*Chandigarh, August 12:-* Aiming to promote patriotism and community spirit among Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs)  and Market Welfare Associations (MWAs), the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh has successfully conducted ‘Tiranga Pratiyogita’ among participating 14 RWAs and 11 MWAs.

The RWAs and MWAs showcased their creativity and enthusiasm with various activities and highlighted the significance of the Tiranga and the importance of National pride. Young kids at Sector 51 participated in a colorful programme, dressed up as Freedom fighters, singing National songs and reciting slogans and poems. Similarly in sector 38 a unique handmade sheet paper meshing and creative selfie point featuring peacock, India’s National bird was a highlight.

In sector 22 RWA, women took the centre stage by performing an act/play on the importance of the Tiranga and its pride for Indians. In sector 27 three creative selfie points were made from waste material like ice cream sticks and buttons were set up for men, women and children promoting sustainability and patriotism. In Sector 33 children showcased their artistic skills with handmade drawings for Independence day, using rice, pulses and paint shading. The message of National pride was effectively delivered to each household, with active participation from women and specially abled children.

In MWAs sector 22 made great display of Tiranga and freedom fighters. Eco Tiranga arts were displayed besides beautiful tricolor lighting and distributing Tirangas to the visitors. In Sector 24, Vande Matram was displayed with beautiful rangoli colours and floral décor with Tiranga and displayed Har Dukaan Tiranga.

While speaking about the initiative, MC Commissioner Ms. Anindita Mitra, IAS said that the Tiranga Pratiyogita has not only promoted patriotism but also fostered community spirit, with RWAs and MWAs coming together to showcase their creativity and enthusiasm. She said that the event has demonstrated that community engagement and patriotism can go hand-in-hand, creating a beautiful and meaningful celebration.

*MCC teams swing into action to clear water logging and remove fallen trees across city during heavy rainfall today*

*Chandigarh, August 11:-* During the heavy rain seen today, the Municipal Corporation chandigarh swung into action to clear waterlogging in the city.

Following the orders of MC Commissioner Ms. Anindita Mitra, IAS, Engineering teams led by Sh. N.P Sharma, Chief Engineer expeditiously pumped out water from different parts of city by deployment of machinery and manpower. The trees, which fell during the rain were lifted immediately to restore traffic in the city.

The control centres, which had been set up by the MCC, were fully operational. These centres can be reached out by the citizens in case of emergency due to waterlogging etc.

The Commissioner said that these control centres have been made operational round the clock, in three shifts. Residents can lodge complaints of water logging during rains at the given numbers, and teams shall be despatched immediately. 

She said that all team leaders will arrange required labour for the removal of the blockage in stormwater drainage during rain. Teams will also work under the supervision of divisional officers. Sub-divisional engineers of the road wing of the concerned area and the MOH wing will also move in their areas with sufficient labour to get any blockage removed at any point of the road due to depression/grass on berms or any other reason in the areas under their jurisdiction respectively.

The municipal corporation has launched the Har Ghar Tiranga campaign in a unique fashion. In the Har Mohalla Tiranga Har dukaan Tiranga campaign a city wide inter MWA and inter RWA competition has been launched. The market or residential area can decorate their areas by

1.           *Creative Selfie Point:* Design and create a selfie point that showcases the spirit of India’s tricolors, promoting creativity and patriotism.

2.           *Eco-Tiranga Art:* Create eco-friendly artworks using recycled materials and sustainable practices, reflecting themes of environmental conservation and patriotism.

3.           *Tiranga-Themed Attire/Fashion:* Showcase creative interpretations of the Indian flag’s colors through innovative attire, accessories, badges, and styling ideas, expressing patriotism through fashion.

4.           *Banners/Lighting:* Decorate premises with tricolor lights.

5.           *Har Dukaan/Mohalla Tiranga:* Every shop/residence can unfurl the National Flag.

6.           *Tirange Ka Mahotsav:* Combine any or all of the above activities and play patriotic songs to create a fervent patriotic atmosphere.

The direct observation of Tiranga Pratiyogita amongst Market Welfare Associations and Resident Welfare Association will start from Monday.

14 RWAs and 11 MWAs have registered with Municipal Corporation to participate in Har Mohalla Tiranga and Har Dukaan Tiranga Pratiyogita . Direct observation by Independent adjudication teams.

The team of adjudication consists of one social activist, one student and one Self Help Group member .

The team will go to the field inspections for direct observation according to the rule and final results will be declared on 13th August, 2024. The best three winning RWAs and MWAs will be honoured by Hon’ble Administrator UT during the Independence day programme scheduled to be held on 15th August, 2024. Remaining participants will be honoured on 14th August in Tiranga Samman Samaroh at Nehru park.

