*Chandigarh, September 22:-* Reaffirming its unwavering commitment to the welfare of Safaimitras and their families, the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh has organised a four day Safaimitra Suraksha Shivir recognising and supporting its Safaimitras.

Sh. Anup Gupta, Mayor, Chandigarh inaugurated the event organised under the “Swachhata Pakhwada – Swachhata hi Seva” campaign at Mahila Bhawan, Sector 38, today in the presence of Ms. Anindita Mitra, IAS, Commissioner, MCC and other prominent persons of city.

On the opening day of the camp, total 940 Safaimitras registered at the camp . A large number of safaimitras have been enrolled for Pardhan Mantri Suraksha Beema Yojna (PMSBY) and Atal Pension Yojna (APY). During the camp, 28 safaimitras were identified as eligible under the Ayushman Bharat Scheme and were enrolled. Several family members of safaimitras opened new bank accounts and availed the in built insurance. 

Mayor Anup Gupta expressed his gratitude and highlighted the significance of the Safaimitra Suraksha Shivir,  while lauding the selfless service of Safaimitras who ensure cleanliness and hygiene of the city beautiful.

Municipal Commissioner Ms. Anindita Mitra added that the Safaimitra Shivir reaffirms the commitment of MCC to the welfare of these unsung heroes. Through this initiative, the MCC aim to create an environment where they feel valued, supported, and recognized for their invaluable contribution to their city.”

The inauguration ceremony was filled with joy and camaraderie as Mayor Anup Gupta and Commissioner Anindita Mitra extended their best wishes to all Safaimitras and their families present at the event. The Safaimitra Shivir served as a platform to celebrate their hard work, dedication, and resilience in keeping Chandigarh clean and beautiful.

The MCC has set up counters at the Safaimitra Shivir to provide essential supplies and support to all Safaimitras. These counters are fully equipped with Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) kits, gloves, masks, uniforms, Jaggery, Oil, and Soap kits, reflecting MC Chandigarh’s commitment to ensuring their safety and wellbeing.

The Safaimitra Shivir marks the beginning of a four-day Mega Safai Mitra Shivir, which includes various activities.

To further enhance the Safaimitra Shivir, a special Rupee Store has also been established at the Mahila Bhawan, filled with a wide range of items sourced from the RRR centre. With the aim of supporting Safaimitras and their families, each Aadhaar card holder can choose two items from the store. The store offers a diverse selection of products, including books, crockery, toys, shoes, and electronic gadgets. This initiative not only provides affordable access to essential items but also adds an element of joy and convenience to the Safaimitras and their families during their visit to the Shivir.

MCC empowers youth with unprecedented on-field experience during Swachhata Pakhwada – Swachhata Hi Seva*

The visit unfolded as an eye-opening experience for the young participants, providing them a front-row seat to witness the intricacies and innovative methods implemented at the treatment plant. From understanding the process of treating sewage to witnessing the advanced technologies employed to ensure a cleaner and healthier environment, the students were enthralled throughout the educational excursion.

While sharing about the MCC projects visits of the youth, the Municipal Commissioner Ms. Anindita Mitra, IAS, said that education is not limited to textbooks and classrooms, it is vital for the youth to gain practical knowledge and witness firsthand the impact they can have on building a sustainable future. She said by exposing them to real-life scenarios and involving them actively in initiatives such as waste management, we are nurturing a generation of responsible citizens who grasp the significance of environmental preservation.

In addition to the sewage treatment plant visit, the students also had the opportunity to explore the horticulture plant and the C&D plant, further expanding their knowledge on sustainable practices. The highlight of the trip was the awe-inspiring journey to the Waste to Wonder Park in Sector 48, where the enchanting world of recycling was unveiled before their eyes.

The Commissioner said that MCC firmly believes that education goes beyond classrooms, which is why such engaging experiences are organized to provide students with a hands-on understanding of the vital role they play in building a cleaner, greener tomorrow.

