The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has extended the last date of submission of online Fresh admission of all Masters, Bachelor & Diplomas programmes up to 22nd November, 2021 for the July-2021 session. This extension of last date shall not apply to Certificate and Semester-based programmes, i.e., MP, MPB, PGDMM, PGDFM, PGDHRM, PGDOM, PGDFMP, DBPOFA, PGDIS, MCA, BCA, and all Certificate and Awareness programmes of 6 months duration or less. Details of the IGNOU academic programmes for the July, 2021 session can be accessed from the link https://ignouadmission.samarth.edu.in/. The prospective learners can apply for Masters/Bachelor/Diploma programmes of the University on the official website, informed The Senior Regional Director of IGNOU Regional centre Chandigarh Dr. A. K. Dimri. Last date of submission of ‘online’ admission form for the July session was earlier fixed for November, 12.
For all those candidates, who have been planning to get admission in any of the IGNOU courses can apply for the same online. Firstly the candidate has to register themselves (if not registered) on the official website i.e https://ignouadmission.samarth.edu.in/. Whereas those who have already registered can simply login with the id- password and fill up the application form for the admission in the July session at Indira Gandhi National Open University for 2021. On the basis of significant contributions and achievements in the field of Indian Orchidology, Prof Prromila Pathak, Chairperson, Botany Department, Panjab University Chandigarh has been honoured with an orchid hybrid namely, Phalaenopsis Promila Pathak White on her name which has been registered at Royal Horticultural Society, London by an Indian Orchidologist, Dr Raj Kumar Kishor, MD, Kwaklei & Khonggunmelei Orchids Pvt. Ltd., Imphal Manipur, India.
Prof Pathak is instrumental in developing strategies for sustainable development of orchids. Besides guiding many research students, she has handled various research projects and imparted training in scientific development and cultivation of orchids to a large number of students and enthusiasts.
Known for her selfless and dedicated commitment and significant contributions to scientific development and promotion of Indian orchids; she has been actively pursuing researches for the past over 35 years in Diversity, Developmental biology, Micropropagation, Restoration Ecology and Conservation of floriculturally and medicinally important Indian orchids.
Orchids with nearly 28,237 species represent a group of botanically interesting and commercially significant plants which have made a distinct place among the plants with economic value by virtue of their various characteristics; beautiful flowers with long retention of cut flowers; as a source of flavoring and food; and due to their medicinal value. Because of their morphological variability and uniqueness in beauty decked with sweet fragrances, they are undoubtedly the ornamental elite in floriculture all over the world.
These are highly priced in the international florist trade due to their intricately designed spectacular flowers with brilliant colours, delightful appearance, myriad sizes, shapes, forms and long lasting qualities and account for multimillion-dollar cut flowers industry in many countries including Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, and USA.
In India, 1,256 species or taxa of orchids belong to 155 genera amongst which 388 species are endemic. Ashtavarga (group of eight medicinal plants) is vital part of Ayurvedic formulations like Chywanprasha and four plants i.e., Habenaria intermedia (Ridhi), H. acuminata (Vridhi), Malaxis acuminata (Rishbhaka), and M. muscifera (Jeevak) are members of family Orchidaceae.
These plants are widely used as raw drugs in the Ayurvedic medicines and also used as traditional medicine to cure a variety of human ailments like fever, diabetes, rheumatism, malignant ulcer, nervous disorders, tuberculosis, and uterine disorders etc., by local people, in different areas. These properties are because of the presence of phytochemical constituents such as alkaloids, flavonoids, terpenoids, phenols etc.

Chandigarh, November 13:- Sh. Banwarilal Purohit, Hon’ble Governor, Punjab and Administrator, Chandigarh today laid the foundation stone of 24×7 water supply project at Manimajra in the presence of Smt. Kirron Kher, MP-Chandigarh (Virtually).
While addressing the gathering, the Governor said that the vision of Municipal Corporation is to make and maintain the city beautiful in livability, sustainability, equality and innovation parameters along with providing the best urban experience to its residents. I have noticed that the residents of Chandigarh are quite aware and play a vital role in shaping and defining the vision and targets for the city.
He said that the citizens of Manimajra will highly benefit from this 24×7 Water Supply Project as continuous water supply system will provide better water quality and households will get better pressure of water sufficient to fill tanks up to third storey so pumping costs will also decrease.
He appreciated the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation to work so active and committed for taking various steps to improve the basic upkeep besides ensuring the availability of civic amenities in each sector.
The Governor said that public participation is must in understanding the issues, recognizing the areas requiring improvement and evolving strategies for future planning and the Municipal Corporation always seeks and considers public opinion, suggestive measures from the citizens and tries to implement their ideas in best possible manner.
He congratulated the Mayor and councilors, the Commissioner and her team of officers for taking up these people centric steps in the larger public interest and wish them all success in future endeavors. The Governor asked the concerned officers of Chandigarh Administration and Municipal Corporation Chandigarh to speed up the work of this project and complete this in stipulated time frame.
Smt. Kirron Kher, Member Parliament, UT, Chandigarh said that as public representatives the councillors are entrusted with a bigger role and responsibility by the residents of Chandigarh and they are doing justice with that by providing better infrastructure and improving the basic amenities.
She said that in 2014, she raised the concern over the release additional water supply line from Bhakhra main line in the parliament and after crossing many hurdles, Chandigarh got the additional water supply line. She said with this pilot project started in Manimjara, the residents will get their long pending demand fulfilled.
Sh. Ravi Kant Sharma, Mayor said that the primary goal of the project is switching from intermittent supply to 24×7 continuous pressurized supply system citing health, hygiene and water saving benefits.
The Mayor said that the major components to be carried out in this project are including new Water Works to improve water pressures in the area. He said that this Project will involve new water works with 4 Million Gallon of additional storage, 13700 smart meters, 20 km of new lines, Automated monitoring of system through SCADA. All 37 Tubewells will be phased out 100% water supply will be shifted to surface water.
Speaking on the occasion, Sh. Dharam Pal, IAS, Adviser to the Administrator, Chandigarh highlighted other crucial projects being carried out by Chandigarh Smart City Limited such as the ‘Im Chandigarh (I am Chandigarh)’ app, Integrated Command & Control center (ICCC) and Public Bike Sharing (PBS) system.
He said that Smart city mission Launched by Government of India has 35 projects funded by Smart cities mission. Chandigarh has almost 90 percent of Projects that benefit city as a whole. 24×7 water supplies is being carried out in Manimajra at Rs 162 crores including cost of 15 years Operation &Maintenance, the work is expected to be completed by Aug 2023.
Earlier, the area councilor Sh. Jagtar Singh Jagga thanked all the dignitaries and local residents for being part of this big project for Manimajra. He said that with this project the residents of Manimajra will get upgraded water supply and better quality of water.

