11th India International Psychological Science Congress-IIPSC-22

Organized by Department of psychology, Panjab University, Chandigarh in association with National Association of Psychological Science (NAPS),  Department of psychology, Saurashtra University, Rajkot, GUJRAT, South Association Asian of Psychologists-Dhaka, EQ4Peace-USA. The conference was organized in hybrid mode and more than 250 research papers have been received.

The theme of the conference is Psychosocial Rehabilitation; Reflecting Well Being across the culture. Dr. Roshan Lal, Chairperson Department of psychology, panjab University, Chandigarh welcomed the chief guests, invited speakers/resource persons and delegates joined across the country and abroad.

Prof. Yajvender Pal Verma, Registrar, Panjab University, Chandigarh ha s inaugurated the conference and delivered an inaugural address, said the after COVID-19 Psychosocial Rehabilitation has become a big issue and the role of psychologists is well demanded as per the need of the hours. Further said that its not area or country specific rather it’s a global issue becoming very alarming particularly for India.

Dr. Sanjeev Sahani, Director Principal o behavioral Science,  Jindal Global University, Sonepat has delivered a Keynote address virtually from Florida-USA. He shared the threatening issues in case of India and said the number of qualified psychologists in India is very minimum while as per the size of population our country. Also enlightened the audience  with WHO data foe depression and other psychological issues across the culture. He focused in term of lay men in India that majority of people in India.

Prof. Radhey Shyam general Secretary-NAPS introduced the theme of the conference and said the theme is very relevant as per the social crises going on in society with mental agony.

Prof. H.K. Chhabra expressed the vote of thanks to the Vice Chancellor of Panjab University for giving the permission for holding such a big event in the campus. Further thanked to the Chief guests, key note speaker of the day along with other resource persons, delegates and department staff too.

Prof. N..S Tung form GNDU-Amritsar has chaired the panel discussion consisting of experts, like Prof Novrattan Sharma, Prof. Naved Iqbal, Prof. SN Ghosh, Prof. Sangita Trama. All the invited speakers highlighted the contemporary perspectives of Psycho-social roots of well being in reference to India and abroad.

Two virtual workshops were conducted by Prof. Afsheen Masood from The University of Punjab-Lahore-pakistan on the topic Autism and Dr. Smith Ray, Adjunct prof from The Chicago Institute of REBT-USA and Mr. Matt from EQ4Peace-USA and has given very technical and relevant tips to the audience on various perspectives of Emotional issues.

PROF. S N Ghosh has presented the concluding report of two days related to the dissemination held among the experts and delegates. Further shared that next event of psychological science congress will be launched in January-2023 for 12th IIPSC. 

Prof. Yogesh Jogsan from Saurashtra University, Rajkot-Gujrat has chaired the scientific sessions and encouraged the young scholars to come forward to support in helping the humanity for their psycho-social rehabilitation. We the Indians need extensive psychosocial support to stay mentally fit.

Orientation Programme for Masters students at UIFT: Fun filled and Informative Lectures and Workshops

On October 3, 2022, the University Institute of Fashion Technology and Vocational Development hosted an orientation programme for the students of M.Sc. batch 2022–2024 . Students were enthusiastic on their first day. They were warmly welcomed by the Dr Anu H. Gupta, Chairperson, UIFT & VD along with other faculty members and scholars of the department. 

Dr. Jayanti Dutta, Deputy Director, Human Resource Development Centre, Panjab University Chandigarh, gave a very creative and engaging talk entitled “Fun in Research” to kick off the orientation. She demonstrated to the students how engaging and original research can be. She also exhorted students to think creatively and unconventionally. According to her, “Research can made easier if we only don’t notice things but observe it.” . She added ‘ we have been doing research in our day to day life on small things and it’s fun in a way’. She used the word “fun” in reference to research quite well. Students were motivated after learning a new way of doing it.

A workshop on “Creative Thinking” by Ms. Gargi, Guest faculty, UIFT & VD, was taken up in the next session. She explained the importance of creativity in the field of design with a help of the activity of brain storming the name of fashion brands. She stated ‘ creativity generates trends. Layman follows it and designers make it’. She also explained the importance of colour theory in that activity. She described the psychology behind choosing colours for different brands and how to layout a business plan to start and venture.The workshop saw significant participation from the students.

Further, Dr. Ramandeep Sodhi, a guest faculty at UIFT & VD, delivered a second lecture on “The Art and Technicalities of Visual Merchandising.”  This facilitated the learners’ understanding of the concept and significance of display windows. Additionally, she covered the components and significance of visual merchandising.

The final workshop on “Writing A Blog” by Ms. Harleen, Guest faculty UIFT & VD, concluded the orientation programme. She discussed ways and methods of writing a blog which students were very interested in it since content writing has become a full grown profession. Students interacted very actively in this workshop.

The orientation programme came to a successful conclusion with lots of photos and best wishes for their upcoming session.