Mayor lays foundation stone of sensory park at sector 22 D

*Municipal Corporation committed to welfare of differently abled persons*

*Chandigarh, September 22:-* Taking special care to offer variety of ways of meeting play and leisure needs of children and adults with and without disabilities, the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh is constructing a Sensory Park at Sector 22 D, Chandigarh.

City Mayor Anup Gupta today laid foundation of the park at sector 22 D in the presence of Municipal Commissioner Ms. Anindita Mitra, IAS, Area Councillor Sh. Daman preet Singh and prominent persons of the local area.

While briefing about the park, the Mayor said that the idea of sensory park focuses on engaging and enhancing multiple senses and abilities of individual like sight, taste, smell, touch, hearing, mobility and motor skills and intellectual skill etc. The park also offers variety of ways of meeting, play and leisure needs of children with and without disabilities.

He said that the project titled “Sensory Park” will be developed at 0.65 acre area at estimated cost of Rs. 124.54 Lacs.

The play area proposed to have rubber flooring which enhances the safety of children. For visually impaired individual, tactile cement concrete tactile pavers will be used which serves as directional indicators.

The Mayor further said that the play equipments such as shoulder builder, spring rider, see saw, merry-go-around, swing, leg roller and wheel chair accessible basketball court, all help children work on their big and small muscles, orienting their body in shape and sense of body balance.Various musical equipments such as congo track, drum track, musical panel and polls are also proposed. Interactive railings with steps at various level are also proposed in the park.

He said a hedge maze having labyrinth of pathways with flooring as a reflexology path is also forms the centre of attraction. Various kinds of herbs, shrubs and trees will also be planted. Children are encourage to touch, smell, taste and generally attract with the environment around them. Adequate sitting arrangement for differently abled will also provided.

He said Sensory garden is a wonderful way for children to explore their senses and learn about the environment around them.

The Mayor further said that various type of waste i.e. used tyres, chains, bearings, iron sheets, pipes and other plastic materials have been used to construct Tunnel, Tyre Hut, Dragon tyres, See Saw Spring Rider of tyres, Hill of Tyres, Twist and Turns, Crawling obstacles and other play equipments.   He said that the construction waste from C&D Waste Processing Plant  has been  used to  make  Snakes & Ladder game for children and  the bricks  made out  of C&D waste have been used for construction of sitting benches, entry of the park and toe wall construction. He said that this park has been developed only at a cost of Rs. 7 lacs. The Mayor said that the MCC has constructed 1st Waste to Wonder Park in Sector 48, Chandigarh by using waste metals and C&D Waste material.

Municipal Commissioner Ms. Anindita Mitra, IAS shared about the project, stating that the Waste to Wonder Park highlights the significance of recycling and reuse in minimizing waste. *Chandigarh, September 19:-* Aiming to strengthen the storm water drainage system in low line areas, the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh has started the work of laying storm water drainage system from sector 40 to N-Choe crossing near sector 42, Chandigarh under the “Swachhata hi Sewa” campaign.

City Mayor Sh. Anup Gupta on Tuesday laid the foundation stone for laying of storm water drainage pipeline along vikas marg from sector 40-D to N-Choe near Beant Singh Memorial, sector 42, Chandigarh in the presence of Ms. Anindita Mitra, IAS, Commissioner, Sh. Hardeep Singh Butrela, Mrs. Gurbax Rawat and Sh. Jasbir Singh Bunty, respective area councilors, where the work will be executed.

While speaking on the project, the Mayor said that during monsoon season, storm water gets accumulated in huge quantities near forest area of sector 40-C and at Aayushman Bharat Dispensary in Badheri complex and sector 41-A, Chandigarh due to low lying area of these sectors. During heavy rains, the existing 72” CBD along Vikas Marg from Sector 40-D; sector 41-D to N-choe near Beant Singh Memorial, sector 42, Chandigarh gets fully pressurized due to huge storm water coming from sector 39,40,41 and sector 42.

