Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has launched a Master’s Degree Programme in Sanskrit from July, 2020 admission Cycle through Open and Distance Learning (ODL) mode. The programme has been designed and developed with academic consultation and support of the eminent scholars in the field of Sanskrit across the country. Due to COVID-19 pandemic, the launch programme was done in a virtual mode via Google Meet in which many distinguished scholars of Sanskrit language and literature from the various parts of the country were present along with the Directors of School of Studies of IGNOU, teachers and academics from IGNOU HQs and Regional Centres. In this launch programme Prof. Nageshwar Rao, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor of IGNOU declared the admission open in the MA Sanskrit programme from July, 2020 Session. There is a great demand for this programme and lots of students are expected to enroll in this programme to take advantage of the flexibility which IGNOU offers to its learners. The launch programme was broadcast live on Facebook page of IGNOU and also live streamed through Gyan Dhara, the University’s Internet based channel.
Dr. Anil Kumar Dimri, Regional Director, IGNOU Regional Centre Chandigarh informed that students with graduation in any discipline can take admission in MA Sanskrit programme. He further informed that the last date for admission in July, 2020 Session of IGNOU for all the Masters, Bachelors, PG Diploma and Diploma Programmes is 31st July, 2020. Taking cognizance of the fact that an employee posted in re-evaluation branch of Panjab University, Chandigarh is found Corona positive and that it is suspected that she and her family might had contact tracing with employees of other branches, The Competent Authority has approved that, as a matter of caution, the Administrative block and Aruna Ranjit Chandra Hall of PU shall remain closed for 3 days i.e. upto 26th June 2020.
In the mean time all the officers (Deputy Registrars and Assistant Registrars) posted in these blocks shall seek information from officials under their charge as to whether they had any contact with the employees who have been found Corona positive.
Prof Karamjeet Singh, Registrar informed that if there is any scheduled meeting or last date for submission of document during these days, the same stand postponed to next working day. However, the situation will be reviewed on 26th June 2020 for chalking out the further course of action, he added. In the meantime, complete sanitisation of the two buildings has been done today.
With the initiatives of Ministry of Human Resource and Development, under the aegis of Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya National Mission on Teachers and Teaching, the Center for Academic Leadership and Education Management (CALEM) running in Panjab University Chandigarh has taken an initiative to arrange an Online seven days Faculty Development Programme from June 24-29, 2020 on the theme of “Managing Virtual Classroom and Open Education Resources”.
More than 700 participants from 30 universities from India got registered for this workshop. More than 100 teachers of Panjab University, Chandigarh are also participating in this workshop. The course is coordinated by Dr Vishal Sharma (Coordinator, Swayam), Dr Kanwalpreet Kaur (Chairperson, IETVE), Dr Tejinderpal Singh, (UBS), Prof. Kirandeep Singh (Chairperson, Deptt. of Education); Prof. Jatinder Grover (Coordinator CALEM and Dean, Faculty of Education), Panjab University, Chandigarh.
Prof. R.K. Singla, Dean of University Instructions, Panjab University, Chandigarh welcomed all the dignitaries and participants. He shared that the main objective of this faculty development programme is to create awareness among faculty members about the Open Educational Resources and online teaching-learning tools. Learning of these tools and techniques will help the faculty members to design their own online courses as well as e-content for the virtual classroom teaching. Prof. Rajbir Singh Ji, Honourable Vice-Chancellor, Maharishi Dayanand University, Rohtak inaugurated the workshop. He highlighted the need for training the teachers about using the technology tools to supplement and complement the learning. The status of the teacher cannot be compromised as teachers have to take the responsibility of development of students, society and country. He shared that plenty of material related to all subjects is available at ConsortiumforEducational Communication, aninter-university centre ofUniversityGrantsCommission(UGC) dedicated tothecauseofdigitaleducationinIndia. He endorsed that universities have to take the initiative to orient the teachers to plan teaching models through online mode.
Prof. Rekha Koul, Dean International, Curtin University, Perth, Australia delivered the keynote address. She shared that in the Indian education system there is a gap in theory and practice. Policy planners and teachers have to plan to narrow down this gap. She said that in India, not a single instructional model can work due to socio-cultural diversity. She elaborated on the relevance of constructivist pedagogy, blended learning, flipped classroom in the present scenario. She stressed that collaboration is the major 21st-century skill that every student has to learn for managing all stress and adjustment related issues in the work environment. Indian schools have to adopt new norms for evaluation like the norm- referenced testing, two or three-tier multiple-choice questions to have an in-depth analysis of the knowledge of students. For reliable and valid evaluation, rubrics for evaluation need to be developed. She highlighted the need to change the mindset of parents in India who are still asking about the rank of their kid in the class. Parents have to know the actual learning of their kids. In the second session, Dr Amarendra Behera, Joint Director, CIET, NCERT, New Delhi elaborated upon the initiatives of Govt. of India related to online platforms. During the period of COVID-19, teachers have to learn about the synchronous or asynchronous mode of blending. Television and Radio networks have to be used to cater to the needs of students living in hilly and inaccessible areas.
