MCC starts capacity building workshop for its employees

Chandigarh, July 18:- The Municipal Corporation Chandigarh through its Capacity Building Center started its first batch of training of sanitation workers under Capacity Building component of SBM U 2.0 (Swachh Survekshan-2023) at Mahila Bhawan, Sector 38, here today.


In the training, session and technical experts have taken sessions on six major areas including Solid Waste Management, Source Segregation, Prevention of Sexual Harassment Act, Disaster Management and its demo with sanitation workers, COVID behaviour and protocol, Social Security schemes, Financial Inclusion.


In addition to that all the sanitation workers have undergone medical screen by a team deputed by Health Deptt, Chd Adm which comprised basic screening along with TB and HIV testing and counselling. All the participants were given Certificate of Participation at the training center.


During the training, SHGs and Street Vendors were engaged too with a view on converging DAY NULM And SBM with respect to promotion of Bartan Bhandar run by SHGs in view of Zero Waste Event.

 MCC starts producing bricks from recycled concrete aggregate at C&D Plant

Chandigarh, July 13:- The Municipal Corporation Chandigarh has started to cast bricks from recycled concrete aggregate at the automatic block making plant at C&D waste plant, industrial area, Phase-I, here today.

While sharing this information, Ms. Anindita Mitra, IAS, Commissioner, Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh said that there was a provision to cast bricks at this plant which was started today. 9”x4½”x3” size bricks made from recycled concrete aggregate are now available for public as well as Govt. buildings works for masonry work. Approximately ten thousand bricks will be casted daily, said the Commissioner.

She said that earlier, paver blocks were prepared in this automatic blocks making machine, which proved to be a boon for not only the Municipal Corporation but for the city as well. She said that the demand for the efficient and fast production line of automatic block making machines reduces the per-unit cost of the blocks and bricks, offers high quality, less damaged and dimensionally accurate concrete products.

She said that using a block making machine in construction has been increasing over the years but this is not a coincidence as concrete blocks offer multiple advantages economically, in terms of constructive performance, as well as in build quality and versatility.

The Commissioner said that keeping in view ease of citizens, an exclusive system has been set in place for transportation of construction and demolition waste from their door steps the MCC vehicle will lift 250 cubic foot C&D waste for its scientific disposal including loading and unloading @ Rs. 800 per trip upto 5 kilometer distance from the C&D waste plant situated at industrial area Phase-I and Rs. 100 extra per kilometer beyond 5 kilometer from the plant site. She said that people may also transport their C&D waste to the 23 designated C&D waste collection centers located throughout the city.

She said that any type of concrete blocks can be produced with consistent quality by fixing different types of moulds and ram in the automatic machine and designed to deliver unparalleled performance and cost-effective solution.

The Commissioner said that various concrete products are being produced in this automatic block making machine including big and small size kerbs, channel, paver block 60mm and 80mm and PCC bricks besides bricks.

MCC launches “Swachhata Ki Paathshala” an awareness campaign in city schools

Chandigarh, July 12:- Taking another step in the direction of Swacch Chandigarh Mission, the Municipal Corporation, today launched “Swachhata Ki Paathshala” an awareness campaign in the schools of city here today.


Ms. Anindita Mitra, IAS, Commissioner, Municipal Corporation Chandigarh launched the campaign from Govt. Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 16. 
Aiming to impress upon young minds the importance of sustainable waste management and preservation of the environment, to ensure that the future generation inculcates good practices, to reach out to parents and other adult family members through children so that families can together adopt good practices, the Municipal Corporation started its outreach program today.


While sharing  the concept, the Municipal Commissioner said that all schools of city beautiful including private schools, students from 6th to 12th, shall be addressed during the assembly. This way the Municipal Corporation shall be able to reach out to almost each and every household in Chandigarh, said the Commissioner.Starting from the Govt. Model School Sector 16, where school children were given lessons on waste segregation at source level, ban on single use plastic and home composting etc. During the workshop interactive sessions, real life examples, demonstrations through videos, quizzes and pledges were held. 


The Municipal Corporation decided to implement the same in all other schools of the city beautiful, said the Commissioner. She said that the idea is to catch them young. Children have proven to be very strong carriers of social messages especially ones related to attitudinal change. Hence through children, MCC plan to bring the change, said the Commissioner.


The Commissioner said that there were several hygiene related problems that prevail in slum areas due to lack of garbage segregation and piles of trash that rot in one corner. So spreading awareness on sanitation is the need of the hour and children are the best Swachhata Agents. Also adults get influenced when children are the ones who are teaching them good sanitary habits, she added.


