Mayor visits ward No. 1 and 17 to inspect Swachhata Drive

Chandigarh, June 4:- Sh. Ravi Kant Sharma, Mayor, Chandigarh today visited ward No.1 and 17 to inspect ongoing swachhata drive in these areas.

He was accompanied by Sh. Mahesh Inder Siddhu, Senior Deputy Mayor and area councilor ward No.1, Smt. Asha Jaswal, former Mayor and area councilor ward No.17, Sh. Shailender Singh Chief Engineer, Sh. K.P. Singh, Superintending Engineer, Horticulture and other concerned Executive Engineers and staff of MCC.

During the visit at ward No. 17, the Mayor and team of officers inspects back lanes of markets near Gurudwara Sahib, sector 19. The Mayor instructed the road wing engineers to remove grass from the road berms and repair the broken pavement area behind the SCOs.

The shopkeepers complained the Mayor about menace of rats at the area. The Mayor instructed the sanitation inspector to keep this area neat and clean and issue challan to the violator shopkeepers/dhaba owners/sweet shops etc., which dump wastage of food items behind their shops, which further invite the menace of rats in the area.

In addition to that the Mayor also visited at ward No.1 including areas of Sector 8. During the visit at the market area the Mayor instructed the public health engineers to keep the road gullies clean from the dry leaves and repair the surrounding area of heritage manholes.

He also visited the Sehaj Safai Kendra at sector 8 and asked about the renovation of the structure including boundary walls from the B&R engineers. They apprised the Mayor that estimate has been prepared for the renovation and paving the outer area near the market and the SSK.

Mayor inspects ward No.3 alongwith area councilor; instructs officers to maintain cleanliness

Chandigarh, June 3:- Sh. Ravi Kant Sharma, Mayor, Chandigarh today visited ward No.3 alongwith area councilor Sh. Shakti Parkash Devshali and instructed the concerned staff to maingain proper cleanliness over there.

He was accompanied by senior officers including Sh. K.P. Singh, Superintending Engineer, Horticulture, Executive Engineers of B&R and Public Health divisions. Today a programme of Swachhata was carried out in the ward under Swachh Bharat Mission during which horticulture waste removed from the road berms besides pruning of trees and bushes from front side of Govt. houses of UT Printing Press pool at sector 29.

The team under the supervision of the Mayor inspected the road gullies work, which jetting machine was called to clear the blockage of pipeline and they also visited the tubewell over there and asked the concerned tube well operator to maintain proper cleanliness inside the compound.

The broken street lights were also repaired during the drive besides cleaning the parks and market areas. In addition to that the Mayor also distributed pamphlets creating awareness about maintaining cleanliness and precautions regarding COVID-19.

Mayor creates awareness about swachhata at ward No.3

Chandigarh, June 2:- Sh. Ravi Kant Sharma, Mayor, Chandigarh today flagged off a special sanitation under Swachh Bharat Mission at ward No.3, Chandigarh. Smt. Sunita Dhawan, area councilor and all concerned staff of Engineering wing, Sanitation wing and manpower took part in this drive.

During the drive special emphasis has been given to clean road berms, specially the horticulture waste lying after the recent storm. The Mayor instructed the concerned officers of Horticulture and sanitation wings to clean the road berms and other open areas.

The Mayor also instructed the public health officials to clean road gullies properly to avoid any kind of water logging in the area near Bal Bhawan, sector 23. The Mayor instructed the B&R officials to remove the malba from the road berms and asked them to challan the violators, who dumped malba infront of house No. 1293, Sector 23 after its renovation.

The Mayor also distributed pamphlets to the residents of area creating awareness about precautions about COVID-19 and upkeep of sanitation in their houses/surroundings besides making compost from their kitchen waste to use for gardening.

