Chandigarh, August 16:- Commemorating the glorious 75 years of Independence, Chandigarh Smart City Limit (CSCL) organized a visit to the state-of-art Integrated Command and Control Centre located in Sector 17, Chandigarh.

A group of 28 students from Government College of Education, Sector 20 witnessed the Brain of City in action.

Information and Communications Technology (ICT) experts of the Chandigarh Smart City Limited gave a full demonstration on live functioning of ICCC enabled citizen centric services like Management of Traffic, Public Bike Sharing, Intelligent Traffic management System, Solid Waste Management, E-Governance, Sewerage, Electricity and Smart Lighting on the video wall in ICCC.

In view of celebration of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav, various visits have been planned to showcase the projects of the ICCC to the different groups of people for mass awareness under the leadership of Ms. Anindita Mitra IAS, Chief Executive Officer, Chandigarh Smart City Limited cum Commissioner, Municipal Corporation Chandigarh.

“Integrated command and control center (ICCC) striving to provide efficient service deliveries, a safe and secure environment and better quality of life to the citizens. It acts as a “nerve centre” for operations management. It processes a complex and large pool of data sets at an aggregated level. ICCC is designed to enable city administrators to monitor the status of various amenities, any kind of disaster by providing them the real time incident details and help in rapid resolution of the situation”, she said.

The group of college students also visited the state-of-the-art call centre, 24×7 help desk, which has also been established in ICCC building for addressing citizen grievances at a faster pace.

“Young generation shall be greatly benefited from this great project. These solutions will help to improve the women safety in the city”, a female student said.

“It is very interesting to see how technology and information from various departments is being collected, processed and then analyzed on daily basis”, feedback from a student.

 Governor inaugurates 1st Amrit Sarovar of Chandigarh at Kaimbwala

Chandigarh, August 15:- To give a boost to water conservation and environment in city, Sh. Banwarilal Purohit, the Governor of Punjab and Administrator, UT, Chandigarh today inaugurated 1st Amrit Sarovar of Chandigarh at village Kaimbwala in the presence of Smt. Sarbjit Kaur Dhillon, Mayor, Sh. Dharm Pal, IAS, Adviser to the Administrator, Chandigarh.

Before inaugurating the Amrit Sarovar, the Administrator hoisted the National flag at the Amrit Sarovar. He dedicated the Sarovar to the local residents of Kaimbwala after performing a ritualistic puja of ‘Varun Devta’.

While addressing the gathering, Smt. Sarbjit Kaur Dhillon, Mayor, Chandigarh said that the Prime Minister of India Sh. Narendra Modi launched a mission to conserve water for the future which is known as ‘Amrit Sarovar Mission’ which will be completed by 15th August, 2023. For celebrating the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, ‘Amrit Sarovar’ aims to develop and rejuvenate 75 water bodies in each district of India. Under this mission, 50,000 water bodies of size of above an Acre will be created and as part of this mission, Chandigarh Municipal Corporation has rejuvenated this beautiful Sarovar at village Kaimbwala.

She said that the Sarovar will not only help in protecting environment and conserving water but will also be an attraction for people of the nearby areas. Besides fountain and lighting and other sitting arrangements has also been made available there. She said participation and cooperation of people and promptness of the local residents and Municipal Corporation has played an important role in rejuvenate the Sarovar in a very short time.

She said that earlier, people used to dig ponds themselves. But for a long time, people did not pay attention to the cleanliness of the ponds, due to which those became polluted. With the passage of time, waste coming out of various sources started flowing into these ponds. The water of the ponds started overflowing but the Municipal Corporation has taken the initiative to resolve this problem and rejuvenated various ponds in the city into beautiful Sarovars.

Sharing information about the Amrit Sarovar at Kaimbwala, Ms. Anindita Mitra, IAS, Commissioner stated that every Amrit Sarovar will be approximate one acre with 10,000 cubic meters of water holding capacity. The focal point of the mission is people’s participation.

She said that the Municipal Corporation has started the work of rejuvenation of 3 other ponds including at village Sarangpur, village Khudda Ali Sher and into beautiful Sarovars under the “Amrit Sarovar Mission” and will be dedicated to the public very soon. She said that recharge mechanism has also been developed separately for each Sarovar, which will fill the pond upto a fixed level. These sarovars will help in raising the ground water level and also avoid flooding in the villages, she added.

UIAMS Celebrates Har Ghar Tiranga

University Institute of Applied Management Sciences, Panjab University, celebrated the flagship program Har Ghar Tiranga on 13th August, to mark the 75th Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav. NSS students from different departments of Panjab university, including Biochemistry, Biophysics, Mathematics, UICET, UIET, UILS, ISSER, and Evening studies took part in the event. 

