Chandigarh, March 5:- In an unique initiative, Municipal Corporation Chandigarh today celebrated Holi and International Women’s Day at Mahila Bhavan, with its female employees. Door to Door Garbage Collectors, B&R wing workers, Safai Mitras and Toilet Cleaners were made Guests of Honor for the event. It was heartening to hear them share their stories of courage and struggle from the stage. 

Women from several walks of life like Principals of schools, NGOs and SHGs also participated in the event. 

Several women workers were felicitated for their good work and dedication to the Swacch Bharat Mission, by Mayor Sh Anup Gupta. 

Women Employees presented a skit on segregation of waste and MC employees performed gidda while girls from SHGs did a fashion show. 

Municipal Corporation Chandigarh also introduced the concept of Swacch Holi where all the colors used were made of floral waste from temples. 

The event was attend by Sh Anup Gupta Mayor, Chandigarh, Smt Anindita Mitra IAS, Commissioner, Municipal Corporation, Councillors and Officers of Municipal Corporation.

After the inaugural session, four Parallel panel discussions took place at different venues.  The first session took place in the Law Auditorium focusing on the theme of “Future of work: Industry 4.0, Innovation & 21 Century”. Eminent speakers of the session were Prof. Manu Sharma,Faculty in Mechanical Engineering branch of UIET, Punjab University; Prof Douglas Lecorchick Professor of Education (STEM), Fairmont University, North Carolina; Dr Srikar Vulli, highly experienced Wind Turbine Specialist R&D Engineer; Dr Chamkour Athwal, Faculty of Computing, Engineering and the Built Environmental at Birmingham City University;and Mr Shashank Chitlangiri, a  multi-disciplinary technology development professional with a focus on solution architecture, systems design, and vertical integration.

The second session was held at the Moot Court Hall was on the theme “Shared Future: Youth in Democracy and Governance”. The key speakers were: Prof. Jyoti Rattan,Professor of Law, Panjab University; Sh. Anup Gupta, Mayor, Chandigarh; Dr. Jasleen kaur, Assistant Professor (Law), Panjab University; Prachi Hajela, Awarded as one of the 100 most influential women of India in Academician Category by Indian Bar Association, 2019;  Kshitiz Goel, Advocate; Mr Roshan Mittal and Mr Lakshit Mittal.

The third session was held at UBS Conference Hall on the theme “Shared Future: Youth in Democracy and Governance” with eminent speakers including Dr. Sanjeev Prashar, Krishan Kahna, Rajeev Sakuja,  Amar Vivek,  Mirlan Sethi , Robert York.

The fourth session was conducted at Seminar Hall, Department of Political Science with eminent speakers like Prof. Ashutosh Kumar, Dr Utsav Kumar Singh, Dr. Basant Kumar,  Adv. Arjun Sheoran,  Jiten Kumar,  Sachin Gupta, Dr Ritu Khosla, and Dr Khushboo Mahajan.

In the post lunch technical sessions, various speakers were: Prof Devinder Singh; Amit Sharma, Dr Balwinder Kaur, Dr Madhumita Kothari, Varun Chacchar, Pranav Chamoli and Gautam Bhardwaj.

Valedictory Session

The valedictory session started with an address by Sh. Kartikeya Sharma, Member of Rajya Sabha. He talked about how India is moving in the right direction, and the several steps that are being taken to take the youth of the country in the right direction.Kartikeya Sharma also discussed about how India has moulded different identity on the world map. He asserted that “Unlike the last 3 revolutions in which the mindset of slavery was seen and tolerated, India is now moving forward with a future in mind, in which the Prime Minister’s DESI formula is contributing the most.” He explained, “D- digital;E-entrepreneurships; S-skill development and I- innovation and India first”.

Sh. Vijay Sampla,  Chairman of National Commission on Scheduled Castes engaged the audience through his interactive session. On a personal note, he shared that he never went to college himself but he learnt a lot after becoming the Chairman of the commission and through his various college visits as a guest where he had first hand interaction with the youth of the country.

