Chandigarh, September 17:- It was a red letter day for Chandigarh, when over 2000 youth got together to form a human chain at Rose Garden, Sector 16, Chandigarh on the occasion of mega launch of ‘Swachh Amrit Mahotsav’ scheduled to be carried out from 17th September to 2nd October, 2022.


The activity was undertaken to mobilize communities from across the city to bring about behavioral change, with an aim to make the city Garbage Free. The youths from different schools and colleges of city made ‘Open Hand’, 75 Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’, ‘4 type of dustbins’ (Green, Blue, Black & Red for segregation of waste), ‘Chandigarh Challengers’, the official logo of ‘Swchhata League’ and human chain besides carrying out a rally in northern sectors. The event was powered by Punjab & Sind Bank as main sponsor.


Smt. Sarbjit Kaur, Mayor, Chandigarh launched the ‘Swachh Amrit Mahotsav’, 15 days long activity schedule from Swachhata League at the Rose Garden, Sector 16 in the presence of Ms. Anindita Mitra, IAS, Commissioner, Sh. Dalip Sharma, Senior Deputy Mayor, Sh. Anup Gupta, Deputy Mayor, Rohit Kumar team leader, Brand Ambassadors of SBM, other dignitaries and prominent persons of city.


Speaking on the occasion, the Mayor said that to celebrate eight years of Swachh Bharat Mission-Urban, the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh will organize ‘Swachh Amrit Mahotsav’, a fortnight of activities to galvanize action around swachhata from 17th Sept. Seva Diwas, till 2nd Oct. 2022, Swachhata Diwas. The fortnight will focus on mobilizing citizen action and commitment towards the vision of building ‘Garbage Free City’.


She said that in line with the Prime Minister’s vision of harnessing youth energy for positive action, the first ever ‘Indian Swachhata League’, an inter-city competition took place between the youth. For the maiden edition of ISL, more than 1,850 city teams from across the country have officially registered to compete. The team ‘Chandigarh Challengers’ compete in the League by creating their own unique sanitation initiative to focus on creating garbage free tourist places, she added.
She said that the event went a long way to spread awareness about Swachhata, not just in the city beautiful, but across the entire Nation. This initiative was first of its kind in the history of Chandigarh, which will remain in the memory of people across the city and the country for a longer time. She said that this was the biggest and most effective of all mobilization activities to have ever been conducted in the city, involving youth of Chandigarh.


While sharing objective of the Swachhata League, Ms. Anindita Mitra, IAS, Commissioner, MCC said that with the aim of achieving segregation of waste at source level and ‘Garbage Free City’, the human chain mobilized communities from across the city in large numbers to join hands and pledge to ensure proper sanitation and hygiene in homes and surroundings and stop the practice of mixing waste at their households for protecting environment and well being of society.


She said that it was part of the ‘Swachh Amrit Mahotsav’ campaigns for behavior change. She said that keeping in view the event as “Zero Waste’ event participants were offered glass bottles of milk and fruits, while staff provided assistance at every step for the smooth functioning of this historic event from transporting the youths from their respective schools by deploying buses to the event venue and back to their respective schools.


She said that besides banner and standees for the promotion of the event and for developing consciousness towards sanitation and health along with ‘Swachh Amrit Mahotsav’, T-Shirts and caps of Blue, Green, Black and Red were distributed to the participants for uniformity towards a common cause and for creating biggest symbolic chain of different type of wastes i.e. Dry waste (Blue), Wet waste (Green), Hazardous waste (Black) and Sanitary waste (Red) with a aim to promote segregation of the four type of waste at source level.
She further said that this initiative has already generated a lot of excitement and interest amongst the youth fraternity. Various other interesting initiatives have been lined up during the fortnight such as the Start-Up Challenge Forum, Toycathon- Making toys from waste, Raddi se Prgati, bhoomi pujan of legacy waste at landfill site, Mega insurance of all MCC employees, Mega full Health checkup camp for Safaimitras under the theme ‘Mahila Evm Swasthya’ and Technology Exhibition, etc finally culminating with the observation of Swachh Bharat Diwas on 2nd Oct., Gandhi Jayanti.

Delegation from MC Udupi (Karnataka) visits Chandigarh; praises MCC projects

Chandigarh, September 16:  Mrs. Sumithra R Nayak, President, Town Municipal Council, District Udupi (Karnataka) alongwith delegation of 33 councillors & officers visited the city beautiful, Chandigarh today.

The delegation was on its study tour regarding “Solid Waste Management & Best Practices of Municipal Corporation Chandigarh”. The delegation reached Chandigarh last evening and received by senior officers of MCC.

