Special Help Desk at PU

Panjab University, Chandigarh will be setting up a special help desk by Dean Student Welfare(DSW) office at Student Centre w.e.f. July 2, 2019 for handling the queries of the students coming to the University for the Admissions and Hostel Accommodation, which was inaugurated today by Prof. Karamjeet Singh, Registrar in the presence of Prof. Emanual Nahar, DSW, Prof. Neena Capalash, DSW (Women), Dr. Rajeev Kumar, Warden, Boys Hostel No. 1, Dr. Muneeshwar Joshi, Secretary to Vice Chancellor 
and DSW Staff.  
       

The help desk will facilitate the coming students regarding admission to various available courses, eligibility criteria, number of seats, required documents, fee structure, hostels and scholarships, informed DSW.

        He further informed that Wardens, Research Scholars and staff of DSW office will be on duty at the help desk from 9.00-1.00 pm and 2.00-5.00 pm on rotation basis.

Prof. Karamjeet Singh, Registrar, Panjab University, Chandigarh honoured Mrs. & Mr. C. T. Kuruvilla, Owner of South India Coffee House in the office of Dean Student Welfare(DSW), in the presence of Prof. Emanual Nahar, DSW, Prof. Neena Capalash, DSW(Women) and Dr. Muneeshwar Joshi, Secretary to Vice Chancellor. The Registrar appreciated the services provided by him during his long tenure at Panjab University Coffee House. 
Prof. Emanual Nahar appreciated for his commitment towards PU and his love for the Alumni, Faculty, Staff and students visiting the Coffee House.   
Mr. C. T. Kuruvilla expressed his gratitude to all for showering love and respect to him by one and all. He informed that he has served 3 generations at the Coffee House and has cordial relations with all.

An Indo-UK Workshop on the theme “Wastewater Treatment: Approaches, 
Management, and Capacity building” is being organized under the Researcher Links Scheme offered within Newton fund in partnership with the Royal Society of Chemistry, by the British Council, at the Sophisticated Analytical Instrumentation Facility (SAIF), Panjab University, Chandigarh from July 03-05, 2019.

Last date for deposit of fee in any branch of State Bank of India using website generated Challan is 5th July 2019 (Friday) upto 4.00 p.m. and Last date for uploading of photograph, signature with rest

  राष्ट्रीय सांख्यिकी दिवस के उपलक्ष्य में आज योजना भवन सैक्टर-4 पंचकूला में अर्थ एवं सांख्यिकी विश्लेषण विभाग द्वारा राज्यस्तरीय कार्यक्रम का आयोजन किया गया। सांख्यिकी के पितामह प्रोफेसर प्रशांत चन्द्रा महालानोबिस की स्मृति में प्रतिवर्ष 29 जून को राष्ट्रीय सांख्यिकी दिवस के रूप में मनाया जाता है। इस दिवस का इस वर्ष का विषय सतत् विकास तय किया गया था और इस कार्यक्रम अर्थ एवं सांख्यिकी विश्लेषण विभाग के साथ- साथ शिक्षा, स्वास्थ्य, ग्रामीण विकास, जन स्वास्थ्य, कृषि, लोक निर्माण व अन्य संबंधित विभागों के अधिकारी उपस्थित रहे।

 इस कार्यक्रम की अध्यक्षता अर्थ एवं सांख्यिकी विश्लेषण विभाग के निदेशक डाॅ रविन्द्र सिंह मल्हान ने की और उन्होंने दीप शिखा प्रज्जवलित करके इस कार्यक्रम का शुभारंभ किया। इस मौके पर प्रौफेसर पी0सी0 महालानोबिस के जीवन व उपलब्धियों पर आधारित टैली फिल्म का प्रसारण किया गया। 

डाॅ मल्हान ने इस अवसर पर कहा कि आर्थिक और समाजिक क्षेत्र के प्रमुख विषयों में सतत् विकास के लिए वैश्विक स्तर पर 17 लक्ष्यों को तय किया गया है। यह लक्ष्य तय करने में भारत की विशेष भूमिका रही है। इन लक्ष्यों में आर्थिक विकास के साथ- साथ शिक्षा, स्वास्थ्य, पेयजल, शिशु ओर माता मृत्यु दर, प्राकृतिक स्रोतों का संरक्षण, पर्यावरण प्रदूषण , गरीबी जैसे समाजिक सरोकार भी शामिल किए गए हैं।उन्होंने कहा कि किसी भी लक्ष्य को हासिल करने के लिए आंकड़ों की महत्वपूर्ण भूमिका होती है।इसलिए आंकड़ों की स्टीक जानकारी, इन आंकड़ों के आधार पर 17 वैश्विक लक्ष्यों की प्राप्ति के लिए बजट विभाजन, खर्च प्रक्रिया की मोनिटरिंग के लिए इंडिया डेशबोर्ड तैयार किया गया है। हरियाणा प्रदेश द्वारा इस क्षेत्र मे विशेष पहल करते हुए हरियाणा एसडीजी विजन 2030 का डैशबोर्ड 27 ंजून 2017 को ही लांच किया जा चुका है। 

उन्होंने विभिन्न विभागों में बेहतर समन्वय की आवश्यकता पर बल देते हुए कहा कि इसके लिए काॅमन मैनजमैंट इंफरमेश्न सिस्टम जरूरी है और यह कार्य इस डैशबोर्ड के माध्यम से बेहतर तरीके से किया जा सकता है। इसके अलावा आज की इस बैठक में राज्य और जिला स्तर पर होने वाले सर्वे, उनकी सूचनाओं के आदान- प्रदान तथा भविष्य में सूचनाओं की जानकारी के लिए किए गए सुधार इत्यादि विषयों पर भी विस्तृत चर्चा की गई।

Candidates from the PU IAS Centre clear PCS Executive

 Five candidates who underwent training for the PCS Executive interview at the IAS Centre,  Panjab University have been selected as PCS Executive officers. It is indeed a matter of pride for the Centre and the University to see their students shining. Priyanka Kairon, Aayush Gupta, Navjot Kaur Sandhu, Varinder Singh Khosa and Karan Singh Sandhu were among the 9 students who were provided training at the IAS Centre through mock interviews conducted in the months of April and May 2019. They have been awarded rank 17  21, 24, 25 and 32 respectively.

Prof. Parmjit Kaur, Director, IAS Centre and the Coordinator,  Dr. Shruti Bedi said that they would host a program to honour the selected candidates soon. They were thankful to the panelists of the mock interviews who had put in so much effort for the students.

 The English Proficiency Course was started in June 2019 and the batch of 
students will continue learning till May 2020 with online support from Skills Anytime, the online partner. 


        The Department of English and Cultural studies initiated a vacation batch of the English proficiency Course in the month of June. The Course ran smoothly and successfully. The participants were a heterogeneous group of ten candidates ranging from teenagers to a senior citizen varying immensely in their levels of proficiency.
       

The English Proficiency Course covers the skills of language – Listening, 
Speaking, Reading and Writing – along with the practice of grammar. It aims at filling the individual gap areas as well as collective gap areas due to mother tongue interference.

        Dr. Meenu Gupta coordinated the course with Prof. Pushpinder Syal as mentor and trainer and Prof. Deepti Gupta as the Chairperson of the Department of English. Along with them, the facilitators – Gurleen, Chanchal.
