Prof. Raj Kumar, Vice Chancellor, Panjab University, Chandigarh interacted with Superintendents of  Establishment and Conduct Branch of  Administrative Block, Department of Laws, DSW and Dental College. The issues related to cleanliness in and around their work places, to follow SOP’s related Covid were discussed. PU,VC advised all to maintained social distancing and wear masks. He further instructed to avoid pendency of work and address to queries preferably through telephone. PU, VC assured of any kind of support in terms of infrastructure and man-power

PU,VC visits UIET

Prof. Raj Kumar, Vice Chancellor, Panjab university, Chandigarh visited today University Institute of Engg. and Technology (UIET). He was accompanied with Prof. R. K. Singla, Department of Computer Science,  Prof. Sukhvir Kaur, DSW (W) and Prof. J.K. Goswamy, Director UIET. While interacting with the coordinators of various branches, he urged them to submit Research projects and Research Papers. He interacted with the staff and urged them for maintaining cleanliness around their work place and strictly follow Covid protocols.

PU, VC visited the Chemistry Lab of UIET and interacted with the Research scholars. They requested the Vice Chancellor for opening of the Lab till 8:00 p.m. and to depute lab technician also.

Online Urdu Calligraphy Contest at PU

Dept. of Urdu, Panjab University organized  first ever “Urdu Calligraphy “ contest today which saw participants from students and research Scholars.

            Dr. Ali Abbas, Coordinator of the Department said that thoughit was an onlinecontest yet the studentshad shown keen interest which is an encouraging sign.  The students have realized that importance of Calligraphy especially to improve their own handwriting, he added.

            Dr. Abbas said that Calligraphy was an ancient art developed and perfected by our ancestors.  “Calligraphy underlines the importance of perfection and excellence achieved after a lot of practice and perseverance.  It disciplines one’s mind, heart and hand through concentration to produce a decorative piece nothing sort of a thing of beauty is a joy for ever.

Best Research Paper Award for UIPS Faculty

Dr Bhupinder Singh Bhoop, Professor at the University Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences (UIPS), and Coordinator, UGC Centre of Excellence in Nano Biomedical Applications, Panjab University (PU), Chandigarh, along with his research team, has recently been selected for the coveted “Dr P D SETHI BEST RESEARCH PAPER AWARD” for their research manuscript entitled, “QbD-steered development and Validation of an RP-HPLC method for quantification of ferulic acid: Rational application of chemometric tools”, published in Journal of Chromatography B (Thomson Reuter Impact Factor of 3.04). The research work on pharmaceutical analysis and drug delivery encompassed in the said paper has been carried out by Mr Sumant Saini, a UGC Meritorious Research Doctoral Fellow working in UIPS, under the supervision of Professor Bhoop, along with the two co-supervisors, viz. Professor O P Katare (UIPS) and Professor S. K. Tripathi (Physics).  The other coauthors are Dr Teenu Sharma, Dr Ranjot Kaur and Dr Asha Patel from Vadodara.

            In a recent communiqué received from M/s  Kongposh Publications Pvt. Ltd., New Delhi, to Professor Bhoop, he was recently informed and congratulated on the announcement of this coveted award to him and his team of coauthors, along with a cash prize of Rs 10,000/-. The aforesaid research work demonstrates the successful and systematic development of an liquid-chromatographic analytical method of ferulic acid, a popular antioxidant bioactive against numerous diseases. The remarkable highlight of the work has been the rational integration of a battery of novel and innovative chemometric tools and scientific techniques like Principal Component Analysis, Monte Carlo Simulations, Variance Factor, Quality Risk Management, and Design of Experiments, and following the principles of analytical Quality by Design (QbD) to result in significantly enhanced analytical quantification, and deeper analytical insights of the process..

            A two-tier process was employed by an expert panel for final selection of the awarded paper based upon their scientific content of pharmaceutical analysis, high impact of publications, originality, data quality and practical utility, among over an hundred papers reviewed all across. (Late) Dr P D Sethi has been a renowned pharmaceutical analyst, the founder director of Central Drugs Laboratory (Govt. of India), and an author of scores of books on pharmaceutical analysis.

Around 35700 students took Online Exam by PU on Day 11

Dr. Jagat Bhushan, Controller of Examination informed that around 35,700
students of Undergraduate/Postgraduate/Other Professional Courses including
USOL/Private have appeared today on Day 11 of online examination being conducted by
Panjab University. He informed that total exams in Slot 1 and Slot 2 were 78 and 53
respectively. He further informed that all the exams conducted today went off
smoothly.

DIS, PU celebrated International Mother Language Week

Professor Anju Suri, Dean, International Students, Panjab University, Chandigarh
organized, on the spot, ‘Essay Writing Competition on Mother Language’ today at the
office of Dean, International Students to celebrate ‘International Mother Language
Week. The competition was organized for the students of the Panjab University and
the affiliated colleges of the University in Chandigarh including the international
students.