Today morning their day long sight visit schedule was started with the presentation on Best practices of Municipal Corporation at MCC office premises, Sector 17, Chandigarh. Ms. Anindita Mitra, IAS, Commissioner, Municipal Corporation Chandigarh welcomed the delegation followed by brief introduction of the projects and best practices and functions of the MCC.

The Commissioner gave a brief presentation on Solid Waste Management system, Roads, Water Supply, Garden and Green belts, Street Lights, Tertiary Treated Water Supply, processing of C&D Waste, Property tax, management of Gaushalas, Vendor rehabilitation system and other projects of MCC.

After the presentation meeting, the delegation visited various best projects of MCC including Water Works, Public Bike Sharing System, Fire and Rescue services, Sewerage Treatment Plant, C&D Waste Plant, Ind. area, Ph-I and Integrated Command & Control Centre, Sector 17, Chandigarh.

During their sight visits, different teams headed by nodal officers of MCC briefed about the projects at their respective sites.

The President and the councilors of Udupi praised the beauty of Chandigarh including best roads in the country, neat and clean parks, planned markets and no encroachments in the road sides. They appreciated the horticulture wing especially for maintaining more than 1800 neighborhood parks in the city. They also appreciated the cleanliness of the city and solid waste management system including management of STPs and running of MRF stations in city.

MCC all set to strengthen its sewerage system and expand its distribution network of TT water. Receives Rs. 33 crore as first instalment for AMRUT 2.0 scheme.

Chandigarh, September 16:- The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) has released grant of Rs. 33 Crore as a first instalment for the projects costing Rs.170 crore under AMRUT 2.0 Scheme to Municipal Corporation Chandigarh today.


While sharing this development, Ms. Anindita Mitra, IAS, Commissioner, Municipal Corporation Chandigarh and Mission Director AMRUT said that the projects will include Laying of TT Water lines in left out areas to supply Tertiary Treated Water in Chandigarh at an estimated cost of Rs. 89 crores; Providing 24×7 Water Supply in 13 Villages in convergence with 24×7 City Water Supply Project at an estimated cost of Rs. 60 crores and Strengthening of existing Sewerage System in Chandigarh at an estimated cost of Rs. 21 crores.


She said that the MCC would prepare the detail project reports of these works and will call the tenders shortly. 


She said that the residents of the 13  villages namely Khuda Lahora, Khuda Jassu, Raipur Khurd, Raipur Kalan, Kishangarh, Khuda Alisher, Sarangpur, Daria, Dhansa, Behalana, Mauli , Makhanmajra  will get 24 x 7 canal Water supply after the implementation of the project. 


The Commissioner said that the existing sewerage network will also be strengthened by laying new sewer lines and replacement of outlived old sewer lines. The tertiary treated water distribution network will be laid in the left out area in city and in Industrial Area for its usage for maintenance of Parks as well as in Industries for washing. It will save potable water about 10MGD, she added.

 Chandigarh team visits Nagpur, see 200 MLD reuse project on PPP model

Chandigarh, September 14:- A team of councillors of Chandigarh Municipal Corporation led by Smt. Sarbjit Kaur Dhillon, Mayor and accompanied by Senior Deputy Mayor, Deputy Mayor and 21 councillors today visited the India’s largest reuse project 200 MLD on PPP model at Nagpur.

The Chandigarh team met the Nagpur Municipal Corporation authorities, where they were informed that city of Nagpur generates 550+ MLD sewage and a PPP project was launched augmentation of 200 MLD STP with reuse on PPP model with Vishvaraj Environment, private firm. With the start of that project the not only the problem of sewage flowing from Nag, Pohra and Pivali rivers, which polluted water from Gosekhurd dam resolved but helped to curb pollution by increasing treatment capacity, the authorities informed.

The officials of Nagpur Corporation briefed that the project on PPP model has Zero investment (capex/opex by operator being paid through sale of treated water), ensured quality treatment and generate less pollution.

The Chandigarh team led by the Mayor appreciated the project and expressed that feasibility will be checked to upgrade the STPs at Chandigarh at same level.

IGNOU extends Re-Registration up to 17th September, 2022

The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has extended the Re-registration date of all Masters and Bachelor programmes. The prospective learners can submit their online re-registration up to 17th September2022 for the July, 2022 session. Details of the IGNOU academic programmes and students particular can be accessed from the link https://ignouadmission.samarth.edu.in/.

Commissioner launches official logo and video teaser for ‘Swachh Amrit Mahotsav’

Chandigarh, September 13:-Today Chandigarh released its official logo and video teaser (promo) for “Swachh Amrit Mahotsav”, Swachhata League from 17th September to 2nd October, 2022.


