PU, Chandigarh organized a one day workshop in Academic Administration with focus on Hostel Administration, here today.

Human Resource Development Centre, Panjab University, Chandigarh in 
collaboration with U.T. Administration under RUSA Scheme (MHRD, GOI) organized a one day workshop in Academic Administration with focus on Hostel Administration, here today.  The workshop coordinated by Dr Jayanti Dutta was attended by 35 hostel wardens of Panjab University hostels and hostels of U.T. Colleges.  The resource persons included the former Dean Student Welfare Prof. Navdeep Goyal and present Dean Student Welfare (Men & Women) and Senior Senators. Professor Ashutosh Kumar, Director, UGC-Human Resource Development Centre, Panjab University, Chandigarh welcomed the participants and briefed them about the agenda of the programme.

 Professor Emanual Nahar, Dean Student Welfare and Professor Neena Capalash, Dean Student Welfare(W) in their inaugural addresses mentioned the different initiatives undertaken by the University Administration in the last one year including organizing mediation classes, wall magazines, cleanliness drives, organizing lectures and cultural programmes etc.  The interactive sessions were focussed on three themes namely sharing the experiences; challenges of handling the young adults and managing 
resources for effective hostel administration.  The valedictory lecture was delivered by Professor Ronki Ram, Dean of Arts, Panjab University, Chandigarh also distributed the certificates.

The participant demanded more such workshops for newly recruited hostel wardens.

Department of Indian Theatre, PU will stage their annual production Heer Ranjha designed and directed by Dr.Navdeep Kaur

Department of Indian Theatre, Panjab University will stage their annual
production Heer Ranjha designed and directed by Dr.Navdeep Kaur on May 9-12 at 7:30 pm at the Open Air Theatre. A press conference was held at the
department on Tuesday. Chairperson,Dr. Navdeep Kaur shared that the play
has been written by Ekam Manuke and the reason to choose this play was to revive the folk trations and culture of Punjab. The students of MA first and second year will be performing in the two hour play. The music has been produced by Tejinder Gill, assistant director, department of youth welfare. Thelighting has been designed by Souti Chakraborty from National School of Drama.

The production took two months to prepare and students from different states will be performing in Punjabi.

Dr. Navdeep Kaur – DIRECTOR
Dr. Navdeep Kaur, presently the Chairperson of Department of Indian Theatre is Doctorate in Theatre from Punjabi University Patiala. A gold
medallist in Post Graduation (Theatre & Television Department) has been awarded with University Fellowship for P. hd. She has been teaching Theatre/Dramatic Arts (P.G classes and Ph.D scholars) in the Department of Indian Theatre, Panjab University Chandigarh, since last 12 years. She has been awarded for contribution in Performing Arts (2016-17). An administrator, teacher and performer Dr Navdeep Kaur has been acted in various plays, Tv serials,Telefilms, Feature films and directed many play. She has published various research papers and a book on theatre.

Government of India from the office of Principal Scientific Advisor(PSA) to Prime Minister visited Panjab University(PU) for interaction

A team of officials comprising of Ms. Malyaj Varmani, Assistant Vice 
President, Sh. Nitin, Invest India, Department of Industrial Policy & Promotion, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India  from the office of Principal Scientific Advisor(PSA) to Prime Minister visited Panjab University(PU) for interaction with Prof. Raj Kumar, Vice-Chancellor, PU and the President of Chandigarh Region Innovation and Knowledge Cluster (CRIKC). Scientists and nominees  from different CRIKC institutes, Chairpersons of the Departments and various officials of PU. 

PU VC in his welcome address talked about the necessity to augment the 
Industry- Academia crosstalk. He shared about consolidation of different Industry-Academia bodies of the PU and the CRIKC institutes along with developing a deliverable Gallery of the CRIKC institutes.

The two members team apprised all about the newer initiatives of Government of India on Industry-Academia platforms on areas of Genomics, Biodiversity Artificial Intelligence, Electric Vehicles, Quantum  Frontier, Indian Languages Translation, Deportion Exploration etc. earth mapping, creations of museums and then specifically on AGNIi (Accelerating Growth of New India’s Innovations) initiative. This initiative is aimed at supporting the ongoing efforts to boost the innovation ecosystem in the country by connecting innovators across industry, individuals and the grassroots to the market and helping commercialise their innovative solutions. It will provide a platform for innovators to bring their market ready products and solutions to industry thereby helping propel India into a new era of inclusive economic growth.  

The scientists of CRIKC institutes shared the innovative projects being 
undertaken by their institutes. The initiatives and future plan of CRIKC were shared with the members along with the presentation of different Industry-Academia bodies of PU as 8 verticals. 

 The PSA official expressed their satisfaction at the different initiatives of 
CRIKC and the type of Ecosystem that already exists in and around PU to meet the Challenges under the Mandate of AGNIi.

Mr Harpreet Sidhu, IPS, ADG and Special Principal Secretary to CM Punjab gave a talk on comprehensive action against Drug Abuse in Punjab at the Department of Sociology, PU, Chandigarh, here today.

