MC to Celebrate Teej at Janjghar Sector 23 on 19th

Chandigarh, August 13: – The Municipal Corporation Chandigarh is going to organize one day ‘Teej’ programme on 19th August, 2021 at Janjghar, Sector 23, Chandigarh.

This was decided in a meeting of Art, Sports & Culture Committee, MCC held here today under the chairpersonship of Ms. Shipra Bansal, councilor. The meeting was attended by Sh. Ravi Kant Sharma, Mayor as special invitee and other members of committee namely Sh. Maehsh Inder Siddhu, Haji Mohd. Khurshid Ali and concerned officers of MCC.

During the meeting it was decided that simple function may be organized at Janj Ghar, Sector 23, Chandigarh to mark Teej programme and only ceremonial Peeng will be installed at the venue besides arranging village profile/heritage style to give it a traditional look.

Governor launches phase-I of Public Bicycle Sharing Project in Chandigarh

Also launches SCADA system for TT Water, GPS on door to door waste collection vehicles & OBPAS for commercial units

Chandigarh, August 12:- Sh. V.P. Singh Badnore, Governor, Punjab and Administrator, UT, Chandigarh today inaugurated four projects under the Smart Cities Mission in Chandigarh including SCADA System for Tertiary Treated Water Distribution System, SCADA for monitoring of Door to Door Waste Collection Vehicles and Online Building Plan Approval System (OBPAS) for Commercial Units was held at the Rose Club Sector-16, along with Phase-1 of the Public Bicycle Sharing project which was launched at the Shanti Kunj Parking area, Sector-16.

The occasion was graced by Sh. Dharam Pal, IAS, Adviser to the Administrator, Sh. Ravi Kant Sharma, Mayor of the city, Sh. K.K. Yadav, IAS, Commissioner, MCC-cum-CEO, Chandigarh Smart City Ltd., Sh. Mandeep Singh Brar, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, Sh. Mahesh Inder Singh Siddhu, Senior Deputy Mayor, other councilors and officers of MCC and other dignitaries.

On the occasion, the Governor said that the SCADA system for monitoring of Door to Door Waste Collection Vehicles is an integral part of the Pan-City – Information and Communication Technology (ICT) based solutions under the Smart Cities Mission. The project aims to improve the efficiency of collection, transportation and disposal of municipal solid waste from Chandigarh in a cost effective and environmentally friendly manner. It will help to monitor, track and manage various SWM tasks related to Door to Door collection through GPS enabled devices mounted on 642 vehicles. The movement of the vehicles will be monitored by the team at the Command & Control center to ensure assigned routes are followed.

He said that Citizens can register on Clean Chandigarh App to get a notification on their mobile when the vehicle is about to reach their vicinity. They can also see the route of the waste collection vehicle assigned to their area. In the event of vehicle breakdown, the Command center will get an alert and replacement vehicle will be assigned to complete the work.

He expressed happiness over the decision of Chandigarh Smart City Ltd. for allocating a dedicated team at the Help Desk (0172-2787200) which will resolve the grievance related to door to door waste collection. He said that citizens will also be able to log their complaints through the Mobile application. The system will enable officials to check the amount of total dry and wet waste generated in the city.

Speaking on the project of Public Bike Sharing System, the Governor said that Chandigarh is the only city to launch the project on pan-city basis and was proud to announce the deployment of pedal assisted hybrid e-bicycles also. The project will ultimately be extended to 5000 bicycles & 617 stations in a year’s time, making it India’s densest and largest PBS system. The residents can now undertake their daily chores on bicycles and leave their worry of parking their vehicles aside. The advantage of this system is its nominal user charges and ease of locating nearest docking station through the SmartBike mobile app.

Sh. Ravi Kant Sharma, Mayor, Chandigarh said that city with the launch of Public Bicycle Sharing project with 1250 bicycles and 155 docking stations has entered into elite category of Indian cities to have their own Public Bicycle Sharing system. The much awaited project started off last year has borne the fruit.