He said that the storm water gets accumulated on road and near forest area and the existing storm water drainage system is not capable to drain out the huge quantity of rain water during high intensity rainfall in monsoon period. The area converts into pond during rains and is not serviceable. The residents and general public of this area suffer water logging issue during the rains. He said that the storm water also gets flooded in front of house gates at many places near forest area of sector 40 C and at sector 41-A, Chandigarh.

The Mayor said that after conducting detailed survey by the engineering wing necessary proposal to lay storm water drainage system line along with construction of new machine hole chambers was approved by the General House at estimated cost of Rs. 4.17 crores. He said that the work will be completed within 6 months time period. After the completion of the project, the persistent problem of water logging in these areas during the monsoon season will be solved, added the Mayor.

*Chandigarh, September 17:-* While setting an remarkable example of team work, the Chandigarh Challengers team served Langar to thousands of people despite heavy downpour in the morning.

To mark Sewa Divas, a Zero Waste Mahalangar was organised by Municipal Corporation Chandigarh at Shivalik Garden, Manimajra, today. Due to heavy downpour it became almost impossible to serve langar in the open, and City Mayor Anup Gupta, after taking stock of the situation, directed that the langar be shifted to the nearby Community centres and other locations. 

              Team Chandigarh Challengers rose to the occasion and shifted the arrangements to nearby Community centre & 10 colony areas nearby, instead of one location.

The day witnessed the incredible commitment of Municipal Corporation employees to eliminate food waste and promoting a cleaner, greener future. This inspiring event showcased the power of collective action and highlighted the importance of creating a sustainable society.

The young and dynamic squad of Chandigarh Challenger’s phir showed the power of unity and selfless service by serving langar to the community at the Zero Waste Mahalangar.

City Mayor Sh. Anup Gupta and Municipal Commissioner Ms. Anindita Mitra, IAS led the team and served langar to citizens at the Zero Waste Mahalangar.

 While speaking on the occasion, the Mayor appreciated the efforts of the team Chandigarh Challengers and said that Municipal Corporation Chandigarh is committed to creating a clean, green, and sustainable environment for the residents of Chandigarh. Through various initiatives and events like Indian Swachhata League Season 2, the Corporation aims to promote cleanliness, hygiene, and a sense of collective responsibility among citizens.

Exquisite floral decorations adorned the venue, with the flowers later composted in a dedicated pit, embodying a closed-loop system. The Zero Waste Mahalangar exemplified the event’s emphasis on minimizing food wastage, while sustainable cloth and digital backdrops added to the immersive experience, reducing environmental impact.

The Mayor said that ISL Season 2 was a vibrant celebration of unity, cleanliness, and the transformative impact of the Swachhata hi Seva movement. Chandigarh, known for its aesthetic charm and disciplined approach, proudly invited everyone to witness this unique journey firsthand.

He said that the event showcased the commitment and dedication of team Chandigarh Challenger’s-phir se, particularly evident in the preparation of the langar for such a large number of people. MCC organizes “Trash Hunt – Swachhata ke Khiladi” a unique initiative to promote the spirit of Swachhata*

*Chandigarh, September 16:-* Aiming at raising awareness and promoting the spirit of Swachhata among citizens of city beautiful, the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh organized a unique Trash Hunt called “Swacchta Ke Khiladi”.

The Four teams- Blue, Green, Red and Black, symbolizing the four types of waste, were the “Khiladis” .

The “Khiladis” started the Trash Hunt from Sector 19 Community Centre where they solved riddles on Swacchta. Pedalling their way to the Leisure valley, they collected all the scattered waste and found clues which took them to the final destination, the Bird Park.

Once at the Bird Park, they rushed to put together a Swacchta Themed jigsaw puzzle. Finally, the Blue team from PGGC-11 College emerged the winner. 

 The unique activity was flagged off by city Mayor Sh. Anup Gupta and Municipal Commissioner Ms. Anindita Mitra, IAS in the presence of prominent persons of city and all participants at the Community Centre in Sector 19. As a pre-event for the Indian Swachata League – Season 2 Chandigarh Challenger’s-phir se, the Trash Hunt witnessed enthusiastic participation of young individuals passionate about making a difference in their community. 

