Tree Plantation at USOL

Chandigarh July 26, 2019

 University School of Open Learning (USOL), Panjab University Chandigarh in association with NSS and horticulture
division of Panjab University organized a Tree Plantation Drive today at USOL.

 Prof. Emanual Nahar Dean Student Welfare was the Chief Guest at the occasion. The drive was initiated under the leadership of Chairperson Prof. Madhurima Verma and NSS Programme Coordinator Dr.Navdeep Sharma.

  As many as 40 saplings of different varieties such as Hibiscus, Bougainvillea, Duranta and Ficus were planted. The Programme Officers Dr. Purva Mishra, Dr. Sucha Singh, Dr. Jeesu J.Singh and Dr.Parveen coordinated the event with NSS volunteers under Swachh Bharat Summer Internship Programme for spreading the message of Swachh Bharat
Abhiyan.

British High Commission delegation met with CEO, CSCL

Chandigarh, July 26:- 

British High Commission (BHC) alongwith Department for International Development (DFID) met Commissioner Cum C.E.O, Chandigarh Smart City Ltd., Kamal Kishore Yadav, IAS, with the Deloitte team members for discussing the way forward to identify another intervention under Smart Urban Development of Indian States (SmUDI).

The emphasis during discussion was on possibilities of improvement in traffic management and to review the existing scenario for the purpose of implementation of NMT and pedestrianisation in Chandigarh and identifying the potential interventions that may be taken up during next phase of this programme.

Further discussions were held in detail on City Investment Promotion Cell and strategy for strengthening start-up eco-systems in the city. The meeting was attended by Alex Pykett, Acting Dy. High Commissioner, Charanjiv Bacchar, Dy. Head of Mission, Javaid Malla, Urban and Energy Adviser from British Deputy High Commission and Harpreet Singh Arora, Urban Adviser, DFID, Kapil Setia, Chief Architect- U.T, Shashank Ananad, Traffic SSP, Chandigarh alongwith Deloitte team members.

MCC roads committee meeting held

Chandigarh, July 26;-

 A meeting of Roads committee, Municipal Corporation Chandigarh was held here today under the chairmanship of Sh. Satparkash Aggarwal and attended by other members of the committee namely Sh. Gurpreet Singh Dhillon, Sh. Rajesh Kumar Gupta, Sh. Mahesh Inder Singh Sidhu, Sh. Shakti Parkash Devshali, Sh. Bharat Kumar, Smt. Ravinder Kaur Gujral, Sh. Charanjiv Singh, all councilors, Sh. Sanjay Arora, Superintending Engineer, B&R and concerned officers of B&R wing, MCC.

During the meeting detailed discussions were held regarding strengthening of works under the B&R wing, MCC. The members decided that the committee will visit ward wise to take stock of roads and other works falling under the B&R wing i.e. paver blocks and community centres etc.

The committee members asked the concerned officers to start patch work in the roads immediate after the monsoon season is over. The officers apprised the committee members that hot mix plant tender has been prepared and will be called shortly so that the patch work of roads be made regular affair without any kind of hindrance.

The members asked the officers to repair the footpaths wherever paver blocks have been broken and properly fix the paver blocks around the trees where breathing space had been provided to the trees. They asked to remove malba scattered throughout the road sides and open spaces immediately.

Tree Plantation Drive by Professors Emeriti at PU

Chandigarh July 25, 2019

 It was one of the rare occasions at Alumni House today when around 30 number of Professors Emeriti got together to plant 105 trees at the invitation of Prof. Deepti Gupta, Dean Alumni Relations. The group were happy to be together and called it a historic occasion because only once before had they got together at one venue. Two former Vice Chancellors Prof. M.M.Puri and Prof. R.P. Bambah were extremely happy to see the development of Alumni House under the care of Professor Anil Monga and Prof. Deepti Gupta. Every Professor selected a tree from among a sapling and planted every sapling with their own hand.

            Prof. Raj Kumar, Vice Chancellor, PU in his address called them a vulnerable Gurus of the University and said that the occasion is a symbolic one as all these Professors were responsible for the growth of wonderful tree of PU.

            Prof. Shankarji Jha, Dean University of Instructions graced the occasion and greeted everyone. By turns, each eminent personality shared his or her thoughts with the gathering.

MCC teams takes status of ongoing works

Chandigarh, July 25:- 

Following the orders of Sh. K.K. Yadav, IAS, Commissioner, Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh, different teams of engineers under the supervision of Zonal Commissioners visited various parts of city to take stock of ongoing projects and problems in the local areas.

Sh. Tilakraj, Additional Commissioner, MCC visited sector 20 and surrounding areas alongwith Executive Engineers. He directed the Medical Officer of Health to ensure regular supply of medicine at sector 20 civil dispensary and asked Executive Engineer, Horticulture to beautify the open space over there in the dispensary. He also directed the MOH and E.E., Horticulture for proper cleaning of debris and asked the Executive Engineer roads to repair boundary wall of park in front of # 688 & 689 at sector 20. He also directed to check Govt. quarters area relates to MCC or not and remove encroachments in the area near Masjid and reserve land in sector 20. The ACMC directed the Executive Engineer, Horticulture for proper maintenance of green belt opposite Masjid along with V-5 road in sector 20 and provide railing in the open space between # 1097 & 1096 and proper beautification of the area.

