Chandigarh, February 24:- A meeting of Finance & Contract Committee, Municipal Corporation Chandigarh was held here today under the chairmanship of Smt. Sarbjit Kaur Dhillon and attended by Sh. Mahesinder Singh Sidhu, Sh. Saurabh Joshi, Sh. Jasbir Singh, Smt. Gurbax Rawat, Smt. Taruna Mehta and other senior officers of MCC were present during the meeting.

The members of committee discussed various important agenda items in detail and accorded approval for the following:

1. Purchase of 06 Nos. Inflatable Emergency Lighting Towers for Fire and Rescue Services, Municipal Corporation Chandigarh at an estimated cost of Rs. 13.71 lacs.

2. 50% Concession of 5 days ground rent in respect of Circus Ground Sector 17, Chandigarh.

3. Rough Cost estimate replacement of old/broken 6” (160mm) PVC Pipe line with 6” (160 mm) HDPE pipe in parks of Sector 46-A&B, C&D Chandigarh under the SDE MCPH Divn. No. 19 at an estimated cost of Rs.25.97 lacs.

MCC to organize 50th Rose Festival from 25th to 27th February

Chandigarh, February 24:-The 50^th Rose Festival shall open to a majestic opening on February 25^thFebruary amidst blooming roses in Rose Garden Sector 16. For the 50^th Golden Jubilee edition of the three day mega event, the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh has teamed up for making all out preparations to adorn the beautiful Rose Garden and the Leisure valley, in order to host the annual event and make it a big one festival in the city and therefore three high entertainment musical evenings are being arranged for Public and visitors during this weekend.

While sharing the details of the 50^th edition of Rose Festival, Mrs. Sarbjit Kaur Dhillon, Mayor, Chandigarh after taking round in the Rose Garden in the evening to see the final preparation, said that the Rose Festival in Chandigarh will commence from 25^th February and will continue consecutively for three days upto 27^th February, 2022.

The Mayor said that the most awaited Rose Festival will get a colourful boost on 25^th February, Friday, wherein the Governor, Punjab and Administrator, UT, Chandigarh, Sh. Banwarilal Purohit will inaugurate the festival at the Zakir Rose Garden amidst immense enthusiasm. The lively ceremony will commence with the beating of drums, releasing of balloons, playing of bands, folk dance performances displayed by different states, showcasing of regional art forms.

She said that the event will be inaugurated on this Friday, amidst beautiful flower decoration at Rose Garden with thousands of visitors thronging to be a part of this festivity. Since, Rose Festival is an event dipped in entertainment and topped up with glamour quotient, thereby three special cultural evenings will be organized on all three days.

She said that due to COVID protocol, this time no competitions will be organized. Only flower arrangements and other decorations will be showcased. Regular entertaining events by prominent artists from different parts of the country on each day, the colourful festival is bound to take people to an enviable world of excitement and thrill never seen before in Chandigarh.

दिनांक 24.2.2022 को चण्डीगढ के टैगोर थियेटर में आयोजित एक साहित्यिक सम्मान समारोह में हरियाणा प्रदेश के साहित्यकारों को स्वयं मुख्यमन्त्री श्री मनोहर लाल ने सम्मानित किया। इस अवसर पर संस्कृत-जगत् के प्रसिद्ध कवि और लेखक, पंजाब विश्वविद्यालय के संस्कृत विभाग के आचार्य तथा अध्यक्ष प्रो. वी.के. अलंकारको वर्ष 2020 के लिए महर्षि वाल्मीकि सम्मान प्रदान किया गया है। प्रो. अलंकार विगत 32 वर्षों से पंजाब विश्वविद्यालय में संस्कृत सम्बन्धी लेखन में व्यस्त हैं। अनेक संस्कृत काव्य और वेद, व्याकरण, दर्शन सम्बन्धी ग्रन्थ प्रो. अलंकार ने साहित्यजगत् को दिए हैं। इससे पहले प्रो. अलंकार कुरुक्षेत्र विश्वविद्यालय में कार्यरत थे। इससे पूर्व भी हरियाणा संस्कृत अकादमी प्रो. अलंकार को सम्मानित कर चुकी है। हरियाणा संस्कृत अकादमी के निदेशक डॉ. दिनेश शास्त्री जहाँ संस्कृत के विकास के लिए कार्य कर रहे हैं, वहीं संस्कृत आचार्यों के सम्मान के लिए भी अनेक प्रकल्पों की खोज में रहते हैं। पंजाब विश्वविद्यालय के लिए यह गर्व का विषय है कि इस साहित्यिक पर्व पर विश्वविद्यालय के ही तीन अन्य विद्वान् प्रो. जगदीश प्रसाद सेमवाल (पूर्व अध्यक्ष, साधु आश्रम होश्यारपुर), संस्कृत विभाग के पूर्व प्रोफेसर डॉ. वेद प्रकाश उपाध्याय तथा डॉ. विक्रम कुमार को भी हरियाणा संस्कृत अकादमी द्वारा सम्मान प्रदान किया गया है।