Prof. Monica Aggarwal, director UIAMS, addressed the students and motivated them to contribute towards nation building in a constructive way. The event was coordinated by

Dr. Naveen, and Dr. Rachita Sambyal. A mask painting competition on the theme of Har Ghar Tiranga was held, in which seventeen teams participated. The participants then sang patriotic songs, and were given national flags so that they can spread the message of national integration in their student community.

To bring to light and remember the pain and agony of millions of people who suffered during the India-Pakistan partition on the ‘Partition Horror Remembrance Day’, the Indian Council of Historical Research and Indira Gandhi National Centre for Arts commenced a four-day exhibition in Chandigarh to showcase the sufferings of partition.
The Partition Horror Remembrance Day is observed on August 14. India is presently celebrating Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav to observe the 75th year of Independence this year.
As part of this, an exhibition has been set up at retail outlets M/s Rockrose Auto, Sector 20, Chandigarh by PD Singh, prominent senior citizen and ex-servicemen, in the presence of State Level Coordinator, Oil Industry, UT Chandigarh, Subodh Choudhry.    


The exhibition will continue to display the horrors of partition till August 14, and is open to the public.


This exhibition, amongst other platforms, is also being displayed at 188 outlets of Hindustan Petroleum Corp Ltd (HPCL) across the country.


PD Singh, while speaking on the occasion, remembered the horrors of partition and complemented HPCL and MOP & NG for showcasing the horrors of partition.  
“The partition of India in its most basic form is a story of unprecedented human displacement and forced migration. It is a story in which millions sought new homes in environments that were alien and resistive. More than being a story of a violent divide based on faith and religion it is also a story of how a way of life and ages of co-existence came to a sudden and dramatic end”, he said.


Darshan Singh, Ex-MLA at Ludhiana; Harichand Singh, senior citizen and son of Freedom Fighter Balwinder Singh at Fatehgarh Sahib; and Mandeep Singh, prominent senior citizen at Ropar, also attended the inaugural function.

 Commissioner visits Dhanas to take stock of ongoing development works; listens to the problems of area residents

Chandigarh, August 11:- Ms. Anindita Mitra, IAS, Commissioner, Municipal Corporation Chandigarh today visited village Dhanas to take stock of ongoing development works alongwith to listen the issues of area residents.

The ‘on foot’ visit of Commissioner was started at 7.00 am in the morning alongwith all the team of concerned engineers accompanied by Sh. Kuljeet Singh Sandhu, area councilor, Ward No. 14, chief engineer, all Superintending Engineers and concerned Executive Engineers, SDEs, Junior Engineers of MCC, office bearers of Resident Welfare Associations and local residents.

During the visit the Commissioner directed the SE B&R for providing GI railing near booth market in Milk Colony, Dhanas. The Commissioner asked the concerned officers to provide rotating type cow/animal catcher to stop the entry of stray animals in the booth market open ground.

The Commissioner asked the concerned engineers to explore possibility to provide connectivity with the nearby bamboo park from the park near House No. 428. She asked the engineers to cover a tree with retro reflective tape to avoide accidents, situated middle of the road behind Gurdwara Sahib in booth market, Milk colony Dhanas. She asked the engineers to shift the poles in extended road to clear carriage way to the internal road behind Gurdwara Sahib near house No. 417 and the matter be take up with the electricity department, UT, Chandigarh.

She asked the SE B&R to check the status of land (park) near house No. 422, which is being used by locals for car parking and encroachment made near House No. 411. She also directed the engineers to provide indicator entry/exit boards of village Dhanas with the new allotment of sector i.e. “Welcome to Sector 14 (W) Dhanas.

The Commissioner asked the engineers to check the status of land buffer zone as the work of chain link fencing being tendered w.r.t. high court orders. She further directed the engineers to take up the matter of 32 unallotted plots in milk colony, Dhanas which are being misused for cattle rearing. She also asked the engineers to speed up challaning of the violators who throw cow dung in the park ground near House No. 736 and tap the illegal opening in this park.

She said to check the status of land near entry park on Dhanas where encroachment was done through tin shed and put up at the earliest. She asked the engineers to explore possibility for providing connectivity passage to lake road from Chaman Colony upto bridge i.e. alternative route from this colony.

She asked that level of internal streets in Chaman Colony to be maintained properly while providing paver work. Other works related including providing street lights in Chaman Colony, widening/extension of car parking towards Patiala ki Rao in Chaman/Aman colony, lifting of Mobile toilet near Chaman Colony; provision of lights, repair of fountain, repair of Gym & hut in the park at Chaman Colony.

The Commissioner asked the concerned officers to clean the road gully near House No. 1630 at Aman Colony, provision of playground/sports ground in Patiala Ki Rao in front of Aman Colony,  Provision of additional electrical pole in Triveni Park, proper planning of toilet blocks in Anganwari building with raising the sewerage covers, Road be repaired near Atam Dharam Mandir in Milk Colony, Status of land infront of police complex, Dhanas, adjustment of timing at light point near liquor vend, Dhanas.