Hon’ble Justice Vinod Bhardwaj, Punjab and Haryana High Court in his presidential remark addressing the students stated “question yourself and do constructive criticism not for the sake of criticism but for further improvement”.

Prof. Devinder SinghPanjab University extended a heartfelt vote of thanks to the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports for their cooperation. He extended his thanks to over 200 affiliated colleges, regional centres, and departments of Panjab University for their participation and enthusiasm.

UIET reverberated with the echoes of Goonj on its first day

Chandigarh March 3, 2023

The long awaited annual techno-cultural fest of UIET finally showed the blissful colors hidden in its abode on its first day i.e. 2nd of March. The day started with the mini marathon in which many enthusiastic participants joined the race from north to south campus. Then the opening ceremony was conducted in which many renowned personalities shared their words of wisdom. Director of UIET prof. J.K. Goswamy, Goonj coordinator Dr. Shankar Sehgal and Vice Chancellor of Panjab University Dr. Renu Vig was there to motivate the students. A speaker session was also conducted for students to inculcate some knowledge among the students. Rest games like virtual stock market, rat in the maze, photography competition, reel making competition, valorant, IPL auction and many sports events were also conducted.

The evening was really exhilarating as there were many cultural performances and competitions namely nukkad natak competition, cultural band performance, talent show, bhangra group competition and Euphoria band performance. This all made the day for UIET students and visitors. The fest is going really in high spirits and we hope to experience the same in the upcoming two days.

About GOONJ : Goonj is the annual cultural festival of UIET, Panjab University, Chandigarh. It is a platform for students to showcase their talents and showcase the cultural diversity of the institution. The festival is eagerly awaited by students and staff alike and is a much-needed break from the rigors of academic life. Goonj is a celebration of art, music, dance, and culture, and it brings together students from different backgrounds and cultures to create a truly vibrant and inclusive environment. The festival is organized by a team of dedicated students and is supported by the faculty and staff of UIET. The festival is an opportunity for students to showcase their talents, network with peers and industry professionals, and create lifelong memories.

On the occasion of its annual day event, Panjab University’s Sanskrit department organised inter-university competitions. Dr. Dinesh Shastri, director of the Haryana Sanskrit Academy was the chief guest of the occasion. Prof. Jagadish Prasad Semwal, former chairperson of the VVBIS&IS, Sadhu Ashram, Hoshiarpur, was the convener. Sanskrit essay writing competition, Sanskrit declamation competition and Sanskrit singing competition were organised at the event, in which 55 students from many PU affiliated colleges participated. Judges were Dr. Devi Singh, chairperson of Sanskrit department GGDSD college, Dr. Chandan Lal Gupta, PGGCG 11, and Dr. Satyan Sharma, guest faculty Sanskrit department, PU. Under the direction of Prof. Renu Vig, DUI and chairperson of Sanskrit department and Prof. V. K. Alankar, Academic Incharge of the department, the topics for Sanskrit declamation were centred on Maharshi Dayanand Saraswati’s life and philosophy. Prof. Alankar told, “our department has been organising various events to commemorate Maharshi Dayanand Saraswati’s 200th birth anniversary, and so is this event where we have chosen certain topics which are centred on Maharshi’s life and philosophy, through which participants will get to know about his life and be inspired.” Dr. Dinesh Sharma enlightened the audience about the achievements of Haryana Sanskrit Academy and encouraged participants to converse in Sanskrit. F&CC approves appointment various developmental agendas including upgradation of flooring infront of market/showrooms at sector 21

Chandigarh, March 03:- The Finance and Contract committee of Municipal Corporation Chandigarh has approved various developmental agenda items including up-gradation of the flooring infront of market/showrooms at Sector 21 C&D, Chandigarh at an estimated cost of Rs. 43.82 lacs. This was decided in a meeting of F&CC held here today under the Chairmanship of Sh. Anup Gupta, Mayor attended by Ms. Anindita Mitra, IAS, Commissioner, MCC and other members of committee namely Sh. Dalip Sharma, Sh. Gurpreet Singh, Smt. Harpreet Kaur Babla, Ms. Neha, Smt. Prem Lata and other senior officers of MCC were also present during the meeting.

