Commissioner launches free cycle workshop campaign

Chandigarh, October 10:- Sh. K.K. Yadav, IAS, Commissioner, Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh-cum-CEO, Chandigarh Smart City Ltd. today launched free cycle workshop campaign from the new underpass, Sector 17. Sh. Anil Kumar Garg, Additional Commissioner, office bearers from RWA’s (CRAWFED & FOSWAC), officials of CSCL and various bicycling groups of the city were also present during the workshop.

While briefing about the campaign, the Commissioner said that the objective of the workshop is to make the participants aware about the progress of the city for the Cycle for change challenge. He said that month long campaign was launched from today during which free cycle repair workshops will be conducted sectorwise in coordination with NGOs and RWAs to promote cycling in the city. He said that as a part of this a cycle rally will be organised at New lake, sector 42 on 11th October at 7.00 am onwards.

In this regard, a presentation was made by the CSCL official and explained about the citizen’s engagements being done so far and handlebar survey identifying the pain points for the cyclist. Also the analysis of the feedback of the citizen’s surveys was told by the officials. It was also informed that the Chandigarh shall soon be gearing up for launch for pilot project with 10 docking station at prominent locations and 100 bicycles.

In the workshop, 2 sessions were undertaken. In one of the session, the participant was disseminated with information related to respiratory recovery. This useful session was taken by Dr. Anish Garg (Member, CRAWFED). The objective of the session was to make people aware on how their body react during cycling and how to manage it without any external help. Effective breathing vis-à-vis respiratory function of the body is very important during longer run on the bicycle. By adopting of the techniques as discussed in the workshop, people will be able to undertake longer run on their cycle and contribute to the society and also to their health.

Second session was undertaken by a bicycling enthusiast, who shared is experience in under water bicycling and climbing Mount Everest. The presenter was Mr. Daljinder Singh (Punjab Police), also a Limca Book of Record among other distinctions. The session was an inspiration to the participants and go a long way towards achieving the objective of the city.

Further, the city has announced Best Photo & Video Challenge for the citizens of Chandigarh to participate and showcase their creativeness. The details are available on social media platform such as CSCL website, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter page. The residents are encouraged to participate and show their spirit.

Mayor reviews sanitation work and proper enforcement in city

Chandigarh, October 9:- Smt. Raj Bala Malik, Mayor, Chandigarh today called a meeting at her residence here today of Chief Sanitary Inspectors and Enforcement Inspectors of the Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh to review the sanitation work and proper enforcement in the city. Sh. Sorabh Arora, Joint Commissioner also attended the meeting.

During the meeting the Mayor reviewed preparedness of Swachh Survekshan-2021 and Swachh Ward Competition in city. She instructed the CSIs to coordinate with all the team members at ward level and improve the sanitation works at field level.


She instructed to monitor sanitation works strictly and area wise report be submitted weekly.

The enforcement inspectors apprised the Mayor that last month total 2400 violators have been challaned and recovered 20 lacs from the violators. She also reviewed the field level inspection of enforcement inspectors and instructed to remove illegal encroachments from the city by carrying out intensive drives.

Chandigarh, October 09: – The Municipal Corporation Chandigarh is going to start Scarifying and re-carpeting of V-4 road of Sector 44-A from 10.10.2020 to 16.10.2020 & V-6 road sector 19-A and Parking infront of SCO’s Sector 22- B&C, Chandigarh from 12.10.2020 to 30.10.2020. Due to this re-carpeting work the roads would be diverted on single road and the general public is requested to take alternate route and bear with Municipal Corporation.

Commissioner Administers awareness of Covid-19 pledge

Chandigarh, October 8:- Sh. K.K. Yadav, IAS, Commissioner, Municipal Corporation Chandigarh administered awareness of Covid-19 pledge alongwith all the officers and officials of MCC on the launch of Jan Andolan for Covid-19.

All the employees pledged that they commit to be vigilant and bear in mind at all times, the risk to themselves and their colleagues from Covid-19. They assured to take all necessary precautions that prevent the spread of this deadly virus and promise to follow and encourage others to follow the key Covid appropriate behaviors viz. wearing a face mask, maintaining a minimum distance of 6 feet from others and washing hands frequently with soap and water.

MCC to take strict action against defaulter cable operators

Chandigarh, October 7:- A review meeting was held under the chairmanship of Sh. Sorabh Arora, Joint Commissioner, MCC with cable operators regarding outstanding dues to be recovered from cable operators, who are not paying ground rent timely.