During the campaign, a video presentation has also been held about the different components i.e. segregation of waste at source, ban on single use plastic and home composting besides taking the swachhata pledge. The school children were taught best hygienic practices in a fun and interesting way. They taught to implement sanitation values in their lives before teaching it to others.

In addition to the sessions, a Swachhata Module is being developed which can be shared by every class teacher with students, a home composting challenge has been thrown, students have been asked to check their dustbins before the garbage is handed over to the garbage collector, pledge has been taken to consciously avoid plastic products.

 Commissioner planted saplings of ornamental plants at green belt at Indra colony

Chandigarh, July 11:- The Municipal Corporation Chandigarh has today carried out plantation drives in different parts of city. During the plantation drive at green belt Indra Colony, Manimajra, Ms. Anindita Mitra, IAS, Commissioner, Municipal Corporation and area councilor Smt. Suman Rani started the plantation drive during which nearly 75 saplings of different flowering and ornamental trees were planted.

Similarly 125 saplings of various flowering shrubs and trees of different species were planted in different parks and green belts in city.

विश्व जनसंख्या दिवस पर पोस्टर बनाओ प्रतियोगिता का आयोजन

चंडीगढ़। महर्षि दयानंद पब्लिक स्कूल दरिया चंडीगढ़ में विश्व जनसंख्या दिवस पर पोस्टर बनाओ प्रतियोगिता का आयोजन किया गया।  इस दौरान विद्यार्थियों  ने  विश्व जनसंख्या दिवस  पर अर्थपूर्ण पोस्टर बनाये । उन्होंने बढ़ती जनसंख्या पर चिंता व्यक्त करते हुए कहा कि जनसंख्या में बढ़ोतरी होने के कारण समस्याएं अधिक बड़ी है और प्रकृति के साथ अंधाधुंध खिलवाड़ हो रहा है।          

             विद्यार्थियों ने पोस्टर के माध्यम से लोगों को जागरूक करते हुए बताया कि जनसंख्या के बढ़ने से पर्यावरण में असंतुलन पैदा हुआ है। वातावरण को शुद्ध बनाए रखने के लिए छोटा परिवार का होना जरूरी है। उन्होंने कहा कि जनसंख्या बढ़ने से धरती पर खतरा मंडरा रहा है यह मानव, पशुओं और पक्षियों के लिए भी घातक है।  उन्होंने बताया कि जनसंख्या बढ़ने से लगातार पेड़ों की कटाई की जा रही है। उन्होंने कहा कि यदि जनसंख्या कम होती है तो पर्यावरण भी साफ सुथरा रह सकता है।  इसलिए सुरक्षित और शुद्ध पर्यावरण के लिए जनसंख्या पर नियंत्रण अति आवश्यक है। पर्यावरण को स्वच्छ बनाने के लिए अधिक पेड़ पौधे लगाए जाने चाहिए।जूनियर वर्ग में लवप्रीत को प्रथम,लक्ष्मी को द्वितीय, हेमंत को तृतीय और अनीशा व ख़ुशी को सांत्वना पुरस्कार से प्रदान किया गया जबकि सीनियर केटेगरी में  साक्षी, नर्मता और अंकिता को क्रमशः पहला, दूसरा, तीसरा और ख़ुशी व मानसी को सांत्वना पुरस्कार दिया गया।

 स्कूल के प्रिंसिपल डॉ. विनोद कुमार ने कहा कि जनसंख्या वृद्धि के कारण मनुष्य अपने स्वार्थ के वशीभूत होकर पेड़ काटता है।  इससे वह स्वयं और दूसरों के जीवन को खतरे में डाल रहा है। असंतुलित पर्यावरण को संतुलित बनाने के लिए अधिक से अधिक पौधे लगाए जाने अति आवश्यक हैं।

CHASCON 2022-Logo Design Competition

Entries were invited for the “Competition for Design of Logo” for the CHASCON 2022 by the organizing team in the month of June. A total of 24 entries were received from the students of the Panjab University and affiliated colleges. On July, 8 2022, the organizing team announced that a specially-constituted jury had selected the design created by Ms. Rashmita Subba, a student at Government Home Science College, Sector 10, Chandigarh, as the winning entry in CHASCON 2022 logo design competition. The logo was designed in VIBGYOR pattern having the symbol of Chandigarh. It symbolizes various holistic approaches and amalgamation of various disciplines of science and technology towards growth and development. This logo will be used aa the official logo for the CHASCON and the winner will be awarded during the conference.