Ms. Anindita Mitra, IAS, Commissioner, Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh released the official logo and video teaser at Rani Laxmi Bai Mahila Bhawan, Sector 38-C, Chandigarh. The official Logo of Chandigarh Challengers, signifying the resolve to intensify and reinvigorate the ‘Jan Andolan’ in the largest sanitation programme.
After releasing the logo, the Commissioner said that the campaign ‘Swachh Amrit Mahotsav’, will focus on mobilizing citizen action and commitment towards the vision of building garbage free city. She said that the Logo carrying team name of ‘Chandigarh Challengers’ Team up to Clean up will be used as official logo to promote the Swachhata league activities during the fortnight.

डॉ. भानु प्रताप सिंह ने क्षेत्रीय केंद्र, चंडीगढ़ के क्षेत्रीय निदेशक का कार्यभार करनाल मुख्यालय में आज दिनांक 12.09.2022 को संभाल लिया है l डॉ. सिंह नवोदय विद्यालय समिति में 05 वर्ष तक टीजीटी/पीजीटी गणित के रूप में सेवा देने के बाद इग्नू क्षेत्रीय केंद्र रायपुर, छत्तीसगढ़ में सहायक क्षेत्रीय निदेशक के रूप में 26.04.2006 को इग्नू में शामिल हुए।

 उन्होंने इग्नू क्षेत्रीय केंद्र, अलीगढ़ उत्तर प्रदेश में 1.4.2015 से  काम किया । 2008 से 19.04.2017 तक की अवधि के दौरान, उन्हें दो बार इग्नू क्षेत्रीय केंद्र, अलीगढ़ का प्रभार दिया गया था। उन्होंने 11.02.2010 से 08.01.2011 और 28/09/2016 से 19/04/2017 तक प्रभारी, क्षेत्रीय निदेशक के रूप में कार्य किया। उन्होंने   गणित में  एम.एससी. और एम.फिल  व   शिक्षा में पीएच.डी. किया है। उन्होंने इग्नू से पीजीडीडीई, पीजीडीएचई, मेड, एमबीए और सीएचआर प्रोग्राम भी पूरा किया है।  

डॉ. सिंह ने विभिन्न प्रतिष्ठित राष्ट्रीय और अंतर्राष्ट्रीय पत्रिकाओं में 30 से अधिक गुणवत्ता अनुसंधान पत्रों में योगदान दिया है।

Housing requirements of faculty

A delegation of teachers led by Dr Parveen Goyal and Professor Manu Sharma met Vice Chancellor of Panjab University, Professor Raj Kumar and submitted one representation requesting affordable housing for all teachers of Panjab University. Delegation apprised VC that many teachers of Panjab University are yet to get houses inside campus of University and many teachers are residing in very small houses that are very old and also in poor condition. Delegation further urged the Vice Chancellor to construct 7 storeyed buildings in sector 25 and in these buildings residential flats for young teachers should be carved. Vice Chancellor accepted the representation submitted by the delegation and assured that he will sincerely consider the proposal.

Chandigarh team visits Ujjain, see floral waste and bio-methanation plants

Chandigarh, September 11:- A team of councillors of Chandigarh Municipal Corporation led by Smt. Sarbjit Kaur Dhillon, Mayor and accompanied by Senior Deputy Mayor, Deputy Mayor and 21 councillors today visited the “Pushpkunj” floral waste plant and Bio-methanation Plant at Ujjain, MP.

The Chandigarh team was welcomed by city Mayor Sh. Mukesh Tatwal who briefed them about the best practices at Ujjain city including bio-methanation plant having capacity of 5TPD which generates 300 units/day electricity and 1.5 TPD compost per day. He said that all the major mandies and societies of the city are geo mapped and connected to the ICCC. The plant utilizes biodegradable waste, mostly from the nearby vegetable market and the adjacent colonies and converts them into biogas and be run through gas generators to produce electricity.

While explaining about the floral waste plant, the Mayor of Ujjain briefed the Chandigarh team that having capacity of 3 TPD with merely Rs. 18 lakh investment, the plant had started in 2019 which is having manpower of 11 employees generating revenue of 1.5 lacs monthly. He said that the huge quantities of this floral waste generated every day in the temple town Ujjain had earlier posed significant challenges of disposal for authorities but with the support of Mahakal Mandir Samiti the floral waste is now being processed and ‘incense sticks’ and herbal color are being produced.

The Chandigarh team led by the Mayor appreciated the projects and expressed that possibilities will be explored to replicate the same at Chandigarh also.
