Neerja Bhanot Hall, GH-10 celebrates World Environment Day at PU
The Neerja Bhanot Hall, Girls Hostel No. 10 celebrated the World Environment Day on 5th June 2019.

DSW(W) Prof. Neena Caplash, Dr. Archana Chauhan Warden of GH-10, Wardens of other Hostels, Several Guests and residents of GH-10 joined this campaign of planting several trees in the lawn of GH 10.A two-wheeler parking area was inaugurated by Prof. Capalash on this occasion. Also, as part of ‘The Green Periods Project’ lecture was delivered to create awareness about sustainable menstruation.


At the end of the lecture, a game called menstrual ‘BINGO’ was also played by the residents. Eco-friendly sanitary napkins were also distributed by Warden of GH-10 to the residents on this occasion.

Environment Day Celebrated at PU

Chandigarh June 5, 2019

Prof. Raj Kumar, Vice Chancellor, Panjab University, Chandigarh along with Prof. Shankarji Jha, Dean University Instruction, Prof. Sanjay Kaushik, DCDC, Prof. R.K. Singla, Dean Research, Prof. Neena Capalash, Dean Students Welfare (Women), Shri Anil Thakur, DE Horticulture, faculty members, students from various departments and the staff of Horticulture Division, Panjab University, participated in the Plantation drive on the occasion of World Environment day, here today.PU VC appreciated the efforts of all in organizing the event and urged them to create further awareness in protecting the environment as each individual with small effort has the power to bring the change. The cleanliness drive was also carried out in Panjab University Campus by picking up the waste and polythene bags from the campus on the occasion. A number of trees of various species were planted like Bougainvillea, Ficus, Kaner at different places like Children Park near Faculty House, ICSSR, Girls Hostel No.10, 
Girls Hostel No. 3,  Girls Hostel No.2 and Boys Hostel No.4.

Residents of Mehr Chand Mahajan Hall, Boys Hostel 1, Celebrated World Cycle Day

Chandigarh June 4, 2019

Residents of Mehr Chand Mahajan Hall, Boys Hostel 1, Celebrated World Cycle Day and Environment Day together today under the guidance of Warden Dr. Rajeev Kumar and Prof. Emanual Nahar, Dean Student Welfare. The whole team actively participated and aware other residents and staff members of Panjab University about the significance of cycling in saving environment at gate no 1. In this awareness drive stickers have been 
distributed among the staff and residents which promote cycling at least once in a week, to keep environment clean and safe statement by Warden Boys Hostel 1.

3 Days workshop concludes at PU

Department of Sociology, Panjab University, Chandigarh in collaboration with National Rehabilitation Institute organized a workshop on “Essential of Child Psychology” from 31st May to 2nd  June  2019. 

The participants were from different states of India trained in identification of Mental retardation, Austim, learning disabilities, ADHD, conduct disorders and speech related problems.

The faculty of the course included Dr Kiranpreet Kaur, professor of Sociology Pu, Dr Dhambir Singh, A senior faculty of speech and language from PGI Chandigarh, Dr Tarlochan Singh, senior psychologist and Director psychowaves and Prof Dwarka Prasad, a retired Prof of clinical psychology from PGI and master trainer in Behavioural issues of children spoke on the occasion. 

Dr Dwarka said that nearly 10% of children need immediate attention for optimization of potential and minimization of functioning of the children.  Many times this illness are outcome of modern lifestyle and lack of time available for quality parenting of the children. 

It was concluded that such trainings are must for school counsellors, special educators and child psychologists.

