*Chandigarh, May 1:-* In order to streamline parking and earn additional revenue, the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh has revamped the paid parking system after introducing digital payments through QR code aims to reduce opportunities for any kind of leakages and ensuring accuracy of revenue recorded.

In order to avoid inconvenience to the visitors and to enhance revenue generation, several improvements have been introduced by the MC Chandigarh. Proper uniform and Identity Cards have been given to parking attendants for easy identification. Payable rate lists and instructions to customers have been displayed in all the paid parking lots. The Jana Small Finance Bank Ltd. has been associated for handling of collection of paid parking and facilities provided for management of paid parking lots.

Visitors shall now be able to pay the parking fee through QR code scanner in 71 paid parking lots, which are being managed by the MC Chandigarh in sectors 5, 7, 8, 9, 17, 20, 22, 26, 34, 35, 43, Manimajra and Multiplexs of Chandigarh.

As per the rate list, currently, Rs. 7/- for two wheelers and Rs. 14/- for four wheelers (non commercial), Rs. 28/- for LCV/Mini Bus, Service Jeep/Cab/Taxi/Three Wheeler and Rs. 70/- for Tourist Buses/HCV have been displayed in the rate list.

These steps have been introduced to minimise the long queues of vehicles due to cash payments and cumbersome PoS machines at most of the parking lots, further leading to traffic chaos. 

Further , the parking staff deployed in all the paid parking lots have been provided new uniforms and Identity Cards so that visitors can identify the parking staff easily. These improvements aim to not only streamline the parking system for the visitors but also ensure better monitoring of collection of parking fee.

The Department of Biochemistry, Panjab University, Chandigarh celebrated International Day of Immunology on April 29, 2024 highlighting Wellness during Aging through Immunology. The program was supported by DBT-BUILDER grant sanctioned by the Department of Biotechnology, Govt of India. Chairperson Prof. Amarjit Singh Naura shared that the aim of this celebration  is to raise awareness pertaining to importance of immunology and immunological research in the fight for lifelong health maintenance and individual well-being. The theme this year was Immunity and Ageing: Navigating the Science of Aging and Immunology. The speakers addressed the issue through their talks. Dr. Deepak Sharma, Principal Scientist, CSIR-IMTECH, Chandigarh spoke on How immune is our immune system from ageing?  He highlighted the differences in the immune system of young and old and the requirement of keeping the immune system healthy for healthy ageing. Dr. Rupinder Kaur, CMO, Panjab University Health Center, Chandigarh delivered a talk “Understanding Human Immunology to improve public health”. She discussed  the role of diagnostic tools, immuno modulation therapies, personalised meedicine and preparedness for emerging pathogens. She reiterated that education and awareness are pivotal in encouraging a healthy lifestyle and hence lead to healthy ageing.

*Chandigarh, April 28:-* Aiming at safeguarding the life of Fire Personnel, the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh has procured 28 Pyrolene/Splash Tight Suits as well as 14 Chemical/Gas Tight Suits for the utility of it’s firefighters to protect then while responding to the various Biochemical threats.

This is the first instance when the emergency response department of Municipal Corporation has procured this kind of equipment to safeguard the life of Fire Personnel. The estimated amount for the procurement of these Personal Protective Gear is approx Rs. 51 lakhs.

This milestone exemplifies the unwavering dedication of MC Chandigarh in staying at the forefront of the emergency preparedness by  providing the firefighters with state of the art protective gears while responding to the emergency situation which will bolster their capability to handle complex challenges with utmost confidence and efficiency and will ultimately result in mitigation of loss of valuable life and property.

This step is part of the Municipal Corporation’s mission to ensure fire preparedness in the city.MCC has added 7 Bullet Motor Cycles  and 14 Water Mist and CAF High Pressure using special AFFF for Fire fighting in narrow lanes, recently.

Further, MCC has got a Tata 407 chassis fabricated with Mini Water Tender for Fire fighting in narrow lanes and for VVIP duties and fabricated a Tata 1613 chassis with Water Tender for Fire fighting duties. Additionally, 4 Tata xenon vehicles have been got fabricated with Mini Water Tender based on Water Mist Technology for Fire fighting in narrow lanes.

The MCC has also purchased inflatable emergency lighting tower .The inflatable emergency lighting tower is used at the time of major disasters like building collapse, Fire incident and in rescue operations during night hours. 5 thermal imaging detector have also been purchased for detection in smoke/smog areas having low visibility and purchased 28 Fire Proximity Suits which is one of the most important Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) used by the Fire and Rescue Services Personnel all over the world.

Fire Helmets with central touch to work during the fire operation hands free and purchased 03 Water Tender (Type-X), 56 Breathing Apparatus Sets, 24 specialized tools/Combi tools for the Rescue Operations, 3 Breathing Air Compressors i.e. Two Electrical motor Driven and One is Petrol Driven and 5 Water Tender (Type-B). Additionally, refurbishment/replacement of superstructure/chassis of 2 Hydraulic Platform-cum-Turn Table Ladder has been ordered and 7 potable tents purchased for standby duties.

In order to strengthen the Department, MCC has appointed 245 Firemen and 35 Drivers through regular recruitment in the year 2022.

Further, a Fire Safety Audit of all Commercial/Govt. establishments of the City has been done and about 6000 buildings have been issued fire advisories to meet the left out requirements at the earliest so far.

To create awareness and also to improve fire response among citizens, regular mock drills in Hospitals, Schools, Industries and with RWAs, MWAs etc are being conducted on a regular basis.

