The Corporate Relations and Placement Cell of University Business School in collaboration with SSKM Charitable Trust, Panchkula organized a Blood Donation Camp to celebrate Teacher’s Day.Prof Sanjay Kaushik, Head, Corporate Relations and Placement Cell of University Business School told that the camp was organized to celebrate Teacher’s Day, wherein a large number of students at University Business School participated. A team of doctors and supporting staff of GMCH,32 visited the campus for this event. Dr. Ravneet Kaur,HOD, Department of Transfusion Medicine and Dr. Bhuvandeep Dhawan were present from GMCH. The event was inaugurated by Dr. Manish Jindal, CEO, Quality Council of India, New Delhi. He congratulated the placement cell of UBS and the students for organizing the event on a large scale. Prof. Sanjay Kaushik motivated students to participate in the noble cause.

There was a lot of enthusiasm among the students for the event and anumber of students donated the blood voluntarily.

The drive which started at 9.30 am, was carried on till evening at University Business School of Panjab University.

Celebrating the Teacher’s Day, Corporate Relations and Placement Cell of University Business School also decided to contribute money for donating stationery, sweaters, warm clothes, and other necessary items to the underprivileged students.This shall be done in collaboration with Ashish Mittal Foundation, Punjab.

The money contributed by the students of UBS shall be used for the benefit of children from Mubarakpur and surrounding villages in Banur, Punjab.

It was an honor for the department to organize an event at such large scale on Teacher’s Day, which marks a great contribution to the society.

Crèche opened at MCC building

Chandigarh, September 1:- Smt. Sarbjit Kaur Dhillon, Mayor, Chandigarh on Thursday opened a crèche for children of Municipal staff at MCC building, Sector 17, Chandigarh in the presence of Ms. Anindita Mitra, IAS, Commissioner, MCC.

The Mayor said that the facility has been set up on the ground floor of MCC building. Children in the age group between 06 months and 10 years will be admitted to the crèche. This is part of the Municipal Corporation’s efforts to have childcare centre at workplace.

She further said the crèche will be open between 9.30 am and 5.30 pm. A social worker and a helper from Social Welfare Department, Chandigarh have been assigned to take care of the children. It will remain closed on public holidays and Sundays. The crèche is equipped with a refrigerator, Geyser, Induction, RO, Almirahs, gas stove, child-friendly furniture, cradles, bed, toys, child-friendly washroom and a breastfeeding space, added the Mayor.

Commissioner launches Swachh Technology Challenge under SBM 2.0

Chandigarh, September 1:- Ms. Anindita Mitra, IAS, Commissioner, Municipal Corporation Chandigarh launched ‘Swachh Technology Challenge’ today and invites entries with innovative solutions from individuals, startups, NGOs and government as well as private organizations.

She said that the objective of this challenge is to promote innovative technology, sustainability and easy-to-use methods under sanitation and solid waste management. The entries for Challenge will be received via given QR code in the Google form from today onwards till 30th November, 2022. The top three solutions across the City Beautiful will be felicitated in an award function in the month of December, 2022. The cash prizes declared under Swachh Technology Challenge for the best three entries are Rs. 1,00,000/- for first winner, Rs. 51,000/- for second winner and Rs. 21,000/- for the third winner,” the Commissioner said.

The Commissioner said that the organizations/individuals have been invited to come up with ideas to improve waste management in the city by using innovative technology under four categories which are Social Inclusion, Zero Dump, Plastic Waste Management and Transparency. The themes given for the technology challenge will be Solid Waste Processing & Recycling, Plastic Recycling & its alternatives, Innovation for cleaners and Sanitation & waste Management under Swachh Bharat Mission.

She said over the years, MCC under Swachh Bharat Mission has been encouraging innovations and best practices particularly through Swachh Survekshan, the annual cleanliness survey conducted by MoHUA. A pre launch webinar of Swachh Technology Challenge was organized on 31st August, 2022 where a large number of people joined from engineering colleges, industrials, institutes and individuals. The details and modalities of the Challenge were elaborated in a presentation.

MCC scientifically processes 6000 Kg sanitary waste in the first month of starting operations

Chandigarh, September 1:- With an aim to process sanitary waste scientifically, the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh has processed 6000 Kg of domestic sanitary waste in the month of August.


