Delegation from Raipur (Chhattisgarh) visits Chandigarh; praises MCC projects

Chandigarh, May 8: – Sh. Aijaz Dhebar, Mayor, Sh. Parmod Dubey, ‘Sabhapati’ (Chairman) and Smt. Minal Chgan Chaube, Leader of Opposition from Raipur Municipal Corporation (Chhattisgarh) alongwith delegation of 81 councillors & officers visited the city beautiful, Chandigarh today.

The delegation was on its 2 days study tour regarding “Solid Waste Management & Best Practices of Municipal Corporation Chandigarh”. The delegation reached Chandigarh last evening and received by senior officers of MCC.

Today morning their day long sight visit schedule was started with the presentation on Best practices of Municipal Corporation at hotel Homtel, industrial area, Phase-I, Chandigarh. Smt. Sarbjit Kaur, Mayor, Chandigarh welcomed the delegation followed by brief introduction of the projects and best practices and functions of the MCC by Ms. Anindita Mitra, IAS, Commissioner, Municipal Corporation Chandigarh.

The Commissioner gave a brief presentation on Solid Waste Management system, Roads, Water Supply, Garden and Green belts, Street Lights, Tertiary Treated Water Supply, processing of C&D Waste, Property tax, management of Gaushalas, Vendor rehabilitation system and other projects of MCC.

The Mayor Raipur, Mayor Chandigarh and Commissioner, MCC released a booklet on Swachhata during the presentation meeting, which was highly appreciated by the delegation.

After the presentation meeting, the delegation were visited various best projects of MCC through 5 different electric buses of CTU. The visited projects including MRF Station, industrial area, Ph-I, Aerobic compost pits at fragrance garden, Sector 36 and Rose Garden, Sewerage Treatment Plant, Maloya, C&D Waste Plant, Ind. area, Ph-I and Integrated Command & Control Centre, Sector 17, Chandigarh.

During their sight visits, different teams headed by nodal officers of MCC briefed about the projects at their respective sites. The delegation also visited for sightseeing including Bird Aviary near Sukhna Lake, Rock Garden and Capitol Complex.

The Mayor and the councilors of Raipur praised the beauty of Chandigarh including best roads in the country, neat and clean parks, planned markets and no encroachments in the road sides. They appreciated the horticulture wing especially for maintaining more than 1800 neighborhood parks in the city. He also appreciated the cleanliness of the city and solid waste management system including management of STPs and running of MRF stations in city.

MCC issues 98 notices against wastage of water and 7 violators challaned

Chandigarh, April 15:- The Municipal Corporation Chandigarh today started the drive to curb the wastage of drinking water and issued 98 notices to the violators and 7 challans have been issued to the violators.


Following the orders of Ms. Anindita Mitra, IAS, Commissioner, Municipal Corporation Chandigarh 18 teams of SDEs and JEs of MCC started the checking of misuse of potable water from 5.30 am to 8.30 am. It was the first day of the drive when several violators were found misusing drinking water at their houses. A fine of Rs. 5000 was imposed on those challaned.


Under the annual drive from April 15 to June 30, watering of lawns, courtyards, washing of cars and other vehicles using hosepipe invites a challan with a fine of Rs. 5000 while notices are issued if leaking tank, taps, water meters and water coolers are found by MCC teams. Those served notices have been asked to get the leakages repaired within two days, later a challan will be issued.

Most of the violators were found washing their cars and courtyards. 


The teams also clicked pictures and made videos of the violations as a documentary evidence.
The Commissioner appealed the citizens of Chandigarh to save drinking water and avoid wastage of it. She said that people may opt for TT water for watering their lawns.

Mayor & Commissioner pays homage to Fire brigade jawans

Chandigarh, April 14:- A function was organized to mark the Fire Services Day by the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation on Thursday at Fire Station, Sector 17. The Fire Service Week will be organized from 14th to 20th April, 2022 under the theme “Learn Fire Safety, Increase Productivity”.

