Mayor launches ‘Mai Bhi Digital’ campaign for street vendors

Chandigarh, September 16:- Sh. Ravi Kant Sharma, Mayor, Chandigarh today launched ‘Mai Bhi Digital’ (me too digital) campaign in the presence of Ms. Anindita Mitra, IAS, Commissioner, Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh. This campaign was launched from Shastri Market, Sector 22, Chandigarh for the street vendors, enabling them to accept and make payments digitally.

While addressing the street vendors and masses during the occasion, the Mayor said that in order to mitigate the impact of the COVID-19 lockdown on the street vendors, the Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs (MoHUA) has launched Prime Minister Street Vendor’s AtmaNirbhar Nidhi (PM SVANidhi).

He said that street vendors would use PAYTM digital mode of transactions in their daily street vending business to promote cashless transactions. He said our Prime Minister has also visualized a dream of making INCLUSIVE DIGITAL INDIA by bringing in all sections of society.

He said that Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA), Government of India has engaged PAYTM, a Digital Payment Aggregator (DPA) for Chandigarh. Street Vendors Federation Sector 22 Chandigarh assisted in mobilizing street vendors from the vending zones for on the spot onboarding of street vendors. Today total 21 street vendors were distributed QR code for PAYTM digital transactions and the same facility will be provided to the rest street vendors in different parts of city by end of this month.

Speaking about the benefit to the street vendors with this scheme ‘mai bhi digital’, Ms. Anindita Mitra, IAS, Commissioner, MCC said that the special micro-credit facility scheme provided working capital to the street vendors so that they can resume their businesses and in a bid to make the scheme more accessible, the beneficiaries falling under the scheme will be trained in using the digital payments and would be able to receive payments and pay for material they procure from sellers using unique QR codes.

She said that the training on digital payments to the street vendors will be provided on a safe and secure platform and the cell phones of the street vendors will be equipped with the software to make transactions.

Apni Mandi and Day Market Committee meeting held

Chandigarh, September 16:- A meeting of Apni Mandi and Day market committee, Municipal Corporation Chandigarh was held here today under the chairpersonship of Smt. Chanderawati Shukla and attended by other members of committee namely Sh. Rajesh Kumar, Sh. Jagtar Singh, Smt. Sunita Dhawan, Smt. Kamla Sharma, Sh. Gurpreet Singh Dhillon, Smt. Heera Negi (Special invitee) and concerned officers of MCC.

During the meeting various issues were discussed and the following decisions were taken:

The committee members asked the concerned officers to explore the feasibility of shifting Apni Mandi and Day market of sector 50 to sector 63 (open space near V-5 road) and also demarcate the site within a week. Initially this day market will run departmentally and will be added in Zone list for draw of lot in next year after seeing the response of day market of sector 63.

The committee decided and directed the Apni mandi officials to ensure that only farmers having proper ID may be allowed to sit in their space and enforcement staff will remove illegal vendors except authorized farmers to sit in Apni Mandi sites.

The committee has invited some vendors of day market sites for hearing their grievances including no public toilet and water tanker facilities in the mandi due to which vendors as well as general public feels inconvenience. The committee asked the concerned officials to ensure proper water facility as well as public toilet system be provided in each day market site.

The Committee also decided to start day market at sector 37 on Sunday and at Maloya near EWS houses on Monday. The committee also decided that these day market sites may be allotted through draw of lots as per previous practice.

The committee also decided that one enforcement inspector should be deployed for proper enforcement of Apni Mandi and Day market sites.

Commissioner visits C&D Waste Plant, MRF Stations & STP at 3 BRD

Chandigarh, September 10:- Ms. Anindita Mitra, IAS, Commissioner, Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh today visited various big projects of Municipal Corporation Chandigarh including Construction & Demolition (C&D) waste plant at Industrial Area Phase-I, Material Recovery Facility Station and Sewerage Treatment Plant, 3 BRD, Chandigarh.


The Commissioner instructed the concerned engineers to ensure that the C&D plant of 150 MT functions at full capacity daily. She also said that the machinery be upgraded very soon to maximize the capacity so that most works of MCC can be executed using material from this plant.


She emphasized that awareness needs to be created in some parts of city from where waste is still coming in mixed form in the MRF stations. She said that STPs will be upgraded to ensure high quality of tertiary treated water.


                    She was accompanied by concerned senior officers of Municipal Corporation. The Chief Engineer apprised the Commissioner that the work at C&D waste plant consists processing of construction and demolition waste & manufacturing of PCC products to be used for pavements, road work, fencing work etc. Processing plant accepts all cement, construction demolition waste except steel up to the size 1-1.5 feet which is being processed by crushing and washing in four type of aggregates i.e. sand, 10mm Bajri, 20mm Bajri, and 40mm Bajri.