During the meeting it was discussed and decided that all the cable wires should be provided with identification tags showing name of cable operator at every distance of 50 meter; The cable will not be hanged on electricity poles on MCC land; No cable will be allowed between the parks, green belts and institutional buildings; Cable should not be hanged on the trees.

It was also decided that the cable should be laid at the height of 12 ft. and at least from ground and 6 ft. away from road edge; cable operator will not run internet services through their overhead cable network lines. It will be penalized @ Rs. 10,000/- per violation and challan will be issued by the MCC. The cable operators, who have failed to compliance the directions issued by the MCC regarding following the guidelines will face strict action as per law.

During the meeting the Joint Commissioner directed all the Executive Engineers of Roads to take action against defaulters who are not paying their dues timely.

MCC launches Swachh Ward contest

“Commissioner flagged off Swachh Sawari”

Chandigarh, October 2:- Sh. K.K. Yadav, IAS, Commissioner, Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh today flagged off “Swachh Sawari”, a promotional vehicle at Shanti Kunj parking lot, Sector 16 to create awareness among city residents to participate in Swachh Ward Contest.

While explaining about the awareness and contest, the Commissioner informed that in view of  Swachhta Ranking and Swachh Survekshan-2021 , Municipal Corporation Chandigarh has launched “Swachh Swaari“ (An Initiative towards 3R Reduce, Reuse ,Recycle Principle)  under which Citizens can Contribute Clothes, Shoes, Stationery , Books, in this Swachh Sawari. He said that the ‘Swachh Sawari’ will move Sector wise for the ease of Citizens and the schedule of Swachh Sawari  will be shared with Citizens.

The Commissioner said that a “Swachh Ward” Competition, an Inter-Ward Competition has also been launched today covering some major indicators like: Segregation, Citizen Engagement, 3R principle. He said that an independent committee will be accessing these parameters   and results of Wardwise Ranking will be declared on Monthly basis till January -2021. 

The Commissioner said that the MCC has appointed Ward wise Nodal Officers for ease of Citizen approach for timely resolution of grievances. He appealed the citizens of Chandigarh to participate in this contest and motivate others for making Chandigarh “ Swachh and Swasth”.

He further briefed that detailed list of Indicators along with marks, Nodal officers Wardwise and schedule of Swachh Sawari   will be available on MC Website i.e wwwmcchandigarh.gov.in  .

Besides launching the Swachh Sawari, the MCC organises intensive cleanliness drives throughout city along with various NGOs and organizations to mark “Gandhi Jayanti”.

Water Supply & Sewerage Disposal Committee meeting held

Chandigarh, September 29:- A meeting of Water Supply & Sewerage Disposal Committee, Municipal Corporation Chandigarh held here today under the chairmanship of Sh. Anil Kumar Dubey and attended by other members of committee namely Sh. Jagtar Singh Jagga, Sh. Hardeep Singh, Sh. Rajesh Gupta, Sh. Dalip Sharma and concerned officers of MCC.

The committee members discussed and decided following important issues related to water supply and sewerage disposal:

1.     The Committee discussed and decided that an agenda regarding reviewing the water tariff may be placed in the next general house meeting of MCC. The members observed that the water tariff has been increased and put extra load on the city residents.

2.     The members asked the concerned engineers to start the allotted developmental works at the earliest.

3.     The committee recommended exempting the condition to submit affidavit during the conversion of water connection from commercial to domestic.

5.     The committee members extended warm wishes to Sh. Suresh Kumar Gill, Executive Engineer, MCPH, MCC on his retirement.

Chandigarh, September 23:- The Municipal Corporation Chandigarh has signed MoU with the Indian Oil Corporation as dealer for opening retail outlet at sector 51-A, Vikas Marg, Chandigarh.

The Commissioner informed that the Chandigarh Administration has allotted plot No.4, Vikas Marg, Sector 51-A, Chandigarh for opening and running the Petrol Pump to the MCC and after inviting expression of interest from Govt. Oil companies, Indian Oil Corporation was selected and entered into MoU with the Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh. The work of completion at site is going on war footing level and the petrol pump will be commissioned shortly, he added.

Dr. Ranjana Bhandari currently working as Assistant Professor (Temporary) at University Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Panjab University, Chandigarhhas received INTERNATIONAL BRAIN RESEARCH ORGANIZATION (IBRO) funded Early Career Award-2020 amounting to 5000 Euro (5 lakhs) for her proposal entitled “Development of Brain-targeted therapeutics for Autism Spectrum Disorders”.