Mahatma Gandhi’s Philosophy and teachings transcend Nations and Generations

Mahatma Gandhi has been one of the greatest visionaries born. Today, the path and means used by Mahatma Gandhi have become more relevant not just in India, but globally as the mankind grapples with seemingly intractable problems. These were the views of Prof B K Kuthiala, Chairman, Haryana State Higher Education Council who was delivering an expository talk on “Learnings From the Life of Mohandas Karachand Gandhi”. Prof Kuthiala, in his imitable style, opined that in spearheading the campaign against the alien rule, Gandhiji adopted the innovative method of civil disobedience and social transformation, which had several exemplary features which will remain perpetually relevant for mankind. Gandhi ji was proud of India’s ancient heritage and, as such, he was acutely conscious of the glaring contrast presented by contemporary society. Tracing his childhood, Prof Kuthiala enumerated on numerous influences of his family and neighbourhood in shaping his personality. Gandhi ji’s inspirational words and philosophies attracted people in an instant and motivated them to live their lives based on his strong principles. Gandhi’s memoirs have been appreciated as one of the most influential, encouraging and heartening memories ever. 

Presiding over the session, Prof Raj Kumar, Vice Chancellor, Panjab University highlighted that Mahatma Gandhi helped bring out the inner strength of people and inspired them with his philosophy, the main pillars of which were non-violence, tolerance of others, respect for all religions and a simple life. Mahatma Gandhi is remembered for his passionate adherence to the practice of non-violence and his supreme humanism, in every corner of the world as this approach can help transform the societies. Gandhi ji developed a strong emotional connect with people by understanding their needs. Everyone considered Gandhi as their own whether they be socialist, communist, revolutionaries or moderates.

The event was organised by the Department of Gandhian and Peace Studies in collaboration with Department of Alumni Relations, Interdisciplinary Centre for Swami Vivekananda Studies as a part of week long celebrations of the Jayanti of Mahatma Gandhi from 27th September, 2022 to 2nd October, 2022.

Welcoming the dignitaries, Dr. Manish Sharma, Chairperson of the Department introduced the topic and speakers and other invited guests. He shared that week long celebrations included special lecture by Dr. Maneshwar Singh Kondal on “Gandhian Concept of Brotherhood through the Art of Photography” on September 27, 2022. On 29th September, 2022 on the spot painting competition of the school children attracted 49 students from different schools of Chandigarh. On 30th September, Inter College/P.U. students Competition on the Autobiography (Mahatma Gandhi) had active participation of 17 different colleges/department. On 30th September, cleanliness drive under the ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan’ was also organized in which the area around Gandhi Bhawan, pool area was cleaned by the active participation of faculty members and students. Exhibition of rare postal stamps related to Gandhi ji and freedom struggle was also held on 30th September, 2022

Professor Anupama Sharma, Dean, Alumni Relations, Panjab University, Chandigarh proposed the vote of thanks.

On this occasion Best Mali Award for the year 2022 awarded to Sh. Raja Ram S/o Sh. Khandari Ram, the prize includes a cash award of Rs. 2100/- with certificate.

University Institute of Applied Management Sciences, Panjab University, Chandigarh successfully organized a webinar on Understanding Startups and Entrepreneurship with an intention to encourage entrepreneurship amongst students. The key speaker was Ms. Ekta Jain Founder, Happy Blues, Alumni of UIAMS Batch 2017-19. Prof. Raj Kumar, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Panjab University was the patron of the webinar. Ms. Ekta Jain shared her journey that how she launched her startup ‘Happy blues’. She said that the journey was not easy as she had to struggle a lot. The key points were building ecommerce brand, choice of products, technology back up and softwares decisions for accounting, marketing activities. She also discussed positives and negatives of use of market places. She said initially margins are not important as a startup has to build its brand. Margins do fall once you establish yourself. Sometimes you end up spending out of pocket even when you use market places. She discussed about various ways in which a person can start an e-commerce business without any investment. She suggested students that while going for the product services one should always choose that product/ service of your own interest. She also talked about her experience with shopify and told the benefits of using shopify. A doubt clearing question-answer session marked as the last activity of the webinar and it was concluded with a vote of thanks. Prof. Monika Aggarwal, Director, UIAMS said that UIAMS is so proud of its entrepreneur Alumnus as the need of the hour is to motivate students to have their own startups and become job providers.  The event was coordinated by members of Entrepreneur and Corporate Relation Cell of UIAMS Mayakshi, President ECRC,Rhythm kumar Singhal, Vice- President, ECRC, Tamanna, Vice-President, ECRC, Dr.Anjali Sachdeva, ECRC Coordinator and Yajat Loomba, Senior Executive, ECRC, Akanksha, Senior Executive, ECRC under the guidance of esteemed Faculty Coordinator Dr. Manu Sharma, Assistant Professor, UIAMS.