Eight students from the College and Panjab University, Chandigarh got themeselves
registered for the Essay Writing Competition. Two judges, Professor, Satyapal Sehgal
and Dr. Gurmeet Singh, both from Department of Hindi, Panjab University had been
invited to act as the judges for the competition.

All the participants received the certificates of participation. The winners of
first three positions were given prizes in the trophies and the certificates; a
special prize consisting of a trophy besides a certificate was also won by a student

Around 53300 students took Online Exam by PU on Day 9

National Pharmacy Teachers Training Programme Begins at PU

A one-week web faculty training school under the initiative of UGC Networking
Resource Centre (UGC-NRC), on “Fundamentals, Advances and Innovative Platforms for
Drug Delivery and Pharmaceutical Technology” from 22 to 27 February 2021 was
inaugurated today via Cisco WebEx at the University Institute of Pharmaceutical
Sciences (UIPS), Panjab University Campus, for pharma faculty participants across
the country by Professor B. R. Mittal, Director, Institute of Medical Sciences,
Banaras Hindu University, Uttar Pradesh.

A total of 40 participants were selected for training, hailing from various
Colleges/Universities, representing 13 different states of India. The training
school intends to provide superior understanding to the participants on fundamental
concepts for product development, innovative drug delivery platforms, regulatory and
technological advancement in pharma industry.

Professor Indu Pal Kaur, Chairperson, UIPS and Programme Coordinator, UGC-NRC
welcomed the participants and briefed them about the achievements of UIPS and UGC-
NRC programmes. Professor V. R. Sinha, Dean of University Instruction, Panjab
University and Course Coordinator, 27th UGC-NRC summarized about the course content
to the participants and Dr Amita Sarwal, Joint Course Coordinator conducted the
proceedings of the event.

Professor Mittal highlighted on the importance of Nuclear medicine not only as
diagnostic but also as therapeutic option. He elaborated that radionucleotides
tagging can be used in antibody therapies for breast cancer, neuroendocrine tumors
and thyroid cancer.

Professor Prince Sharma, Former Dean, Faculty of sciences and Professor in
Department of Microbiology, Panjab University, Chandigarh, delivered the Key Note
Address on “Reverse Vaccinology: Developing Vaccines against Drug resistant
Bacterial Pathogens in the Post- Antibiotic Era.” He delivered a very impactful
talk, highlighted the concept of Antibiotic resistance in the current era, and
focused on solutions like repurposing the drugs, combination therapies and
nanomedicine. He showcased his study on “Acinetobacter baumannii” which has been
designated as critical in WHO priority list of pathogens. He concluded his talk with
emphasis on simple hand-washing as an effective method for reducing infections.

Subsequent sessions included a lecture on “Cocrystals as Novel Solid Form of
Pharmaceutical Development” by Professor Arvind Bansal, Professor and Head,
Department of Pharmaceutics, National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and
Research (NIPER), Mohali, Punjab. He aptly explained that co-crystals can modify the
physico-chemical properties of Active-Pharmaceutical Ingredients. It is a Green-
Synthesis approach for production of pharmaceutical compounds. The post-lunch
session covered informative talks by Professor B. Mishra, Professor of Pharmaceutics
and Former Head, Indian Institute of Technology, Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi,
Uttar Pradesh on “Pulsatile Drug Delivery using Pastilation Technique” can achieve
desired therapeutic effects and reduced side-effects for patient-compliant products
and Professor Bikash Medhi, Department of Pharmacology, Post Graduate Institute of
Medical Education & Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh on “How to apply IND Application
in Drug Delivery Process and Re-purposing of Drug in Pandemic” as a crucial
preliminary step for the approval of drug for public use.

UIPS is the first and the only Pharmacy Institute in the country selected by MHRD
for creating UGC Networking Resource Centre to promote and foster research and
academics in the field of Pharmaceutical Sciences by training young pharma trainers,
selected across the nation.

On Day 1 of allotment, Ph.D students returned to PU Hostels

 Panjab University, Chandigarh today allotted rooms to around 20 Ph.D
students against single occupancy at present on the first day of hostel allotment.
Also, exit semester students of Nuclear Medicine, Medical Physics, MDS and M.Pharma
are allowed to stay in hostels, informed Dr. Sukhbir Kaur, Dean Student
Welfare(Women), PU.

        She further informed that the students who are having their departments in
Sector -14 Campus, are allotted the hostels in Sector-14, while those in Sector-25
Campus, are allotted in South Campus. At present, the mess of Girls Hostel No. 4 is
working which is catering to the Sector-14 Campus Girls Hostels and Girls Hostel no.
10 which is open is catering to the Hostels in South Campus. The mess of Boys Hostel
No. 6 is catering to all the Boys Hostels in PU Campus. All SoPs related to Covid
will be strictly followed.