                    After that the Commissioner visited Material Recovery Facility Centre at 3 BRD and Industrial area Phase-I, where the Joint Commissioner apprised her about the functioning of the centre. He apprised that door to door waste collection vehicles brings segregated waste i.e. dry & wet waste in different compartments at the Material Recovery Facility which is having dedicated space for sorting of recoverable dry waste into different categories like paper, card, recyclable plastics, glass bottles, metal etc. Dry waste left after recovery of recyclable materials are being compacted in huge compactors in compost plant located in Sector 25, Daddumajra, Chandigarh. Weigh bridges have been provided for measurement of dry and wet waste within the Material Recovery Facility.


The Commissioner further visited Sewerage Treatment Plant, 3 BRD. She reviewed the waste water management system in Chandigarh where she was briefed by the Chief Engineer about treatment of sewage received in STP.


The Commissioner also visited Water Works at Sector 39, Chandigarh and she was apprised by the Chief Engineer that 87 MGD canal water received from Kajauli Water works and further distributed as per the set pattern. He informed that the per capita availability of water is 245 LPCD which is highest in the country.

F&CC approves provision of toilet blocks booth market 47 to facilitate Women shopkeepers

Chandigarh, August 26:- To facilitate the women shopkeepers in sector 47 booth market, the Finance and Contract Committee of Municipal Corporation Chandigarh has approved the construction of public toilet block at a cost of Rs. 27.01 lacs.

A decision in this regard has been taken during a meeting of the committee held here today under the chairmanship of Sh. Ravi Kant Sharma, Mayor and attended by Ms. Anindita Mitra, IAS, Commissioner and other members of committee namely Sh. Anil Kumar Dubey, Sh. Rajesh Kumar, Sh. Satish Kumar and Smt. Sunita Dhawan, councilors and other concerned officers of MCC were also present.

The committee also discussed and accorded approval for the agenda regarding celebration of 34th Chrysanthemum show scheduled to be organized in December this year at an estimated cost of Rs. 10.65 lacs with the condition keeping in view the COVID situation at that time the programmes may be allowed on later stage.

In addition to that the F&CC accorded approval for providing and fixing of 80 mm thick interlocking paver blocks along green belt of Kajheri for parking at sector 52, Chandigarh at an estimated cost of Rs. 31.48 lacs.

The committee members also discussed the issue of parking lots throughout city and asked the concerned officers to submit report within two days according to the checklist of facilities to be provided by the contractors in the parking lots as per the norms finalized in the Tender document.

कमिश्नर द्वारा इंजीनियरों को पिपलीवाला टाउन में जल सप्लाई की समस्या का प्राथमिकता से समाधान करने के निर्देश

चंडीगढ़, 25 अगस्तःनगर निगम, चंडीगढ़ के पब्लिक हैल्थ सर्किल के इंजीनियरों की एक टीम ने पिपलीवाला टाउन में दौर करके पेय जल के नमूने लेकर इनकी जांच की और बाद में इन नमूनों को जांच के दौरान सही पाया गया।

चंडीगढ़ नगर निगम के कमिश्नर श्रीमती अनिंदिता मित्रा, आईएएस के आदेशों के बाद, संबंधित इंजीनियरों की एक टीम द्वारा पिपलीवाला टाउन, मनीमाजरा का दौरा किया गया और इस क्षेत्र में पानी की सप्लाई की पुनः जांच की गई और जांच में सही पाया गया। पानी में क्लोरीन की मात्रा को भी वांछित स्तर पर ठीक पाया गया।


निगम कमिश्नर ने समाचार पत्रों में छपी खबरों पर गंभीरता से संज्ञान लिया जिसमें बताया गया था कि सोमवार को पानी की सप्लाई में सीवरेज का पानी मिलने के कारण लोगों ने सड़कें जाम कर दी हैं। इसके बाद कमिश्नर ने तुरंत इंजीनियरों की एक टीम को पीपलीवाला टाउन में पेयजल के सैंपलों की जांच करने और पानी सप्लाई की लाइनों की ठीक से जांचने के लिए भेजा।


इंजीनियरों ने बताया कि पिपलीवाला टाउन एरिया के मकान नं. 2089 से लेकर मकान नं. 2160 तक घरों में गंदे पानी के आने और सीवेज ओवरफ्लो होने की शिकायत मिली थी। उक्त शिकायत प्राप्त होने के बाद सफाई मजदूरों को उसी दिन अर्थात् दिनांक 23.08.2021 को पिपलीवाला टाउन के सीवरेज सिस्टम को साफ करने के लिए काम पर लगा दिया गया और उसी दिन सीवरेजों की मुकम्मल सफाई कर दी गई।