MCC moves towards declaring its office building at sector 17 ‘Zero Waste Campus’

Chandigarh, October 3:- The Municipal Corporation Chandigarh declared its office building at sector 17 ‘Zero Waste Campus’. Smt. Sarbjit Kaur, Mayor and Ms. Anindita Mitra, IAS, Commissioner, MCC checked all the arrangements of collection of waste and its scientific disposal at the office premises, today. 


While explaining about the initiative, Smt. Sarbjit Kaur, Mayor said that provisions have been made at floor level to collect stationery waste i.e. paper and other items; red colored bins for sanitary waste collection have been provided at each toilet block of ladies at every floor; wet waste composter in canteen at fifth floor. While e-waste container and old cloth container have been provided at ground floor besides providing big composter for green waste in the lawn of the office compound.


She said that hazardous waste will be disposed of scientifically by an NGO engaged with the MCC to collect the e-waste once in a week. Similarly old cloths will be collected by Self Help Groups for further disposal in making cloth bags and other items. She further said that wet west generated from kitchen at canteen will be processed in a wet waste composter having capacity of 25 Kg per day. The Mayor said that sanitary waste will be collected in red coloured bins from the ladies toilet blocks, which will be further disposed off scientifically. She said that officers concerned have been asked to install shredders to manage sanitary waste in the ladies toilets.


The Mayor said that dry waste i.e. dry leaves and horticulture waste will be dumped in a composter at the lawn inside the office compound, the manure will be used in flower beds and flower pots inside the office compound. She said that all other buildings of MCC will be made ‘Zero Waste Campus’ very soon.

Mayor dedicates Amrit Sarovar to public at village Sarangpur

2nd pond rejuvenated by MCC under ‘Amrit Sarovar Mission’

Chandigarh, October 3:- Smt. Sarbjit Kaur, Mayor, Chandigarh today dedicated second rejuvenated ‘Amrit Sarovar’ of Chandigarh at Sarangpur village as part of the ‘Amrit Sarovar Mission’ aimed at the conservation of water.

Ms. Anindita Mitra, IAS, Commissioner, Sh. Dalip Sharma, Senior Deputy Mayor, Sh. Anup Gupta, Deputy Mayor, Sh. Ram Chander Yadav, area councillor and prominent persons of local area were present during the occasion.

While speaking on the occasion, the Mayor said that Hon’ble Prime Minister of India had launched the Mission aimed at developing and rejuvenating 75 water bodies in each district of the country as a part of celebration of ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav’  and the target to complete the work has been fixed as 15th August, 2023.

She further said that the Municipal Corporation under this mission planned to rejuvenate 3 abandoned Water Bodies at Village Kaimbwala, Sarangpur and Khuda Alisher. The water body at village Kaimbwala had already rejuvenated and dedicated to public on 15th August 2022 and the work on rejuvenation of third water body at village Khuda Alisher is in progress and shall be completed by the end of this month.

The Mayor said that the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh has further planned to rejuvenate 4th Water Body at  Dadumajra Village and the work will be completed before 15th August 2023. The Municipal Corporation will also hoist the flag next year on the water body at Sarovar in Dadumajra Village on 15th August 2023.

She said that this water body is spread on area about 0.75 Acre and have capacity of holding water of 6000Cum. This water body was completely abandoned and lot of vegetation/jungle was grown up when it was transferred to Municipal Corporation Chandigarh in 2019.  The MCC has spent around Rs.30 Lakh rejuvenate this water body. The walls of water body, Lights, Hut for residents, Benches, Path way around the water body has been provided for the public. This water body will also raise the depleted ground water level and avoid flooding in village in addition to conserve the water. This will act as a mini Lake for the residents of the village. It is the duty of villagers now to keep it neat and clean.

CRIKC-Igniting Young Minds organizes a motivational session by a successful Start-up founder

CRIKC-Igniting Young Minds, an initiative for nurturing Scientific Temper through social outreach for school students, and Institution’s Innovation Council, Panjab University, Chandigarh, organised a talk on the theme ‘My Story: a motivational session by a successful Start-up founder’ at Govt. Model High School, Sector 22C, Chandigarh.

The speakers of the day were Er. Sahil and Er. Gokul Chawla, Directors, Deframers Solar Pvt. Ltd., Mohali,and Alumni of UIET, Panjab University, who shared their inspiring journey from being students to enterprising professionals. They highlighted the need to think out of the box, stay focused, never give up, start small and seek mentorship. The school students showed keen interest and interacted profusely with the young entrepreneurs by sharing their own creative ideas.

Dr Jaspreet Kaur, Incharge-CRIKC Igniting Young Minds, Department of Botany, Dr Gaurav Sapra, UIET, and Dr Rajesh Kumar, UIET, Panjab University, motivated the students to get inspired from the success story of these young start-up founders and encouraged the school students to observe the surroundings keenly, look for problems and try to find simple solutions.

Mr Subhash Chand Aggarwal, President, Bhartiya Vikas Parishad, Chandigarh graced the occasion. Mrs Anuradha Gupta, Headmistress, GMHS, Sec-22C, proposed a vote of thanks.
