Water Supply Committee meeting held

Chandigarh, November 9:- A meeting of water supply and sewerage disposal committee, MCC was held under the chairmanship of Sh. Shakti Parkash Devshali and attended by other members of committee namely Sh. Mahesh Inder Singh Siddhu, Smt. Asha Jaswal, Sh. Jagtar Singh, Smt. Chanderwati Shukla, Sh. Rajesh Kumar and concerned officers of MCC.

The committee discussed the issue of water supply connection in villages outside deh abadi area (Red line) and favored to release temporary water connections. The committee also recommended that action may be initiated against the defaulters who possess illegal connection in the villages.

The committee discussed and favored that temporary connections be given to the tenants of the booths on the bases of rent agreement.

The members discussed the water supply connection from temporary to regular at Govindpura area, Manimajra and favored to dispose off the matter at the earliest by conducting detailed study within week.

The committee asked the concerned engineers to check water supply pressure in industrial area and maintain it properly besides proper cleaning of toilet blocks in green belts.

Commissioner suspends MCC officials for misconduct on duty

Chandigarh, November 2:- Ms. Anindita Mitra, IAS, Commissioner, Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh has suspended three MCC officials on charges of ‘Misconduct on duty’ involving the concern of wrongly issued coupons to vendors for sector 17, Plaza including charge sheet to OSD-II for lack of supervision being officer incharge.

The Commissioner suspended Sh. Sudesh Kumar, Senior Assistant, presently posted in parking branch with immediate effect for gross misconduct on his part by not performing his specific duty assigned to him of issuance of coupons to the shopkeepers of sector 17 only.

Sh. Yogesh Kumar, clerk and Sh. Simranjeet Singh, peon in office of Executive Engineer, Roads division No.3 have also been suspended with immediate effect for gross misconduct on their part by performing the unauthorized duty which was not assigned to them by the competent authority and wrongly issued coupons to the vendors which was supposed to be issued to shopkeepers of sector 17 only.

During suspension period their headquarter will be office of joint commissioner, MCC.

In addition to that the Commissioner has also charge sheeted Sh. Surinder Sharma, Account Officer, looking after the charge of OSD-II, MCC for lack of supervision being officer incharge of the issuance of coupons for setting up of temporary stalls for Diwali festival.

Meanwhile, the wrongly issued slips were withdrawn immediately and enforcement wing of MCC removed all the unauthorized vendors from sector 17.

Mayor inaugurates toilet block at sector 22

Chandigarh, October 20:- Sh. Ravi Kant Sharma, Mayor, Chandigarh today inaugurated renovated toilet block at Sector 22-D in the presence of prominent persons of the area.

While speaking on the occasion, the Mayor said that this toilet block has been renovated under the area based development of sectors by the Chandigarh Smart City Ltd. He said that there is provision of Separate toilet for differently able person and transgender. The sanitary napkin machine along with incinerator has been provided in the ladies toilet for their convenience.

The Mayor said that the urinal for children has also been provided. The sufficient lighting arrangement and Exhaust Fans along with proper ventilation have been made for the convenience of Public. The QR Code has been displayed in the toilet for public feedback regarding cleanliness of toilet, availability of water and electricity etc.

Mayor inaugurates dedicated water supply line to sector 22

Chandigarh, October 20:- Sh. Ravi Kant Sharma, Mayor, Chandigarh today inaugurated the independent and dedicated water supply line for catering water supply from sector 37 to Sector 22 Chandigarh involving expenditure about  Rs.62 Lakh.

Speaking on the occasion, the Mayor said that there was demand of the residents of Sector 22 of the low water pressure supply in the area and even does not reach to Second Floor of Marla Houses for the last many years. The residents of second floor had to fetch the water in the buckets from Ground floor and inconvenience to particular senior residents.

He said that the dedicated water distribution line from water works Sector 37 has been laid to supply the water to residents with adequate pressure so that water may reach to tanks placed on the roofs. With the completion of this project, the demand of the residents of Sector 22 now fulfilled. The water supply to the residents will be supply with adequate pressure, added the Mayor.

Mayor lays foundation stone of laying of paver blocks in village Burail

Chandigarh, October 20:- Sh. Ravi Kant Sharma, Mayor, Chandigarh today laid foundation stone of laying of paver blocks in village Burail in the presence of local area councilor Sh. Kanwarjit Rana and prominent persons of the area.

While addressing the local residents, the Mayor said that it was long pending demand of the public to pave the major areas of the village Burail near old fort area, road from side of Dev Samaj College and road near Bhopal Singh area.

He said that the work of laying of paver blocks in total 8207 Sqm area will be completed within stipulated time frame of 6 months at a cost of 68 lacs. He asked the concerned engineers to find out alternate routes during the laying of paver blocks to the local residents to reach out their residences and businesses so as to avoid any kind of hindrance due to execution of work.