He said that the facilities include Bicycle, Network of Docking Station; GPS based tracking of bicycles, Central Control System with Call Centre, Workshop, User Registration &Fare Collection System through Mobile app, Advertisement space. The project will be maintained by the concessionaire for 10 years and provide array of services. Notably, Chandigarh is the only North Indian city in the Top-11 cities to be rewarded under India Cycles4Change Challenge with a sum of Rs. 1 Cr and technical assistance from national & international experts to scale-up cycling infrastructure.

While speaking on the online projects, the Mayor said that SCADA for Tertiary Treated Water Recycled Water Distribution system is to monitor daily supply and requisite parameter for better management of O&M of Tertiary Treated Water distribution system. Started last year, the project saw establishment of SCADA Centre, installation of flow meters, level transmitter, pressure transmitter, Remote Terminal Unit (RTU’s), Programmable Logic Controller (PLC).

He said that for this project, a mobile app has also been developed to fetch real time data by the city officials. With this, monitoring and data collection related to Tertiary Treated Water will help in analysis of flow of TT water along with quantity and quality parameters which will help in future use of TT water for various usages.

Sh. K.K. Yadav, IAS, Commissioner, MCC-cum-CEO, CSCL informed about the another important citizen service launched is the Online Building Plan Approval System (OBPAS) for Commercial units through which the citizens will be able to apply for the approval of commercial building plans.

He said that through OBPAS, building plans can be submitted online i.e. faceless interface for granting approvals. SMS & Email Notifications will be sent to citizens related to their application status and further to pay the fee online. The project will ensure timely approval of the building plans and maintain transparency with well-defined roles for each department/employees. Citizens / Architects can also avail support of 24 X 7 Help Desk (0172-2787200) for any enquiries.

He said that the registration form for the architects is available on MCC and CSCL web portal (http://mcchandigarh.gov.in & https://www.chandigarhsmartcity.in).  Registration form will be approved by the Department of Urban Planning (Architecture Wing) and Username and password will be shared with the Architects through Email. The centralised dashboard will help track applications status and also grievances of Citizens / Architects.

Mayor inaugurates Open air gym at Sunlight Park, Sector 22

F&CC Meeting held

Chandigarh, July 22:- A meeting of Finance and Contract committee of Municipal Corporation Chandigarh was held here today under the chairmanship of Sh. Ravi Kant Sharma, Mayor and attended by Sh. K.K. Yadav, IAS, Commissioner and other members of committee namely Smt. Sunita Dhawan, councilor. Sh. Tilak Raj and Sh. S.K. Jain, Additional Commissioners, Sh. Rohit Gupta, Joint Commissioner, Sh. N.P. Sharma, Chief Engineer, Sh. Inderjeet Gulati, SE (B&R), Sh. K.P. Singh, SE (Horticulture), Dr. Amrit Warring, Medical Officer of Health and other concerned officers of MCC.

During the meeting, the committee accorded approval to following important agenda items:-

·        The Committee discussed the agenda item in detail regarding contract for Animal Birth Programme and decided that re-tender may be invited to carry out the function further.

·        The Committee also discussed and accorded approval regarding relaxation in monthly license fee for kiosm No.1,2,3, & 4 at Night Food Street, Sector 14, Chandigarh.

The committee members also discussed and decided that a combined cleanliness drive will be carried out to remove C&D waste, Horticulture waste and Garbage from vulnerable points from the city.

PU NSS Gets 3 Additional Units

The State NSS Cell, Chandigarh Administration, Directorate of Higher Education, has granted additional three units (300 Volunteers) to PU NSS, informed Prof. Ashwani Koul, Programme Coordinator, NSS, PU.

He further shared that at present NSS is having eight units and with this addition, PU will be able to enrol 1100 NSS volunteers for the present session, and will be able to expand its horizons through broader reach and visibility. NSS team of Panjab University is consistently contributing significantly at social front in all possible ways.