Sanitation Committee meeting held

Chandigarh, May 28:- A meeting of Sanitation Committee, Municipal Corporation Chandigarh was held here today under the chairmanship of Sh. Bharat Kumar and attended by Sh. Ravi Kant Sharma, Mayor and other members of committee namely Sh. Jagtar Singh, Sh. Shakti Parkash Devshali, Smt. Asha Jaswal, Ms. Shipra Bansal, Smt. Sunita Dhawan, Sh. Charanjiv Singh, Smt. Sheela Devi, Smt. Farmila, Dr. Amrit Warring, MOH and concerned Chief Sanitary Inspectors of MCC.

During the meeting the committee members discussed various important issues besides according approval to agenda items.

·        The committee members asked the concerned officers to remove dry leaves from the road berms/road sides. The MOH apprised the committee members that the MCC has ordered to hire sufficient tractor trollys to be engaged for lifting of dry leaves and horticulture waste throughout city and the backlog will be cleared within 15 days.

·        The committee asked the MOH to prepare proper plan to lift horticulture waste from households and road berms from city.

·        The Mayor requested all the councilors to participate in the month long Swachh Bharat Abhiyan launched on 20th May and get their areas waste free and malba free till June 19th.

·        The committee members said that balance of manpower deputed throughout city for sanitation purpose be maintained area wise and asked all the Chief Sanitary Inspectors to submit specified requirement of manpower and deployed present strength at their respective areas for cleaning of roads and other areas.

·        The committee members discussed the door to door waste collection of garbage issue of sector 21 and asked the MOH to bring agenda about this after seeking legal opinion into this matter. The committee decided that Chairman of Sanitation Committee and Medical Officer of Health will hold meeting with the representatives of door to door waste collectors of Sector 21 and sort out the issue at the earliest.

·        The committee members pointed out that the Sub Inspectors of sanitation department will ensure waste collection from the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th floors of households by the waste collectors to avoid complaints of citizens.

·        The committee asked the concerned CSIs to ensure proper feedback from the citizens/households in regard to door to door waste collection system.

·        The members were of the view that percentage of death cases be fixed in new appointments to avoid any kind of discrimination with the other categories.

·        The committee also recommended enhancement of 1 liter mustered oil, 2 big bathing soaps and 1 kg Gur in addition to already fixed quota to the Safaikarmacharis.

Road Committee meeting held

Chandigarh, May 28:- A meeting of Road Committee, Municipal Corporation Chandigarh was held here today under the chairmanship of Sh. Dalip Sharma and attended by other members of committee namely Smt. Heera Negi, Smt. Gurbax Rawat, Sh. Bharat Kumar, Haji Mohd. Khurshid Ali and concerned officers of MCC.

During the meeting the committee members discussed various important issues besides according approval to agenda items.

·        The committee members asked the concerned officers to check feasibility of parking at green belt sector 51.

·        The members asked the concerned officers to repair the left out works of footpath/road berms after laying of pipes/fiber etc. throughout city.

·        The committee asked the concerned officers to get the dug up roads repaired, where public health work have been completed.

·        The members said that special drive be carried out to remove malba from the road sides.

·        The committee asked to prepare a list of due roads to be re-carpetted during winter session/this financial year.

·        The members asked the officers to bring an agenda item regarding sound proofing of halls in all community centres to avoid noice pollution during the weddings/functions.

·        The committee asked the concerned officers to bring an agenda item regarding shortage of Junior Engineers and other officials required in field level.

·        Rough Cost Estimate for construction of approach roads for plot No. 779-796 for type-V accommodation and plot No. 159 & 168 type-III accommodation sector 29-A, Chandigarh at an estimated cost of Rs. 7.32 lacs.

·        Rough Cost Estimate for providing and fixing GI guard railing infront of Market adjoining V-4 road, sector 40 C&D, Chandigarh at an estimated cost of Rs. 5.74 lacs.

Mayor launches month long special sanitation drives in all over city under Swachh Bharat Mission

Chandigarh, May 20:- Sh. Ravi Kant Sharma, Mayor, Chandigarh today launched month long special sanitation drive under Swachh Bharat Mission from Sector 22, Chandigarh. These type of joint drives will be conducted throughout city on daily bases till 19th June, 2021.

