The Alternate Dispute Resolution(ADR) and Client Counseling Competition(CCL) Board of University Institute of Legal Studies, Panjab University, is announcing the results of the first Arbitration Award Writing Competition on 1th May 2020.
The ceremony will take place through the online medium. Justice Rajive Bhalla will be the Chief Guest. Prof.R.K. Singla,DUI will be the guest of honour. The event is being organised under the guidance of the Faculty Chair, Prof. Shruti Bedi and the teacher coordinators and Prof. Rattan Singh, Director, UILS.
This is the first edition of the Intra Department Arbitration Award Writing Competition 2020. This is the first time Arbitration Award Writing was introduced by the board through online aids to make sure students make the most of this quarantine.
It was well received by the students and the competition saw tremendous response. Demo sessions, online study material and talks by various professionals were made available to the participants to ensure that they are able to put their best foot forward. The final proposition was drafted by the members of the Board as well. As many as 50 entries were received from the participants.
Rekha Jhanji, former Professor of Philosophy, and wife of Prof. Bhupinder Brar, former Dean of University Instructions, Panjab University passed away on 8th May.
A renowned scholar of Indian Aesthetics and Existential thought, Phenomenology and Hermeneutics, she was also the founder coordinator of the UGC center for Swami Vivekananda Studies, Panjab University. She had two PhDs, one from Panjab University and the other from University of Paris X Nanterre, France. She remained associated with IIAS, Shimla as Senior Fellow for three years. Some of her seminal contribution in the field include Philosophy of Vivekananda, ‘The Human Condition in the Mahabharata, The Sensuous in Art: Reflections on Indian Aesthetics, Aesthetic Communication: The Indian Perspective . She was a prolific writer and her scholarly articles were published in journals like Comparative Aesthetics, Contemporary European Philosophy, Philosophy of Mind among others.
Throughout her academic life , she maintained an abiding interest in elucidating the relevance of Indian Philosophy for our times. Her last project was on the Two Dimensions of Embodiment in the Indian Tradition. In her passing away the Indian Academia and Panjab University in particular have lost a dedicated scholar with great human values.

The University Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences (UIPS),Panjab University,Chandigarh organized the First International Pharmaceutical Sciences Webinar through Cisco Web-Ex meetings Prof. D. Samba Reddy, Department of Neuroscience & Experimental Therapeutics, College of Medicine, Texas A&M University, Texas, USA, held a Scientific Conversation & Interactive Session on Corona Virus. He gave an elaborative account of the scientific-based facts of COVID-19, its targets, prevention, new vaccines and anti-viral medicines, and common tips of surviving the outbreak.
Prof. Raj Kumar, Vice Chancellor, while inaugurating, applauded the initiative of the Institute and urged them to take up the area of Drug Discovery and Drug Development for COVID-19 and other such deadly diseases as the thrust areas of research.
Prof. VR Sinha, Dean Research, was the guest of honour.
More than 100 participants from all over the world including faculty from Panjab University and other institutions, Post-Docs, Ph.D &M. Pharm. Research Scholars and B. Pharm. Students attended the webinar.
The presentation followed by a rigorous half an hour question-answer session from faculty and students.The webinar ended with a thanks note from Prof Kanwaljit Chopra, Chairperson, UIPS.
The online Art Initiative,’How Green Was My Valley ‘ was conceived as a curatorial initiative by Art History and Visual Arts Department Panjab University Chandigarh , in association with Manasollasa Art, showcasing Art in the times of quarantine and social distancing due to Covid-19 pandemic 2020 , a situation that completely changed our perspective towards life and thus, connected us globally more than we could ever have imagined . It is a time to sit back and recapitulate on how we as humans have hurt nature..Prakriti , whom we address as our Mother in the Indian parlance.
‘How Green Was My Valley ’, has been contextualized and curated by Dr. Tirthankar Bhattacharya, Chairperson to delve into the relevance of Art owing to its therapeutic and visual appeal . The participants are artists , art lovers and art connoisseurs. The Initiative that he undertook while sitting at home received an overwhelming response from colleagues, friends , alumni & students breaking the geographic barriers , making it truly International . 34 entries were received from Chandigarh, Delhi, Assam, Bangalore, Calcutta, Uttarakhand from India and from New Zealand taking the show beyond national boundaries.
Raam Jator & Avin Sharma, PhD Research Scholars helped in coordinating this Initiative which included structuring ideas to designing the attractive online exhibition and collating the art works .
The Panjab University, Chandigarh including Regional Centres, Constituent and Affiliated Colleges shall continue to remain closed till May 17, 2020, informed Prof Karamjeet Singh, Registrar.
In addition, the guidelines being issued/released by the Government of India from time to time will also be applicable. These will be communicated separately, as and when these are received.

An Online Session on Virtual Labs was organized by University Institute of Engineering and Technology(UIET), Panjab University, Chandigarh on April 29, 2020 through webex. The Virtual Labs is an initiative of Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) under the National Mission on Education through ICT (NMEICT). The expert for the session was Mr. Prateek Sharma, Senior Field Engineer and Trainer, Virtual Labs, IIT Delhi. He has been providing training to faculty and students of different Nodal Centers across the country. UIET, Panjab University, Chandigarh is one of the Nodal Centers of the Virtual Labs Project IIT Delhi.
This event was a great success with presence of around 40 faculty members of the organising institute and the other adjoining institutions nearby Chandigarh. This online session included an introductory presentation which included basic idea, need, motivation, objectives, features and impact of Virtual Labs Project by the expert followed by the practical session of the Virtual Labs. The workshop motivated faculty members to explore different experiments and practicals virtually within short span of time and with ease of access. This would also ensure continuous learning for the students during adverse conditions such as the present pandemic covid-19 and prepare institutes and their faculty members for online practical training and experimentation. The session was appreciated by all the participants.
Total 64 units of blood was collected at Blood Donation Camp organised here today by Panjab University Non Teaching Employees Federation at PU Campus with the help of Deepak Kaushik, Inder Mohan, Satish Kumar, Inder Dev Patial, Vijay DOGRA, Raj Kumar, Nitin Punj, Naveen, Pankaj Ram Parshad and others.
A large number of people participated despite of current situation due to Covid19 pandemic. President Deepak Kaushik thanked the Team of Doctors and Technicians of PGI which performed the duty and also assured the team that the Federation can organise more camps in case any emergency arises in near future.
A Hostel staff, a resident of Bapudham Colony who attended party thrown by a positive COVID case from the Colony, was traced from Panjab University, Chandigarh Boys Hostel No. 1.
He stayed in the servant quarter located at the hostel after he was denied entry to Bapudham Colony for only one night and the next day the police took him from the Campus and his tests are being carried out.
Warden Rajeev Kumar informed that PU Hostel no. 1 is being sanitized immediately and around 20 students staying in the hostel at present, have been advised to immediately maintain the social distance. The food will also be served in their rooms only.
He added that PU Authority is also considering of initiating appropriate action against the concerned Hostel Staff who concealed the information about his association with the positive COVID case.
Further, the PU Authority is in the process of taking feedback from the Hostel/Security/Horticulture and other staff who are coming from outside University for work. As a precautionary, Standard Operating Procedure for smooth working of University during lockdown is being framed , informed Prof Navdeep Goyal, PU Fellow and Chairman of Advisory Committee of PU.
