PU to launch new diploma courses in SCS

25 seats for PGD in Journalism and Mass Communication and Radio Production

School of Communication Studies at Panjab University, Chandigarh is set to 
begin two new diploma courses from the 2019-2020 session. A Post Graduate Diploma in Journalism and Mass Communication and another in Radio Production will have 25 seats each. The department is already running a diploma in Advertising and Public Relations in addition to the Master of Arts in Journalism and Mass Communication.

The media industry is seeing a boom thanks to the shift online; news portals and web based television and radio channels have opened a new avenue for budding journalists. The spurt in radio channels, both commercial and community has also led to job creation in the arena. 

The department is well equipped to provide the students with practical know how of the industry; it runs Panjab University’s Community Radio Station since 2011 and has now established a Television studio which will be functional from the upcoming session.

Panjab University, Chandigarh has extended the last date of Golden Chance

This is for the information of the candidates in particular and public in 
general that Panjab University, Chandigarh has extended the last date of Golden Chance given to all Professional Courses/Undergraduate/Postgraduate Courses to complete the 
degree (i.e. Compartments/Re-appear/Improvement/Additional Subject), from 20.5.2019 to 6.6.2019. These examinations will be held in June 2019.

general that those candidates who had deposited their fee for PU – CET (P.G.) Entrance Test- 2019 well in time but could not complete their forms online should contact the Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Computer Centre, Panjab University, Chandigarh to complete their forms upto 4th June 2019 till 4:00 P.M. The candidates should bring scanned photograph alongwith signature in Pen Drive alongwith a fine of Rs. 500/-. No further communication in this regard will be entertained thereafter.

IGNOU Regional Centre Chandigarh

Chandigarh:

IGNOU June Term Examination 2019 is going to commence from 1st June, 2019 and will conclude on 29th June, 2019.

The students may download the Hall Tickets from the University website (http://www.ignou.ac.in/ or https://ignouhall.ignou.ac.in/HallTickets/HALL0619/Hall0619.asp) and appear in the examination.

Dr Anil Kumar Dimri, Regional Director, IGNOU, Regional Center, Chandigarh said that students are advised to be in possession of the valid Identity Card issued by the University at the time of admission during the examination. IGNOU RC Chandigarh deputed Observers for monitoring examination activities and monitoring team has also been deputed by IGNOU headquarter, New Delhi for the smooth conduct of examination in the region. IGNOU Regional Center Chandigarh established 08 Examination Centers for June TEE 2019 including 03 Exam Centres in Jail at Chandigarh, Patiala and Ambalal for jail inmates.

The mobile phones are not permitted inside the examination hall.

PU Syndicate Meeting

Chandigarh, May 28, 2019

Panjab University in its Syndicate meeting held here today took up all
the 24 agenda items.

 At the outset Prof. Raj Kumar, Vice Chancellor, Panjab University informed that in a move towards digitization, Tablet Computers will be provided to Syndicate members which will also save the usage of paper.

The Syndicate approved the benefit of Basic Pay +GP+DA to the daily wage
employees appointed on DC rates after December 2008 in view of the
legal opinion, pursuant to recommendation of the Board of Finance (BoF). The Syndicate approved the implementation of the proposal that an employee be allowed minimum pay scale of the post as and when he/she will completes 10 years of the service in the University.

 The Syndicate approved the agenda items related to extensions
in terms of various appointments of PU faculty.


        The Syndicate approved contractual term of appointment of Ms.
Navdeep Sharma, Programme Coordinator, NSS for the period of one year w.e.f. 1st July 2019 on the same terms and conditions.

The Syndicate extended the terms of Deans/Associate Deans namely Prof. Emanual Nahar, Dean Student Welfare(M), Prof. Neena Capalash, Dean Students Welfare (W) and Prof. Ranjan Kumar, Associate Dean Students Welfare beyond 31st May 2019 till the meeting of the Senate is convened. However, PU VC gave his strong reservation for recommending their names for the term beyond 31st May 2019.

In the 2nd day of the National Workshop on “Leadership for Sustainable Environments” conducted by UGC- Human Resource Development Centre, PU, Chandigarh

 In the 2nd day of the National Workshop on “Leadership for Sustainable 
Environments” conducted by UGC- Human Resource Development Centre, Panjab University, Chandigarh and sponsored by Centre for Academic Leader and Education Management (CALEM), MHRD, Department of Education, Panjab University, Chandigarh experts of different hues came together. Professor R.K. Sathpathi, Director, Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR), North-Eastern Hill University, Shillong deliberated 
on the ‘Meaning of Leaders, Today’ in the right of different political theories.

Professor M Rajivlochan, former Director of Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), Panjab University, Chandigarh shared his opinion and experiences on Quality of Leadership in Higher Education Institutes.  His insights on managing conflicts within the departments were appreciated by the faculty who work amidst vulnerable situations in workplaces within the collegial administrative framework of academic institutions.