*Governor directs PGI authorities to ensure compliance with fire safety protocol and protection of patients*

*Issues strict directions to comply with Solid Waste Management Rules and set up a wet waste processing plant as per BWG norms*

*Chandigarh, April 22:-* Governor Punjab and Administrator of Chandigarh,UT, Sh Banwarilal Lal Purohit, directed the authorities of PGIMER to ensure the safety of patients and staff at PGI, the authorities must comply with the National Building Code (NBC) and instructions raised by the local civic body besides comply with Solid Waste Management Rules.

Taking serious note of the recent fire incidents at the PGI premises, a high level meeting was held under the chairmanship of Sh. Banwarilal Purohit, Governor, Punjab and Administrator, UT, Chandigarh today at Secretariat building, Sector 9, Chandigarh, which was attended by the senior officers of Chandigarh Administration among Sh. Rajeev Verma, IAS, Adviser, Sh. Nitin Kumar Yadav, IAS, Home Secretary, Sh. Vijay Namdeo Rao Jade, IAS, Finance Secretary, Ms. Anindita Mitra, IAS, Municipal Commissioner, Sh. Vinay Partap Singh, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, Dr. Vivek Lal, Director PGIMER, other senior officers, Engineers and Doctors of PGI, Senior officers of Administration and MC Chandigarh.

The Administrator directed the PGI authorities to ensure strict compliance with safety regulations and comply with the NBC norms and provide the necessary infrastructure on war footing level in the safeguard of patients and staff of PGI. He said that the PGI must conduct facility inspections, regularly train staff, maintain equipment, test evacuation plans, and enhance fire safety awareness.

 He took note  of the non-compliance of PGIMER engineering authorities, with directionsissued by the MunicipalCorporation,  Chandigarh. He said that it is very disappointing that many discrepancies were found during the inspection done by the fire & rescue services department of MCC and were communicated to the PGI authorities but nothing was done and even the PGI authorities had not bothered to obtain the Fire safety certificate.

According to the record available, the PGI authorities has obtained the Fire safety certificate for only one building out of total 17 buildings inside the PGI premises. The engineering department of the PGI had applied for the certificate in 2021 following which the Sector 11 fire station authorities had asked them to follow the fire safety guidelines as per the National Security Code. The fire department sent regular reminders to the authorities concerned at the PGI seeking update on the upgradation of fire safety process of the building but all in vain.

The Administrator further directed the PGI authorities to ensure the fire safety norms and compliance with Solid Waste Management rules as Bulk waste generator, a comprehensive review of safety protocols must be conducted with Municipal Commissioner after two months interval involving experts in fire safety and scientific disposal of healthcare waste. He directed for implementing regular fire safety drills, upgrading fire detection and suppression system and fostering a culture of safety awareness through training and accountability to mitigate risks and uphold regulatory standards, ensuring a secure environment for all within the institution.

He further directed the PGI authorities to take immediate action in the interest of public and conduct fire safety audits by external experts to identify and rectify lapses on war footing level.

The Administrator also directed the PGI authorities to comply the Solid Waste Management Rules as bulk waste generator. He was disappointed that the PGI authorities neither bother to segregate the healthcare waste from wet waste nor set up onsite wet waste processing plant. He directed the authorities to revamp the infrastructure to segregate the biomedical waste from the wet waste and set up a plant inside the premises immediately to avoid any kind of penal action taken by the local civic body.

He directed the concerned engineers of PGI to set up Effluent Treatment Plant (ETP) immediately as per the norms and obtain consent under Water Act and Air Act being a hospital with more than 100 beds and generator of waste water of more than 100 KLD, which comes under Red category industry. The PGI authorities assured to make functional ETP by December, this year.

*Chandigarh, April 19:-* Acting tough against contractors illegally extracting underground water and using for commercial purposes, the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh today lodged DDRs against three violators of village Daria, Mauli Road, Chandigarh in addition to the DDR lodged against Tiwana water tanker, private water tanker contractor of village Kajheri yesterday.

The team of municipal engineers inspected sites at village Daria and found three service stations Mahadev Service station, Hare Krishna Service station and Manu Service Auto Centre, all at village Daria, chandigarh were washing cars and other commercial vehicles at site. The team of MC engineers immediately disconnected the water connections and lodged DDR in the Police station.

The municipal team also removed the borewell from Tiwana Tankers at village Kajheri and lodged DDR against the violators.

In its mission to prevent unnecessary extraction of ground water, MCC also identified nearly 8 tubewells outside Laldora including village Dadu Majra, Dadu Majra colony, village Kajheri, Kishangarh, Daria, Dhanas and Sarangpur which were filling water tankers and supplying to the public for drinking and other purposes. The MCC has taken up the matter with the Chief Engineer, UT, Chandigarh to check for permission of tubewells and take necessary action accordingly.

Additionally, the team of MCC engineers have proposed to close 17 tube wells in different parts of city which shall lead to an increase in the water table across the city

He has an experience of more than four decades of teaching Social Work across the country. This comprehensive workshop comprised various insightful sessions tailored to cater to different segments of the audience informed Gaurav Gaur, Chairperson, Centre for Social Work. While discussing the various aspects of the research in social sciences, he elaborated the relevance of action research in context of present and future in context to social work. He also gave real life examples and shed light on research in spirituality and social work.

He shared about the importance of research and action to go simultaneously in the profession of Social Work, and how it plays a significant role in making the research work more valuable and result authentic said Prof Bhatt.

He narrated that an action research plays an important role in solving problems associated with people and society. It is a very important tool to help the masses in finding solutions to their problems.

Dr Gaurav Gaur shared that the students also received guidance on report writing and documentation, crucial skills for reflecting on and sharing their rural camp experiences which was recently conducted at Bharuch, Gujarat.
