Chandigarh, September 20:- Due to repairing of leakage of 1200mm dia PSC line of Phase III the raw water pumping from Pump House Phase III Water Works Kajauli will remain suspended. There will be low water supply during evening time in the city Chandigarh. The schedule of water supply will be as under:

Morning: 3.30 am to 9.30 am (Normal water supply)
Evening: 6:00 pm to 8.00 pm (Water supply at low pressure)
The residents are hereby requested to bear with the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh.

Delegation from MC Udupi (Karnataka) visits Chandigarh; praises MCC projects

Chandigarh, September 16:  Mrs. Sumithra R Nayak, President, Town Municipal Council, District Udupi (Karnataka) alongwith delegation of 33 councillors & officers visited the city beautiful, Chandigarh today.

The delegation was on its study tour regarding “Solid Waste Management & Best Practices of Municipal Corporation Chandigarh”. The delegation reached Chandigarh last evening and received by senior officers of MCC.

Today morning their day long sight visit schedule was started with the presentation on Best practices of Municipal Corporation at MCC office premises, Sector 17, Chandigarh. Ms. Anindita Mitra, IAS, Commissioner, Municipal Corporation Chandigarh welcomed the delegation followed by brief introduction of the projects and best practices and functions of the MCC.

The Commissioner gave a brief presentation on Solid Waste Management system, Roads, Water Supply, Garden and Green belts, Street Lights, Tertiary Treated Water Supply, processing of C&D Waste, Property tax, management of Gaushalas, Vendor rehabilitation system and other projects of MCC.

After the presentation meeting, the delegation visited various best projects of MCC including Water Works, Public Bike Sharing System, Fire and Rescue services, Sewerage Treatment Plant, C&D Waste Plant, Ind. area, Ph-I and Integrated Command & Control Centre, Sector 17, Chandigarh.

During their sight visits, different teams headed by nodal officers of MCC briefed about the projects at their respective sites.

The President and the councilors of Udupi praised the beauty of Chandigarh including best roads in the country, neat and clean parks, planned markets and no encroachments in the road sides. They appreciated the horticulture wing especially for maintaining more than 1800 neighborhood parks in the city. They also appreciated the cleanliness of the city and solid waste management system including management of STPs and running of MRF stations in city.

MCC all set to strengthen its sewerage system and expand its distribution network of TT water. Receives Rs. 33 crore as first instalment for AMRUT 2.0 scheme.

Chandigarh, September 16:- The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) has released grant of Rs. 33 Crore as a first instalment for the projects costing Rs.170 crore under AMRUT 2.0 Scheme to Municipal Corporation Chandigarh today.


While sharing this development, Ms. Anindita Mitra, IAS, Commissioner, Municipal Corporation Chandigarh and Mission Director AMRUT said that the projects will include Laying of TT Water lines in left out areas to supply Tertiary Treated Water in Chandigarh at an estimated cost of Rs. 89 crores; Providing 24×7 Water Supply in 13 Villages in convergence with 24×7 City Water Supply Project at an estimated cost of Rs. 60 crores and Strengthening of existing Sewerage System in Chandigarh at an estimated cost of Rs. 21 crores.


She said that the MCC would prepare the detail project reports of these works and will call the tenders shortly. 


She said that the residents of the 13  villages namely Khuda Lahora, Khuda Jassu, Raipur Khurd, Raipur Kalan, Kishangarh, Khuda Alisher, Sarangpur, Daria, Dhansa, Behalana, Mauli , Makhanmajra  will get 24 x 7 canal Water supply after the implementation of the project. 


The Commissioner said that the existing sewerage network will also be strengthened by laying new sewer lines and replacement of outlived old sewer lines. The tertiary treated water distribution network will be laid in the left out area in city and in Industrial Area for its usage for maintenance of Parks as well as in Industries for washing. It will save potable water about 10MGD, she added.

Chandigarh team visits Ujjain, see floral waste and bio-methanation plants

Chandigarh, September 11:- A team of councillors of Chandigarh Municipal Corporation led by Smt. Sarbjit Kaur Dhillon, Mayor and accompanied by Senior Deputy Mayor, Deputy Mayor and 21 councillors today visited the “Pushpkunj” floral waste plant and Bio-methanation Plant at Ujjain, MP.

The Chandigarh team was welcomed by city Mayor Sh. Mukesh Tatwal who briefed them about the best practices at Ujjain city including bio-methanation plant having capacity of 5TPD which generates 300 units/day electricity and 1.5 TPD compost per day. He said that all the major mandies and societies of the city are geo mapped and connected to the ICCC. The plant utilizes biodegradable waste, mostly from the nearby vegetable market and the adjacent colonies and converts them into biogas and be run through gas generators to produce electricity.

