चंडीगढ़ 1 दिसंबर कुरुक्षेत्र विकास बोर्ड के तत्वावधान में अंतर्राष्ट्रीय गीता महोत्सव 2024 के शुभ अवसर पर एक विशेष प्रतियोगिता “मेरा प्रिय गीता श्लोक” का आयोजन किया जा रहा है। यह प्रतियोगिता उन लोगों के लिए एक शानदार अवसर है जो भगवद गीता के श्लोकों से प्रेरित होकर अपने जीवन में सकारात्मक परिवर्तन का अनुभव कर चुके हैं। इस अनूठी पहल के माध्यम से प्रतिभागी न केवल अपने अनुभवों को साझा कर सकेंगे, बल्कि भगवद गीता के शाश्वत ज्ञान को जन-जन तक पहुंचाने में भी योगदान देंगे।

उपायुक्त मोनिका गुप्ता ने बताया कि प्रतियोगिता का मुख्य उद्देश्य भगवद गीता के महान संदेश को विश्वभर में फैलाना और उन लोगों की कहानियों को उजागर करना है, जिन्होंने गीता के श्लोकों से मार्गदर्शन प्राप्त किया है। इस आयोजन के तहत प्रतिभागियों को अपने प्रिय गीता श्लोक के बारे में एक छोटा वीडियो तैयार करना है, जिसमें वह यह बताएंगे कि यह श्लोक उनके जीवन में किस प्रकार से प्रेरणा का स्रोत बना। ये वीडियो माई फेवरेट श्लोक इन गीता नामक यूट्यूब चैनल पर अपलोड किए जाएंगे, जहां इन्हें लाखों दर्शक देख सकेंगे।

उपायुक्त ने बताया कि इस प्रतियोगिता में भाग लेने के लिए वीडियो की अधिकतम अवधि 40 सेकंड रखी गई है। प्रतिभागियों को वीडियो के साथ टाइटल, अपना नाम, फोन नंबर और पता भेजना होगा। सभी प्रविष्टियां 11 दिसंबर 2024, शाम 5:00 बजे तक स्वीकार की जाएंगी। वीडियो को ईमेल के माध्यम से [email protected] पर भेजा जा सकता है। प्रतियोगिता में विजेता का चयन सबसे अधिक देखे जाने वाले वीडियो के आधार पर किया जाएगा। इस विजेता को नकद पुरस्कार देकर सम्मानित किया जाएगा।

भगवद गीता न केवल भारत का आध्यात्मिक ग्रंथ है, बल्कि यह जीवन के हर पहलू के लिए गहन मार्गदर्शन प्रदान करता है। ‘मेरा प्रिय गीता श्लोक’ प्रतियोगिता के माध्यम से कुरुक्षेत्र विकास बोर्ड इस शाश्वत ग्रंथ के ज्ञान को एक नई ऊंचाई पर ले जाने का प्रयास कर रहा है। यह पहल उन लाखों लोगों के लिए प्रेरणा का स्रोत बनेगी जो गीता के ज्ञान से अपने जीवन को सार्थक बनाना चाहते हैं।

उन्होंने बताया कि यदि आपके जीवन में भगवद गीता के किसी श्लोक ने बदलाव लाया है, तो यह प्रतियोगिता आपके लिए है। अपनी कहानी साझा करें, अपने अनुभव को दुनिया के साथ बांटें और भगवद गीता के अनमोल संदेश को अधिक से अधिक लोगों तक पहुंचाने में भागीदार बनें। कुरुक्षेत्र विकास बोर्ड के इस अनूठे प्रयास में सहभागी बनकर आप न केवल अपनी बात कहेंगे, बल्कि गीता के ज्ञान को वैश्विक मंच पर प्रस्तुत करने का गौरव भी प्राप्त करेंगे।
उपायुक्त ने बताया कि 9 से 11 दिसंबर तक राजकीय महिला महाविद्यालय सेक्टर 14 में जिला स्तरीय गीता जयंती समारोह का आयोजन किया जाएगा। इसमें कई तरह की गतिविधियां आयोजित की जाएंगी।

PU Hosts National Seminars to Explore Humanities in the Age of AI

Chandigarh, December 1, 2024 – The Department of English and Cultural Studies at Panjab University hosted two national seminars focusing on the challenges and transformations facing the humanities in an era of technological advancement, particularly in the context of Artificial Intelligence. 