Mounted on bicycles graciously provided by the Public Bike Sharing Project, the participants embarked on a journey showcasing Chandigarh’s impressive bicycle infrastructure, including well-designed cycle tracks, intersections, and junctions. The Trash Hunt seamlessly blended innovation and Swachhata to inspire and motivate the youth.

While addressing the participants, city Mayor Sh. Anup Gupta expressed his enthusiasm for the Trash Hunt event, and said, “I am thrilled to see the overwhelming participation and enthusiasm of our youth in the Trash Hunt. It is heartening to witness the dedication and commitment of our community towards creating a cleaner and healthier Chandigarh. This event not only brings us together but also reminds us of our collective responsibility to maintain a sustainable environment. Let us continue to work together towards a Swachh and Swasth Chandigarh.”

Chandigarh, September 13:- Municipal Corporation Chandigarh is committed to provide adequate water supply to the residents of Manimajra at the earliest. Therefore as a Pilot Project under Smart City Mission in Manimajra, the 24×7 water supply work has been allotted to M/s SBE Infrastructure CSCL Pvt. Ltd., Jodhpur, Rajasthan and is in progress.

To complete the work at the earliest the competent authority has allowed the agency to work in extended hours/night shifts also. The public is requested to bear with Municipal Corporation Chandigarh for the inconvenience likely to be caused due to the extended hours/night shifts in the interest of the project.

Chandigarh, September 11: – Representing the city of Chandigarh in ISL 2.0, the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh today unveiled the official logo for the highly anticipated second season of the Indian Swachhata League (ISL 2.0), organized under the banner of “Swachhata Hi Sewa “

The logo, unveiled by city Mayor Sh. Anup Gupta and Municipal Commissioner Ms. Anindita Mitra, IAS, in the presence of other Municipal Corporation senior officers, underscores the Corporation’s commitment to cleanliness and the spirit of the Swachhata Hi Sewa.

While speaking about ISL 2.0, the Mayor said that the logo for Chandigarh Challenger’s – Phir se, representing the city of Chandigarh in ISL 2.0, embodies the team’s determination and dedication to fostering a cleaner and greener environment. With its bold colors and striking design elements, the logo symbolizes the team’s unwavering spirit and their pledge to bring about positive change through their participation in the Indian Swachhata League.

The Indian Swachhata League 2.0, scheduled to take place from 15th September to 17th 2023, will build upon the success and momentum of its previous season. It aims to engage and empower the youth to actively participate in cleanliness drives and promote the vision of a garbage-free India. The league will bring together teams from various cities, including Chandigarh Challenger’s – Phir se, to compete, collaborate, and drive change through their collective efforts.

He expressed his enthusiasm for the upcoming season, stating, “With the launch of the Chandigarh Challenger’s – Phir se team logo, we embark on a remarkable journey towards a cleaner and healthier Chandigarh. Through ISL 2.0, we aim to ignite a sense of civic responsibility and encourage citizens to actively contribute to the Swachh Bharat Mission.”

Additionally, the MCC would like to highlight the upcoming Swachhata Pakhwada, which will commence on 15th September 2023. The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MOHUA) and the Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation (DDWS) will organize the annual Swachhata Hi Sewa (SHS) fortnight from 15th September to 2nd October 2023, as a prelude to the Swachh Bharat Diwas on 2nd October 2023. This year’s theme for SHS is “Garbage Free India.”

SHS-2023 celebrations will include the following components:

– Fortnight-long cleanliness drives as part of Swachhata Hi Seva

– The second season of the Indian Swachhata League (ISL 2.0) on 15th September 2023 to mobilize youth-led Swachhata activities

– SafaiMitra Suraksha Shivir to ensure the well-being of sanitation workers through various government schemes and health check-ups from 18th to 25th September 2023.