While explaining about the floral waste plant, the Mayor of Ujjain briefed the Chandigarh team that having capacity of 3 TPD with merely Rs. 18 lakh investment, the plant had started in 2019 which is having manpower of 11 employees generating revenue of 1.5 lacs monthly. He said that the huge quantities of this floral waste generated every day in the temple town Ujjain had earlier posed significant challenges of disposal for authorities but with the support of Mahakal Mandir Samiti the floral waste is now being processed and ‘incense sticks’ and herbal color are being produced.

The Chandigarh team led by the Mayor appreciated the projects and expressed that possibilities will be explored to replicate the same at Chandigarh also.

Chandigarh, September 11:- To celebrate eight years of Swachh Bharat Mission-Urban, the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh will organize ‘Swachh Amrit Mahotsav’, to galvanize action around swachhata between 17th Sept. 2022, Seva Diwas and 2nd Oct. 2022, Swachhata Diwas. The fortnight will focus on mobilizing citizen action and commitment towards the vision of building ‘Garbage Free Cities’.While 7 events under the banner Swacchta Ka Satrangi Saptah, will be completely youth led, the remaining events will mark major milestones in the history of the Swacchta Journey of Chandigarh. 


While sharing details of this initiative, Ms. Anindita Mitra, IAS, Commissioner, Municipal Corporation Chandigarh said that the official logo for the fortnight, ‘Swachh Amrit Mahotsav: Ek Aur Kadam Swachhata Ki Ore’ signifying the resolve to intensify and reinvigorate the Jan Andolan in the world’s largest sanitation programme has been released by the Ministry of Housing Affairs (MoHUA). She said that the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh has decided to name their team *“CHANDIGARH CHALLENGERS”* . The team leader is the youth icon Mr. Rohit Kumar, working in the field of Swachhata for the last 5-6 years.


She said that to fulfill the Hon’ble Prime Minister’s vision of harnessing youth energy for positive action, the first ever ‘Indian Swachhata League’, an inter-city competition will take place between the youth of the cities on the 17th of Sept. 2022. For the maiden edition of ISL, more than 1,850 city teams from across the country have officially registered to compete. Each team will compete in the League by creating their own unique sanitation initiatives to focus on creating Garbage free beaches, hills, and tourist places, she added.


The Commissioner said that the citizens have been invited to join the city team on the official MyGov portal from 11th September 2022 onwards. She further said that this initiative has already generated a lot of excitement and interest amongst the youth fraternity. Various other interesting initiatives have been lined up during the fortnight such as Mega Human Chain formation in Rose Garden on 17th, Start-Up Challenge on 20th, Plogging of 25th, Toycathon- Making toys from waste and Technology Exhibition on 26th, Flash Mob Dances, Nukkad Nataks etc finally culminating with the observation of Swachh Bharat Diwas on 2nd Oct., Gandhi Jayanti.She appealed to citizens, especially the youth, to register and express their solidarity to the cause.

Crèche opened at MCC building

Chandigarh, September 1:- Smt. Sarbjit Kaur Dhillon, Mayor, Chandigarh on Thursday opened a crèche for children of Municipal staff at MCC building, Sector 17, Chandigarh in the presence of Ms. Anindita Mitra, IAS, Commissioner, MCC.

The Mayor said that the facility has been set up on the ground floor of MCC building. Children in the age group between 06 months and 10 years will be admitted to the crèche. This is part of the Municipal Corporation’s efforts to have childcare centre at workplace.

She further said the crèche will be open between 9.30 am and 5.30 pm. A social worker and a helper from Social Welfare Department, Chandigarh have been assigned to take care of the children. It will remain closed on public holidays and Sundays. The crèche is equipped with a refrigerator, Geyser, Induction, RO, Almirahs, gas stove, child-friendly furniture, cradles, bed, toys, child-friendly washroom and a breastfeeding space, added the Mayor.

Commissioner launches Swachh Technology Challenge under SBM 2.0

Chandigarh, September 1:- Ms. Anindita Mitra, IAS, Commissioner, Municipal Corporation Chandigarh launched ‘Swachh Technology Challenge’ today and invites entries with innovative solutions from individuals, startups, NGOs and government as well as private organizations.

She said that the objective of this challenge is to promote innovative technology, sustainability and easy-to-use methods under sanitation and solid waste management. The entries for Challenge will be received via given QR code in the Google form from today onwards till 30th November, 2022. The top three solutions across the City Beautiful will be felicitated in an award function in the month of December, 2022. The cash prizes declared under Swachh Technology Challenge for the best three entries are Rs. 1,00,000/- for first winner, Rs. 51,000/- for second winner and Rs. 21,000/- for the third winner,” the Commissioner said.