गौरतलब है कि यह क्षेत्र बहुत घनी आबादी वाला इलाका है और लगभग 35 साल पहले यहां सीवरेज लाइनें बिछाई गई थीं, जो वर्तमान में सीवेज के गंदे पानी के बहाव के लिए अपर्याप्त हैं। इस समस्या के स्थायी समाधान के लिये वार्ड नं. 26 (पिपलीवालाटाउन, मनीमाजरा) के सीवरेज नेटवर्क के मजबूतीकरण एवं पुनर्वास कार्य हेतु 68.84 लाख रुपये की राशि की मंजूरी हाल ही में प्रशासन द्वारा दी गई है। इसके लिए टेंडर मांगे जा चुके हैं और जल्द ही काम शुरू कर किया जाएगा।

इस इलाके में जल सप्लाई की लाइनें भी लगभग 35 साल पहले बिछाई गई थीं और अब ये खराब और जर्जर हो चुकी हैं। पीपलीवाला नगर सहित मनीमाजरा की विभिन्न कॉलोनियों में पानी सप्लाई की नई डीआई पाइप लाइनें बिछाने के लिए एक प्रस्ताव तैयार किया गया है जिस पर अनुमानित लागत 323.72 लाख रुपये आयेगी और इस प्रस्ताव को जनरल हाउस द्वारा मंजूर किया जा चुका है।

Commissioner directs engineers to resolve water supply issue in Pipliwala Town on priority

Chandigarh, August 25:- A Team of Engineers, Public Health Circle, Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh checked samples of drinking water in Pipliwala Town today morning and were found in order.

             Following the directions of Ms. Anindita Mitra, IAS, Commissioner, Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh, a team of engineers concerned visited the Pipliwala Town, Manimajra today morning and the water supply of the area was rechecked and was submitted found to be  in order besides chlorination was also found upto the mark.

             The Commissioner took serious note of the news item appeared in the Newspapers in which it has been reported that due to mixing of sewage in water supply, people had blocked the roads on Monday. She immediately sent a team of engineers to check the water supply lines properly besides checking samples of drinking water in the Pipliwala Town.

             The team of engineers reported that a complaint was received from Pipliwala Town Area #2089 to # 2160 regarding dirty water and sewage overflow. On receiving the said complaint, workers were put on job to clear the sewerage network of Pipliwala Town on same day i.e. on dated 23.08.2021. The same was cleared on the same day.

             According to the report, the area is very thickly populated and sewerage lines were laid approximately 35 years back, which are insufficient to cater to the present sewage generation. For permanent solution, an estimate for the work of strengthening and rehabilitation of sewerage network of Ward No.26 (Pipliwalatown,Manimajra) has recently been administratively approved amounting to Rs.68.84 lakh. The tenders for the same have been invited and  work will be allotted shortly.

             The water supply lines in this area were also laid about 35 years back and have worn out. An estimate amounting to Rs.323.72 lakh for laying new DI pipe line in various colonies of Manimajra including Pipliwala town has been prepared and has been approved by the General House.

MCC organized farewell to Commissioner

Chandigarh, August 20:- The Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh has organized a farewell programme here today to Sh. Kamal Kishore Yadav, IAS, Commissioner, Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh. During the programme Sh. Ravi Kant Sharma, Mayor, all the Councilors and officers of MCC were present.

He said that Municipal Corporation is a body which deals with the issues of daily life of the general public by providing basic amenities like sanitation, water supply, sewerage disposal, street lights, stray dog & stray cattle menace and other many more direct services to the public and any officer and public representative has an privilege to serve for the public directly. He said that as Commissioner, Municipal Corporation in Chandigarh I have learnt so many things from the Former Mayors, Councillors and stakeholders of different fields in the city, they were always supportive, he added.

He said that today, I would like to thank everyone who is always there to help and support me, even my colleague officers through whom I received wealth of knowledge and respect which is more than any treasure. I am thankful to all of you to be a part of this journey and make my journey easier, he said.

The Mayor stressed upon the necessity to perpetuate cultural values among the masses especially in younger generation. He also enlightened the gathering about the social, religious and historical significance of the Teej Festival. The Mayor also sung a beautiful folk song of Punjab “Maye ni Maye…”.

Smt. Asha Jaswal, former Mayor and MCC councilor also sung a Himachali song dedicated to girls on the Teej programme.

While Welcoming the Guests, Ms. Shipra Bansal said that Municipal Corporation Chandigarh has made this festival as an annual feature but due to COVID precautions this time this was not opened for general public. She said that people of Chandigarh should know about their rich culture and we the Municipal Corporation is making small effort to gather the precious traditional festivals like Teej.

Earlier, the Chairperson Arts, Culture & Sports Committee and others honoured the Chief Guest, Guest of Honour and other Guests & councilors during the programme by giving them traditional shawls/Phulkaris and medicinal plants.
