of cooked food may be permitted.

·        Timings of the departmental canteens be restricted from 9.00 am to 6.00 pm

·        There should be no preparation of breakfast, lunch and dinner in these canteens.

·        Provisions of Chairs and tables be allowed only within the built up area of the canteen and on violation of this, a fine of Rs. 5000/- be imposed after any such violation is reported by the Chairperson of the concerned department.

“As high blood sugar level can cause multi problems in the body, while kidney diseases are most common in people with diabetes. About 30% of patients with Type 1 (juvenile onset) diabetes and 10-40% of those with Type 2 (adult onset) diabetes will eventually suffer from kidney failure”, said Dr Chhaminder Jeet Singh, Consultant Nephrologist and Renal Transplant Physician, Grecian Super Specialty Hospital, Mohali.

While interacting with senior citizens on ‘Diabetes and its effects on Kidneys’, Dr Chhaminder Jeet Singh further said albumin/protein in the urine, high blood pressure, ankle and leg swelling, leg cramps, going to the bathroom more often at night, high levels of urea and creatinine in blood, less need for insulin or anti-diabetic medications, morning sickness, nausea and vomiting, weakness, paleness and anaemia and itching, are few sings which indicates that the diabetic patients are suffering from kidney diseases.

Early diagnosis of kidney diseases and diabetes can have lifetime benefits by controlling the progression of the disease, increasing life expectancy, decreasing the humanistic and economic burden, he further added. 

Meanwhile, Dr Pooja Chauhan, Consultant General Medicine, Grecian Super Specialty Hospital, Mohali, said, “The earliest sign of diabetic kidney disease is an increased excretion of albumin in the urine. This is present long before the usual tests done in your doctor’s office show evidence of kidney disease, so it is important for you to have this test on a yearly basis.”

Road Committee meeting held

Discussions Held for Making The Campus Plastic Free

With the  objective of  making  Panjab University campus and its affiliated colleges, clean and green, a delegation from Hariyawal Chandigarh, NGO visited Prof Raj Kumar Vice Chancellor, PU in his office. 

            Those visited included  Padma Shri, singer Ms Anuradha Poudwal,Sh Kapil Setia,Chief Architect ,Sh Praveen Choubey, NSS Programm Officer,Sec 46,PG Govt College and Sh Rajiv Gupta, Dy Convenor,Hariyawal. Prof Gaurav Gaur, Chairman, Centre for Social Work and NSS Program Officer, PU also present.

            Discussions were also held for making the  campus and colleges plastic free and exploring ways of  increasing ground water levels. For the success of the above issues,  it was decided to involve students.

Procession at PU on winning MAKA Trophy

Panjab University, Chandigarh took out a procession on winning Maulana Abul Kalam Azad (MAKA), here today, which was graced by Prof. Raj Kumar, Vice Chancellor (VC) and all Senior PU Officials, Sports Coaches, Administrative & Ground Staff of the Directorate of Sports, students and staff.

            PU VC congratulated all for this incredible achievement and assured all possible facilities to be provided to the sports persons for achieving still more in the field of sports.

            The procession was for making a hat trick for MAKA after winning the trophy for the year 2019-20, 2020-21. Earlier, in 2019 also, PU won the trophy. PU made hat trick after a long span of 50 years.

            The procession started from the office of Vice-Chancellor, PU amidst beats of dhol and bhangra by students and staff of PU. The MAKA trophy was taken on an open flower laden jeep with PU VC, Prof. Prashant Gautam, Director, Physical Education and Sports, Sh. Vikram Nayyar, officiating Registrar and Finance & Development Officer, Prof. Anju Suri, Dean College Development Council, Prof. S.K. Tomar, Dean Research, Sh. Rakesh Malik, Deputy Director of Sports and Ms. Neeru Malik, PU Fellow.