While sharing this big achievement, Ms. Anindita Mitra, IAS, Commissioner, Municipal Corporation Chandigarh said that finally the problem of scientific disposal of daily sanitary waste was over. She said started from August 3rd, 2022, the MCC vehicles collected the sanitary waste separately from the households of city beautiful and from the three designated common collection points of MCC including Material Recovery Facility cum Garbage Transfer Centre (MRF/GTC), industrial area Ph-1, MRF/GTC industrial area Ph-2 and MRF/GTC at Sector 25, Chandigarh, the same has been got processed off scientifically through incineration at Industrial area phase-I, Chandigarh.
She said that daily monitoring system has been set up ight from the collection of sanitary waste in separate compartment upto its scientific disposal. She said that it was a big challenge before the MCC that what to do with menstrual waste, which is a prominent source of microbial contamination.


She said that MCC started collection of sanitary waste from the residents every day long back but its scientific disposal was the main problem. Now through a local authorized agency, which has all facilities of incineration of biomedical of waste, the sanitary waste is being set processed on daily basis.


She further said that even if citizen wrap the sanitary napkins in a newspaper and then throw it in a dustbin, it leads to a prolific growth of microorganisms in absence of an immediate collection system. This becomes a threat to human health and to avoid this, the MCC has provided special dustbins which are covered with anti-microbial linings to the dealing staff of the sanitary waste at the MRF stations.


The Commissioner said that the MCC has made waste segregation compulsory in the city and accordingly, residents were asked to segregate wet, dry, hazardous and sanitary waste and the same are being collected separately through waste collection vehicles of MCC on daily basis which are further disposed off scientifically.

She further said that the MCC will act against those who do not practice waste segregation at its source. The MCC has already conducted several rounds of awareness drives on the implementation of waste segregation system and insisting residents in the city segregate waste at its source for several years.

संस्‍थानों के बीच संवाद के लिए परिषद् बनेगा प्‍लेटफार्म- प्रो. कुठियाला

परिवार पहचान पत्र का अभियान एक सकल अभियान है। राष्‍ट्रीय स्‍तर पर प्रदेश के इस योजना की चर्चा की जा रही है। दूसरे प्रदेश की सरकारें भी इस योजना के कार्यान्‍वयन को देखने, समझने प्रदेश में आ रही है। अब परिवार पहचान पत्र (पीपीपी) योजना के क्रियान्‍वयन में विद्यार्थियों एवं प्राध्‍यापकों को भी शामिल किया जा रहा है। विद्यार्थी योजना के तरत प्राप्‍त डेटा का वेरिफिकेशन करेंगे और प्राध्‍यापक उसको मार्गदर्शित करेंगे। यह कार्य परिवार पहचान पत्र योजना में लाभार्थियों के द्वारा उपलब्‍ध कराएं गए डेटा का तीन स्‍तरों पर जांच करने के लिए किया जा रहा है। इस कार्य में प्रदेश के विद्यार्थियों को वालंटियर के रूप से कार्य करने के लिए आगे आना चाहिए। उन्‍होंने कहा कि परिवार पहचान पत्र के बनने के बाद कई समस्‍याएं सामने आयी और उन समस्‍याओं का समाधान तकनीक के माध्‍यम से निकाला गया है। प्रो. कुठियाला ने कहा कि प्रत्‍येक विश्‍वविद्यालय में एक व्‍यक्ति को पीपीपी का कार्य देखेने की जिम्‍मेवारी दी गई है। इससे कार्य में तेजी आने की संभावना है। परिषद् के अध्‍यक्ष प्रो. बृज किशोर कुठियाला हरियाणा राज्‍य उच्‍च शिक्षा परिषद् द्वारा आयोजित सुशासन के उद्देश्‍य, प्रक्रिया और उपकरण विषय पर आयोजित बैठक में बोल रहे थे। प्रो. कुठियाला ने कहा कि आज शिक्षा जगत में विचारों, तकनीकों और सुविधाओं को संस्‍थान के स्‍तर पर आपस में आंतरिक और बाह्य स्‍तर पर साक्षा करने की आवश्‍यकता महसूस की जा रही है। इसके लिए प्रदेश के उच्‍च शिक्षा के संस्‍थानों को आपस में संवाद करने होंगे। संस्‍थानों को संवाद करने के लिए परिषद् प्‍लेटफार्म के रूप में कार्य करने के लिए हमेशा उपलब्‍ध है।    

हरियाणा राज्‍य उच्‍च शिक्षा परिषद् के नेतृत्‍व में प्रदेश के विश्‍वविद्यालयों एवं महाविद्यालयों के अधिकारियों की बैठक हरियाणा निवास में बुधवार, 31 अगस्‍त 2022 को आयोजित किया गया। इस बैठक में मुख्‍यअतिथि आईएएस वी. उमाशंकर प्रधान सचिव मुख्‍यमंत्री, हरियाणा सरकार, विशिष्‍ठ अतिथि उच्‍च एवं तकनीकी शिक्षा विभाग, हरियाणा के प्रधान सचिव आईएएस विजयेन्‍द्र कुमार थे। कार्यक्रम की अध्‍यक्षता हरियाणा राज्‍य उच्‍च शिक्षा परिषद् के अध्‍यक्ष प्रो. बृज किशोर कुठियाला ने की। बैठक में अतिथियों का परिचय एवं स्‍वागत परिषद् के परामर्शदाता श्री के.के. अग्निहोत्री ने की।