In the third session, Prof. Srinivasa K.G., NITTTR, Chandigarh dwelled on the usage of Open Education Resources for developing e-content. He demonstrated the application of various open education resources for developing e-content.
Prof. Jatinder Grover, Coordinator CALEM shared that This current COVID-19 pandemic has changed our lifestyle and given us various new normal’s including in the field of education.In the current COVID-19 pandemic, there has been a rise in search on google on the themes “how to teach online”, “best virtual learning platforms”, “online teaching tools”, and “open education resources” etc. Teachers who were not ready to use technology, now have to take the bull by its horns. Others who are efficient in using all these resources and platforms require some re-learning.

Chandigarh, June 24:- A meeting of Slum, Colony & Village Committee, Municipal Corporation Chandigarh was held here today under the chairmanship of Sh. Bharat Kumar, Councillor and attended by other members of committee namely Jagtar Singh Jagga, Deputy Mayor, Sh. Hardeep Singh, Sh. Mahesh Inder Singh Sidhu, Sh. Ajay Dutta, Haji Mohd. Khurshid Ali, councillors and concerned officers of MCC.
During the meeting the members decided to provide & install indicator boards in all the villages at entry points. The members discussed about the special budget dedicated to the development of villages and asked the concerned officers to prepare details of 25 crore budget alongwith ongoing projects and unspent budget before next meeting of the committee.
The members asked the engineers to check the water supply pipe lines and sewerage pipelines in some villages and appoint nodal officers for monitoring of the development works in these villages. The committee members asked the concerned officers to prepare details of 8 crore special budget spent on the village development during the previous financial year.
The committee asked the officers to table the agenda regarding bylaws of villages during the next meeting to tackle with the local problems. About dark spots, the members asked the electrical engineers to prepare details of MoU signed with the EESL for providing lights in dark spots throughout villages and put up in the next meeting. The members asked the engineers to replace damaged electric polls and wires to be fixed properly in the villages. The members also asked the public health engineers to replace sewerage covers in the villages. The members asked the engineers to repair the dug up roads, which were left open after repair work of water supply pipe lines in some of the villages.

सेक्टर 17 थाना क्षेत्र अंतर्गत आने वाले बैंक स्क्वायर के पास मौजूद स्टेट बैंक ऑफ इंडिया के लोकल हेड ऑफिस के पीछे सड़क पर एक लड़की के कटे हुए पैर मिलने से सनसनी फैल गई है। लड़की के दोनों पैर के टुकड़े सेक्टर-17 से प्रेस लाइट प्वाइंट की तरफ आने वाली सड़क के पास मौजूद साइकिल ट्रैक के पास झाड़ियों के पास से मिले है। सूचना मिलते ही मौके पर सेक्टर 17 थाना पुलिस समेत वरिष्ठ अधिकारियों ने जांच शुरू कर दी।
घटनास्थल पर बुलाई गई सीएफएसएल टीम ने लड़की के कटे हुए शहर को कब्जे में लेकर घटनास्थल से कुछ और सैंपल लिए हैं। अधिकारी सूत्रों की माने तो लड़की के कटे हुए पैरों को देखने से मामला हत्या का ही लग रहा है। हालांकि पुलिस यह भी पता लगाने में लगी है कि कहीं पैर का एक टुकड़ा मेडिकल स्टूडेंट्स की पढ़ाई के लिए तो नहीं ले जाया जा रहा था। दरअसल मेडिकल स्टूडेंट्स की पढ़ाई के लिए भी इस तरह से शरीर के टुकड़े डोनेट की हुई बॉडीज से निकाल कर रखे जाते हैं।जिस हिसाब से लड़की का पैर मिला है उसे देखते हुए लग रहा है कि वारदात को एक-दो दिन के भीतर ही अंजाम दिया गया है। पुलिस मामले की जांच कर रही है।

Researchers can write their concerns/queries directly to the office of Dean Research. PU will facilitate them in the best possible manner. They were informed that online meeting is being allowed for conduct of PhD viva, meeting of Research Degree Committee for synopsis approval. Showing his worry for Research to start at the earliest, he responded to queries of scholars and assured them that PU will facilitate in every possible manner for research activities .