*Chandigarh, August 10:-* Municipal Corporation’s grand Zero Waste Teej Mahotsav celebrations have begun today at the Garden of Shrubs, Sector 46-C, Chandigarh. Sh. Kuldeep Kumar, Mayor, Chandigarh inaugurated the two-day colorful Zero Waste Teej Mahotsav in the Garden of Shrubs, Sector 46, today in the presence of Sh. Gurpreet Singh Gabi, area councillor, other councillors, prominent persons of City Beautiful, officers of MCC and citizens.

The two-day mela dedicated to the “Har Ghar Tiranga: My Nation, My Pride” theme, featured Punjabi, Haryanvi, Rajasthani folk dances, songs, fusion of Giddha & Bhangra and Teeian de Geet by famous artists from various states. The audience present at the mela could not resist dancing to the foot-tapping beats of “Dhol” and popular Punjabi numbers.

The Mayor stressed the necessity to perpetuate cultural values among the masses, especially the younger generation. He also enlightened the gathering about the social, religious and historical significance of the Teej Mahotsav.

Addressing the gathering, the Mayor said that Municipal Corporation Chandigarh has made this mela an annual feature and this time dedicated it to Har Ghar Tiranga under the “My Nation, My Pride” theme. He expressed the hope that the people of Chandigarh would learn about their rich culture, and the Municipal Corporation is making a small effort to preserve the precious traditional festivals like Teej.

He further appreciated the efforts of the MC Chandigarh in making the two-day mela a zero-waste event, commending the commitment to sustainability demonstrated by the festival.

Municipal Commissioner Ms. Anindita Mitra, IAS acknowledged the tireless efforts of the entire team in making this year’s celebration memorable while maintaining cleanliness and hygiene.

The festival embraced a zero-waste initiative, showcasing the civic body’s unwavering commitment to sustainability. The MC team and the SHGs (Self-Help Groups) aimed to raise awareness about waste management, recycling products, composting, and community empowerment. Various services of MCC were showcased, including Fire & Emergency Services, Safaimitra, Swachh Bharat Mission, C&D Waste Recycled Products, Horticulture Waste Products, Home Composting, Prarambh- Arpan products from Floral Waste, NAYA SA, Bartan Bhandar ,Safai Mitra Equipment Stalls, and Fire Rescue Services.

To enhance the festival experience for visitors, MC Chandigarh provided public amenities, including a lost and found counter, a medical counter, water facilities, and clean and hygienic public conveniences.

As part of its commitment to sustainability, the MCC organized the eco-friendly ‘Zero Waste Rasoi’ food court, offering reasonably priced food items within the festival premises. The use of plastic items was strictly prohibited, and the promotion of biodegradable and recyclable products was encouraged.

The “Game Zone”, a live game setup, was the main attraction for the young generation, where a potter’s wheel taught children and other visitors to make clay pots and color them. The “Swachhata ki Wheels” game was also a special part of the zone. A selfie point with a traditional setup was a popular spot for visitors.

Other attractions of the mela included camel rides, cart rides, Dholi, Madari, Behrupiya, Been Jogi, Nachar, Nagada, Charkhe, Manjire, Tumbe, Jamura Show, puppet show, fashion show, different stalls of sweets and lassi, Maal-Pua, handicrafts, designer fabrics and other domestic items by Self-Help Groups and Street Vendors. The stage was decorated with colorful lights and traditional flags. The streets were filled with a fusion of traditional folk, beats of Dhol and Teejan di Geet, and Giddha and Bhangra.

In the cultural evening, the famous singer Master Saleem enthralled the audience with various Punjabi numbers.

Tomorrow morning (August 11th), the Mela will begin with folk dances and other shows including Been Jogi, Kal Beliya and Ghumar etc besides Magic Show. A culture evening will also be organized by famous Punjabi singer Resham Singh Anmol.

*Chandigarh, August 9:* In a significant step towards ensuring a smooth transition from intermittent to full-pressure water supply in Manimajra, a State of Art smart meter testing lab has been set up at Water Works-III, Manimajra.

This facility will address the concerns of residents regarding their smart water meters. Consumers who have registered complaints about their smart water meters can have them tested free of charge at the lab currently.

CEO Smart City and Commissioner Municipal Corporation Ms. Anindita Mitra said that the Smart City and Municipal Corporation are committed to sustainable water management through better monitoring and conservation.

She further highlighted that the smart meter testing lab will operate daily, testing meters from different areas of Manimajra to ensure they are functioning accurately. This initiative will improve the water supply management system in the area, providing residents with a more reliable and efficient service.