 The seminars titled “Reinventing Humanities: Possibilities and Prospects in the Face of Crisis” and “Transitions in Folklore and Folk Studies” were aimed to foster interdisciplinary dialogue and explore innovative possibilities for the humanities in addressing societal changes.

 The seminars featured eminent speakers, including Prof. Parmod Kumar from Indira Gandhi National Open University, Delhi, who delivered the keynote address. Prof. Harjinder Singh Laltu, a senior scientist from IIIT Hyderabad presented the valedictory address. 

 During the three days, PU scholars presented over 60 research papers, offering diverse perspectives on the evolving role of the humanities and cultural studies. 

 On the final day, a focused discussion on Folk Studies was led by Prof. Raj Kumar from Delhi University and Prof. Devender Kumar from Banaras Hindu University. The session engaged more than 50 scholars from across the country, fostering dialogue on traditional and cultural studies in contemporary academia. 

 Dr. Sudhir Mehra from the Department of English and Cultural Studies coordinated the seminars, which saw participation from faculty and scholars across disciplines, including Philosophy, Sociology, Women’s Studies, Hindi, Urdu, and Indian Theatre. Esteemed professors such as Prof. Akshaya Kumar, Prof. Deepti Gupta, Prof. Abhik Ghosh, and Dr. Surbhi Goel chaired the keynote and valedictory sessions.

 A team of 20 scholars, led by Arunjot Kaur, Siddharth Singh, Nivedita, and Vikas Chaudhary, ensured the seamless execution of the seminars, which were highly praised for their academic rigor and organizational excellence.

*Chandigarh, November 30:-* A high-level review meeting was convened today under the chairmanship of Sh. M. Venkatesan, Chairman of the National Commission of Safai Karamcharis, to address the pressing concerns of various Safaikaramcharis unions in Chandigarh.

The meeting was attended by Sh. Amit Kumar, IAS, Commissioner, Municipal Corporation Chandigarh, Joint Commissioner, Chief Engineer and other key officials, demonstrating the Municipal Corporation’s commitment to resolving the issues faced by the sanitation workforce.

During the meeting, Chairman Sh. M. Venkatesan engaged in a constructive dialogue with representatives from the unions, attentively listening to their grievances regarding working conditions, equipment, and overall welfare. The meeting proved highly productive, with most issues being resolved on the spot, and a clear roadmap was laid out for addressing the remaining concerns. The Chairman’s direct interaction with the union representatives helped to build trust and confidence among the Safaikaramcharie community.

The meeting concluded with a renewed commitment from both the Municipal Corporation and contractors to improve working conditions, provide better equipment, and ensure that all complaints receive due attention moving forward. Chairman M. Venkatesan reiterated the importance of supporting Safaikaramcharies, who play a vital role in maintaining the city’s sanitation and hygiene.

The Municipal Corporation will continue to monitor the situation closely and ensure that any remaining issues are swiftly resolved. The Chairman also emphasized the need for regular review meetings to ensure that the concerns of the Safaikaramcharie community are addressed in a timely and effective manner.

PU Laws Department Celebrates National Law Day

The Department of Laws, Panjab University commemorated National Law Day today, an annual event celebrating the adoption of the Indian Constitution on 26th November 1949. This event reflects on the principles and values enshrined in the Constitution, serving as a moment to reaffirm our commitment to its ideals. 

The occasion was graced by an esteemed panel of legal luminaries. Hon’ble Mr. Justice Dinesh Maheshwari, former Judge, Supreme Court of India, delivered the keynote address as the Guest Speaker, offering profound insights into the enduring relevance of constitutional values in modern India. 