The members of committee discussed other various important agenda items in detail and accorded approval for the following:

·         Providing and fixing of M.S. Railing including repair of broken railing onV-3 road in between Sector 31 & 32 (Sector 32 side), Chandigarh at an estimated cost of Rs. 01.84 lacs.

·         Providing and fixing of pipe benches in various parks/green belts of Sector -41, Chandigarh at an estimated cost of Rs. 4.00 lacs.

·         Providing and fixing  of pipe benches in various parks/green belts/gardens of Sector 36 & 42, Chandigarh at an estimated cost of Rs. 19.31 lacs.

·         Providing high electric pole in front of House No. 691, Dhobi Ghat, High Mast lighting in green belt back side of Dhobi Ghat, Sector 7A, 4.5 mtr poles in green belt high mast lighting and LED globe lights in place of defective bollards, Sector 7 and augmentation of garden lights in green belt near #139-40, Sector 8-A, Chandigarh at an estimated cost of Rs. 36.87 lacs.

·         Strengthening of Sewerage System by providing and laying new 450mm (18”) i/d RCC NP-3 Sewer Line and Construction of machine hole chambers on back lane of SCOs, Sector 30 C, Chandigarh at an estimated cost of Rs. 30.80

·         Special Repair/Renovation of Fire Station building & Residential Quarters in Industrial area, Ph-1, Chandigarh at an estimated cost of Rs. 40.67 lacs

·         Special repair of community centre Vikas Nagar (Small) Mauli Jagran, Chandigarh at an estimated cost of Rs. 04.25 lacs

·         Shifting/Replacement  of 8” i/d old C.I. pipe line with 8” i/d pipe line road portion to berm Near Light point main road Dhanas, Chandigarh at an estimated cost of Rs. 20.24 lacs.

·         Providing and fixing of new paver block/repair of existing paver blocks in backside parking of Punjab Kesari in Sector 25, Chandigarh at an estimated cost of Rs. 14.20 lacs

·         Providing and supplying of Electronic Goods for Community Centre in Sector 11, Chandigarh at an estimated cost of Rs. 2.44 lacs.

·         Providing and laying of 600 mm (24”), 450mm (18”) i/d and 300mm (12”) i/d RCC pipes and construction of new road gullies for smooth flow of storm water drainage network backside to Gugamadi, Satguru bookshop to Govt. School, #1606 to labour chowk and booth no. 1892 to palm park, Dadumajra Colony, Chandigarh at an estimated cost of Rs. 49.23 lacs.

·         Strengthening of Sewerage network by providing and laying additional 300 mm (12”) i/d sewer line near Meat Market to Baba Dairy, Sector 21, Chandigarh at an estimated cost of Rs. 21.57 lacs.

·         Repair of existing paver block around various park in sector 46 A& D, Chandigarh at an estimated cost of Rs. 37.48 lacs.

·         The committee accorded approval for the sale of bio fuel briquettes being manufactured at Horticulture Waste Processing Plant, 3BRD, Chandigarh.

·         Re-construction of footpath around park in front of house no. 85 – 90, Sector 51-A, Chandigarh at an estimated cost of Rs. 1.97 lacs.

·         Extension of lease period of Shops of Village Badheri, Buterla & Burail, U.T., Chandigarh w.e.f. 06.04.2022 to 05.04.2027 with 25% onetime increase and 5% annual increase from next year.