Smt. Sarbjit Kaur, Mayor, Chandigarh, Ms. Anindita Mitra, IAS, Commissioner and others laid wreaths at the Martyrs’ Column, in Fire Station, Sector 17 and paid homage to fire brigade jawans. A two-minute silence was also observed in memory of all those firemen in the country who lost their lives while on duty.

In her speech, the Mayor applauded the bravery of Fire personnel during crisis. She appreciated the Fire department’s work during major fire incidents in the past. She applauded the firemen for distinguished and meritorious services for their work during the performing their duties.

She remembered the Fire Martyrs’, who sacrificed their lives for saving mankind in the country namely Sh. Rabindra Mishra, Leading Fireman, Bihar Fire Service and Sh. Balu Damu Deshmukh, Fireman rescuer, MIDC, Maharashtra Fire Service including others.

She said that a special campaign on fire safety would be organized in the city schools and to give more emphasis on fire safety mass awareness activities by conducting fire safety drills in the schools. The salient features like evacuation drills, implementation of fire safety order do & don’t in case of natural and manmade disaster and how to use fire extinguisher etc. would be incorporated in the Fire safety drills.

The Mayor appealed all the citizens of Chandigarh to join hands during the fire safety awareness programme to be conducted in various parts of city from April 14th to 20th, 2022 (to mark fire service week). She said that every citizen should know about operation of fire fighting extinguishers. She also appealed to the city residents to adopt safe housekeeping & approved electrical appliances in their houses and work places.

While addressing the Firemen, Ms. Anindita Mitra, IAS, Commissioner said that importance of organizing such functions to recognize the duties rendered by firemen during fire incidents and to create awareness among the masses regarding fire safety measures.

She said that we should not limited to one week’s awareness function but it should be regular exercise throughout the year to create awareness and mock drill programmes. She instructed the concerned staff for preparing proper inventory of items required throughout the year for maintenance purpose and get it approved once from the competent authority to avoid procedural delay.

The Mayor and Commissioner also paid homage to Bharat Ratna Baba Saheb Bhimrao Ambedkar for his splendid contribution in preparing the Constitution of India on his birth anniversary today.

The Fire Services Day has been observed throughout the country since 1944, the year when more than 500 persons including 66 Fire Brigade personnel lost their lives in a major fire in Mumbai. Fire brigade officials said that in 1944, a huge consignment of arms and ammunition kept at the Mumbai dockyard caught fire. The arms and ammunition was meant to be used against Japan by the British, who then ruled over India. Over 500 persons lost their lives in the fire. 66 Fire brigade personnel, who valiantly fought the fire, also lost their lives. Since then, April 14 has been observed as Fire Services Day.

Among those present at the function were Sh. Dalip Sharma, Senior Deputy Mayor, Sh. Anup Gupta, Deputy Mayor, councilors and other Senior officers of Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh.

Commissioner orders to cancel roundabout MoU

Chandigarh, April 12:- Acting tough on the poor maintenance of roundabout throughout city, Ms. Anindita Mitra, IAS, Commissioner, Municipal Corporation Chandigarh today ordered to cancel the MoU for maintenance of roundabout between sector 4-5 & 9-8, maintained by M/s Bhejo Logistic Pvt. Ltd., #1093, Sector 39, Chandigarh.

The roundabout was allotted for maintenance to the agency for 2 years upto 12.06.2021 to 11.06.2023. After checking the maintenance of the roundabout and found unsatisfactory as per the terms and conditions of the MoU.

The Commissioner earlier orders the Superintending Engineer, Horticulture, MCC to submit maintenance report of all 30 roundabouts for which permission has been granted for maintenance by agencies alongwith pictorial evidences and maintenance records. The Horticulture Wing, MCC has started the inspection of all the roundabouts and putting up the cases to the Commissioner about the maintenance performance of the agencies. The non-performing agencies which are not maintaining roundabouts as per the norms are now facing immediate cancellation.