While sharing information, the Mayor said that this time the sanitation drives will be carried out jointly by the all wings of MCC including Sanitation department for cleaning the whole area, Horticulture department for pruning of trees and cutting grass from parks and road berms, Public Health department for cleaning road gullies and chambers etc. and B&R wing for removing accumulated malba from road berms and other open areas.

During the drive special emphasis will be given on cleaning parks, road berms, streets and backlanes of houses and back side of Market places all over city. He said that underpasses, main roads, repair of existing dustbins, painting of children play equipments and railing etc. will be done during the cleanliness drives. Special emphasis will also be given for the cleanliness of public toilets and community toilets throughout city, mentioned the Mayor.

The Mayor said that during the drives in all over the city garbage will be removed from different areas including horticulture waste, garbage mixed with malba removed, accumulated garbage/malba from open/vacant spaces, cleaning of road berms, repair & cleaning of road gullies and cleaning of parks, pruning of trees, removal of shrubs etc. in open areas.

During the cleanliness drive, workers and manpower from different wings of MCC such as Medical officer of Health, Roads Wing, Horticulture Wing and Public Health wing have cleaned sector 22. The Mayor also distributed gloves, masks and vitamin D3 to all the sanitation workers.

Mayor honoured Corona Warriors at ward No.13

Sh. Ravi Kant Sharma, Mayor, Chandigarh today honoured the Corona fighter officers and officials of various departments at a programme held at community centre, sector 50 in presence of Smt. Heera Negi, area councilor, ward No.13.

The Mayor honoured the officials those who are working for providing medical kits, involved in Covid testing, collecting garbage from the houses of COVID positive patients  and taking care of their families in sector 49, 50, 51 and 63.

MCC to bear cremation charges of poor people died due to COVID-19

Chandigarh, May 12:- The Municipal Corporation Chandigarh has decided that the cremation charges of poor and needy people (death due to COVID-19) will be borne by the MCC.

This was decided by the Sh. Ravi Kant Sharma, Mayor and Sh. K.K. Yadav, IAS, Commissioner during visit of cremation grounds situated at Manimajra, Industrial area Ph-1 and Sector 25. They decided that cremation charges of the poor and needy people died due to COVID-19 will be incurred from the COVID cess.

During the visit to Manimajra cremation ground, the Mayor asked the concerned sanitary staff to maintain proper cleanliness over there inside the cremation ground compound.

The team was apprised by the Pandits at cremation grounds that Rs. 3000 are being charged for cremation and Rs. 1200 for Saamgri charges for the bodies died due to COVID and Rs. 1500 for Saamgri charges for the bodies died normal death.

The Mayor and Commissioner asked the Medical Officer of Health to display boards depicting the cremation charges, Saamgri charges etc. on the boards alongwith complaint number of MCC for any kind of assistance or complaint.

The Mayor asked the MOH to waive off the charges @ Rs. 30/- per body of LPG crematorium at Sector 25, cremation ground during the period of COVID-19.

MCC extends the deadline for depositing property tax till 30th June

Chandigarh, May 12:- Offering big relief to the city residents, the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh has extended the deadline from 31st May to 30th June, 2021 for paying the property tax due to the COVID-induced lockdown.

This was decided in a meeting held today between Sh. Ravi Kant Sharma, Mayor and Sh. K.K. Yadav, IAS, Commissioner, Municipal Corporation Chandigarh.

The Mayor said that as per the practice, the residential property taxpayers will get rebate of 20 percent and commercial property tax payers 10 percent till 30th June, 2021 instead of previous deadline i.e. 31st May, 2021 for depositing the levy for the fiscal 2021-22.

Noon Water Supply Shut Down

Chandigarh, May 11:- This is for the information of the general public that due to ongoing repair work of canal at various locations, discharged of water in canal at Water Works Kajauli has been reduced by the Irrigation Department, Punjab. Due to this repair, raw water from Water Works Kajauli cannot be done in full capacity which further cause to lower down the water level at all the Water Works.