NSS team has been very active, even in the lockdown period, and undertook various initiatives of spreading virtual awareness related to Covid-19, Covid-Appropriate Behaviour, Covid-19 Vaccination, Road Safety Campaign, Digital Yoga Demonstration, workshop on Drug De-addiction, Cleanliness and Plantation drives for maintenance of various parks of PU, free distribution of food to construction labour working at Panjab University and many more.

Tree Plantation Drive at PU South Campus

The Department of NSS in association with Boys Hostel-2, and Horticulture Division, Panjab University organized a cleanliness and tree plantation drive at Park opposite Type-II Houses, Sector 25, Panjab University, Chandigarh. Plants of Chandini single and double, bottle brushes, hamelia, ficus , gardenia, and Jatropha were planted in the park under this drive.

Governor inaugurates 2nd MRF-cum-Garbage Transfer Station at Chandigarh

Chandigarh, July 22:- Sh. V.P. Singh Badnore, Governor, Punjab and Administrator, UT, Chandigarh today inaugurated the second Material Recovery Facility – cum – Garbage Transfer Station at Industrial Area, Phase I, Chandigarh in the presence of Sh. Dharam Pal, IAS, Adviser to the Administrator, Sh. Ravi Kant Sharma, Mayor, Chandigarh and other senior officers of Administration and MCC.

While addressing the gathering after inauguration of the Station, the Governor appreciated the efforts of Chandigarh Smart City Ltd. and Municipal Corporation Chandigarh for strengthening the Solid Waste Management in city. He said that with the availability of these MRF stations the MCC can reduce the rush of garbage collection at single point, i.e. in dadumajra and the with the MRF facility the segregation system of dry and wet waste will be strengthened.

The Governor said that the MCC has planed to set up waste to energy plant at Dadumajra, which seems to be a good step in processing the garbage generated in the city. He said these facility stations aims at reducing the time and cost involved in collection and transfer of waste too besides generating income by recovering the reusable and recyclable waste.

Sh. Ravi Kant Sharma said on the occasion that door to door waste collection vehicles will bring segregated waste i.e. dry & wet waste in different compartments at the Material Recovery Facility which is having dedicated space for sorting of recoverable dry waste into different categories like paper, card, recyclable plastics, glass bottles, metal etc, Dry waste left after recovery of recyclable materials will be compacted in huge compactors to compost plant located in Sector 25, Daddumajra, Chandigarh. Weigh bridges have been provided for measurement of dry and wet waste within the Material Recovery Facility.

He said that MRF facility is equipped with hopper- tippers and compactor capsules for transfer of waste from smaller (3.2 cum) vehicles to 20 cum capsules where the waste will be compacted to one fifth of the original volume. The volume reduction will save cost of transportation of waste and space required for disposal of waste.

Sh. K.K. Yadav, IAS, Commissioner, MCC-cum-CEO, Chandigarh Smart City Ltd. said that waste from Sector 1, 2, 3,4, 9, 10, 11, 12, 14, 15, 16, 17, 22, 23, 24, 25, 35, 36, 37, 38, 39, 40, 41, 42, 43, 52, 53, 54, 55, 56, Part 61 will be brought to MRF cum Garbage transfer station at Industrial area Phase I, Chandigarh.

He further said that the MRF stations will further be equipped with parking facilities and vehicle washing facilities. These will be monitored through 20 CCTV cameras. Each transfer station will have Material Recovery Facility cum Transfer Stations with 2 Conveyer Belts for each station, Industrial Shed, 3 Weigh Bridge, one Wash System, CCTV, Mechanical equipment for volume reduction of waste to one fifth of original volumes and 9 truck loaded capsules to carry compacted waste to Processing Plant / Composting plant site. The total project is being implement through two contract packages one for civil and one for Mechanical works.

Earlier, the Governor and other dignitaries planted saplings of ornamental trees in the compound area of MRF Station.

Mayor inaugurates Green Belt in Village Kajheri

He informed about the main features of the Green belt having total area 1.50 acres including boundary wall, children play equipment, foot paths, benches, plantation of ornamental trees, grassing etc. have been provided at a cost of Rs. 47 lacs. In addition to that various flower beds have been developed in this green belt.