Commissioner visits Sector 41 to take stock of ongoing development works; listens to the problems of area residents

Chandigarh, April 11:- Ms. Anindita Mitra, IAS, Commissioner, Municipal Corporation Chandigarh today visited Sector 41 and village Buterla to take stock of ongoing development works alongwith to listen the issues of area residents.

The visit was started at 6.30 am in the morning at Community center Sector 41.  This was the forth ‘on foot’ visit of Commissioner alongwith all the team of concerned engineers and all the sectors will be covered by ‘on foot’ visits.

The Commissioner was accompanied by Sh. Hardeep Singh, area councilor, Joint Commissioner, chief engineer, all Superintending Engineers and concerned Executive Engineers, SDEs, Junior Engineers of MCC, office bearers of Resident Welfare Associations and local residents.

The visit was started from the Community Centre Sector 41, where the area councillor asked to Commissioner to expend the hall of Community centre. The Commissioner asked the concerned engineers of B&R to check and prepare proposal for the renovation of the community centre.

While taking serious note of the broken road berms, the Commissioner directed the concerned officers to get the repair work done immediately.

The Commissioner visited Fish Market and directed the Health Supervisor to clean the market and issue challans to the violators for not segregating the waste at household level. She asked to install the CCTV cameras at prime locations and integrate with the command control center and check the violators throw garbage in public places and issue the challans. She advised to area councillor to create awareness among the area residents for segregation of waste at household level.

The Commissioner asked the Chief Engineer to check and issue the challans to the violators for washing vehicles on road sides, which causes damage to the road berms and roads as well.

Mayor inaugurates Public Toilet Block Sector 42 C&D

Chandigarh, April 6:- Smt. Srbjit Kaur Dhillon, Mayor, Chandigarh has inaugurated a Public Toilet Block in Green belt at Sector 42 C&D, Chandigarh here today in the presence of Sh. Jasbir Singh, area councillor, office bearers of local Resident Welfare Association and prominent persons of the market and  officers of Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh.

On the occasion, Mayor Chandigarh said that the MCC is providing better services and facilities to the public in all the green belts and parks by raising the standards of public utilities in the city beautiful.

She said the QR codes will be placed at all the public toilets so that people can share their feedback about the availability of electricity, water supply, cleanliness of toilet premises and toilet seat while using the facility.

The visit was started at 6.30 am in the morning.The Commissioner was accompanied by Sh. Jasmanpreet Singh, area councilor, Chief Engineer, all Superintending Engineers and concerned Executive Engineers, SDEs, Junior Engineers of MCC, office bearers of Resident Welfare Associations and local residents.The visit was started from Mini Market, Sector 51-A, Chandigarh where the Mayor asked the serious note of the broken road berms, the directed the concerned officers to get the repair work done immediately. She asked the concerned engineers of horticulture wing for repair of footpaths in parks and pruning of trees wherever required. She asked the officers to repair the children play equipments and paint work be done on the play equipments on priority.


The Mayor asked the concerned officers to remove encroachments made by the shopkeepers and area residents on the road berm outside their shops & houses and asked the concerned officers to prepare report. She asked to maintain the surface of roads proper and repair the curb channels accordingly. She directed the public health engineers to repair all the road gullies before the re-carpeting work of the roads.

MCC recovers 28.51 lacs fraudulently withdrawn from saving bank account

Chandigarh, April 2:- The Municipal Corporation Chandigarh restored Rs. 28.51 lacs, which was fraudulently withdrawn from saving bank account in October last year.

According to the official information, an amount of Rs. 28.51 lacs was fraudulently withdrawn from cow fee savings bank account on dated 11th October, 2021 by presenting fake cheque No. 000091 by placing forged signatures of authorized signatories of Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh.

The Accounts Department, MCC lodged FIR on 18th October 2021 in police station sector, 17, Chandigarh to investigate the matter alongside the claim was lodged with RBI ombudsman.