Mr Harpreet Sidhu, IPS, ADG and Special Principal Secretary to CM Punjab gave a talk on comprehensive action against Drug Abuse in Punjab at the Department of Sociology, Panjab University, Chandigarh, here today. 

Mr. Sidhu said that problem of Drug Abuse has to be tackled economically, 
politically and socially in a detailed presentation. He discussed different dimensions of Drug Abuse in Punjab and the novel methods being adopted by the Punjab Government to combat that menace which involved combined effort of the state, doctors, community and the individuals. He also discussed the efforts being made by the Government to involve the peer group and the teachers in the buddy programme so that drug addiction could be tackled at it’s roots. 

His talk was followed by an interactive discussion that brought out different dimensions of drug abuse in Punjab, informed Prof. Kumool Abbi, Chairperson, Department of Sociology, PU.

Special Performances by blind and transgender students

Chandigarh, May 5:  Dept of Hindi, Panjab University organized it’s annual farewell program Rukhsat 2019 for it’s outgoing batch of MA 2017-19 students. The program was innaugrated by Prof. Karamjeet Singh, Registrar, PU with a cake cutting ceremony. A special song performance by a blind student Anuj and  a dance performance by transgender student Dhananjay Mangalmukhi were the special highlights of the program.  A special
announcement regarding initiating a scholarship for students if Hindi Department was also made by Kajal Mangalmukhi the organizer of Saksham Trust.


Students and Research Scholars of the Department showcased special cultural  performances which included a Punjabi, Haryanvi, Himachali and Rajasthani dances. Jasbir was declared Mr Farewell and Ankita was declared Miss Farewell at the program. Sunil won Mr Personality and Vinita won Miss Personality.  Siddharth won Mr. Talented and Deepika won
Miss Talented. The judges for the event were Ms. Neeru Bhatiya, Deputy Librarian, PU; D Swati, from Bank of Baroda and Dr. Mahesh Kumar Tanvar from Reserve Bank of India. The program was attended by Dr. Gurmeet Singh, Chairperson, Dept. of Hindi ;  Prof. Neerja Sood, Prof. Baijnath Prasad, Prof. Satyapal Sehgal and Dr.Ashok Kumar attended the
function.

Dr Gurmeet Kaur, Department of Geology, Panjab University and her students in collaboration with other geoscientists from India and abroad

Dr Gurmeet Kaur, Department of Geology, Panjab University and her students in collaboration with other geoscientists from India and abroad are carrying out work to promote significant stones of India which were used in the architectonic heritage in the past. Under prestigious Roland Schlich travel support and IGCP project 637 two students from Dr Kaur’s lab, Mr Amritpaul Singh and Ms Parminder Kaur received funding 
to attend EGU general assembly 2019 which had more than 16000 geoscientists from 113 countries in attendance. Both the students presented their posters and participated for the Outstanding Student Poster and PICO (OSPP) award. Parminder Kaur (CSIR fellow) received the prestigious OSPP award for her poster presentation. Her award includes full registration fee waiver for the next EGU assembly and an award certificate. She will attend the next EGU assembly at Vienna, Austria in 2020 to receive her award.

A special lecture was organised on “Ill Effects of Over Population in India”  
by Population Research Centre(PRC), Panjab University, Chandigarh sponsored by Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India at ICSSR (NW), Chandigarh.

The key speaker was Sh. Manu Gaur, National President, Taxpayers Association of Bharat (TAXAB). He highlighted the problems associated with over population with facts and figures. He also touched on different aspect relating to over population. The main focus of the discussion was on uneven population growth and its relationship with natural resources. He concluded that uneven population growth is a major challenge for sustainable development. 

Prof. Kiranpreet Kaur, Director PRC highlighted activities and various 
research projects such as Reproductive and Child Health (RCH), Maternal health, Monitoring and evaluation programmes undertaken by PRC, PU, Chandigarh. Recently Centre has initiated research studies on Swatch Bharat and Health monitoring information system (HMIS). Prof. Devinder Singh addressed and discussed various  implication of right to birth and population law. The concluding remarks were given by Prof. Raghu Ram Rao, Director NIPER, who was Chief guest on the occasion. Dr. Manmohan 
Singh proposed vote of thanks. The lecture was attended by Chairpersons, Faculty members and research scholars from different departments.

Cell Physician, Global Institute of Stem cell therapy and Research (GIOSTAR), USA along with Dr. Joydeep Das Gupta, Director of India Project Operation organized by Centre for Stem Cell Tissue Engineering and Biomedical Excellence Panjab University, Chandigarh, here today. 

They explained the use of Stem Cell therapy for the treatment of 
degenerative disease, such as Parkinson disease, Alzheimer’s disease, and Diabetes etc. The have also explained the various successful clinical case studies by the use of  Stem Cell therapy. 

Lecture on Stem Cell Therapy was attended by M.Sc. students Research 
Scholars & faculty Members.