चंडीगढ़, 2 मार्च ( )- दृष्टि पंजाब कनाडा द्वारा आयोजित 12वें कार्यक्रम के दौरान पंजाब के सरकारी स्कूलों में पढ़ने वाले 19 विद्यार्थियों को आर्थिक सहायता दी गई, जो मेरिट में आए थे। दृष्टि पंजाब कनाडा पिछले 12 वर्षों से पंजाब में शिक्षा और पर्यावरण के क्षेत्र में लगन से काम कर रहा है और विशेष रूप से सरकारी स्कूलों में पढ़ने वाले बच्चों को अवसर प्रदान करने का प्रयास कर रहा है। यह सामाजिक कार्यकर्ताओं का एक समूह है। इसके मुख्य संचालकों में कनाडा वासी हरमिंदर सिंह ढिल्लों, जसवीर सिंह और मुनीश शर्मा के नाम शामिल हैं। दृष्टि पंजाब ने सीमावर्ती जिलों के सरकारी स्कूलों में लगभग 50 कंप्यूटर वितरित किए।

पंजाब विधानसभा के स्पीकर कुलतार सिंह संधावा चंडीगढ़ प्रेस क्लब में दृष्टि पंजाब द्वारा आयोजित कार्यक्रम में बतौर मुख्य अतिथि पहुंचे। दृष्टि पंजाब ने छात्रों को पचास हजार रुपये की सहायता राशि दी। स्पीकर कुलतार सिंह संधावा ने अपने संबोधन में दृष्टि पंजाब को इस पहल के लिए बधाई देते हुए कहा कि प्रवासी पंजाबियों ने हमेशा पंजाब के बहुमुखी विकास में अहम योगदान दिया है। उन्होंने कहा कि यह शुभ संकेत है कि पंजाब के अप्रवासी अब शिक्षा और पर्यावरण के क्षेत्र में अधिक ध्यान दे रहे हैं। उन्होंने कहा कि पंजाब के मुख्यमंत्री भगवंत सिंह मान की सरकार शिक्षा के क्षेत्र में अभिनव कार्य कर रही है। यह आप की दिल्ली सरकार ने भी दिखाया है।उन्होंने कहा कि पंजाब के मुख्यमंत्री प्रवासी पंजाबियों की समस्याओं से अच्छी तरह वाकिफ हैं और उनके समाधान के लिए प्रयासरत हैं।

कुलतार सिंह संधवां ने दृष्टि पंजाब की टीम को बधाई देते हुए कहा कि इस संस्था द्वारा उनके पंजाब के लिए किए जा रहे कार्य इस बात की मिसाल है कि पंजाबी लोग दुनिया के किसी भी कोने में रहते हुए भी अपनी जमीन से मोह नहीं छोड़ते। उन्होंने कहा कि पंजाब सरकार दृष्टि पंजाब सहित अन्य सामाजिक सेवा संगठनों को हर संभव सहायता प्रदान करेगी।

मुनीश शर्मा ने कहा कि दृष्टि पंजाब सरकारी स्कूलों में पढ़ने वाले उन प्रतिभावान बच्चों की मदद के लिए आगे आए जिनके पास संसाधनों की कमी है। उन्होंने कहा कि दृष्टि पंजाब टीम राज्य में बहुत लगन से काम कर रही है।वक्ताओं ने विद्यार्थियों से अपील की कि वे बड़े मुकाम हासिल कर समाज के पिछड़े वर्ग के लोगों की मदद करें।

Mayor visits cremation ground, children burial ground, Christian cemetery and Muslim graveyard

Chandigarh, March 2:- Sh. Anup Gupta, Mayor, Chandigarh today visited cremation ground, children burial ground, Christian cemetery and Muslim graveyard at sector 25, here today. He was accompanied by area councilor Smt. Poonam, Sh. Anil Masih, councilor, prominent persons of city and concerned officers of MCC.

During the visit at cremation ground the Mayor asked the concerned officers to check the drinking water supply and rectify the same at earliest. He asked the officers to keep clean the water cooler area; repair and replacement of fans and electricity fittings; repair and replacement of benches, cleaning of all compound twice a day; malba scattered in open space inside the compound be removed and area be proper landscaped; timely pruning of trees; repair and replacement of electricity points in toilet block area; leaking water taps be repaired/replaced; road gullies be cleaned properly; broken tiles be repaired/replaced and wherever required repair works of walls & roofs and whitewash of the buildings etc.