Sophisticated Analytical Instrumentation Laboratory (SAIF), Panjab University Chandigarh launched the prestigious DST-STUTI Program on Tuesday, February 22, 2022. Prof. Ganga Ram Chaudhary, Coordinator STUTI Program PU commenced the function with his welcome address where he told that this program comprises of funding of 2.5 crores and is aimed to build human resources and their capacity by providing open access to science and technology infrastructure. Under this program, 14 Awareness Programs for Class XI-XII Science students are being organized during science week i.e. during February 22-28, 2022 to celebrate AZADI KA AMRIT MAHOTSAV. As the program will work on a hub and spoke model. As a hub Panjab University will be organizing 3 Awareness Programs i.e. on 22, 23 and 28^th February, 2022 and 11 Awareness Programs will be organized by spokes of STUTI Program PU including GNDU Amritsar, PAU Ludhiana, NIT Srinagar, University of Kashmir, HPU MLSM College Sundernagar, GJUST Hisar, DCRUST Murthal, Punjabi university DAV college Abohar, IFS College of Pharmacy Moga, Shoolini University Solan, INST Mohali etc. More than 1500 students from various schools will participate in STUTI awareness program of Panjab University Hub and spokes during science week.

On February 22, 2022, the event was inaugurated by Prof. Raj Kumar, VC, PU where he also launched STUTI Web Portal. Prof. Raj Kumar, VC, PU encouraged the students to explore the opportunities they are getting to get aware about the recent developments in science and technology through the lab visits to state-of-the-art instrumentation facilities. Prof. R.K. Sinha, VC, Gautam Budhha University, Greater Noida was present as Chief guest of the event who delivered a plenary address on ‘Popularization of Science and technology’. Prof. RK Sinha, in his address, talked about the ever-evolving aspect of science and motivated the student to keep up their inquisitiveness even in the simplest of facts while studying from text books. In the first Awareness Program, 100 students of XI and XII science stream from Sri Guru Gobind Singh Sr. Sec. School, Sector 35 B, Chandigarh participated in various activities like quizzes, declamation, poster making competition etc. A popular lecture on ‘Fascinating facts of chemistry’ was delivered by Prof. KK Bhasin, NASI-Platinum Jubilee fellow and Emeritus Professor, PU. Prof. Ramesh Sharma, Program Coordinator Awareness Program, congratulated the principal, Mrs. Parminder Jit Mann, the staff and students of the Sri Guru Gobind Singh Sr. Sec. School for attending the Awareness Program. The event was enthusiastically attended by the students who were highly mesmerize motivated to interact with senior scientist, Prof. KK Bhasin and learn about the high end research facilities during the lab tours. Participants and winners of Quiz and Poster competition were awarded with prizes and certificates. On the same day, STUTI team also visited Ankur School, Sector 14 to interact with students for popularization and promotion of science and technology.

ITI तथा अन्य प्रशिक्षण संस्थानों के प्रशिक्षुओं को उच्च शिक्षा का अवसर प्रदान करने के लिए इग्नू तथा कौशल विकास एवं उद्यमिता विकास मंत्रालय में करार

इग्नू तथा कौशल विकास एवं उद्यमिता विकास मंत्रालय, भारत सरकार द्वारा एक MOU पर हस्ताक्षर किए गए इस MOU का उद्देश्य व्यवसायिक शिक्षा के प्रशिक्षुओं को उच्च शिक्षा के साथ जोड़ने के लिए

