Mayor Inaugurates Open air gym at Dadumajra

Chandigarh, December 26: – Sh. Rajesh Kumar, Mayor of Chandigarh inaugurated two open air gyms at  Palm park and Park near House no. 2211, Dadumajra today in the presence of  prominent persons of the area, Ward Committee and welfare association. He requested the residents to use open air gym and stay healthy.

The total cost of both open air gyms comes around Rs. 5.25 lacs including provision of latest equipments i.e. Push Chair, Sub Board Functions, Space Walker, Seated Pedal Trainer, Wab Board, Parallel Bars, Taiji Wheel and Riding Trainer.

Committee of National Green Tribunal (NGT) inspects N-Choe & Sukhna Choe

Chandigarh, December 26:-  The chairman of the monitoring committee of National Green Tribunal (NGT)  Retired Hon’ble Justice Pritam  Paul ,  along with other members of the committee named Miss Urvashi Gulati, IAS Retired, Dr. Babu Lal technical Expert, Sh. Kamal Kishor Yadav, IAS, Commissioner Municipal Corporation Chandigarh and Sh. T.C. Nautiyal, IFS Member Secretary Chandigarh Pollution Control Committee, Sh. Shailender Singh, Chief Engineer Municipal Corporation Chandigarh and other officials  today  visited the N-Choe and Sukhna Choe at various locations to conducted a detailed inspection as per directions of NGT.

The inspection starts from Kishangarh and finishes at Garden of Springs Sector 53 Chandigarh. The committee directed the officials to expedite the work to locate the sources from where waste water entering in the choe and stop the flow of waste water at the earliest. The committee also appreciated the efforts made by Public Health Wing in reducing the flow of water at certain points.

Chandigarh, December 20:- Sh. V.P. Singh Badnore, Governor of Punjab and Administrator, UT, Chandigarh today inaugurated the project of “Mining of Legacy Waste and Recovery of Land” in presence of Smt. Kirron Kher, Member Parliament, Sh. Manoj Parida, IAS, Adviser to the Administrator, Sh. Rajesh Kumar, Mayor, Sh. K.K. Yadav, IAS, Commissioner, MCC-cum-CEO-CSCL at Dadu Majra Dumping Ground, here on Build Operate & Transfer Basis.

While addressing the gathering, the Administrator congratulated all the citizens of the city specially the residents of Dadumajra as the start of the project will give big relief to the residents from the foul smell and leachate oozing out from the garbage dump which is the major cause of the spreading off various diseases, flies and dust nuisance.

He said that the Solid waste management was one of the biggest challenges in the country and the idea of Swachh Bharat Mission could not be achieved until the Municipal Corporations go for the scientific way of disposal for Municipal Solid Waste.

He said that under this project about around 5 lac metric tons (MT) of waste which is lying there for more than 20 years will be bio-mined and processed through scientific procedures and the entire land about 25 acre will be reclaimed for future use of scientific waste treatment & disposal of waste.

The Administrator instructed the executing agency to complete the project in timely manner as per guidelines for disposal of legacy waste and SWM rules 2016 and also to minimize the problem of dust and to take suitable measures to control the breeding of flies, mosquitos and foul smell etc.

He said that the project has been started during the celebrations of 150th year of Mahatama Gandhi and 550th Birth Anniversary of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji and with the blessings of them we will get rid from the problem of large amount of waste over there.

Smt. Kirron Kher appreciated the efforts of Sh. Rajesh Kumar, Mayor for pursuing the dumping site problem for a long time and today the time come when he as a Mayor got this work started in this area. She also appreciated the efforts of area councilor Farmila for raising the demand of disposal of this MSW from dumping site.

Sh. Rajesh Kumar, Mayor said that today a dream come true. He said that he started agitations against the dumping site at Dadumajra from the young age and today is the biggest day and historical day for the local residents of Dadumajra and me as well. He said that it has happened only with the dedicated efforts of many personalities but we may not forget the names of Sh. Narender Chaudhary and Dayal ji for their long journey to get rid of this waste dump.

While informing about this project, Sh. K.K. Yadav, IAS, Commissioner, MCC-cum-CEO, CSCL said that all this work of bio-mining will be completed within scheduled time span of 540 days i.e. 18 months from the date of start by M/s SMS Limited, Nagpur at approximate cost of Rs. 33 crore.

He said that the approximate 800-900 MT/day lying legacy waste will be turned in to wind-rows by spraying bio-culture solution prior to shift to processing unit lines for its treatment and segregation to collect the end product, i.e. refuse derived fuel (RDF), construction & demolition (C&D) waste and fines (bio-soil) etc. where, the RDF will be disposed off to the cement plant, C&D waste to C&D waste plant of MCC at industrial area and fines will be used as inert material to fill up the low lying areas etc.