MCC inspects parking sites; fines contractors for violations

Chandigarh, October 18:- Following the directions of Ms. Anindita Mitra, IAS, Commissioner, Municipal Corporation Chandigarh, different teams of engineering wing conducted inspection of various parking sites under zone-1 &2 from 8th October to 17th October, 2021 on daily bases.

During the inspection at Zone-1 (32 parking sites) violations of haphazard parking found and challan amounting to Rs. 10,000/- was issued to the contractor. While many violations were found in Zone-2 (Sector 5,8,9,17, and 22) like haphazard parking, attendant without proper uniform. Challans of Rs. 70,000/- were issued to the contractor for violations found.

The Commissioner took serious note of the violations in the parking sites and asked the concerned officers to take strict action against the contractors besides issuing notice.

MCC removes illegal publicity hoardings from city markets

Chandigarh, October 18:- Taking a serious view on mushrooming of illegal advertisement hoardings, the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh today carried out anti encroachment drive in different parts of city and removed unauthorized publicity hoardings.

Following the directions of Ms. Anindita Mitra, IAS, Commissioner, MC, Chandigarh, a team of engineering wing and enforcement wing removed approximately 160 glow signs, hoardings, boards and flexes seizing 3 big truck load of items.

More than 60 boards and glow signs, hoardings have been removed from sector 22 A and approximately 100 glow signs have been removed from sector 34 C.

The Commissioner said that  such type of anti encroachment drives will be carried out on regular bases. The penalty will be imposed upon the violators as per Chandigarh Advertisement Control Order 1954 and Delhi Defacement of Property Act 2007, she added.

MCC Commissioner reviews developmental works of public health circle

Chandigarh, October 16:- Ms. Anindita Mitra, IAS,  Commissioner, Municipal Corporation Chandigarh reviewed various works being carried out
by the Public Health Wing of Municipal Corporation today. She was accompanied by Sh. N P Sharma, Chief Engineer and other officers of Public Health
Wing of MC to review the works.

She initially had an introduction of officers upto JE level. She was briefed about the various responsibilities entrusted to various officers Shailender Singh, Superintending Engineer informed that various works such as Water Supply, Sewerage, Storm water drainage and O&M of Public and Community toilets. He also briefed upon the Budget Provisions for Public Health during the year 2021-22. Commissioner directed to ensure that work is equally distributed amongst all officers. She also directed that seniority should be ensured while assigning additional charges of higher
posts.

The progress of all ongoing works under the Public Health Wing was reviewed and strict directions were given to officers to ensure the time lines. She asked the officers to identify the bottlenecks such as road cut permissions or permissions from the Forest Department and pursue that the permissions are obtained at the earliest. She also directed to issue notices to the defaulting contractors / agencies and take action as per the agreement. The progress of works will be reviewed on a monthly basis.

The Commissioner also acknowledged the good work done by officers of Public Health team and said that it feels good whenever appreciation is received from the general public for responding to the grievance immediately and resolving it in a time bound manner. She motivated the officers to do work by keeping the interest of general public on top priority.

Mayor inaugurates 5 nos. Newly renovated public toilet blocks

Chandigarh, October 13:-   Sh. Ravi Kant Sharma, Mayor, Chandigarh today inaugurated 5 newly renovated Public Toilet Blocks in Chandigarh. Two Public Toilets in Sector 35-C Market and 2 Public Toilets in Sector 22-C Market and one Public Toilet in sector 22-D, Chandigarh and the same opened for the public.

He said that sanitary napkin machine along with incinerator have been provided in the ladies toilet for their convenience. The urinal for children has also been provided. The sufficient lighting arrangement and Exhaust Fans along with proper ventilation have been made for the convenience of Public.

He further said that QR Code has been displayed in the toilet for public feedback regarding cleanliness of toilet, availability of water and electricity etc. In all toilets water storage tank has been provided along with pumping motor to ensure the availability of water in toilet 24 Hours.

The Mayor said mobile app will also will be available for the attendance of the attendant. He will also take feedback from the public after every two hour in a day. The feedback directly go to dashboard of MoHUA.

He said that the Chandigarh Smart City Limited has planned to renovate 38 Public Toilet Blocks in Area Based Development Sectors 17, 22, 35 and 43 Chandigarh. The detail of toilets to be renovated sector wise is as under:-

1)         Sector 17-                    10 Toilets

2)         Sector 22-                    16 Toilets

3)         Sector 35 & 43            12 Toilets

The total cost involved in renovating above 38 toilets is about 4 Crore.

He said 21 toilet blocks out of 38 toilets has been renovated and opened for the Public.  In all the renovated toilets, there is provision of Separate toilet for differently able person and transgender.