चंडीगढ़: हरियाणा व पंजाब में पारा 46 पार

चंडीगढ़:

पसीने से तरबतर जिंदगी। जी हां, यह हाल हरियाणा और पंजाब का है। दोनों सूबों में प्रचंड गर्मी व गर्म हवाओं के थपेड़ों से पारा 46 के पार पहुंच चुका है।

राजस्थान से सटे नारनौल में पारा 47 डिग्री सेल्सियस को छू चुका है। शुक्रवार सीजन का सबसे गर्म दिन रहा। बठिंडा से लेकर हिसार, नारनौल और एनसीआर प्रचंड गर्मी की चपेट में है।

हरियाणा-पंजाब की राजधानी चंडीगढ़ भी गर्मी से अछूती नहीं है। यहां तापमान 44 डिग्री सेल्सियस पहुंच चुका है। 

भारतीय मौसम विज्ञान विभाग चंडीगढ़ के मुताबिक शुक्रवार को हरियाणा और पंजाब में औसतन तापमान 45.8 डिग्री सेल्सियस रहा।

सबसे ज्यादा तापमान हरियाणा के नारनौल में 46.9 डिग्री सेल्सियस दर्ज किया गया। पंजाब के बठिंडा में भी पारा 46.5 डिग्री सेल्सियस रहा।

सिरसा में भी पारा सातवें आसमान पर है। यहां तापमान 46.1 डिग्री सेल्सियस दर्ज किया गया। हिसार में तापमान 45.8, रोहतक में 44.6, कुरुक्षेत्र में 44.2, करनाल में 44.5, गुरुग्राम में 45.7 और फरीदाबाद में 45.2 डिग्री सेल्सियस रहा।

मौसम विभाग के मुताबिक आगामी 72 घंटों में गर्मी से राहत मिलने की कोई उम्मीद नहीं है। तापमान ज्यादा बढ़ सकता है। 

गर्मी की तासीर बढ़ते ही पेय पदार्थों की डिमांड बढ़ चुकी है। गला तर करने के लिए लोग ठंडे पेय पदार्थों का सहारा ले रहे हैं।

गन्ने का रस, शिकंजी, शेक और ठंडे पेय पदार्थों की दुकानों पर भीड़ बढ़ रही है।  चौधरी चरण सिंह हरियाणा कृषि विश्वविद्यालय के पूर्व प्रोफेसर एवं वरिष्ठ सब्जी विशेषज्ञ डॉ. सीबी सिंह का कहना है कि गर्मी से खरबूजे की मिठास बढ़ गई है।

हालांकि अन्य सब्जियों की फसल प्रभावित हो रही है। टमाटर, भिंडी और शिमला मिर्च पर विपरीत असर पड़ रहा है।

सब्जियों में गर्मी का प्रभाव कम हो, इसके लिए किसान शाम को हलकी सिंचाई करें। इससे खेत में नमी की मात्रा बनी रहेगी और सब्जी का उत्पादन भी अच्छा होगा।

Mr Gurpreet Singh Sohal coordinated from khuda Ali sher 
village.

The Directorate of Sports, Panjab University, Chandigarh is organizing one 
month Free Yoga camp as per the past practices since the beginning of International Day of Yoga at Panjab University Shooting Range, Chandigarh.


Prof. Karamjeet Singh, Registrar, Panjab University, Chandigarh was the chief guest during the inauguration of the One Month Free Yoga Camp. Prof. Karamjeet spoke about the significance of Yoga Meditation and pranayama in individual’s life. Further he explained through practicing yoga one can attach 3D’s in life i.e Discipline, Dedication and Determination for becoming an excellent human being. Prof. Karamjeet Singh on behalf of the Vice Chancellor Prof. Raj Kumar appreciated the efforts of the Sports Department and congratulated Dr. Parminder Singh and entire team for this initiative. 

 The expert yoga trainers for the Camp are Mr. Raman Kumar, Dr. Neeru Malik, the team of Himalayan Yogis. On this occasion Dr. Thingnam Nandalal Singh, Chairperson Deptt of Phy. Edu., Dr. Neeru Malik (Fellow PU), the coaches and staff of sports department were present. 

More than 200 participants performed yoga. The camp will conclude with the celebration of International Day of Yoga on 21st June, 2019 at Panjab University, Chandigarh.
