Arbitration Award writing competition by UILS,PU

The Alternate Dispute Resolution(ADR) and Client Counseling Competition(CCL) Board of University Institute of Legal Studies, Panjab University, is announcing the results of the first Arbitration Award Writing Competition on 1th May 2020.

The ceremony will take place through the online medium. Justice Rajive Bhalla will be the Chief Guest. Prof.R.K. Singla,DUI  will be the guest of honour. The event is being organised under the guidance of the Faculty Chair, Prof. Shruti Bedi and the teacher coordinators and Prof. Rattan Singh, Director, UILS. 

This is the first edition of the Intra Department Arbitration Award Writing Competition 2020. This is the first time Arbitration Award Writing was introduced by the board through online aids to make sure students make the most of this quarantine.

It was well received by the students and the competition saw tremendous response. Demo sessions, online study material and talks by various professionals were made available to the participants to ensure that they are able to put their best foot forward. The final proposition was drafted by the members of the Board as well. As many as 50 entries were received from the participants.

PU Former DUI Bereaved

Rekha Jhanji, former Professor of Philosophy, and wife of Prof. Bhupinder Brar, former Dean of University Instructions, Panjab University passed away on 8th May. 

For Detailed News-

A renowned scholar of Indian Aesthetics and Existential thought, Phenomenology and Hermeneutics, she was also the founder coordinator of the UGC center for Swami Vivekananda Studies, Panjab University. She had two PhDs, one from Panjab University and the other from University of Paris X Nanterre, France. She remained associated with IIAS, Shimla as Senior Fellow for three years. Some of her seminal contribution in the field include Philosophy of Vivekananda, ‘The Human Condition in the Mahabharata, The Sensuous in Art: Reflections on Indian Aesthetics, Aesthetic Communication: The Indian Perspective . She was a prolific writer and her scholarly articles were published in journals like Comparative Aesthetics, Contemporary European Philosophy, Philosophy of Mind among others.

 Throughout her academic life , she maintained an abiding interest in elucidating the relevance of Indian Philosophy for our times. Her last project was on the Two Dimensions of Embodiment in the Indian Tradition. In her passing away the Indian Academia and Panjab University in particular have lost a dedicated scholar with great human values.

Mayor reviews MCC works with officers

Chandigarh, May 8:- Smt. Raj Bala Malik, Mayor, Chandigarh today reviewed the works related to the Municipal Corporation with Sh. K.K. Yadav, IAS, Commissioner and other officers including Sh. Anil Kumar Garg, Additional Commissioner, Sh. Shailander Singh, Chief Engineer, Sh. Sanjay Arora, SE B&R and Sh. Krishan Pal Singh, SE, Horticulture, MCC.

During the review meeting the officers apprised Mayor about the present status of works alongwith Govt. guidelines and priorities of executing civic works. She directed the concerned engineering officers to speedup the works including Roads, upgradation of water storage tank, sector 39 water works, ongoing projects of old villages and project of dark spots etc.

UIPS ORGANIZES 1ST INTERNATIONAL WEBINAR ON CORONA VIRUS

The University Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences (UIPS),Panjab University,Chandigarh organized the First International Pharmaceutical Sciences Webinar through Cisco Web-Ex meetings  Prof. D. Samba Reddy, Department of Neuroscience & Experimental Therapeutics, College of Medicine, Texas A&M University, Texas, USA,  held a Scientific Conversation & Interactive Session on Corona Virus. He gave an elaborative account of the scientific-based facts of COVID-19, its targets, prevention, new vaccines and anti-viral medicines, and common tips of surviving the outbreak.

Prof. Raj Kumar, Vice Chancellor, while inaugurating, applauded the initiative of the Institute and urged them to take up the area of Drug Discovery and Drug Development for COVID-19 and other such deadly diseases as the thrust areas of research.

IGNOU Postpones June, 2020 Exams till further Notification

Chandigarh:

IGNOU extends Admission up to 28th February, 2020

Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has decided to postpone its Term End Examination (TEE) June, 2020 which were scheduled to be held with effect from 1st June, 2020 till further notification. Dr. Anil Kumar Dimri, Regional Director, IGNOU Regional Centre Chandigarh informed that this has been done by the University due to the outburst and infectious growth of Corona Virus (Covid-19) and subsequent prolonged lockdown The next schedule of examination will be displayed on the websites of IGNOU HQs. (www.ignou.ac.in) and the Regional Centre Chandigarh (http://rcchandigarh.ignou.ac.in). All the students who have submitted the examination forms online, will be informed through phone messages (SMS), emails etc. giving a time of 15 days in advance.