Sh. S.K. Jain, Additional Commissioner visited sector 44, 45 and other areas alongwith concerned Executive Engineers of MCC and directed them to clear the congress grass infront of garden of annuals, sector 44. He also directed the concerned officers to repair the notice boards installed in the garden and entry point at sector 44 & 45. He asked the enforcement inspector to remove the illegally stacked building material i.e. bricks, sand etc. in burial market in sector 45. He also directed the concerned officers to display the sign boards of “Public Utility” outside the toilet blocks prominently. In addition to that the ACMC also visited the enforcement store and C&D waste plant, Industrial area, Ph-I and directed the concerned engineers to remove the C&D waste lying in the road side from sector 31 approaching to Tribune chowk.

A team of officers also visited sector 49 alongwith area councilor Smt. Heera Negi. The area councilor and representatives of Resident Welfare Association of the area took round of the roads and streets alongwith parks, where maintenance works required to be initiated. The area councilor asked the concerned engineers to complete the ongoing maintenance works and start new works immediate after the rainy season is over.

Commissioner starts tree plantation drive in Sector 24

Chandigarh, July 25:-

 Sh. K.K. Yadav, IAS, Commissioner of Chandigarh today started tree plantation drive near park, Sector 24, Chandigarh in the presence local residents of area and other officers of MCC.

During the drives around 125 flowering shrubs & 6 trees were planted inside the local park. In addition to that 20 ornamental trees and 50 shrubs have been planted in a drive held at Valley park, Dhanas in presence of area councillor Smt. Sheela Devi and local residents.

Counselling for Reserved Seats Concludes at UILS

Chandigarh July 25, 2019

Day two of the counselling began with eagerness among candidates of Reserved Categories (SC, ST, BC, Defence, Freedom Fighter, PWD, OGC, RV) in B.A./B.Com.LL.B.(Hons.) 5 Years integrated course for the session 2019-20 held in the premises of University Institute of Legal Studies, Panjab University, Chandigarh.

Day two of the counselling was commenced with a brief oration by Prof. (Dr.) Rattan Singh, Director, University Institute of Legal Studies (UILS).

He updated the aspirants and their guardians regarding counselling process of reserved categories. For day two of
counselling, UILS had invited all the candidates from the merit list of reserved categories, B.A. LL.B.(Hons.) and B.Com.LL.B.(Hons.), against 180 reserved seats out of total of 360 seats.

On day two of the counselling, all the aspirant enlisted in the merit of reserved categories were called according to their scheduled time slots. The admission is offered only after counselling the applicants who were present along with their credentials. The UILS is looking for the best candidates of reserved categories for B.A./B.Com. LL.B.(Hons.) 5 Years integrated course.

            The UILS called aspirants of all categories (SC, ST, BC, Defence, PWD, OGC, RV etc.) on their scheduled time slots on 25th July, 2019. The teaching and non-teaching staff under the supervision of Dr. Karan, Dr. Bharat, the co-ordinators of counselling committee, 2019-20 managed the counselling of all mentioned reserved categories
on their scheduled times with efficiency. The co-ordinators built efficient teams to streamline the counselling process through helpdesk, announcement, co-ordination, attendance/undertaking, allotment of forms, food committee, hostel desk, and waiting list etc., dedicated to multiple tasks for the success of the counselling process.

Tree Plantation Drive at PU

Panjab University conducts Tree Plantaion to Commemorate 20th Anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas
Continuing with the commemoration of the 20th Anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas, Panjab University is organising various activities in the Campus. In this regard Department of Defence and National Security Studies in collaboration with Horticulture department of the University organised a tree plantation drive which was inaugurated by Prof Raj Kumar, PU VC by planting troika of trees, Peepal, Bargadh and Neem dedicated to the warriors of  Kargil War.

On this occasion Dr Jaskaran Singh Waraich, Chairperson of the deptt., along with the faculty members from various departments; Prof. A.S. Ahluwalia, Prof. Rakesh Datta, Prof Meena Dutta, Dr Gaurav Gaur, Dr. Namita Gupta, Dr Kulddep Singh, Dr Ashu Pasricha, Dr Manish Sharma; Sh. Anil Thakur, SDE Horticulture, serving officers from 
the armed forces, research scholars, and students with the help of Horticulture deptt of the University planted 527 saplings of different varieties at various places of the University. The 527 saplings are dedicated 1 each to 527 martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the honour and security of  the  nation.


 The students and faculty also pledged to adopt and take care of at least one plant each. PU VC appreciated the efforts of the Deptt. and also promised all necessary help for the future endeavours of the Department. He also appreciated the idea of naming and developing one of the park in University as ‘Kargil Vijay Udhyan’ in memory of the  brave soldiers of Kargil War. The celebrations of the Kargil Diwas will culminate with the screening of the Uri movie to the students tomorrow at English/Evening auditorium.