Mayor  & Commissioner visits Sector 13, Manimajra to take stock of basic amenities; listens to the problems of area residents

Chandigarh, July 9:- Smt. Sarbjit Kaur, Mayor, Chandigarh and Ms. Anindita Mitra, IAS, Commissioner, Municipal Corporation Chandigarh today visited Manimajra area to take stock of basic amenities and ongoing development works alongwith to see the problems of area residents.

The on foot visit of Commissioner was started at 7.00 am in the morning. The Mayor and Commissioner were accompanied by chief engineer, all Superintending Engineers and concerned Executive Engineers, SDEs, Junior Engineers of MCC, office bearers of Resident Welfare Associations and local residents.

During the visit the Commissioner asked the SE B&R and architect for proper planning of slip road near Sheetla Mata Mandir and culvert (near housing board light point), Manimajra. She asked the SE B&R to recarpet the road from housing board light point to fauji dhaba after scrapping.

The Commissioner asked the concerned engineers to install Sector 13 board at entry point of Shivalik Enclave and asked them to send a proposal to Chief Architect, UT for naming Shivalik Enclave as sector 13-A. The house indicators boards in Shivalik Enclave to be re-painted and numbering to be done at the earliest.

She asked to check the flow of water around the Nullah during rainy season and if possible for surfacing of small bridge with concrete/bituminous material besides refilling around the nullah with bio-soil and to develop the area as Green belt. The Commissioner asked the engineers to conduct digital survey of the vacant land near Chandigarh & Haryana boundary and the same to be submitted for further planning.

The Commissioner asked the engineers to install cat eye on speed breaker on road near Nullah in Shivalik Enclave. She asked the officers to write to SSP traffic to deploy traffic staff near entry point to Shivalik Enclave from Chandigarh Kalka Highway.

She further asked for cleaning of channel infront of house No. 53 at Shivalik Enclave and channel linked fencing to be done on area infront of house No. 275 after proper demarcation besides preparing expression of interest for design of Multi level parking on PPP basis for vacant land near Gobindpura, Manimajra.

The Commissioner asked the SE, Public Health, MCC to repair the leakage on road infront of house No. 110 and infront of house No. 80 in Shivalik Enclave. She asked the SE, Horticulture and Electricity to conduct survey of all the trees to identify the dangerous trees in the area. She said that UT electricity department to be written to repair/replace the inclined dangerous electricity pole infront of House No. 83, Shivalik Enclave.

She said that open air gyms be installed in all parks of Shivalik Enclave with paver blocks platforms besides providing high mast lights in all the parks. She asked the Medical Officer of Health to provide dustbins at various locations and maintain proper roaster system for sweeping of streets and malba lifting at shivalik enclave. The Commissioner also asked the concerned officers to remove temporary encroachments near Sheetla Mata Mandir, Manimajra.

In addition to that the Mayor and Commissioner planted saplings of various medicinal trees in park of NAC, Shivalik enclave, Manimajra, Sector 13 besides planting saplings in a park at sector 22, where area councilor Sh. Damanpreet Singh and other area residents also planted various medicinal plants.

Awareness drive on single use plastic cum plantation drive organized by Laxmi Bai Hall, Panjab University

Laxmi Bai Hall(GH2) organised an awareness drive on single use plastic cum plantation drive for the hostel residents and staff. An expert lecture by Mr.Prabhu Nath  Shahi who is Ex. Forest Officer and retired Flight Engineer of IAF  is working for saving the environment through his foundation Jai Madhusudan Jai Shri Krishna Foundation. The objective of the lecture was to make students aware about the drawbacks of single use plastic and to encourage them to imbibe new behaviours that are conducive for building a safe environment for living. The program concluded with oath taken by students to save their environment and distribution of plants among the students. A plantation drive was also conducted where in the students adopted the plants and promised to take care of them. They were also encouraged to handover the responsibility of their plant to new residents whenever they leave the hostel. Mr Shahi encouraged the students regarding active participation in plantation and stop the use of plastics.

 IGNOU starts 16 new programmes from July 2022 Session

Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) admission process for the online admission for the session July, 2022 for all the programmes.  The interested applicants can apply through the online link: https://ignouadmission.samarth.edu.in/ available on IGNOU website www.ignou.ac.in. The last date for admission in all the Masters, Bachelors, PG Diploma, Diploma and Certificate Programmes is 31st July, 2022 without late fee.  SC/ST students will be admitted without charging any fee in some of the Certificate/Diploma/PG Diploma & Graduate Programmes and they will have to apply online and to upload all necessary documents for fee exemption.