बैठक में मुख्‍यमंत्री के प्रधान सचिव वी.उमाशंकर ने कहा कि परिवार पहचान पत्र का उद्देश्‍य तकनीकी सहयोग के आधार पर नागरिकों के जीवन को आसान एवं सुविधा संपन्‍न बनाना है। विश्‍वविद्यालयों एवं महाविद्यालयों में नामांकन का अधिकांश कार्य परिवार पहचान पत्र के आधार पर ही सफलतापूर्वक संपन्‍न किया गया है। श्री उमाशंकर ने कहा कि एक कार्ड के होने से नागरिकों को सरकारी योजनाओं में सहभागिता आसानी से हो रही है। पहले नागरिकों के अपने कार्य के लिए सरकारी कार्यालयों में भटकना पड़ता था लेकिन अब तकनीकी सहयोग से संचालित परिवार पहचान पत्र के डेटा के आधार पर सरकार स्‍वयं की लाभार्थी तक पहुंचने की कोशिश कर रही है। बैठक में उच्‍च एवं तकनीकी शिक्षा विभाग, हरियाणा के प्रधान सचिव आईएएस विजयेन्‍द्र कुमार ने भी अधिकारियों को संबोधित किया। बैठक के अंत में परिषद् के परामर्शदाता श्री के.के. अग्निहोत्री ने सभी अतिथियों को धन्‍यवाद दिया। इस अवसर पर परिषद् के उपाध्‍यक्ष प्रो. कैलाशचंद्र शर्मा, CRID की निदेशक सोफिया दहिया एवं अधिकारीगण, प्रदेश के राजकीय विश्‍वविद्यालयों के शैक्षणिक अधिष्‍ठाता, अधिष्‍ठाता-विद्यार्थी कल्‍याण, चयनित महाविद्यलयों के प्राचार्य, उच्‍च शिक्षा विभाग के अधिकारी एवं हरियाणा राज्‍य उच्‍च शिक्षा परिषद् के अधिकारीगण उपस्थित थे।

 Kirron Kher inaugurates Community centre at sector 21

Chandigarh August 29: Smt. Kirron Kher, Member Parliament, UT, Chandigarh today inaugurated the Community Centre in Sector 21, here in presence of Smt. Sarbjit Kaur Dhillon, Mayor, Ms. Anindita Mitra, IAS, Commissioner, Sh. Anup Gupta, Deputy Mayor & area councillor, other councilors of MC, representatives of Residents Welfare Associations and prominent persons of the area.

While addressing the gathering, the Member Parliament said that the Community centres offer an opportunity for people to become involved in a wide range of activities. They promote a sense of belonging and social inclusion. They provide a place where the community can meet and engage in collective activities. She said the centres are strategically located to serve the citizens which are used for cultural programmes, to organise marriages and for other social activities.

She said the idea of the community centre is to offer a place where all members of the community from young to old can meet for various activities. All too often it’s the only such place available in a community.

On the occasion, the Mayor said that the community centre building has been constructed covering area of 23344 Sq. Ft. and spread in a plot area of approximately 0.53 acre at a cost of Rs. 581 lacs. She said that this community centre has capacity to accommodate 500 people in one time party and sufficient parking space.

She said that the community centre was best of its kind in city and consisting of one hall, pantry, kitchen, office room, caretaker room, enterance lobby, stair case, lift, gents & ladies toilet blocks in ground floor. While two halls, bride room, groom room, dormitory, stair case, lift and toilets for ladies and gents in the 1st floor. Gymnasium, two rooms, library, open terrace and toilets for ladies and gents in the 2nd floor.

The Mayor said that this community centre will be a good asset to the residents of local area as they can organize parties and other programmes in very nominal government rates near their doorsteps.

Evening Water Supply at low pressure on 31st August at some sectors of Chandigarh

Chandigarh, August 29:- Due to replacement of the defective flow sensor at inlet pipeline of raw water at water works 12 from water works 39, Chandigarh, there will be low water supply during evening time in the sectors 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 21 A, 22 A&B, 25 and PGI, Chandigarh.
The schedule of water supply for these sectors will be as under:
31.08.2022
Morning: 3.00 am to 9.00 am (Normal water supply)
Evening: 7.00 pm to 9.00 pm (Water supply at low pressure)
The residents of these sectors are hereby requested to bear with the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh.