Dr. Dimri advised all the concerned learners to prepare for the examination and should be ready to take the examination at short notice. The students are also advised to keep checking the status on the University’s and Regional Centre’s websites at short intervals. Further to facilitate the learners in the situation of the nationwide lockdown the University has extended the last dates for online submission of scan copy of the handwritten assignments in PDF file, Examination forms and Re-admission form upto 31st May, 2020.

Dr. Dimri also informed that for the students who have to submit project reports as part of the evaluation process in some subject, the project submission process has also been made online for which guidelines will be issued by the University separately. In respect of the programmes requiring field work and collection of primary data, exploration and analysis of secondary research data would be allowed in lieu of field work.

Commissioner launched hand disinfection smart stand at MCC building

Chandigarh, May 5:- Sh. K.K. Yadav, IAS, Commissioner, Municipal Corporation Chandigarh launched hand disinfection smart stand at MCC building, Sector 17 here today.This smart hand disinfection stand has been provided keeping in view the safety of employees of MCC coming to the office on daily basis. Having capacity of half liter sanitizer, the smart stand is sensor based battery operated hand disinfection machine, which has been installed at entry gate of MCC building.

The online Art Initiative,’How Green Was My Valley ‘ was conceived as  a  curatorial initiative by  Art History and Visual Arts Department Panjab University Chandigarh , in association  with Manasollasa Art, showcasing Art in the times of quarantine and social distancing due to Covid-19 pandemic 2020   , a situation that completely  changed  our perspective towards life and thus, connected  us globally more than we could ever have imagined . It is a time to sit back and recapitulate on how we as humans have hurt nature..Prakriti ,  whom we address as our Mother in the Indian parlance.

‘How Green Was My Valley ’, has been  contextualized and curated  by   Dr. Tirthankar  Bhattacharya, Chairperson to  delve into the relevance of Art owing to its therapeutic and visual appeal . The participants are artists   , art lovers and art connoisseurs.  The Initiative that he undertook while sitting at home received an  overwhelming response from colleagues,  friends , alumni & students breaking the geographic  barriers , making it truly International  .   34 entries were received  from Chandigarh, Delhi, Assam, Bangalore, Calcutta, Uttarakhand from India and from New Zealand taking the show beyond national boundaries.

Raam Jator & Avin Sharma, PhD Research  Scholars  helped in coordinating this Initiative which included  structuring  ideas to designing the attractive online  exhibition and  collating the art works .

Joshi Foundation’s community kitchen ends

1,07,300 food packets distributed in 32 days; UT SSP IPS Nilambari Jagadale distributed the food on last day

The Joshi Foundation and Heart Foundation today announced closing of their community kitchen, set up to cater the needy persons in the Covid-19 crisis, at the Sector 15 community kitchen today.

On the last day, UT SSP Mrs. Nilambari Jagadale, IPS, handed over the last consignment of free food packets to the UT Administration. The service today ended on its 32nd day, as it was started on April 3.

As many as 1,07,300 food packets were distributed among the needy, poor, downtrodden. Under this ‘Jan Jan Bhojan’, free food packets were distributed at Sectors 14, 15, 16, 24, PGI, Panjab University and also at periphery areas including, Kachi Colony Dhanas, EWS Colony Dhanas, Small Flats Maloya and Nayagaon. According to Vineet Joshi, Chairman of Joshi Foundation, the service was started with a sole aim of helping the needy people. “Till date, we have distributed over 1.7 lakh food packets. On daily basis, we provided 2000 food packets to the UT Administration and another 2000 food packets were distributed to the needy directly in various sectors and periphery areas of the city,” said Vineet Joshi.

Dr HK Bali, Chairman Heart Foundation, and Saurabh Joshi, President Joshi Foundation, also presented a vote of thanks to all the volunteers who made this community kitchen a success. “Our aim was to keep alive the spirit of humanity. We have done our best to bestowed the needy with food,” saidBali.

till May 17, 2020, informed Prof Karamjeet Singh, Registrar.