राष्ट्रीय कौशल प्रशिक्षण संस्थान, ITI’s, प्रधानमंत्री कौशल विकास केंद्रों तथा जन शिक्षण संस्थानों में प्रशिक्षण प्राप्त कर रहे प्रशिक्षुओं को उच्च शिक्षा के लिए रास्ता प्रदान करना है। इस MOU के तहत 32 राष्ट्रीय कौशल प्रशिक्षण संस्थान, 3000 से अधिक ITI, 500 प्रधानमंत्री कौशल विकास केंद्र तथा 300 जन शिक्षण संस्थाओं को इग्नू से जोड़ा जाएगा तथा यह सब केंद्र इग्नू के पंजीकरण केंद्र, परीक्षा केंद्र तथा प्रशिक्षण केंद्र के लिए वर्क सेंटर बनेंगे। इन प्रशिक्षुओं के लिए यह एक सुनहरा अवसर होगा कि वह इग्नू की त्रि-वर्षीय डिग्री प्रोग्राम से उच्च शिक्षा प्राप्त कर सकेंगे इस कार्य को सुचारू रूप से चलाने के लिए एक प्रोजेक्ट संचालन कमेटी का गठन किया जाएगा जिसमें कौशल विकास एवं उद्यमिता मंत्रालय और इग्नू के प्रतिनिधि होंगे जो इन गतिविधियों का समय – समय पर अवलोकन करेंगे। यह MOU प्रारंभ में 10 वर्षों के लिए होगा तथा दोनों की सहमति से इसे आगे भी बढ़ाया जाएगा। यह MOU राष्ट्रीय शिक्षा नीति 2020 के शाश्वत विकास उद्देश्य- 4.4 को ध्यान में रखकर बनाया गया है जिसका उद्देश्य देश में 2035 तक नामांकन अनुपात को 50% करना है।

श्री राजेश अग्रवाल सचिव, भारत सरकार ने इस प्रयास की सराहना की तथा कहा कि यह MOU तुरंत प्रभाव से लागू किया जाएगा। प्रारंभ में 32 राष्ट्रीय कौशल प्रशिक्षण संस्थान को इग्नू का केंद्र बनाया जाएगा। उन्होंने आगे कहा कि विदेशी भाषा की ट्रेनिंग, स्वास्थ्य से संबंधित कौशल शिक्षा, फैशन डिजाइनिंग तथा कुछ अन्य कार्यक्रम भी इस पार्टनरशिप के तहत जोड़े जाएंगे।

इग्नू के कुलपति प्रोफेसर नागेश्वर राव ने कौशल विकास एवं उद्यमिता विकास मंत्रालय के सचिव के इन प्रयासों के लिए धन्यवाद दिया तथा विश्वास दिलाया कि इग्नू अपने 21 विद्यापीठ तथा 56 क्षेत्रीय केंद्रों के माध्यम से इन कार्यक्रमों को क्रियान्वयन करके सफल बनाएगा। इस मौके पर प्रोफेसर आर पी दास PVC, प्रोफेसर सत्यकाम PVC, प्रोफेसर उमा कांजीलाल PVC, प्रोफेसर सुमित्रा कुकरेती PVC, श्रीमती अनुराधा वेमुरी संयुक्त सचिव MSDE, डॉक्टर बी के राव निदेशक MSDE तथा आर के गुप्ता निदेशक MSDE ने भी अपने विचार रखे। MOU में डॉक्टर बी के राव निदेशक MSDE तथा डॉ वी बी नेगी रजिस्ट्रार इग्नू ने हस्ताक्षर किए। कार्यक्रम का संचालन डॉक्टर श्रीकांत महापात्रा निदेशक क्षेत्रीय सेवा प्रभाग इग्नू ने किया।

Department of Zoology, Panjab University (PU) Chandigarh today organized a webinar on “Animal Genetic Resources of India”.

In his address, Director, ICAR-NBAGR, Karnal Dr. B.P. Mishra emphasized the need to conserve India’s mega biodiversity and protect animal genetic resources to meet the increasing food demands and to cater new disease challenges. He spotlighted how climate change is affecting our animal genetic resources and India’s preparedness to stand for it.

Dr. Mishra underpinned the activities of ICAR-NBAGR, Karnal to fulfill the national and international commitments.

The session was chaired by former Vice Chancellor Prof. R.C. Sobti. The Chairman, Department of Zoology Dr. Y.K. Rawal welcomed the guests. The session was concluded with vote of thanks by Dr. Ravneet.

National Pharmacy Teachers Training Programme Begins at PU

National Pharmacy Teachers Training Programme started at Panjab University (PU) today.

The one-week web faculty training school under the initiative of UGC Networking Resource Centre (UGC-NRC), on “New Era Technologies in Formulation Design Space” is being hosted via CiscoWebEx at the University Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences (UIPS.

As many as 68 selected pharma faculty and researchers from various Colleges/Universities of 21 different states of India and 1 from abroad are participating in the course.The training school intends to apprise and update the young participants among faculty and researchers on multiple forums of novel drug delivery design, development, and real time translation to plug the bench to bedside/ lab to clinic gap.

Full Professor, University of Santiago de Compostela (USC), SPAIN, Professor Maria José Alonsoinaugurated the function and delivered the key note address on “Delivery of Proteins and RNA Molecules using Nanotechnology.” She gave an overview about the work being done in her laboratory on oral ocular nasal and dermal delivery of biomolecules.