National Service Scheme in collaboration with the Centre for Medical Physics organized special lecture on “Malaria and Dengue” by Dr. Rupinder Kaur, CMO, Panjab University.
She explained origin and about Malaria and Dengue in a simple way. She also appraised that in some patients, it can cause serious complications like hemorrhagic fever, which can damage the lymph and blood vessels and can cause high fever and circulatory system failure. It is important to stay under medical supervision during the course of the disease.
Dr. Vivek Kumar, Chairperson, CMP gave vote of thanks and inspired students for tomorrow’s rally for awareness about vector borne diseases in the Panjab University Campus. NSS Programm Officer Dr. Simran Preet (Biophysics) was also present during the event.

Chandigarh, November 11:-The Finance & Contract Committee approved to provide Tertiary Treated Network to supply T.T. water for various parks adjoining CHB flats in Sector 63-A, Chandigarh. Accordingly, the members passed to lay HDPE pipe lines of size 110mm o/d and 160 mm o/d to supply T.T. water to various parks, Construction of brick masonry chambers, P&F of Hydrant Haudi, CI Sluice Valve 100mm & 150mm Irrigation Hydrants etc at an estimated cost of Rs. 44.13 lacs .
This was decided in a meeting of F&CC held here today under the chairmanship of Sh. Ravi Kant Sharma, Mayor and attended by Ms. Anindita Mitra, IAS, Commissioner and other members of committee namely Sh. Anil Kumar Dubey, Sh. Rajesh Kumar, Sh. Satish Kumar, Sh. Vinod Aggarwal, Smt. Sunita Dhawan, Councilors and Smt. Asha Jaswal, Councillor also attend the meeting as special invitee and other concerned officers of MCC were also present.
The F&CC discussed and approved various important agenda items:-
• Providing online UPS for New Deluxe building, M.C., Chandigarh at an estimated cost of Rs. 19.36 lacs.
• Extension of contract for the supply of 16 nos. security Guards and 03 supervisors at Dumping Ground and 04 nos. additional Security Guards at Dumping Ground, Garbage Processing Plant and Motor Garage through M/s Shine & Sind Security Solution Pvt. Ltd.
• The work of “Boring & Installation of 01 No. 12”x8” (304.80 x 203.20MM) I/D deep bore tubewell in lieu of low discharge/abandoned tubewell No. RN-58 at Daria, U.T. Chandigarh (with percussion-cum-reverse rotary drilling rig method of latest technology) at an estimated cost of Rs. 29.25 lacs.
• Boring & Installation of 01 No. 12”x8” (304.80 x 203.20MM) I/D deep bore tubewell in lieu of low discharge/abandoned tubewell No. 3 at Mauli Jagran, U.T. Chandigarh (with percussion-cum-reverse rotary drilling rig method of latest technology) at an estimated cost of Rs. 29.29 lacs.
• The work of “Reconstruction of 2 No. Public Toilets Block in Sector 22-A (Ladies & Gents Opposite Parade Ground) & 22 B (Opposite Bus Stand), Chandigarh after demolition the old toilets” at an estimated cost of Rs. 33.43 lacs.

During the occasion office bearers of IOCL and senior officers and officials of MCC were also present. Besides cutting cake on the occasion, the Commissioner unleashed colorful balloons into the sky.
The Commissioner asked the concerned officers to chalk out a plan to make it a one stop shop exploring the possibilities of CNG station, eateries besides providing public facilities including lounge and washrooms etc.
She said that beneficiary schemes be ensured to the employees deployed at the fuel station besides their wages according to DC rates.

The decision is after considering the request of 0/0 DPI (Colleges) Punjab.
It is further informed that late admission forms be sent to this office as per norms and there is no change in the dates of submission of Registration Returns and Examination Forms.
