*Mayor dedicates park to citizens at sector 41 B*

*Chandigarh, August 16:-* Sh. Kuldeep Kumar, Mayor, Chandigarh today dedicated a beautiful park at sector 41 B, here in the presence of area councillor Sh. Hardeep Singh Butrela, other councillors, Senior citizens, representative of RWAs and residents of surrounding area.

Spread about 1700 sq. meter area, the park has been developed by providing and installing gym, hut, benches and landscaping works by grassing, planted ornamental, specimen and flowering shrubs at a cost of Rs 12 lakhs.

In addition to that, Garden lights amounting Rs. 2.50 lacs have also been installed in this park and a footpath has also been provided besides providing gymnastic equipments in 4 parks in the nearby area of the sector 41 at a cost of Rs 11.90 lakhs.

While speaking on the occassion, the Mayor said that this park will be beneficial for children, youths and elderly people having gym, Huts, benches and footpath alongwith beautiful landscaping in the park.

IGNOU extends Fresh Admission & Re-Registration up to 31st August, 2024

Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has extended the last date for online admission to all Masters, Bachelors, PG Diploma, Diploma and Certificate programmes and online Re-registration of all Masters and Bachelors for the session July, 2024 session till 31st August, 2024. Dr. Bhanu Pratap Singh, Senior Regional Director of IGNOU Regional Center Chandigarh informed that interested applicants can apply through online link for admission to any Masters, Bachelors, PG Diploma, Diploma and Certificate programmes of their choice: https://ignouadmission.samarth.edu.in/ which is available on IGNOU website www.ignou.ac.in.

SC/ST students will be admitted without charging any fee in some of the Diploma/PG Diploma & Graduate Programmes and they will have to apply online and to upload all necessary documents for fee exemption. For further information regarding the courses on offer the applicants may see the IGNOU website (www.ignou.ac.in) or IGNOU Chandigarh’s website (www.rcchandigarh.ac.in and IGNOU Regional Center Chandigarh’s Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/RCCHD .

*Mayor hoists the National Flag at MC Building*

*Chandigarh, August 15:-* The Municipal Corporation Chandigarh has organized a simple function to commemorate the Independence Day in MCC building, Sector 17, here today. Sh. Kuldeep Kumar, Mayor, Chandigarh was the Chief Guest on the occasion.

While addressing the councilors and senior officers, officials and representatives from NGOs on the occasion after hoisting the National Flag, Mayor said that this was a day of introspection for all of us to see if we have fulfilled the dreams of our great freedom fighters.

Earlier, Sh. Kuldeep Kumar, Mayor and Ms. Anindita Mitra, IAS, MC Commissioner, awarded commendation certificates to the Municipal Corporation officials and awarded appreciation certificates to the representatives of NGOs and social activists.

The Mayor highlighted the initiatives/projects of the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh during his speech. He lauded the efforts of Safaimitras, Safai Sainiks, Malis, labourers and all officers and officials of Municipal Corporation for contributing their best to maintain the beauty of city beautiful.

He said that every councillor, officer and employee in the Corporation is engaged in serving the people with full diligence and determination, whether it is the successful operation of the 24×7 water supply project on a pilot basis in Manimajra, proper disposal and processing of garbage in Dumajra, proper maintenance of the city’s parks and green belts or the maintenance of street lights. He said that apart from serving for the basic works in the city, the corporation plays an excellent role in the field of public participation. He expressed his heartfelt gratitude to all the employees and officers.

On this occasion, he also expressed his heartfelt gratitude to Chandigarh’s popular MP Sh. Manish Tiwari, who contributes significantly to the development work of the corporation with his able guidance and he will continue to do so in the future as well, for which the city residents will always be grateful to him, said the Mayor.

As a Member of Parliament from Chandigarh, the Hon’ble MP has raised various issues while representing the city in the Parliament, including Metro project, share wise property, Lal dora, etc. along with his demand for a Rajya Sabha seat for Chandigarh is also commendable, so that Chandigarh can be represented in the Rajya Sabha as well, the Mayor said.