The Commissioner directed the SE B&R and Joint Commissioner to sit together for checking status of land all around Dhanas and ownership of land alongwith legal status of these lands be put up within one week for further course of action.

Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, for the glorious 75 years of independence of our country, has been celebrated by Chemical Society, Department of Chemistry, Panjab University, Chandigarh on 10th August, 2022.Around 100 members of the department participated in the event and planted ornamental plants in the tricolored pots. The department was beautifully decorated by displaying tricolour flags in the inner and outer premises. Prof. S.K. Mehta, Vice Chancellor, University of Ladakh, Ladakh graced the occasion and distributed flags to the staff, students and guests. The participants ensured to respect the national flag of India.

The students from Nottingham Trent University have arrived at Panjab University for short-term mobility under the Turing Scheme from August 7-14. The theme of the programme is “Diversity Across Cultures: The Indian Story”. To formally welcome them and to make their stay more memorable a tree plantation drive was conducted in the IH on 8th August 2022. Ms Caroline Rowett, the British Deputy High Commissioner Chandigarh was chief guest on the occasion. The Honourable Vice Chancellor planted a ‘Kaner’ tree, followed by plantation by the other dignitaries such as  Ms Caroline Rowett, Prof Jagtar Singh (DSW), Prof Roopali (DSW-W), Prof Deepti Gupta DIS, Prof Renu Thakur, Mentor, Summer School and other faculty members from the Panjab University. Each student from NTU also planted a tree in the hostel. The plantation was followed by High Tea where the Ms Rowett interacted with the residents and the batch of NTU students.

The group, accompanied by their teacher Ms. Becca Hardy were welcomed by Prof. Renu Thakur & Dr Ravinder Kaur at International Hostel, Panjab University, Chandigarh. The group was briefed about their subsequent schedule for the impending programme.

Chandigarh, August 6: – The two days Teej Mahotsav was inaugurated with great zeal in the Shivalik Garden, Manimajra, here today. The colourful function, organized by the Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh today in the morning inaugurated by Mrs. Sarbjit Kaur Dhillon, Mayor of Chandigarh in presence of Ms. Anindita Mitra, IAS, Commissioner,  councilors, officers of MCC and local residents of area.

The function was marked with Punjabi, Haryanvi, Rajasthani, folk dances, songs, fusion of Giddha & Bhangra and Teeian de Geet by famous artists of various states. The audience present in the Mela could not stop themselves to dance on the foot-tapping beats of “Dhol” and popular Punjabi numbers.

The Mayor stressed upon the necessity to perpetuate cultural values among the masses especially in younger generation. She also enlightened the gathering about the social, religious and historical significance of the Teej Mahotsav.

While addressing the gathering she said that Municipal Corporation Chandigarh has made this Mela as an annual feature and this time decided to organize it in Shivalik Garden, Manimajra. She said that people of Chandigarh should know about their rich culture and we the Municipal Corporation are making small effort to gather the precious traditional festivals like Teej.

Earlier, Ms. Anindita Mitra, IAS, Commissioner, MCC welcomed the chief Guest and other Guests and honoured the chief guest with giving traditional fulkari to her. The chief guest took a round in the Mela spread in the 20 acre of shivalik Garden.

Other attractions of the Mela was including camel rides, cart rides, Dholi, Madari, Behrupiya, Been Jogi, Nachar, Nagada, Charkhe, Manjire, Tumbe, Jamura Show, puppet show, Fashion Show, different stalls of sweets and lassi, Maal-Pua, handi crafts, designer fabrics and other domestic items etc. by Self Help Groups and Street Vendors. The stage was decorated with colourful lights and traditional “Jhandian” flags. East meets West as the streets fill with musical sounds, with everything from traditional folk, beats of Dhol and Teej diya Bolliyan to fusion of Giddha and Bhangra.

Besides this, stalls of various services of MCC were showcased including Fire & Emergency Services, Safaimitra, Swachh Bharat Mission, DAY-NULM and Street Vendor Cell where the general public were sensitized about the services.

“Pind Di Nuhar”, a rural setup was the main attraction, where potter wheel taught children and other visitors to make clay pots and coloring the pots. A selfie point was also made with the rural set up, which was very popular spot for the visitors.

Tomorrow morning the Mela will began with folk dances and other shows including Been Jogi, Kal Beliya and Ghumar etc besides Magic Show by famous artist Pardeep Kumar. A culture evening will also be organized by Resham Singh Anmol.

Smt. Darshna, area councilor will be the Chief Guest during cultural programmes on 7th August at 11.30 am and all the Women Councillors of Municipal Corporation Chandigarh will be the Chief Guests during Cultural Evening at 5.30 pm.