The Commissioner said that the organizations/individuals have been invited to come up with ideas to improve waste management in the city by using innovative technology under four categories which are Social Inclusion, Zero Dump, Plastic Waste Management and Transparency. The themes given for the technology challenge will be Solid Waste Processing & Recycling, Plastic Recycling & its alternatives, Innovation for cleaners and Sanitation & waste Management under Swachh Bharat Mission.

She said over the years, MCC under Swachh Bharat Mission has been encouraging innovations and best practices particularly through Swachh Survekshan, the annual cleanliness survey conducted by MoHUA. A pre launch webinar of Swachh Technology Challenge was organized on 31st August, 2022 where a large number of people joined from engineering colleges, industrials, institutes and individuals. The details and modalities of the Challenge were elaborated in a presentation.

MCC scientifically processes 6000 Kg sanitary waste in the first month of starting operations

Chandigarh, September 1:- With an aim to process sanitary waste scientifically, the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh has processed 6000 Kg of domestic sanitary waste in the month of August.


While sharing this big achievement, Ms. Anindita Mitra, IAS, Commissioner, Municipal Corporation Chandigarh said that finally the problem of scientific disposal of daily sanitary waste was over. She said started from August 3rd, 2022, the MCC vehicles collected the sanitary waste separately from the households of city beautiful and from the three designated common collection points of MCC including Material Recovery Facility cum Garbage Transfer Centre (MRF/GTC), industrial area Ph-1, MRF/GTC industrial area Ph-2 and MRF/GTC at Sector 25, Chandigarh, the same has been got processed off scientifically through incineration at Industrial area phase-I, Chandigarh.
She said that daily monitoring system has been set up ight from the collection of sanitary waste in separate compartment upto its scientific disposal. She said that it was a big challenge before the MCC that what to do with menstrual waste, which is a prominent source of microbial contamination.


She said that MCC started collection of sanitary waste from the residents every day long back but its scientific disposal was the main problem. Now through a local authorized agency, which has all facilities of incineration of biomedical of waste, the sanitary waste is being set processed on daily basis.


She further said that even if citizen wrap the sanitary napkins in a newspaper and then throw it in a dustbin, it leads to a prolific growth of microorganisms in absence of an immediate collection system. This becomes a threat to human health and to avoid this, the MCC has provided special dustbins which are covered with anti-microbial linings to the dealing staff of the sanitary waste at the MRF stations.


The Commissioner said that the MCC has made waste segregation compulsory in the city and accordingly, residents were asked to segregate wet, dry, hazardous and sanitary waste and the same are being collected separately through waste collection vehicles of MCC on daily basis which are further disposed off scientifically.

She further said that the MCC will act against those who do not practice waste segregation at its source. The MCC has already conducted several rounds of awareness drives on the implementation of waste segregation system and insisting residents in the city segregate waste at its source for several years.

 Kirron Kher inaugurates Community centre at sector 21

Chandigarh August 29: Smt. Kirron Kher, Member Parliament, UT, Chandigarh today inaugurated the Community Centre in Sector 21, here in presence of Smt. Sarbjit Kaur Dhillon, Mayor, Ms. Anindita Mitra, IAS, Commissioner, Sh. Anup Gupta, Deputy Mayor & area councillor, other councilors of MC, representatives of Residents Welfare Associations and prominent persons of the area.

While addressing the gathering, the Member Parliament said that the Community centres offer an opportunity for people to become involved in a wide range of activities. They promote a sense of belonging and social inclusion. They provide a place where the community can meet and engage in collective activities. She said the centres are strategically located to serve the citizens which are used for cultural programmes, to organise marriages and for other social activities.

She said the idea of the community centre is to offer a place where all members of the community from young to old can meet for various activities. All too often it’s the only such place available in a community.

On the occasion, the Mayor said that the community centre building has been constructed covering area of 23344 Sq. Ft. and spread in a plot area of approximately 0.53 acre at a cost of Rs. 581 lacs. She said that this community centre has capacity to accommodate 500 people in one time party and sufficient parking space.

She said that the community centre was best of its kind in city and consisting of one hall, pantry, kitchen, office room, caretaker room, enterance lobby, stair case, lift, gents & ladies toilet blocks in ground floor. While two halls, bride room, groom room, dormitory, stair case, lift and toilets for ladies and gents in the 1st floor. Gymnasium, two rooms, library, open terrace and toilets for ladies and gents in the 2nd floor.

The Mayor said that this community centre will be a good asset to the residents of local area as they can organize parties and other programmes in very nominal government rates near their doorsteps.

Chandigarh, August 29:- Due to replacement of the defective flow sensor at inlet pipeline of raw water at water works 12 from water works 39, Chandigarh, there will be low water supply during evening time in the sectors 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 21 A, 22 A&B, 25 and PGI, Chandigarh.
The schedule of water supply for these sectors will be as under:
