Village development visits at Khuda Ali Sher

Chandigarh, January 29:- The village development committee for Khudda Ali Sher today visits under the chairmanship of Sh. Charanjiv Singh and other members of the committee during the visit Sh. Jagtar Singh Jagga, Deputy Mayor was also present.

During the visit the committee discussed productive measures to be taken inside Khuda Ali Sher Village and outer phirni road. The points discussed during the visit included sewage, storm and water line change. The primary issue discussed included removal of illegal encroachments. Apart from this, providing and developing green belt in the village, recarpeting of the streets and phirni road and importantly, changing electrical wires from all over the village.

“NSS Volunteers Experience Tips on Meditation and Adventurism”


        The second day of NSS Special Camp started with meditation session led by Ms. Baljit Kaur, Research Scholar, Department of Gandhian and Peace Studies, Panjab University, Chandigarh. The session was based on experiencing silence through meditation, dance and music. She focused on feeling the positivity which created a calm and peaceful environment.


                In the second session, Dr. Jeesu Jaskanwar Singh, from Department of Education, University School of Open Learning, Panjab University gave an informative talk and oriented the volunteers about the aims and objectives of NSS. Later, in the same session he talked about “Undertaking Adventure Expeditions”. He delved upon how adventure trips make difference to monotonous life of individuals. He shared his personal experiences of adventure trips and how he learnt to undertake such trips through ‘learning by doing’. As a novice, he took his first trip to Ladakh on meagre
resources but which culminated into success by getting inspiration from Dicky Dolma, the youngest Indian woman to climb Mt.Everest . He also shared such experiences gave him insights for taking calculated risks, practicing minimalism, exploring wildlife such as seeing snow leopards, ibex, and bactrian camels. The lessons he learnt and
people he met during his expeditions changed his perspectives wherein he met U.S school girls going on cycle expedition to Ladakh and a retired woman professor from Georgia Tech University on a very challenging adventure trail.


                In the post-lunch session, the students participated in slogan writing and two-minute talk on the theme “Innovative Ideas to Save Environment”. The judges for the session Prof.Swarnjit Kaur, Chairperson, PU-ISSER and Prof. Sheena Pall, USOL, Panjab University, Chandigarh applauded the students for their creative ideas. The Programme Coordinator PU, NSS, Dr. Navdeep Sharma shared that the camp has been meticulously organized by team of Programme Officers, Dr. Purva Mishra, Dr.Manjushri Sharma, Dr. Gurmeet Kaur, Dr. Navneet Kaur, Dr. Sucha Singh and Dr. Upneet Kaur Mangat.

Launch of Bollywood films shooting calendar

Chandigarh, January 28:- Mrs. Raj Bala Malik, Mayor, Chandigarh launched a Bollywood films shooting calendar prepared by national award winning actress Pragati Trikha in her office, here today.

According to the information, the calendar highlights the city beautiful and locations of the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh like- the Rose garden, Parks, Roads and Markets of Chandigarh where many famous films have been shot along with the respective month and year they were shot in. These films have highlighted the city on the world map for the last 16 years i.e from 2004 to 2019.

Meeting held to discuss development activities in Khuda Lahora village

Chandigarh, January 28:- A meeting of village development committee for the village Khudda Lahora was held in MCC under the chairmanship of Mr. Sachin Lohatiya and attended by other members for the discussion of requirements and amendments for the development of village Khudda Lahora in Chandigarh. One of the major requirements included a community centre for the public to organise public events and cultural get together. Need to increase the water pressure to be used by the residents, Opening up of a playing area for the kids, Recarpeting of the road along with the bus stop, Setting up of a hoarding highlighting the name of the village and Allowance of Sabzi Mandi once in a week were the major concerns of the members in the meeting. Apart from this, need for the repair for senior secondary school was also put up for consideration. Several other maintenance works for cleanliness, sewage and sanitation were also discussed.

चंडीगढ़ में पहली फरवरी को होगी श्री गुरु नानक देव जी की फिलास्फी पर अंतर्राष्ट्रीय कान्फ्रेंस

चीफ जस्टिस शरद अरविंद बोबदे करेंगे कान्फ्रेंस का उद्घाटन: एडवोकेट हरप्रीत सिंह बराड़

पंजाब एंड हरियाणा बार कौंसिल के चेयरमैन एडवोकेट हरप्रीत सिंह बराड़ ने बताया कि पहली पातशाही श्री गुरु नानक देव जी के 550 साला प्रकाशोत्सव के संबंध में बार कांैसिल द्वारा चंडीगढ़ में अंतर्राष्ट्रीय कान्फ्रेंस करवाई जा रही है। पत्रकारों के साथ बातचीत करते हुए एडवोकेट बराड़ ने बताया कि श्री गुरु नानक देव जी की फिलास्फी तथा उनके मौजूदा समय में प्रभाव विषय पर करवाई जा रही इस दो दिवसीय कान्फ्रेंस का उद्घाटन भारत के चीफ जस्टिस शरद अरविंद बोबदे पहली फरवरी को पंजाब यूनिवर्सिटी के जिम्नेजियम हॉल में सुबह 11 बजे करेंगे। उन्होंने बताया कि इस कान्फ्रेंस का दूसरे दिन का समागम 2 फरवरी को बाद दोपहर 12 बजे यूनिवॢसटी के लॉ भवन में होगा।

गुनिन्द्र कौर सिंह की लिखी किताब होगी रिलीज: एडवोकेट बराड़


उन्होंने बताया कि इस कान्फ्रेंस के उद्घाटन समारोह के अवसर पर यू.के. की प्रसिद्ध प्रोफेसर निक्की गुनिन्द्र कौर सिंह की लिखी किताब ‘दा फास्ट सिख- दी लाइफा एंड लीजेंसी आफ गुरु नानक’ रिलीज होगी। उन्होंने बताया कि पुस्तक रिलीज के बाद सेशन के मुख्यातिथि सुप्रीम कोर्ट के माननीय जस्टिस सूर्याकांत होंगे, जबकि उसकी अध्यक्षता इंगलंैड से आए माननीय जस्टिस चीमा करेंगे। उन्होंने बताया कि कान्फ्रेंस के 5 सेशन करवाए जाएंगे, जिनमें 118 लॉ कालेजों से आए विद्यार्थियों तथा अध्यापकों के अलावा अन्य डेलीगेट भाग लेंगे। उन्होंने बताया कि कान्फ्रेंस दौरान पढ़े जाने वाले पांच विषयों के पेपरों में से बेहतरीन पेपरों को बार कौंसिल आफ इंडिया द्वारा प्रकाशित किए जाने वाले इंडियन बार रिव्यू मैगजीन में छापा जाएगा।


उन्होंने बताया कि हर सेशन की अध्यक्षता पंजाब एंड हरियाणा हाईकोर्ट के जज सहित यूनिवर्सिटिज से आए वाइस चांसलर करेंगे। उन्होंने बताया कि कान्फ्रेंस में सुप्रीम कोर्ट भूटान के जस्टिस रिनजिन पैनजोर, श्रीलंका सुप्रीम कोर्ट के जस्टिस पीपी सुरासेना, पंजाब व हरियाणा हाईकोर्ट के चीफ जस्टिस रवि शंकर झा, बार कौंसिल आफ इंडिया के चेयरमैन मनन मिश्रा, इंटरनेशनल बार कौंसिल के चेयरमैन होरेक्यिू बरनार्डज नेटो, घाना के हाई कमिश्नर मिकाइल एएनएन उकावे तथा सुप्रीम कोर्ट दिल्ली के जस्टिस इन्दिरा बैनर्जी सेशन में भाग लेंगे।


उन्होंने बताया कि कान्फ्रेंस दौरान वातावरण प्रेमी बलबीर सिंह सीचेवाल को अंतर्राष्टीय वातावरण संभाल अवार्ड से सम्मानित किया जाएगा। इसके अलावा एसपीएस ओबराए, प्रसिद्ध पत्रकार बलजीत बल्ली तथा प्रसिद्ध कवि पदम श्री सुरजीत पात्र को भी अंतर्राष्ट्रीय सम्मान से सम्मानित किया जाएगा।


उन्होंने बताया कि आक्सफोर्ड यूनिवर्सिटी के प्रोफैसर प्रीतम सिंह कूंजीवत भाषण देंगे, जबकि वाटरलू यूनिवर्सिटी के प्रोफैसर डोरिस जैकोबस तथा कैलोफोर्निया के डा. मार्क जूनजैनमेयर भी अपने-अपने विषयों पर भाषण देंगे। इसके अलावा पूर्व अटार्नी जनरल तथा कैनेडा के फैडरल मंत्री उज्जवल दोसांझ, प्रसिद्ध योगा मास्टर तथा न्यूयार्क के सिख प्रचारक हरीनाम सिंह खालसा भी अपने विचार पेश करेंगे। उन्होंने बताया कि यू.के., यूएसए, कनाडा, आस्ट्रेलिया, मलेशिया, सिंगापुर आदि के करीबन 400 कानूनी माहिर तथा डेलीगेट इस कान्फ्रेंस में शामिल होंगे।

Republic Day Celebrated at PU

Chandigarh January 27, 2020

Patriotic fevour and enthusiasm marked the 71st Republic Day Celebrations Panjab University(PU) Campus. Prof. Raj Kumar, Vice Chancellor, PU hoisted the National Flag at the Parade Ground which was followed by the inspection of the Guard of Honour comprising various contingents.


        PU VC while felicitating the gathering, announced enhancement of cash prize to deserving employees from Rs. 2100/- to Rs. 5100/-. He informed that the preceding year has been full of various achievements on various fronts including administrative, academic and research. He further added that Panjab University has always been known
for contributing immensely to research and in order to work in this area and consolidate PU’s position further at the national and international level, work in this direction has already been initiated and are in the process of signing agreements with many Universities abroad.


        He urged all to work towards achieving  better rankings for the forthcoming NAAC inspection in 2022. It was further informed that all efforts are being taken to complete the work of Multipurpose Auditorium, Girls Hostel No. 11 and a special building for HRDC and CALEM. He urged the PU officials, faculty and employees to work together for taking PU to greater heights despite of various challenges facing the University.  PU VC informed about Rs. 50 crores grant under RUSA 2.0. Through this grant, around 140 projects including Cancer research, social issues, will be addressed.


        Prof. Kumar appeal to one and all to associate for Swachhta Campaign in making PU a beautiful Campus. He also solicited cooperation from all for encouraging use of cycles in the Campus and parking the vehicles in the parking lots instead of parking on the road. Referring to strong alumni base of PU, he said that steps are being taken to ensure that PU alumni work hand in hand for the betterment of the University.


        Earlier, Prof Karamjeet Singh, Registrar, PU in his welcome address, urged all to work hard unitedly with determination towards their day to day responsibilities to take PU ahead on the road to success.


         On this occasion, PU employees namely Ms. Varsha Luthra, PA, Mr. SK. Nair, PA, Mr. Kewal Krishan, Laboratory  Superintendent, Mr. Parminder Singh, Sr. Assistant, Mr. Kamal Dutt, Mrs. Rameshwari, Cleaner, Sh. Ram Singh, Peon, Mr. Rakesh Kumar, Peon, Sh. Bahadur, Temporary Mali,  were felicitated with cash award of Rs.2100/- each, commendation certificate and a memento in recognition of their distinguished services.


        Further,  some employees were also recognized for their work by presenting them commendation  certificate.
       

Colourful cultural programme enthralled the audience. It started with a patriotic song titled ‘Anekta Mein Ekta’ by the students of PU Music Department followed by a patriotic song Bharat Hamko Jaan Se Pyara Hai by students of Guru Gobind Singh Vidya Mandir.


        Malwai Gidha by Govt. College Karamsar and Incredible India Dance by Ankur School Students followed the patriotic song.


         All senior officials of PU, Senate and Syndicate members, Deans, PUTA President, faculty, students and their families were present on the occasion.

Mayor unfurl the National Flag at MC Building

Chandigarh, January 26:- The Municipal Corporation Chandigarh has organized a colorful function to commemorate the Republic Day in MCC building, Sector 17, here today. Smt. Raj Bala Malik, Mayor of Chandigarh was the Chief Guest on the occasion.

Kirron Kher inaugurates Green Belt at Sector 26

Chandigarh, January 25:- Smt. Kirron Kher, Member Parliament, UT, Chandigarh inaugurated a newly developed Green Belt at Sector 26 Chandigarh here today in presence of Smt. Raj Bala Malik, Mayor, Chandigarh, Sh. Dalip Sharma, area councilor, Sh. Shailender Singh, Chief Engineer, Sh. K.P. Singh, S.E. Horticulture, other councilors & officers of MCC and prominent citizens were present on the occasion.

While addressing the gathering, Smt. Kirron Kher appreciated the work done by the Municipal Corporation and said the beautiful green belt & park would be beneficial for all people, including young, old and children. She said it was the responsibility of the MC and the public to maintain the park.

The Mayor said that the green belt of Sector 26 has been developed on 2 acres of land with a walking track (footpath), chime trees, play equipment for children, benches, huts, toe wall railing, 2 high mast lights, ornamental trees and open air gym etc. at total expenditure around Rs. 40 lakh.

Village Development committee meeting held for Mauli Jagran

Chandigarh, January 25 :- A meeting of village development committee for the villages Mauli Jagran was held here today under the chairpersonship of  Dr. Jyotsna Wig and attended by Sh. K.S. Thakur & Smt. Reenu Sharma (Ex Sarpanch), Sh. Ashwani, Sh. Sohan Singh, Sh. Gurpreet Singh, Sh. Ramesh Sharma, Sh. Sukhdev Kumar, Sh. Balbir Singh & Sh. Ashok Kumar (Ex. Panch), the concerned officer and Sh. Jagrar Singh Jagga, Deputy Mayor, MCC as special invitee.

During the meeting, the committee members addressed problems raised after the mergence of villages. The main problems discussed including Recarpeting the phirni road, damaged roads, Storm water drainage system, requirement of Mali for development for parks, repair the street lights, change the water supply & sewerage lines, provision of Community Centre in the village, construction of new toilets near market.

MCC employees took pledge during National Voters’ Day

Chandigarh, January 24:-The employees of Municipal Corporation Chandigarh today took pledge during the National Voters’ Day in MCC office premises here today.

 Sh. Sanjay Kumar Jha, IAS, Special Commissioner, Municipal Corporation Chandigarh administered oath to the all the MCC employees. Sh. Tilak Raj and other senior officers were present during the oath ceremony.

All the employees pledged that  We, the citizen of India, having abiding faith in democracy, hereby pledge to uphold the democratic traditions of our country and the dignity of free, fair and peaceful elections and to vote in every election fearlessly and without being influenced by considerations of religion, race, caste, community, language or any inducement.