*MCC opens 9th ‘Rupee Store’ at Maloya EWS Community Centre, empowering communities*

*Chandigarh, August 8:* Aiming to provide affordable items to those in need while promoting the concept of Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle (RRR), the Municipal Corporation of Chandigarh (MCC) has opened its ninth ‘One Rupee Store’ at the EWS Community Centre in Maloya. This new store was inaugurated under the ongoing “Safai Apnao Bimaari Bhagao” campaign, which promotes sustainability and inclusivity aligned with the Swachh Bharat Mission.

City Mayor Sh. Kuldeep Kumar, in the presence of MC Commissioner Ms. Anindita Mitra, IAS, and area Councillor Smt. Nirmala Devi, inaugurated the new store, attended by other councillors, senior MCC officials, and prominent members of the ward.

Speaking on the occasion, City Mayor Kuldeep Kumar said that the MCC’s permanent RRR Center in Sector 17 has received an overwhelming response from citizens over the past year, enabling the establishment of this new Rupee Store. The aim of the Rupee Store is to provide affordable access to various items, such as books, electronics, clothing, crockery, kitchenware, toys, and bed sheets, all priced at just Rs. 1 per item, while promoting the RRR concept.

He further shared that the Sector 17 RRR Center collected a total of 62,000 approximately donated items from June 2023 to July 2024, including clothes, books,  footwear, and other items like crockery, toys, electronics, bags, home décor, and furniture. After cleaning, repairing, and refurbishing these donated items, the MCC is committed to organizing more such one-rupee stores in different areas and wards of the city.

MC Commissioner Ms. Anindita Mitra, IAS, expressed gratitude to the citizens of the Tricity for their overwhelming response and support. She noted that this is the ninth successful one-rupee store, and the MCC is committed to establishing more such stores throughout the city to serve the community. The establishment of this store is a testament to the MCC’s efforts towards creating sustainable and inclusive practices that benefit citizens from all walks of life.

Since 2023, the MCC has embarked on a journey to promote sustainable behavior and practices among its citizens. As part of this initiative, eight one-rupee stores have already been successfully organized in Dhanas, Manimajra, Maloya, Sunder Nagar, Ramdarbar, a special store for Safaimitras, Sector 56, and Daddumajra. These stores have collectively sold approximately more than 30,000 items.

The Commissioner emphasized that this initiative under the “Safai Apnao Bimaari Bhagao” campaign aims to protect and preserve the environment, instilling a pro-planet behavioral change through individual action in daily life. The MCC is reaffirming its dedication to sustainability and working towards a future where emphasis is placed on resourceful utilization, mindful consumption, and waste reduction. By embracing the principles of RRR, the Corporation is on a mission to create a Garbage Free City that is more resilient, equitable, and sustainable for generations to come.

*Chandigarh, August 7:-* In line with the Nationwide celebration of the “Har Ghar Tiranga” campaign, the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh has decided to engage citizens through a unique Tiranga Pratiyogita, fostering patriotic spirit.

City Mayor Sh. Kuldeep Kumar today held a meeting with representatives of Market Welfare Associations and Resident Welfare Associations of city beautiful. During the meeting, a comprehensive briefing was shared about the unique Tiranga Pratiyogita under the “Har Ghar Tiranga” campaign, which will take place from August 10th to 12th, 2024. This initiative offers an exciting opportunity for citizens to showcase their creative talents on the theme of “My Nation, My Pride”.

The Mayor said that through Tiranga Pratiyogita, the Municipal Corporation urges all RWA and MWA to actively participate and set a shining example by adding a memorable celebration of India’s unity. He emphasized the importance of consciously contributing to waste management, plastic waste reduction, community awareness, and the promotion of local and eco-friendly products while participating in the competition.

He also requested every citizen to ensure respectful and dignified usage and representation of the National Flag during their activities, as non-adherence to this may lead to disqualification from the competition. The National Flag Code will be strictly adhered to.

Participation in the competition can be confirmed by registering through the link from August 7th to 9th, 2024, using a Google form. To participate, RWAs and MWAs can select following activity or come up with their own unique ideas to ensure active participation. The activities include:

Chandigarh, August 6:- Aiming to facilitate a seamless and efficient transition of intermittent water supply to full pressure water supply, the area of Manimajra has been strategically divided into four distinct zones for final settings and connections to the new water supply network. This carefully planned approach allows for uninterrupted service delivery and minimizes disruptions to the residents of Manimajra.

The phased rollout of final settings and connections to new water supply system will commence as under:

7th to 12th August in areas comprising Shanti Nagar, Madiwala Town, Peepliwala Town, Bank Colony and Police Colony.