He said that under the waste segregation scheme, Chandigarh Smart City Ltd. is also setting up 3 material recovery facility-cum-garbage transfer stations at industrial area Ph-I , 3 BRD and Dadu majra to improve the efficiency of garbage collection and to reduce the transportation costs by converting Chandigarh in to a bin-free city. The complete system of collection and disposal including the garbage collection vehicles will be controlled by GPS and SCADA system. He said that a proposal has also been prepared to construct new sanitary landfill for proper disposal of residual waste after material recovery and composting in a scientific manner.

Mayor called meeting on public safety issue under road engineering measures

Chandigarh, December 18:- Sh. Rajesh Kumar, Mayor, Chandigarh today called a meeting of all Executive Engineers of Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh regarding details of major road engineering works related to MCC keeping in view public safety.

During the meeting Sh. Shailender Singh, Chief Engineer, Sh. Sanjay Arora, SE (B&R), Sh. K.P. Singh, S.E. (Horticulture), Mrs. Harjit Kaur, DSP, Traffic Police, (South), Chandigarh and other concerned officers were present.

The Mayor asked the engineers that keeping the agenda on top priority, prepare estimates of providing sign boards, repair of roads, providing railings in dividers and rotary works etc. and put up the same in the coming General House meeting for approval.

In the meeting various issues were discussed including installation of strong iron grills on the road dividers reported by the Traffic Police; U-Turn prohibited sign boards; removal of “compulsory sound horn” sign boards installed in city roads; installation of Speed limit sign boards in all V-6 roads; deployment of Safaikarmacharis in Children Traffic Park; installation of convex mirror on the blind turns; repair/replacement of faded speed limit sign boards in city; repairing of Zebra crossings; white line marking in both side of roads; repair of road side pavement; broken roads and slip roads; solution of water logging on roads; street lights be made functional and pruning of trees near sign boards etc.

The Mayor asked the concerned engineers to take up these issues on top priority and prepare estimates for quick provision of the road safety measures and take up the issues with Chief Architect, which requires approval from Architect Department, UT, Chandigarh.

This was the opening remarks given by Sh. K.K. Yadav, IAS, Commissioner, Municipal Corporation Chandigarh-cum-CEO, Chandigarh Smart City Ltd. during the “Urban Transformation Summit-Chandigarh” held here today in Hotel JW Marriot. The one-day event organised by Elets Technomedia Pvt. Ltd. in association with Municipal Corporation Chandigarh and Chandigarh Smart City Ltd. had interactive sessions designed to put the spotlight on the emerging ideas in urban transformation and the use of information & communication technologies for urban development in the city.

Sh. K.K. Yadav said that Chandigarh is an epitome of urban transformation model and acts as one of the crucial case studies for urban planners and architects across the world. The city founded in the foothills of Shivalik range right after India gained Independence is the first and still one of the best planned cities in the country. He said that the CSCL is currently working on four major projects i.e. water management, waste management, development technology-enabled surveillance system and energy conservation.

He further said that involvement of public is key to making a city “Smart City”. He said that it is the people and their involvement towards their city which makes it smarter. In Chandigarh, the CSCL and MCC take feedback from the people about our projects putting their grievance redressal on topmost priority, giving them timely services with transparency so that there is no allegation of corruption. So, more involvement of the public is the key to which we are working. He said that I hope with support from CSCL we will make this city a Smart City in true sense. We involved citizens to solve the problems and take the decisions for the same in the most creative and constructive way, he added.

TVC meeting held

Chandigarh,  A meeting of Town Vending Committee, Chandigarh was held in MCC, here today under the chairmanship of Sh. K.K. Yadav, IAS, Commissioner, Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh.

All members of TVC including Sh. V.N. Sharma, Mrs. Sangita Vardhan, Sh. Sita Ram, Sh. Ram Pal, representatives from traffic police, SSP, SDM’s and other officials of MCC were present during the meeting.

The committee approved the agenda item regarding hiring of 9 security guards and one supervisor at street vending zone of sector 15 for six months. The committee also accorded approval to hiring additional staff in street vending cell for six months. The committee accorded ex post facto approval for the expenditure incurred during shifting of vendors.

The committee discussed the issue regarding provision of some other vending zones in different areas throughout city considering demands of area public. The committee discussed and decided to develop Model street vending zone in city on pilot basis by providing smart lighting through use of solar lights, public toilets, drinking water facility, GIS mapping and profile, providing uniform kiosks and thermoplastic demarcation of vending zone alongwith solar passage lights.

The committee also accorded approval to extend the pilot project signed with school of public health, PGI on developing IEC material and capacity building of street vendors.

The committee members also discussed complaints/representations received from registered vendors and provision of more space for motor mechanics, potters, tandoor workers, change of trade within non essential service provider category due to loss of business during re-location, cluster of vending/regrouping will be explored for street vendors in sector 15 zone for creating zones within zones for different trade to avoid any fire incident and transfer of ownership in case of recent death and allotment of site as per provisions.