The Mayor further said that from time to time, whenever the Municipal Corporation faces any kind of problem or needs funds, His Excellency the Governor of Punjab and the Administrator of Chandigarh have always come forward to help out. On this occasion, he expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the Administrator of Chandigarh, Sh. Gulab Chand Kataria saying that he is a skilled personality and a wise man. We hope that in the coming times too, he will continue to guide and contribute in the development of the city being done by the Municipal Corporation, said the Mayor.

*MC Chandigarh honours MWAs and RWAs in Tiranga Samaan Samaroh*

*Chandigarh, August 14:-* The Municipal Corporation Chandigarh today honoured Resident Welfare Associations and Market Welfare Associations during Tiranga Samaan Samaroh. The Associations participated in Tiranga Pratiyogita conducted by the Municipal Corporation from August 10 to 12.

City Mayor Sh. Kuldeep Kumar gave away awards to the participating RWAs and MWAs in the presence of MC Commissioner Ms. Anindita Mitra, Councillors Sh. Damanpreet Singh, other councilors and prominent persons of city at the Tiranga Samaan Samaroh held at Community Centre Sector 21 today evening.

The Mayor lauded the efforts of all participating RWAs and MWAs to showcase beautiful displays under the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign. He said that this event has not only promoted patriotism but also fostered community spirit, with both MWAs and RWAs coming together to showcase their creativity and enthusiasm. He said that the Tiranga Pratiyogita has demonstrated that community engagement and patriotism can go hand-in-hand, creating a meaningful and impactful celebration of India’s independence.

*Citizens of Chandigarh can deposit damaged/torn National flags at Community Centres till 21st August*

*MC Chandigarh issues guidelines for proper disposal of National flags*

*Chandigarh, August 14:-* To ensure proper disposal of the damaged/torn National flag under the central government’s ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign, the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh has set up collection centres in all its community centres throughout city, where citizen can deposit damaged or torn National flag if any. The collection centres shall be operational till 21st August, 2024.

MC Commissioner Ms. Anindita Mitra, IAS directed all the concerned officers and officials that in case any National flag is found soiled, distorted and damaged, it should be deposited in the nearby Community centre. Thereafter, soiled, distorted, damaged or broken National flag would be disposed of as per the directions issued by the Ministery of Home Affairs under Flag Code of India 2002 under Section-V (misuse) and in terms of the Prevention of Insults to National Honour Act, 1971 (as amended).

She said that the Corporation attaches great importance to the Tricolour. She directed all the concerned officers/officials that when a flag is damaged or gets soiled, it should not be thrown aside or disposed of casually, but shall be disposed of with the dignity attached to the flag in accordance with the rule in the flag code.

She appealed to the citizens of city beautiful to deposit National flags if found in public places in damaged or torn condition till 21st August, 2024 in the collection centres nearby their Community centres.

*Safaimitras marches ‘Tiranga Yatra’ through city streets*

*Chandigarh, August 13:-* Celebrating Inda’s 78th anniversary a massive ‘Tiranga Yatra’ with approximately 500 Safaimitras of Chandigarh city and officials of Municipal Corporation Chandigarh marched in city beautiful here today.

The ‘Tiranga’ rally led by MC Commissioner Ms. Anindita Mitra, IAS, started from Water Works, Sector 15 passed through various markets and culminated at Water Works sector 37. The rally was observed to foster Nationalism and love for the country. The initiative was marked as a part of the Government’s ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign.

Speaking on the occasion, the MC Commissioner said that this response of Safaimitras will inspire not only the working class but also the local citizens in their respective areas of working including sectors, villages and rehabilitation colonies. She urged citizens to share their photos along with the National flag on the official website dedicated to the campaign.

After the ‘Tiranga Yatra’ all the participants pledged under the theme ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign aimed to raise awareness of the Indian National Flag and increase the sense of Patriotism.

The Centre for Police Administration, Panjab University, Chandigarh in collaboration with ITBP, Basic Training Centre (BTC), Bhanu, Panchkula, Haryana organized an event of                       Pre-Independence Day celebration on 12th August, 2024. Dr. Tek Chand, DIG, ITBP, BTC honoured Dr. Kuldeep Singh, Chairperson, Centre for Police Administration, Panjab University, Chandigarh by presenting a memento of ITBP.