This was part of series initiated by Panjab University in partnership with Research for Resurgence Foundation organised Knowledge Forum: Interactive Sessions with PhD Research Scholars through online mode in order to create the Best Research environment.
Panjab University Neerja Bhanot Hall, Girls Hostel number 10 and International Hostel organised an interactive session today on the topic “Student Reflection: My life during Covid-19”. Wardens, Dr.Archana Chauhan ,Girls Hostel 10, Dr.Harveen Kaur International Hostel , Dr.Ravneet Kaur (GH3),Dr. Sanjeev Gautam Boys Hostel 3, Dr.Varinder Negi .Boys Hostel 2 coordinated the session.
The session started with the address by the Dean Student Welfare (Women) Prof. Sukhbir Kaur. She assured the students that the Panjab University authorities are well aware of the difficulties faced by the students and will take the decision keeping in view the safety and well-being of the students.
During this session, Students representatives such as Manpreet Mahal (Council secretary-2019-20), Paramveer, Kanurpiya, Amandeep Kaur and Diskha Bhanot along with others interacted with the residents of the hostels. The representatives thanked the authorities for starting the webinar and interactive session series as they feel connected with the University. They also expressed their satisfaction on the measures taken by the PU authorities towards the students during this pandemic. Following this, students shared their experiences as well their perspective during the lockdown in wake of COVID pandemic. Different aspects of students’ lives and how the lockdown and the COVID pandemic has affected their life was dealt upon by the students in this interactive session. The issues discussed by the students ranged from self-introspection during lockdown, spending quality time with parents, missing Panjab University campus life, to social issues like stress management during Covid, emotional turmoil etc. Students shared that they took full advantage of the lockdown to pursue their hobbies like cooking, painting, embroidery, story writing etc apart from studying their subjects. They also expressed their happiness that the pandemic allowed them to spend quality time with their families which otherwise, they could not have imagined. Around 100 number of Student participated.

पेट्रोल-डीजल की कीमतों में लगातर बढ़ौतरी को लेकर इनेलो नेता चौधरी अभय सिंह चौटाला ने केंद्र व भाजपा-जजपा सरकार को आड़े हाथों लेते हुए कहा कि ये जनता के घावों पर नमक छिडक़ने जैसा है। पिछले १६ दिनों में डीजल ९.४५ रुपए व पेट्रोल ८.३० रुपए प्रति लीटर महंगा हो गया है।
केंद्र व राज्य सरकार लगातार टैक्स में वृद्धि कर तेल की दामों को बढ़ा रही है और यह वृद्धि अब तक की सबसे बड़ी बढ़ौतरी है। इनेलो नेता ने कहा कि कोरोना महामारी के चलते जहां सभी काम धंधों पर बुरा असर पड़ा है वहीं लोगों को अपनी नौकरियों से हाथ धोना पड़ रहा है व बेरोजगारी अपने चरम पर पहुंच गई है। अंतर्राष्ट्रीय बाजार में कच्चे तेल के दाम सबसे निचले स्तर पर पहुंच गए हैं लेकिन सरकार लगातार तेल की दामों में बढ़ौतरी कर जनता के साथ अन्याय कर रही है।
उन्होंने कहा कि मंदी से त्रस्त ट्रांसपोर्टर व ऑटोमोबाइल उद्योग के लिए स्थिति बेहद चिंताजनक हो गई है। तेल के दामों में वृद्धि से खाने-पीने व जरूरत की चीजें महंगी हो जाएंगी जिससे आम जनता पर महंगाई की मार पड़ेगी। किसानों के लिए खेती पर भी बुरा असर पड़ेगा व फसल उगाना और भी महंगा हो जाएगा। फसलों की लागत बढऩे से किसानों की आर्थिक स्थिति पर बुरा असर पड़ेगा।उन्होंने कहा कि सरकार को पेट्रोल-डीजल के दामों पर लगे टैक्स को कम करके इस बढ़ौतरी को रोकना चाहिए ताकि आम जनता इस बढ़ती महंगाई से निजात पा सके।
अगर सरकार ऐसे ही तेल के दाम लगातार बढ़ाती रही तो वो दिन दूर नहीं जब लोग सरकार के खिलाफ सडक़ों पर उतरकर आंदोलन करने पर मजबूर हो जाएंगे। इनेलो नेता ने कहा कि कच्चे तेल की कीमतें घटने के बावजूद भी भाजपा की सरकार ने आम आदमी को राहत देने की बजाय उनकी जेबों पर डाका डालने का काम किया है।