The committee also accorded approval to sanction of honorarium to TVC non official members for attending various meetings other than TVC and engagement of non-government organizations (working on community development, IEC and theater/street plays) and change of fee category zone due to re-location.

Chandigarh, December 11:- A meeting of fire and emergency services committee held here today under the chairmanship of Sh. Ravi Kant Sharma and attended by other members of committee namely Sh. Arun Sood, Smt. Raj Bala Malik, Sh. Mahesh Inder Singh Sidhu, Maj. Gen. M.S. Kandal, Haji Mohd. Khurshid Ali, Sh. Devinder Singh Babla, Sh. Shakti Parkash Devshali & Smt. Gurbax Rawat (Special invitees) councilors, Sh. Anil Kumar Garg, Additional Commissioner-cum-Chief Fire Officer and other concerned officers of Fire Department.

During the meeting, the committee decided that mock drills of fire & emergency services will be organized throughout city specially in schools, colleges, markets and housing societies. The members also asked the concerned officers to involve area councilors during mock drills.

The committee also discussed and decided that fire model bill and Delhi Fire Act will be put up in next meeting after preparing detailed study report for adoption in Chandigarh.

The committee also accorded approval for the disposal of condemned and unserviceable articles/items in respect of Fire & Emergency Services through e-auction. The committee fixed its next meeting on 19th December, 2019.

Chandigarh, December 8:- The beautiful 33rd annual Chrysanthemum Show ends with prize distribution function and cultural shows at Terraced Garden, Sector 33, here today. Sh. Rajesh Kumar, Mayor, Chandigarh was chief guest today and he gave away prizes to the winners of various events organized during chrysanthemum show.

The Chief Guest went around the Garden alongwith Sh. K.K. Yadav, IAS, Commissioner, Sh. Shailender Singh, Chief Engineer, Sh. K.P. Singh, Superintending Engineer, Horticulture and other senior officers of Municipal Corporation to see the various flowers exhibited there with different permutations and combinations.

Mayor distributes prizes to winners of Chrysanthemum show

          The Chief Guest applauded the efforts of the officials of Municipal Corporation for organizing such a beautiful show. He said that it was a great show, keep it up and make Chandigarh No.1 in India in the every field.

Gardeners of Horticulture Department, MC in the show have made boat, camel, peacock, cow, giraffe, lion and many other animals and birds using flowers. Near about 264 varieties of Chrysanthemum have been displayed in the show. The beautiful displays of the Chrysanthemum in the Show have helped Chandigarh in acquiring international fame.

A cultural programme was also organized by the students of Gurukul Global School, Sector 20, Panchkula.

Later, the Mayor & Commissioner distributed prizes to the following winners in various classes and categories. Gardeners of Municipal Corporation were also facilitated during the function.

Chandigarh, December 8:- Looking into the seriousness of the issue of untreated waste water being disposed off into N-Choe and directions issued by the National Green Tribunal,  Sh. Kamal Kishor Yadav IAS, Commissioner, Municipal Corporation Chandigarh along with Chief Engineer Sh. Shailender Singh, Executive Engineer & other concerned staff conducted a detailed inspection of the Sukhna-Choe today.

The inspection started from Sector 6 to village Raipur Khurd through Hallomajra Village. All the tail ends pertaining to Storm Water Drainage in various sectors from where storm water flows into Sukhna -Choes were inspected thoroughly. The Commissioner appreciated the efforts made by Public Health Wing in reducing the flow of water at certain points.

The Commissioner directed the concerned SDEs and JEs to locate the sources from where water is coming to tail ends. The staff was further instructed to locate any leakages in water supply lines and repair any such leakage on top priority. The SDE and JEs were instructed to submit the detail of progress of work on weekly basis.  It was also directed that notices be immediately given to such buildings where water is overflowing and entering the storm water drainage system.  If such overflow is not stopped within stipulated date, then they challan should be issued.

All the staff was directed to make all out effort in stopping the flow of untreated waste water entering Sukhna -Choe within stipulated period.

Kamal Kishor Yadav, IAS, Commissioner, Municipal Corporation Chandigarh along with Chief Engineer Sh. Shailender Singh, Executive Engineer & other concerned staff conducted a detailed inspection of the N-Choe, here today.

The inspection started from Bouginvilla Garden, Sector 3 to Sector 53 Garden of springs. All the tail ends pertaining to Storm Water Drainage in various sectors from where storm water flows into N-Choes were inspected thoroughly.

The Commissioner Municipal Corporation MCC appreciated the efforts made by PH Wing in reducing the flow of water and even completely  stopping the flow at certain points. Strict instructions were given to concerned SDEs and JEs to locate the sources from where water is coming to tail ends.

The Commissioner further instructed the engineers to locate any leakages in water supply lines and repair any such leakage on top priority.  It was also directed that notices be immediately given to such buildings where water is overflowing and entering the storm water drainage system.  If such overflow is not stopped within stipulated date, then they challan should be issued.