The event was further enriched by the presence of two Guests of Honour, Hon’ble Mr. Justice Arijit Pasayat, former Judge, Supreme Court of India, and Hon’ble Mr. Justice Ajay Kumar Mittal, former Chief Justice, Madhya Pradesh High Court. Both dignitaries shared their experiences and perspectives on safeguarding constitutional principles and the role of legal professionals in upholding justice. 

Faculty members, students, and legal professionals attended the event, reflecting the commitment of the academic community to understanding and upholding the Constitution. The celebration concluded with a vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to the distinguished guests for their invaluable contributions.

MCC employees took pledge during the 75th Constitution Day

Chandigarh, November 26: The Municipal Corporation Chandigarh commemorated the 75th Constitution Day with a pledge ceremony today at the MCC building, Sector 17, Chandigarh. Employees of the corporation read the Preamble to the Constitution, reaffirming their dedication to the values of justice, liberty, equality, and fraternity.

On the occasion, MC Commissioner Sh.Amit Kumar, IAS  along with other officials, participated in the Pledge Ceremony through video conferencing led by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA), with participation from all states and UTs.

14th Annual International CESI Conference concludes at PU

The 14th Annual International CESI Conference concluded at Panjab University, today.

The 14th Comparative Education Society of India (CESI) Annual International Conference was held from November 22 to 24, 2024. CESI is a constituent body of the World Council of Comparative Education Societies. The PU’s Department of Education organised the conference in collaboration with the Department of Philosophy, PU.

During the three-day international conference, around 250 scholars, educators, senior professors, and policymakers from India and abroad participated in rigorous intellectual exchanges, collaboration, and the generation of actionable insights for advancing educational policies. Key topics of discussion included the impact of emerging policies on education, strategies for promoting social justice and inclusivity, the role of technology in transforming educational landscapes, and the integration of sustainable development goals into educational frameworks.

On the final day of the 14th Annual International CESI Conference, a special session titled “The World of Learning: A Comparative Study of School Education Reforms in 52 Countries” was delivered by Prof. Marmar Mukhopadhyay from Educational Technology and Management Planning and Administration, New Delhi.

In his detailed talk, Prof. Mukhopadhyay deliberated extensively on reforms such as inclusive education, gender sensitivity, special needs education, critical thinking, vocational learning, and value-based education. His comparative analysis provided valuable insights into how various countries are addressing these reforms, offering a platform for dialogue and partnerships among educators and policymakers. The session was well-received, sparking engaging discussions among participants about the future of education and the imperative of reforming school systems to meet the diverse needs of learners globally.

The second day of the 14th Annual International CESI Conference, organised by the Department of Education, Panjab University (PU), Chandigarh, was marked by insightful academic discussions and special lecture, bringing together scholars and participants from across the country.

Earlier today, the plenary session on the theme ‘Understanding Punjab’ was chaired by Prof. Akshaya Kumar from the PU Department of English. The session featured eminent panelists, including Prof. Ranjit Singh Ghuman, an economist from GNDU, Amritsar; Prof. Surinder Singh Jodhka from Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi; and Prof. Sukhmani Bal Riar, a historian from PU. The discussion examined Punjab’s contemporary challenges from historical, sociological, and economic perspectives. Key issues such as the political credibility crisis, economic stagnation, and a lack of visionary leadership were highlighted as factors contributing to the state’s precarious position. Despite these concerns, the panelists emphasised the enduring resilience and spirit of Punjab and its people.

The day also featured a special lecture by Padmashri Prof. Krishna Kumar on “Understanding Higher Education and Its Current Predicament.” Drawing on stories from the Panchatantra, Prof. Kumar reflected on the challenges faced by higher education in India, including the erosion of mutual trust, affection, and contemplative practices. He further noted that the excessive focus on rankings and grades, both among individuals and institutions, has compounded these challenges. Prof. Kumar emphasised the importance of fostering relationships, free dialogue, and collaborative discussions on campuses as essential for the co-creation of knowledge.

