The Department of Life Long Learning & Extension, Panjab University, Chandigarh is celebrating World Population Day on 11th July, 2019 in Government Senior Secondary School, Sector-15, Chandigarh near Gurdwara by organizing painting competition for school students from 8:30 am onwards in collaboration with Inner Wheel club, Chandigarh midtown. There will be a talk on the theme of “Population Growth and Environment” by Mrs. Renu Gandhi, Assistant Professor, (Selection Grade), Department of Life Long Learning & Extension, PU for teachers and students.

The Department of Geography, Panjab University, Chandigarh has been awarded a prestigious collaborative research project tilted “Capacity Building for Policy and Planning in Kenya, Tanzania and India: A Focus on Food Systems and Urban Growth Management” under the Canadian Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Scholarships Program. The project carries an award of CAN $298,000 (more than Rs. 1.5 crore). The project is in partnership with the University of Fraser Valley Abbotsford Canada, University of Nairobi, Kenya and Ardhi University, Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. Under this project, 4 students from the Department of Geography will visit Canada for 3 months each over 2 years starting from September 2019 until Summer 2021 and their visit and stay will be fully funded under the project. The Coordinator of the project is Prof. Dhian Kaur of Department of Geography. Dr. Simrat Kahlon, Chairperson of the Department is also involved in the project.

हरियाणा के पूर्व सरपंचों, जिला परिषदों के अध्यक्षों व उपाध्यक्षों और पंचायत समिति के अध्यक्षों एवं उपाध्यक्षों के लिए अच्छी खबर है! प्रदेश सरकार ने इन्हें पेंशन देने का निर्णय लिया है!
इस सम्बन्ध में जानकारी देते हुए हरियाणा के वित्त मंत्री कैप्टन अभिमन्यु ने बताया कि माननीय मुख्यमंत्री श्री मनोहर लाल के निर्देश पर प्रदेश सरकार ने पूर्व पंचायत प्रतिनिधियों को पेंशन देने का फैसला लिया है! इस पेंशन से 25 हज़ार 336 लोगों को वार्षिक 30 करोड़ से अधिक बतौर पेंशन वितरित किये जायेंगे!
हरियाणा के वित्त मंत्री कैप्टन अभिमन्यु ने बताया कि प्रदेश सरकार द्वारा लिए गये निर्णय के अनुसार अब जिला परिषदों के पूर्व अध्यक्षों को 2 हज़ार रु, पूर्व उपाध्यक्षों को 1 हज़ार रु, पंचायत समितियों के पूर्व अध्यक्षों को 1500 रु, पूर्व उपाध्यक्षों को 750 रु और पूर्व सरपंचों को 1 हज़ार रूपये मासिक पेंशन मिलेगी!
वित्त मंत्री ने बताया की इस समय राज्य में जिला परिषदों के 75 पूर्व अध्यक्ष एवं उपाध्यक्ष, पंचायत समितियों के 462 पूर्व अध्यक्ष और उपाध्यक्ष और 24 हज़ार 262 पूर्व सरपंच हैं जिन्हें सरकार के इस फैसले से पेंशन का लाभ मिलेगा!
उन्होंने बताया कि इस पेंशन के तौर पर सरकार हर वर्ष 30.6 करोड़ से ज्यादा का वितरण करेगी!वित्त मंत्री ने बताया कि इस पेंशन के लिए कुछ नियम भी बनाये गये हैं और जो इन नियमों को पूरा करते होंगे उन्हें ही इस योजना का लाभ मिलेगा!
उन्होंने बताया की 1994 के बाद चुने गये सरपंचों या अध्यक्षों को ही इस योजना का लाभ मिलेगा! बुजुर्ग सम्मान पेंशन के अलावा किसी भी तरह की पेंशन ले रहे लोग इस योजना का लाभ नहीं उठा पायेंगे!
उन्होंने बताया कि अगर कोई प्रतिनिधि एक से अधिक बार निर्वाचित हुआ है तो उसे एक बार की पेंशन ही मिलेगी! उन्होंने बताया कि जिन जन प्रतिनिधियों ने अपने कार्यकाल का कम से कम ढाई साल पूरा नहीं किया होगा उन्हें भी यह पेंशन नहीं मिलेगी!

A meeting under the chairmanship of Prof. Raj Kumar, Vice Chancellor, Panjab University, Chandigarh in the presence of Prof. Shankarji Jha, Dean of University Instructions, Prof. R.K. Singla, Computer Centre, Prof. Sukhwinder Singh, Director, Computer Centre, Prof. Gurpal Singh, Department of Evening Studies, Prof. Neena Capalash, Dean Student Welfare (Women), Prof. Jatinder Grover, Department of Education, Prof. Baijnath Prasad, Department of Hindi and Ms. Renuka B. Salwan, Director, Public Relations to review and monitor the ongoing admissions at PU, was held here today.
The total registered candidates for online admission for Panjab University has touched the figure of 32,900, the last date of which is July 10, 2019. However, 16,157 number of applications complete in all respects have been submitted. University Institute of Hotel and Tourism Management (UIHTM), Panjab University (PU), Chandigarh started induction programme for newly admitted students of Bachelor of Hotel Management and Catering Technology (BHMCT) 1st semester and Bachelor of Tourism and Travel Management (BTTM) 1st semester students on 9th July 2019.
The programme was inaugurated by Prof. Lalit Kumar Bansal, Founder Director of UIHTM, Prof. Emanual Nahar, Dean Students Welfare, Dr. Anish Slath, Director UIHTM.
Prof. L.K.Bansal in his inaugural speech, congratulated students for their admissions in PU and stressed upon the importance of Discipline and Synchronization between the personal and professional life. He stated that there has to be discipline in the life to achieve success. Studies and classes apart in the broader aspect one must work in such a manner that one is able to carve the career in a planned manner.
Prof. Emanual Nahar in his speech congratulated all the students and told the students about number of hostels and informed them about facilities provided to the students in the hostel.
Dr. Anish Slath, thanked the guests and students and informed students about the quality infrastructure and other facilities provided by the institute.
Later in the day, students interacted with Prof. Prashant Kumar Gautam and Dr. Neeraj Aggarwal and were educated upon Understanding University structure, Departmental regulations and Hotel and Tourism Industry standards.

Prof Raj Kumar Vice Chancellor Panjab University released the book titled “Literary Resonances in the Corridors of Law” authored by Dr Chanchal Narang, Associate Professor, University Institute of legal Studies, PU Chandigarh in the presence of Prof. R.K. Singla, Dean Research, Prof Rajinder Kaur and Dr Sasha.
Dr Narang’s book is based on the Action Research Project that she had undertaken based on the topic, “The Impact of Teaching literature in an interactive manner on law Students’ ability to interpret literary texts.” Dr Narang had taken up this project to train the students of Law in the micro-skills of reading, which are very crucial in the legal profession. She had taken up this project in accordance with the mandate of Bar Council of India which states that “The best way to learn English is to read more and more English literature.” She had taught the students Indian literature in English so as to enable them to do the close reading of texts which would further enhance their faculties of sympathy and empathy which are essential in the legal profession.
Prof. Kumar appreciated the efforts of Dr Narang for her efforts and encouraged her to continue her academic work in the field of Language pedagogy. It is pertinent to mention here that Dr Narang is the founder teacher of UILS and has contributed two books and around 20 research papers in the field of English language Teaching in the Journals of national and International repute.