 Chandigarh Smart City installs water ATM in Sector 35 market

Chandigarh, August 27:- Ms. Prem Lata, area councillor inaugurated the First water ATM in the market Sector 35, here today in the presence of Sh. N.P. Sharma, Chief Engineer, MCC & Shopkeepers of the Market.

While sharing information about the scheme, the Chief Engineer said that Chandigarh Smart City Ltd. has provided Municipal Corporation 4 water ATMS which have been installed in the Market of Sector 35 Chandigarh. All the Water ATMs have been supplied by Punjab and Sind Bank under CSR funds at a cost of each Water ATM about Rs. 5.25 Lakh.

He said that the Municipal Corporation has incurred expenditure of installation and civil work costing about Rs 2 Lakh per Water ATM and also will bear its maintenance charges including electricity and water charges from time to time.

He further said that the potable water of quality as per BIS standards -14543 duly will be available to the Shop Keepers as well as visitors from 9.00 am to 9.00 pm daily at the following charges :-

Rs1/- for 300ML

Rs.3/- for 500ML

Rs.5/- for 1000ML

Rs.20 for 5000 ML

Rs.35/- for 20000ML.

The Chief Engineer said the Water ATM has been equipped with provision for chilled water (water with temperature around 15 degree celsius during summers. A LED digital screen has been provided to show four key parameters of water standards namely PH, Hardness, TDS & temperature on real time basis. The user may scan the card or insert the coin on WAU(Water ATM Unit) sensor and press the button depending on the water requirements.

He said the storage capacity of each Water ATM is 500 Ltr which has been enhanced by providing water storage tank of 1000 Ltr along Water ATM. This will meet the long pending demand of shopkeepers as well as visitors in the market of non-availability of drinking water in the market.

 UIFT & VD Organizes Orientation Programme for B.Sc. Fashion and Lifestyle Entrants

UIFT & VD organized an orientation program for its B.Sc. first semester students. The students were initiated into the academic atmosphere through interactive lectures. The schedule of the program was spread over two days 24 and 25th August 2022.  The programme started with a welcome note by the Chairperson, Dr. Anu H. Gupta which was followed by an introduction and interaction of all the faculty members, research scholars and staff of the department.

The alumnus speaker Mohini shared her journey of starting her career as a young Blogger and moving on to her Startup -clothing line” Moji”. She elaborated how she conceptualized the startup, and how does she work from idea generation to finalizing design ideas into final products. This was followed by another interesting and interactive talk by Dr. Ramandeep Bawa, faculty UIFT. She introduced the students to the idea of “Visual Merchandising”. She explained how important is visual merchandising for the retail business and how design professionals work on various ideas of Visual merchandising. 

Another noteworthy online talk was given by a member of the industry, Ms. Minal, a senior merchandiser at Windspree Fashions Pvt. Ltd. in Noida and an alumnus of UIFT. She discussed the ‘Scope of growth in garment industry’. She described the full process of work done in an Apparel export house. Along with describing in detail how to create embellished product designs, she also showed the students the real samples she had at her export company. She also took up queries of the students and briefed them about the job roles in export industry.

Along with the lectures on hands-on experience from the industry experts, Ms Parneet Brar, faculty member introduced the students to the study culture and decorum of the department.  Videos of fashion show of UIFT ‘Shears and Rubans’ from various years were showcased, which was followed by interactive session of question-answers and this ended with a campus tour, where students of B.Sc. 5th semester accompanied the freshers to the prominent places of PU campus like Gandhi Bhawan, AC Joshi library, Student Centre etc. Seniors showed them nearest market and tuck shop where they can buy raw materials in the future. The students found the visit to the Museum of Geology Department to be really fascinating, particularly the colour and texture of the museum’s collection of mineral rocks.

The orientation programme was enjoyed and was found to be very engaging by the class. “First day I was kind of nervous but then it turned out to be the best day” said Himanshi Sodhi. Kanita said that she was very happy with workshops and lectures that were organized for freshers. Arsh was very impressive with the greenery around in the campus. Pratigya added that we freshers all are from different cultures and enjoyed these initial days at UIFT and learnt from each other. Nupur remarked

“Since day one we had exclusive lectures with people working in the industry sharing their experiential knowledge and insights about their business from start to boom. We were guided and motivated as to the career opportunities we can opt for and how to make most of the course we’re in. We learned to be more patient during the process of learning and appreciate art while being exposed to everyone else’s thought process and create something new. These activities helped us come together as a class and help each other.”