The ITBP, BTC demonstrated different activities at the Emerging Areas Building, Panjab University, Chandigarh. A motorcycle show presenting the different formations on motorcycles reflected the indomitable courage of our soldiers. Mahila Piping Band donning traditional bag piping attire played the bag pipes and side drums. The Thumping Jazz Band rejuvenated the spirit of patriotism among the audience with their patriotic songs.

Dr. Kuldeep Singh, Chairperson appreciated the ITBP, BTC for conducting the various activities in a meticulous manner and expressed his heartfelt gratitude for their endeavour.

*Chandigarh, August 12:-* Celebrating Inda’s 78th anniversary a massive ‘Tiranga Yatra’ with approximately 1000 members of city level Self Help Groups and officials of Municipal Corporation Chandigarh took place in city beautiful on Monday.

The ‘Tiranga’ rally led by MC Commissioner Ms. Anindita Mitra, IAS, was observed to foster Nationalism and love for the country. The initiative was marked as a part of the Government’s ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign.

The event was set off at the central plaza, sector 17 and other markets of city. The participants marched towards the sector 22 market and the rally terminated with a return march to the MC office building, sector 17, Chandigarh.

While speaking on the occasion, the MC Commissioner said that this sentiment of city level Self Help Groups will inspire the masses in their respective areas of working including sectors, villages and rehabilitation colonies. She urged citizens to share their photos along with the National flag on the official website dedicated to the campaign.

After the ‘Tiranga Yatra’ all the participants assembled in a signature campaign aimed to raise awareness of the Indian National Flag and increase the sense of Patriotism.

*Chandigarh, August 12:-* Aiming to promote patriotism and community spirit among Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs)  and Market Welfare Associations (MWAs), the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh has successfully conducted ‘Tiranga Pratiyogita’ among participating 14 RWAs and 11 MWAs.

The RWAs and MWAs showcased their creativity and enthusiasm with various activities and highlighted the significance of the Tiranga and the importance of National pride. Young kids at Sector 51 participated in a colorful programme, dressed up as Freedom fighters, singing National songs and reciting slogans and poems. Similarly in sector 38 a unique handmade sheet paper meshing and creative selfie point featuring peacock, India’s National bird was a highlight.

In sector 22 RWA, women took the centre stage by performing an act/play on the importance of the Tiranga and its pride for Indians. In sector 27 three creative selfie points were made from waste material like ice cream sticks and buttons were set up for men, women and children promoting sustainability and patriotism. In Sector 33 children showcased their artistic skills with handmade drawings for Independence day, using rice, pulses and paint shading. The message of National pride was effectively delivered to each household, with active participation from women and specially abled children.

In MWAs sector 22 made great display of Tiranga and freedom fighters. Eco Tiranga arts were displayed besides beautiful tricolor lighting and distributing Tirangas to the visitors. In Sector 24, Vande Matram was displayed with beautiful rangoli colours and floral décor with Tiranga and displayed Har Dukaan Tiranga.

While speaking about the initiative, MC Commissioner Ms. Anindita Mitra, IAS said that the Tiranga Pratiyogita has not only promoted patriotism but also fostered community spirit, with RWAs and MWAs coming together to showcase their creativity and enthusiasm. *MCC teams swing into action to clear water logging and remove fallen trees across city during heavy rainfall today*

*Chandigarh, August 11:-* During the heavy rain seen today, the Municipal Corporation chandigarh swung into action to clear waterlogging in the city.

Following the orders of MC Commissioner Ms. Anindita Mitra, IAS, Engineering teams led by Sh. N.P Sharma, Chief Engineer expeditiously pumped out water from different parts of city by deployment of machinery and manpower. The trees, which fell during the rain were lifted immediately to restore traffic in the city.

The control centres, which had been set up by the MCC, were fully operational. These centres can be reached out by the citizens in case of emergency due to waterlogging etc.

The Commissioner said that these control centres have been made operational round the clock, in three shifts. Residents can lodge complaints of water logging during rains at the given numbers, and teams shall be despatched immediately. 

She said that all team leaders will arrange required labour for the removal of the blockage in stormwater drainage during rain. Teams will also work under the supervision of divisional officers. Sub-divisional engineers of the road wing of the concerned area and the MOH wing will also move in their areas with sufficient labour to get any blockage removed at any point of the road due to depression/grass on berms or any other reason in the areas under their jurisdiction respectively.