The session was chaired by Prof. Kuldeep Puri and moderated by Ms. Yamini, a research scholar at the Department of Philosophy. The lecture attracted a packed audience and was attended by distinguished figures such as Prof Arun Grover, former PU Vice-Chancellor; Mr. Atamjeet Singh; Prof. I.D. Gaud; and Prof. Furqan Qamar, former Vice-Chancellor of CUHP.

Last evening, the first day of the conference concluded with a lively cultural program in the university’s main auditorium, celebrating India’s diversity. Graced by Prof. Harsh Nayyar, former Director of RDC, and Prof. Yojna Rawat as Guests of Honour, the program showcased captivating performances by students from the Department of Education. Highlights included Kathak, Natti, Rajasthani folk dance, and the energetic Bhangra, which brought a festive close to the day’s academic discussions.

The three-day CESI conference continues to foster meaningful dialogue on critical academic and social issues.

The Mayor appreciated the work done by Horticulture department, MCC and the dedication of area councillor and said that these beautiful green belts will be beneficial for all people including young, old and children. He said that it is equal responsibility of public regarding upkeep of the Green Belts in the city beautiful. He said that in addition to providing better infrastructure & facilities to the citizens of Chandigarh, the Municipal Corporation will extend all kind of help to resolve the problems of the citizens.

He informed about the main features of the Green belt having total area 7.25 acre. He said that boundary wall, children play equipment, walking track, benches, huts, plantation of ornamental trees, grassing etc. have been provided in the Green belt. Different flower beds have also been developed in this green belt.

SKILLING IS IMPERATIVE FOR VIKSIT BHARAT 2047

UIAMS, Panjab University concluded 30 hours Skill Enhancement Course on “Data Visualization with Excel, Tableau, and Power BI” today. The course was organised in association with Centre for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Panjab University. The chief guest of the valedictory function was Prof. Savita Bhatnagar, Director (RD&C). In her valedictory address she said that such courses are crucial for MBA students because it equips them with essential skills to navigate the data-driven landscape of modern business. In today’s competitive environment, businesses generate vast amounts of data, and the ability to interpret and present this data in a clear, actionable format is invaluable for decision-making. MBA students, who are future business leaders and managers, need to understand not only how to analyze data but also how to communicate insights effectively to stakeholders across different functional areas. She further said skilling, upskilling and reskilling is the mandate for Skill India program and such skilling courses will  contribute towards the Viksit Bharat 2047.

Prof. Monika Aggarwal, Director, UIAMS extended formal welcome and highlighted that the basic premise for initiating this course was to give a student’s a hands-on experience with three of the most widely used data visualization tools in the business world: Excel, Tableau, and Power BI as these skills are particularly important when dealing with senior management, clients, or investors, where clear and impactful data presentation can drive business strategies. The course will enable the participants to turn complex datasets into strategic insights empowers students to take a more analytical and evidence-based approach in their roles, giving them a competitive advantage in the job market.

Prof. Suveera Gill, Honorary Director, CSDE, Panjab University read the report of the course Participants delved into Excel formulas and functions, explored the interactive Tableau interfaces, and mastered the capabilities of Power BI. She said in each session the resource persons ensured hands-on training, providing practical exposure that complements theoretical understanding. This holistic approach has equipped participants with skills that are not only relevant but also critical for effective decision-making in today’s fast-paced world.

Prof. Sarbjit Singh, Dr. Monika Sharma, UIET, Prof. Veenu Mangat and Dr. Akashdeep from UIET and Dr. Vandita kakkar from Centre for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship were the resource persons. Dr. Naveen Kumar, Dr. Manjushri Sharma and Dr. Rachita Sambyal were the course coordinators from UIAMS. Ms. Kanika, Ms. Mona and Mr. Arshdeep were the research scholars coordinators from UIAMS.

The participants felt that the course will help them in all domains wherever they will be employed, whether in marketing, finance, operations, HR, supply chain or strategy. They learnt how to make sense of data to identify trends, forecast outcomes, and solve real-world business problems. Ultimately, mastering data visualization will enable them to make more informed decisions, contribute to their organizations’ success, and excel in leadership positions.