Now, after six month the Bank of Baroda has restored said amount of Rs. 28.51 lacs from the date of fraud i.e. 11th October 2021 in Punjab National Bank Branch at MCC building premises.

Commissioner visits Sector 44 to take stock of ongoing development works; listens to the problems of area residents

Chandigarh, April 1:- Ms. Anindita Mitra, IAS, Commissioner, Municipal Corporation Chandigarh today visited Sector 44 to take stock of ongoing development works alongwith to see the problems of area residents.

The visit was started at 6.30 am in the morning. All the sectors of city will be covered on foot by the Commissioner alongwith all the team of concerned engineers and this was the 1st “On Foot” visit to Sector 44.

The Commissioner was accompanied by Sh. Jasmanpreet Singh, area councilor, chief engineer, all Superintending Engineers and concerned Executive Engineers, SDEs, Junior Engineers of MCC, office bearers of Resident Welfare Associations and local residents.

The visit was started from Community Centre, Sector 44, where the Commissioner asked the SE, B&R to prepare proper plan and estimates for the all over renovation of the community centre. She directed the SE, Horticulture to make a policy to beautify the green area, parks inside the community centres in to beautiful landscapes and be maintained on regular basis.

She further moved through sector 44-A, where she directed the chief engineer to write a letter to the engineering wing, Chandigarh Administration regarding cleaning of the open/reserve land infront of the community centre and proper leveling be done as per the level of road. She asked the public health engineers to issue notice to the govt. school authorities for water leakage outside the school premises.

While taking serious note of the broken road berms, the Commissioner directed the concerned officers to get the repair work done immediately. She asked the concerned engineers of horticulture wing for repair of footpaths in parks and pruning of trees wherever required. She asked the officers to repair the children play equipments and paint work be done on the play equipments on priority.

The Commissioner directed the horticulture engineers to issue notice for poor maintenance and not keeping the park clean to the concerned society/association, taken up for maintenance. She said that cancel the agreement with the society/association on unsatisfactory work and poor maintenance of the parks.

She also took serious view of the encroachments made by the area residents on the road berm outside their houses and asked the concerned officers to prepare report according to the permissions and policy and put up on priority. She asked to maintain the surface of roads proper and repair the curb channels accordingly. She directed the public health engineers to repair all the road gullies before the recarpetting work of the roads.

To stop the erosion of soil from outside the boundary walls in high side from road, the Commissioner asked the engineers to fix curb channels along the road berm to avoid the soil erosion and mud flow during rainy season. She asked the horticulture engineers to repair the sign boards of gardens and get repair of the open/broken junction boxes of street lights to avoid any kind of untoward accident.

She asked the public health engineers for proper covering of sluice valves near parks and take action to tie loose wires of telephone/other cables to avoid any incident. She asked the SE B&R for patchwork of internal roads wherever required immediately.

On the poor sanitation of some areas, the Commissioner directed the Health Supervisor to issue notice to the concerned firm for poor sanitation. She asked that the firm shall ensure proper cleaning of road berms outside parks and along the roads including cutting of grass and cleaning etc.

She asked the engineering wing to issue challans to the violators, who throw malba in the open spaces and along the road sides and constitute special teams of supervisory staff.

The area residents raised the issue of low pressure water supply at the 1st and 2nd floors of all houses at sector 44-A, for which the Commissioner directed the public health SE to check the problem and resolve it immediately.

Regarding C&D waste, the Commissioner asked the engineering wing to remove the C&D waste and take it to the C&D plant at industrial area for further processing. She asked that the paver blocks be repaired wherever paved areas have been uprooted or are uneven along the market areas.

She asked the concerned officers to explore possibilities to develop parking site near verka booth in sector 44-D after consulting local area residents. She asked the engineers to plan issuing instant challans to the violators and their immediate disposal by introducing pos machines.