Skills and competencies of leadership can be learnt and must be learnt by a 
teacher because the teacher by default is a leader in the classroom and even in the community.  Professor Harpreet Chhabra, Professor in Psychology, Panjab University, Chandigarh familiarized participants with hands-on-leadership.

PU Holds a walkathon to Sensitize about Biodiversity

Centre for Industry Institute Partnership Programme (CIIPP) at Panjab 
University in collaboration with Punjab Biodiversity Board under the aegis of National Biodiversity Authority of India and Departments of Botany, Environment studies and Centre for Stem Cell & Tissue Engineering Department of Chemistry and Biotechnology, UIET organized one day event on spreading awareness about Biodiversity. 

The theme of this event was “Our Biodiversity, Our Food , Our Health ”. 

 The event started at 06:00 am with the flag off from Panjab University by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof Raj Kumar. Later , about 70 participants gathered at Sukhna lake for the awareness walk. At Sukhna Lake, Dr HS Dhillon, Tree Lover Society, Prof A.S Ahluwalis and Prof MC Sidhu from Department of Botany  and Mr. Gurmohinder Singh from Punjab Biodiversity Board Chandigarh made everyone aware about the rich flora of Sukhna lake along with a walkathon by research scholars and faculty members of Panjab 
University. Prof A.S Ahluwalia, Secretary to Vice-Chancellor was the Chief Guest of the event. The Hony Director CIIPP, Prof Sanjeev Puri informed the gathering about the efforts being taken to sensitize the researchers about the responsible research needed to make sustainable growth.

The general public got very enthused and lauded the efforts being taken by 
Panjab University and making people aware about the importance of maintaining the biodiversity. The event ended with the pledge by the students and the general public to join hands to preserve the biodiversity through further sensitization.

(i)     Dr. Kewal Krishan, Associate Professor and Chairperson of the Department of Anthropology has been conferred the status of honorary member by the Board of Directors of the American Society of Forensic Podiatry (ASFP), Oregon, USA in recognition of his distinguished and outstanding contributions to the forensic podiatry (dealing with evidence related to human foot at the crime scene).

Prem Bhatia Memorial scholarship for SCS students

Annual scholarships for Mass Communication students started by Prem Bhatia Memorial Trust.

Two students pursuing Masters in Journalism and Mass Communication from the School of Communication Studies, Panjab University have been awarded a scholarship of Rs 20,000 each by the Prem Bhatia Memorial Trust. The 24 year old trust has begun an annual scholarship on need cum merit basis.  

 The two students who have been selected by the academic committee of the department are Krishma, a final year student and Suraj Munjal, a first year student for the award of scholarship this year. Mr. Anand Bhatia, the president of the trust said, The trust is extremely happy to collaborate with the School of Communication Studies, to encourage the students to pursue dreams in the field of journalism.

The Prem Bhatia Memorial Trust was founded in 1995 in memory of the eminent journalist Prem Bhatia. The trust works for improvement of journalism standards in the country. Each year, the trust gives two awards, outstanding political reporting of the year and outstanding environmental reporting of the year, decided by independent juries, specially constituted for this purpose. This scholarship has been instituted by the trust to encourage budding journalists.

 Guru Ravidass Chair for Sant Sahitya Studies Panjab University, organized a two day national seminar on the topic “Sri Guru Nanak Dev: Bani, Philosophy and Contemporary Society on 27-28.05.2019 to commemorate the 550th Birthday of Guru Nanak Dev Ji. The seminar was inaugurated by Prof. Shanker Ji Jha, DUI, Panjab University. He discusses that Guru Nanak Dev Ji was the first Sikh Guru and founder of the faith, should be commemorated with faith and knowledgeable articulations both in academia and social spaces. Dr. Subhash Sharma, Director Hindustan Cooper Ltd. highlights Guru Ji’s service to humanity without any self-interest. In the key Note address Prof. Gurmit Singh, former professor and Dean faculty of languages Guru Nanak Dev University and in Presidential Address Prof. Karamjit Singh, Registrar, Panjab University explained the 
role of Guru ji’s bani and philosophy in the making of secular and tolerant balanced Indian society. The first session was presided by Prof. Nandita and Prof. VK Alankar and Dr. Shiwani Sharma portrayed impact of the philosophy and teaching of Guru Nanak dev.  The other speakers give their views are Prof. Gurmukh Singh, Prof. I.D. Gaur, Dr. Manjinder Singh, Dr Baljit Singh, Dr. Jasbir Singh,Dr.Avtar Singh and Dr Nirmal Singh. 

 The seminar was attended by the large no. of delegates and Chairperson of Guru Ravidas Chair, Prof. Gurpal Singh gave thanks to the guests and delegates.