The Mayor and team of officers also visited children burial ground. The Mayor asked the concerned officers to clean the area properly and low line area be leveled with putting additional soil. He asked them for pruning of trees and repair the fencing wherever required. He asked the Sanitation staff to lift the broken garbage bins from the parking area.

The Mayor also visited Gaushala nearby the cremation ground and asked the concerned officers for properly lifting of cowdung from the internal compound and ensure proper disposal of the leftout of cowdung technically as per the Municipal Solid Waste rules.

The Mayor also visited nearby Christian cemetery and instructed the concerned officers to repair and maintain the toilet blocks besides ensuring regular cleaning arrangements of the area. He asked them for provision of temporary sheds and leveling of open area wherever required. He asked the concerned officers for provision of public toilets near the sitting area besides providing lights and high mast light inside the compound.

The Mayor further visited Muslim graveyard and instructed the concerned officers to arrange the electricity cables properly, which hanged in trees and boundary walls. He asked the engineers to repair and replace the tin shed wherever required at the earliest besides provision of widening the entry gate to the Muslim graveyard.

Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has extended the last date for online admission to Masters, Bachelors, PG Diploma, Diploma and Certificate programs and online Re-registration of all Masters and Bachelors programs for the session January, 2023 session till March 10, 2023. Dr. Bhanu Pratap Singh, Regional Director of IGNOU Regional Center Chandigarh informed that interested applicants can apply through online link for admission to any Masters, Bachelors, PG Diploma, Diploma and Certificate programs of their choice: https://ignouadmission.samarth.edu.in/ which is available on IGNOU website www.ignou.ac.in.

SC/ST students will be admitted without charging any fee in some of the Certificate/Diploma/PG Diploma & Graduate Programmes and they will have to apply online and to upload all necessary documents for fee exemption. During this repair there will be low water supply during evening time in the city Chandigarh. The schedule of water supply will be as under:

Morning: 3.30 am to 9.00 am (Normal Water Supply)

Evening: 6:00 pm to 8.00 pm (Water Supply at Low Pressure)

Note:- There will be no evening water supply to Sector 44, 45, 48 to 56, 61, 63 & partial water supply to Water Works Sector 32, Chandigarh.

Webinar on Union Budget 2023: Urban Development, Sanitation and Urban Planning Strategies for Implementation

Chandigarh, March 1:- Sh. Anup Gupta, Mayor, Chandigarh today represented the city’s citizen centric awareness and engagement ecosystem during a webinar on implementation strategies based on various Budget announcements for FY 2023-2024.

The intent of this webinar was to seek feedback from various stakeholders on strategies to overcome challenges, improve implementation strategies, ideate on nuances to formulate frameworks on various new announcements etc.

Towards this, the webinar was organized on the subject of “Urban Planning, Development and Sanitation” led by MoHUA and MoEF&CC. The inaugural session was graced by the Hon’ble Prime Minister. Thereafter, based on the budget announcements, four thematic Breakout Sessions were namely Waste to Wealth, SafaiMitra Suraksha (Manhole to Machine hole), Urban Planning Reforms & Action and Urban Infrastructure and Development Fund.

While representing from Chandigarh during breakout session Waste to Wealth, the Mayor briefed regarding segregation at source, on-site wet waste composting, promotion of zero waste events, management of horticulture waste and floral waste, mobilization of college and school students to form human chain during Indian swachhta league, launch of ‘Har gadi bin – har gadi bag’ campaign, initiative of market welfare association to offer discount to its customers who comes with own shopping bag.

Initiatives taken by Chandigarh city were very much appreciated by the session moderator Smt. Leena Nandan, Secretary, MoEFCC, GOI.