13th to 18th August in areas comprising Old Darshani Bagh, Samadhi gate area, Gobindpura, Churi market, Main Market and Old Ropar road

19th to 23rd August in areas comprising Subhash Nagar, Indira Colony, Motor Market, and Shivalik Enclave.

24th to 28th August , in areas comprising MHC, Duplex house, Rajiv Vihar and Uppal Marble Society

During these dates, citizens of Manimajra may experience erratic supply and low water pressure. 

A robust grievance redressal set up has been set up for registration of grievances. Citizens can call at helpline number 9503275281 or register their complaint on I’m Chandigarh App or directly at dedicated counter, set up at Water Works-III, Manimajra from 9.00 am to 5.00 pm.

A dedicated cell has been constituted to monitor the stabilization, on a daily basis.

*Chandigarh, August 4:-* Aimed at switching from intermittent supply to 24×7 continuous full pressure water supply system, Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Sh. Amit Shah today inaugurated the 24×7 Water Supply project in Manimajra, Chandigarh in the presence of Sh. Gulab Chand Kataria, Governor of Punjab and Administrator, UT Chandigarh and Sh. Satnam Singh Sandhu, Member of Parliament, Rajya Sabha.

Sh. Ajay Kumar Bhalla, Union Home Secretary, Sh. Tapan Kumar Deka, Special Director, Intelligence Bureau, Sh. Rajeev Verma, Adviser to the Administrator, UT, Chandigarh, Ms. Anindita Mitra, Chief Executive Officer, Chandigarh Smart City Ltd., Mrs. Kirron Kher, Former Member Parliament, Chandigarh, Sh. Kuljeet Singh Sandhu, Senior Deputy Mayor, Chandigarh and other councilors, senior officers and dignitaries were also present during the inaugural function.

Addressing the citizens at the inauguration ceremony, the Home Minister praised Chandigarh for maintaining its original planned city form and acknowledged the persistent water supply challenges faced by the residents. He highlighted that the 24×7 water supply project, built at a cost of Rs. 75 crores, will greatly benefit the Manimajra area by ensuring continuous water availability with full pressure, even up to the fourth floor. He said that this project has marked a significant milestone in Chandigarh’s journey towards sustainable water management and efficient service delivery to its residents.

He further said that the project’s primary objectives are to switch from intermittent to continuous pressurized water supply, ensuring better water quality, reliability, and effective supply-demand management. This initiative aligns with the service level benchmarks set by the Ministry of Urban Development, Government of India, including 100% water supply coverage, assured per capita supply of 155 LPCD, 100% metering, and maintaining Non-Revenue Water (NRW) levels between 15-20%.

In his address, the Governor of Punjab and Administrator, UT, Chandigarh Sh. Gulab Chand Kataria said that residents of Manimajra will highly benefit from this project as the continuous supply system would provide better water quality and households will get better pressure of water sufficient to fill tanks up to forth storey, thus lowering the pumping costs.

He appreciated the Chandigarh Smart City Ltd. for taking various steps to improve the basic upkeep besides ensuring the availability of civic amenities in each sector. He said that public participation is must in understanding the issues, recognizing the areas requiring improvement and evolving strategies for future planning.

Earlier, the UT Adviser Sh. Rajeev Verma welcomed the Home Minister and other distinguished Guests in the programme. Lauding the project’s features, the UT Adviser said that the 24×7 Water Supply pilot project, with a CAPEX value of INR 74.56 Crore and an OPEX value of INR 91.29 Crore for 15 years (to be borne by the Municipal Corporation of Chandigarh), aims to transform the existing intermittent water supply into a continuous and pressurized system. This strategic move will enhance water supply efficiency, reduce wastage, and ensure better water resource management.

Ms. Anindita Mitra, CEO, Chandigarh Smart City Ltd. presented vote of thanks to the Union Home Minister and other distinguished guests in the programme. She also expressed gratitude and appreciation to all those who have contributed to complete the 24×7 water supply project at Manimajra.

 She said that the project executed by Chandigarh Smart City under the Smart City Mission, the project aims to conserve potable water, minimize wastage, and provide uninterrupted, pressurized water supply to the residents of Manimajra. Key features of the project include:

– Installation of 11,727 smart water meters with advanced metering infrastructure, enabling real-time monitoring and analysis of water consumption and leakages.

– Completion of the 22 km water supply network, with joint testing and diversion/connection of tube wells to underground reservoirs (UGRs).

– Construction, testing, and installation of equipment/machinery for the Underground Reservoir (UGR) and the Water Works III building, with furnishing works.

– Implementation of SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) and instrumentation across the water supply infrastructure.