Prof. Alonso is a highly accomplished and recognised among the top 10 researchers in the World in Pharmacology (Times Higher Education international ranking, 2010) and appeared on ‘The Power List’ of most influential researchers in field of Biopharmaceuticals (The Medicine Maker, 2020-21). She has h-index of 98 and was Vice-Rector of Research and Innovation of the USC and Visiting Scientist at MIT, Cambridge, US; Univ of Angers, France; Univ of Paris XI, France and is known for her innovative industrial and entrepreneurial expertise.

Earlier, the Chairperson, UIPS and Program Coordinator, UGC-NRC and the Coordinator of the Course,Professor Indu Pal Kaur welcomed the participants and the Chief Guest, and briefed them about the achievements of UIPS and UGC-NRC programs. She also summarized about the course content to the participants. Dr Vandita Kakkar is the Joint Course Coordinator who conducted the proceedings of the event.

The day started with an ice breaking session followed by a workshop on the most sought after topic and as per the UGC-NRC concern on “How to write research proposal, research paper and related ethical issues?” By Professor Kanwaljit Chopra, Professor & Head, Pharmacology & Former Chairperson, UIPS, & Professor Anil Kumar, Professor of Pharmacology, UIPS.

The post-tea session covered an informative recorded talk by Professor Tejal A Desai, Chair & Deborah Cowan Endowed Professor, Department of Bioengineering & Therapeutic Sciences, Schools of Pharmacy and Medicine, University of California, San Francisco (UCSF); and Professor in Residence, Department of Bioengineering, UC Berkeley (UCB), USA on “Using Micro and Nanostructured Materials to Modulate the Tissue Microenvironment”.

UIPS is the first and the only Pharmacy Institute in the country selected by MHRD for creating UGC Networking Resource Centre to promote and foster research and academics in the field of Pharmaceutical Sciences by training young pharma trainers, selected across the nation.

Women Development Cell in collaboration with Legal Aid Society and NSS, UILS, Panjab University conducted a webinar to commemorate the Indian Army Day on 15 th January 2022. The theme for the webinar is “The Fierce Bravery: Women and their role in the Indian Army”.

The webinar was organized under the chief patronage of Prof. Raj Kumar (Vice, Chancellor, PU) and hosted by Dr. Rajinder Kaur (Director, UILS, PU). The chief guest for the webinar was rtd. Lt. Col. NVN Rao gave her valuable insights regarding women and the Indian Army.

The webinar began at 11 AM with a formal welcome to guest of the day, by Dr. Karan Jawanda, teacher coordinator of legal aid Society. After her welcome, a creative wing of women Development Cell presented a video giving a heartfelt tribute to soldiers who died while protecting Mother India. The day was celebrated to honor those soldiers who made selfless sacrifices and showed valor on the war front.

The Guest gave valuable insights on how the Indian Army is one of the finest disciplines in the world. The one who teaches us to not only carry our uniform everywhere but take pride in wearing it. The ones who are always there for our safety, smiles, and our sustainability.

Let. Col even talk about career opportunities for women in Army, especially after law graduation.

She gave valuable information from her past experience, how she managed her personal and professional life.

Faculty Development Program on Integration Theory: Mathematical Analysis Concludes

A week-long Faculty Development Program (FDP) on Integration Theory: Mathematical Analysis was organized by the Department of Mathematics and HRDC, P. U. Chandigarh during January 4-10, 2022. The basic objective of this program was to give exposure to the faculty of colleges and universities on Integration Theory and its related areas of Mathematics.

The FDP started with an inaugural talk on the Evolution of Integration Theory by Professor Inder K. Rana (Retd. IIT Bombay). He gave two talks in which he gave a glimpse of the historical development of the subject focusing on the contributions of Pythagoras, Archimedes, Eudoxes, Riemann, and Lebesgue. Prof Amin Sofi, NBHM Professor at Jammu and Kashmir Institute of Mathematical Sciences, gave talks on Axiom of Choice and various related paradoxes, along with its significance in rigor. Professor S. Pirzada, Head, Department of Mathematics, Kashmir University presented a Tour of Analysis through Graph Theory; signifying unity among different branches of Mathematics and Computer Science.

The FDP had 30 participants from 13 states of India from Jammu and Kashmir in the North to Tamil Nadu in the South and from Assam in the East to Maharashtra in the West. There were 10 resource persons from six different institutes of National Repute, including IIT Bombay, IISER Mohali and IIT Ropar. Prof. Narsimhulu Yakkala, Honorary Director, HRDC, University of Hyderabad., Professor BS Rajput, former Vice-Chancellor, Professor of Physics in Kumaon University and Chairman U.P.State Council for Higher Education Lucknow, were prominent among them. There were separate discussion sessions to ponder upon tricks of the trade, current trends, and professional opportunities; particularly for young researchers.