Governor laid foundation stone of development works in 13 villages

Chandigarh, October 9:- In order to provide ease of living in the villages falling under the jurisdiction of Municipal Corporation Chandigarh, Sh. Banwarilal Purohit, Governor, Punjab and Administrator, UT, Chandigarh today laid foundation stone of various developmental projects scheduled to be done in 13 villages here today at village Behlana in the presence of Smt. Kirron Kher, Member Parliament (virtual), Sh. Ravi Kant Sharma, Mayor, Sh. Dharmpal, IAS, Adviser to the Administrator, UT, Chandigarh, other senior officers of Chandigarh Administration and Municipal Corporation.

While addressing the local residents and representatives of village development committees of all 13 villages, the Governor said that he can understand due to COVID Pandemic the pace of development works hampered to some extent but the intention to do the work remained intact amongst the officers of Chandigarh Administration and Municipal Corporation. With the execution of these sewerage and water supply schemes, approximately a population of 1.30 Lacs would be benefited.

The Governor said that in India, water is given the status of an incarnation of God, ‘Varuna’, who is worshipped as the god of all forms of the water element. It’s my sincere advice to you all that to meet the diminishing water resources and escalating water demand, water conservation is the need of an hour.

He said that in today’s context, the saying “water saved is water generated” is truer than ever before. We all need to learn how to use water judiciously. Integrated water resource management has now become absolutely necessary. Similarly, the existing institutions involved in providing the basic needs be restructured and strengthened. The 3 R strategy of reduce, recycle and reuse of the resources has to find place in our day to day lives.

Smt. Kirron Kher, Member Parilament, Chandigarh addressed the public virtually. She said that with the increase in Population of Chandigarh, the population here in these villages also increased manifold. The capacity of the infrastructure has, therefore, become inadequate.  The developmental works in these will be carried out by the Municipal Corporation in phased manner and today the foundation stone of Sewerage and Water Supply of 13 villages have been laid and the work commenced from today.

She said that besides this, renovation works of Dharmshalas, Sampark centres, Anganwadi Buildings, Health Centres, Cremation Ground, Panchayat Ghar and Community Centres will also be taken up in these villages at the cost of Rs. 204 Lacs for which tendering process has already been initiated.

Sh. Ravi Kant Sharma, Mayor, Chandigarh said that the Municipal Corporation has undertaken various projects for the upkeep of these villages so that the residents of these areas would not face issues related to basic amenities. The basic infrastructural facilities will also be upgraded and strengthened at a cost of Rs.102.21 crores. Existing conventional streetlights are also required to be replaced by LED lights and various dark spots need to be lightened on priority, he added.

He said that a sum of Rs. 50 crore has been received as dedicated funds and initially the work for strengthening the sewerage, storm water drainage and water supply pipelines in these villages has been taken up for upgradation. The work of internal streets, roads, footpaths, horticulture & Electrical work will be taken up after completion of the Public Health work. To carry out these remaining works additional dedicated funds amounting to Rs. 20 crores are required, added the Mayor.

Sh. Dharmpal, IAS, Adviser to the Administrator, UT, Chandigarh said that there were issues of these village residents are facing daily problems of contaminated water, overflow of sewerage on the street/roads, broken roads/streets, poor conditions of footpaths and storm water is running in open drains. Existing conventional streetlights are also required to be replaced by LED lights and various dark spots are also required to be lightened.

He said that for the upgradation of these infrastructure facilities like sewerage line, storm line, water supply line, streets/roads, lights and upgradation of buildings in these villages, a project has been prepared by the Municipal Corporation and the work has been initiated today.

Earlier, Ms. Anindita Mitra, IAS, Commissioner, Municipal Corporation Chandigarh welcomed the Chief Guest and all other guests during the programme. She said that these thirteen villages have been brought under the jurisdiction of Municipal Corporation. Chandigarh are Behlana, Raipur Khurd, Raipur Kalan, Makhan Majra, Daria, Mauli Jagran, Kishangarh, Kaimbala, Khudda Jassu, Khudda Lahora , Khuda Ali Sher, Dhanas, Sarangpur on March 2019. She said that the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh has prepared a detailed developmental plan for the upgradation of infrastructure in these villages and the works are being started from today and it will be completed well before the stipulated time frame.

Others who present on the occasion were Sh. Nitin Gupta, IAS, Finance Secretary, Sh. Devendra Dalai, IFS, Chief Conservator of Forest, Sh. Mandip Singh Brar, IAS, Deputy Commiasioner, Sh. Arun Sood, President BJP, Chandigarh, Haji Mohd. Khushird Ali, Incharge village development committee, Behlana, other councilors of MCC, village development committee incharges (nominated councilors of MCC), other senior officers of Chandigarh Administration and Municipal Corporation and former Sarpanchs of the 13 villages.
