Panjab University Alumni Association organized an online ‘Grand Mushaira’ which

was moderated by Mr Shams Tabrezi who is an Urdu poet since the last 36 years. He has written 13 books (poetry and prose). He has been awarded by many National level awards.

The invited speakers of the event were Mr. Pardeep Panwar, Mr. Kashish Moradabadi, Ms. Sangeeta Sharma Kundra, Dr. Anjum Barabankvi and Dr. Zia Tonki.

Mr. Pardeep Panwar is an Ojaswi Kavi from Tonk, Rajasthan and has been writing poetry from the last 11 years. Mr. Kashish Moradabadi is poet and a journalist, based in Moradabad. Ms. Sangeeta Sharma Kundra is from Chandigarh. She is a poet and from the last 10 years has been doing a comparative study of Hindi and Urdu. Dr. Anjum Barabankvi is an Urdu poet since the past 40 years and has written 4 books on poetry. He is presently Prof. of Urdu at Madhya Pradesh Bhoj University. Dr. Zia Tonki is also a poet since the last 25 years, has published a collection of poetry. He is also a doctor by profession.

Prof. Deepti Gupta, Dean Alumni Association welcomed everyone. Mr Tabrezi then introduced all the poets to the participants. All the poets recited beautiful poems and Nazms and kept the audience enthralled. The poems were full of enthusiasm and love for life. The participants gave wonderful comments and enjoyed the event. 

The virtual mode has its limitations but the way the poets were showering ‘wah wahs’, the limitations couldn’t be felt. Among the participants were alumni members, faculty of colleges in Chandigarh, students and other guests. Ms. Sonia Chandel from PUAA gave a vote of thanks.

Book on the History of Geography Deptt Released by PU VC

Prof. Raj Kumar , Vice Chancellor of Panjab University today released a book on the history of the Department of Geography, Panjab University, Chandigarh entitled “Romancing  Department of Geography, 1960-2020” which has been authored by Dr. Gopal Krishan, Professor Emeritus, and alumnus of the first batch of Department of Geography.

Releasing the document, the Vice-Chancellor appreciated the initiative taken by the Department of Geography in producing the document. He added that it had been his vision to strengthen the bond of the University with its alumni and this document was proof of this vision taking the shape of reality. The book was part of a heritage corner produced by the Department in its newly renovated library. He wished the Department the very best in time to come.

MCC signed MoU with IOC as dealer for opening petrol pump at industrial area Ph-2

Chandigarh, October 28:- The Municipal Corporation Chandigarh has signed MoU with the Indian Oil Corporation as dealer for opening retail outlet at Industrial area Phase-2, Chandigarh.

The Commissioner informed that the Chandigarh Administration has allotted Industrial area Phase-2, Chandigarh for opening and running the Petrol Pump to the MCC and after inviting expression of interest from Govt. Oil companies, Indian Oil Corporation was selected and entered into MoU with the Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh. The work of completion at site is going on war footing level and the petrol pump will be commissioned shortly, he added.

IGNOU extends Admission up to 31st October, 2020

The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has extended the last date of submission of online Fresh admission of all Masters, Bachelor & Diplomas programmes up to 31st October, 2020 for the July-2020 session. This extension of last date shall not apply to Certificate and Semester-based programmes, i.e., MP, MPB, PGDMM, PGDFM, PGDHRM, PGDOM, PGDFMP, DBPOFA, PGDIS, MCA, BCA, and all Certificate and Awareness programmes of 6 months duration or less. Details of the IGNOU academic programmes for the July, 2020 session can be accessed from the link https://ignouadmission.samarth.edu.in/. The prospective learners can apply for Masters/Bachelor/Diploma programmes of the University on the official website, informed The Regional Director of IGNOU Regional centre Chandigarh Dr. A.K.Dimri. Last date of submission of ‘online’ admission form for the July session was earlier fixed for October 25.

For all those candidates, who have been planning to get admission in any of the IGNOU courses can apply for the same online. Firstly the candidate has to register themselves (if not registered) on the official website i.e https://ignouadmission.samarth.edu.in/. Whereas those who have already registered can simply login with the id- password and fill up the application form for the admission in the July session at Indira Gandhi National Open University for 2020. Also, before filling up the IGNOU admission form, candidates must go through the general instructions, eligibility criteria, fee details, duration, etc. on the official website. Applicants can also download the complete details of the programmes from the IGNOU website.

Learners can also take provisional admission in Bachelor and Master Degree Programmes pending due to declaration of their final year result. However such learners will have to submit their completed certificate/degree/marksheet by 31st December 2020. In case it is not submitted their admission will be cancelled and fee will be refunded as per University norms.

PUAA and Swayam Cell organized a webinar “National Education Policy 2020: Joining the Dots”

Panjab University Alumni Association in collaboration with Swayam Cell, Panjab University, organized a webinar “National Education Policy 2020: Joining the Dots” on 23 October.

Dr. Vishal Sharma, Coordinator Swayam Cell, Panjab University, welcomed the speakers and moderated the event. The honorable speakers for the event were Ms Vinita Arora, Dr. Rajiv Khosla and Mr. Sanjiv Gupta.

Ms. Vinita Arora,   Senior Principal, Bhavan Vidhyala since 2016 explained the change from 10+2 to 5+3+3+4 system of the NEP 2020 in school education and its benefits. She spoke about vocational education and 36 degree assessment of students where the student will be assessed by his peers, self and teachers now. During interaction with the participants Ms. Arora agreed that the teachers should be trained before the implementation of NEP and a change in their mindset is also required so that they give equal importance to academics as well as sports or other areas like music and dance.

Dr. Rajiv Khosla,  Associate Professor in DAV Institute of Management, Chandigarh discussed various other countries like England, Canada, Singapore etc. where our students looked up to for higher education. He discussed interesting facts about their education policies and said they have very strategically defined their educational objectives. He said that NEP 2020 is a very timely policy, the best brains have been used and lakhs of suggestions have been considered before making it. What is left is implementation of this policy. Dr Khosla also discussed the positive points and challenges of the policy.

Mr. Sanjiv Gupta, Chief GM –Manufacturing, SML ISUZU LTD, former Business Head, Swaraj Automotive Ltd. and Plant Head at M & M (Swaraj Division) prior to joining SML Isuzu Ltd. discussed the industry academia aspect of the policy. He said the good part of the policy is that students will gain numeric skills and critical thinking from a very young age now which will help them in their careers. He also said that the multiple entry and exit option available to students, innovation centres and entrepreneur cells available to students will be for their benefit. He also suggested that there should be a mix of industry experts and academicians in training and teaching. Mr Gupta concluded by saying that if there is a policy that helps in the proper collaboration of the industry and academics and proper teacher training then NEP 2020 will be unstoppable.

Next was an interesting round of interaction between the participants and the speakers where many questions were answered by all the speakers. Prof. Shashi Chowdhry said that it was a very informative session and she was glad that she could attend it. Ms. Sonia Chandel from PUAA proposed a vote of thanks.
