*Chandigarh, September 6:-* City Mayor Sh. Kuldeep Kumar said here today that a special squad of officers will be constituted to deal with day to day affairs related to Swachh Survekshan-2024 parameters on ground level.

While presiding over a review meeting, the Mayor asked the concerned officers to constitute a team of officers in which all the wings of MCC will look after daily affairs of the Survekshan on ground level. He said that the team will check all the violations related falling under the jurisdiction of MCC and defaulters will be challaned on the spot as per the norms. He further said that the team will also see problems and issues related to their respective wings and resolve the same at their own level.

The Mayor directed to organize monthly awareness camps in the villages, colonies and slums including all peripheral areas of city to create awareness among citizens regarding swachh survekshan and its parameters. He said that special cleanliness drives be carried out on regular basis to clean toilets besides providing drinking water facility in the colonies and villages.

The Mayor asked the concerned engineers to put up status of legacy waste mining project at Dadumajra dumping site and regular camps be organized at the Dadumajra village and colony to resolve their day to day problems and other issues.

He asked the officers for monitoring the maintenance of toilet blocks outsourced to contractors on weekly basis through mobile app instead of monthly monitoring. He said that contractors not performing up to the mark in maintaining the toilet blocks be pulled up and their contracts be cancelled. He said directed that awareness material such as boards, hoardings of Swachhata campaigns be displayed in the toilet blocks falling under the jurisdiction of MCC.

The Mayor said that citizens be involved in Swachh Survekshan 2024 through creating mass awareness campaigns on regular basis. He said that LED display screens be arranged in heavy populated areas including sector 15, 17, 19, 22 and 34 to display various components of SS-2024 and different parameters. He said that projection of MC projects and best practices be displayed among masses.

He said that intensive awareness campaign be started to use Swachhata App among citizens and SLA be monitored properly. He said that Resident Welfare Associations and Market Welfare Associations be involved in all campaigns as they are major role players and stakeholders for implementing the schemes related to Swachhata.

The Mayor said that segregation of waste at source level be monitored properly specifically in peripheral areas of the city. He said that city level Self Help Groups be engaged to create door to door awareness for various components i.e. ban on single use plastic items, segregation of waste at source level, home composting, recycling of waste materials etc.

He said that that social support groups be created for cleanliness in slums and proper survey be conducted at these areas besides creating whatsup group for day to day problems and issues faced by residents of slum areas.

For street vendor zones, the Mayor said that they should be zero litter and well organized including providing the facilities of toilet blocks and drinking water. He asked the concerned officers to introduce single pattern pre fabricated mobile stalls for the vendors so that they look uniform in the vending zones.

On Plastic Mukt Shahar, the Mayor said that violators be challaned during first time and FIR be lodged against the permanent defaulters. He directed the concerned sanitary inspectors to nab the supplies of single use plastic bags to the vendors in apni mandis, market places and other vending sites.

Rinku Kalia, eminent vocalist and winner of Zee TV’s musical realty show “Sa Re Ga Ma”, along with Sarangi maestro Vinod Pawar and  noted ghazal singer  Kanwar Jagmohan will be awarded the “Kala Pratibha Awards-2024” of  the Chandigarh Sangeet Natak Akademi(CSNA).

Announcing this here today, Sudesh Sharma and Vikrant Seth, Chairman and Vice-Chairman, respectively, of the CSNA, said while Kalia would be awarded in the category of folk vocal/folk instruments while Pawar in the classical vocal /classical instruments. Jagmohan  will be awarded in the light classical category.

Besides, nine other artistes would be awarded  in the categories of dance, music and drama. A lifetime achievement  award and an art promoter award would also given by the CSNA, which is awarding the tricity artistes for the first time.

Sharma and Seth informed that an Award Selection Committee, comprising eminent artistes was constituted to select the winners from entries received by July 31, 2024. The awardees will get award at a grand function to be organized at Chandigarh soon, they added.

*Chandigarh, September 4:-* The Municipal Corporation Chandigarh will conduct quarterly sports meets among its employees and councilors from October, 2024 onwards.

While announcing this here today during the prize distribution ceremony held here today at MC office, city Mayor Sh. Kuleep Kumar said that sports games will not only relieve the employees from stress but is also good for their health. He said that an agenda regarding this will be brought to the ensuing General House Meeting for final decision that after every three months there will be sports tournaments among the councilors and employees of MC Chandigarh.

He said that the sports meet was organized by the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh at sports stadium, Sector 7 to commemorate birthday of India’s Hockey Legend Major Dhyan Chand on 30th August. He remembered India’s hockey legend Major Dhyan Chand for his dedication, determination and sporting spirit for the team and Nation.

He said that separate teams MCC for different games will be constituted and employees will be provided proper training by the coaches during the tournaments which will not only brought a good name for the Corporation but also for the City Beautiful.

The Mayor and Joint Commissioner Mrs. Isha Kamboj awarded mementos and certificates to the winners of different games including 100 meter race, 400 meter race, volleyball, badminton, tug of war (pulling the rope), chess and carom for men and women categories.

Chandigarh, September 3:- Sh. Kuldeep Kumar, Mayor of Chandigarh today distributed Praise awards 2023-24 to the best performer banks under PM SVANIDHI scheme at a state level award ceremony organized at Rani Laxmi Bai Mahila Bhawan, Sector 38, here in the presence of Sh. Yogesh Dhingra, area councilor, Mrs. Isha Kamboj, Joint Commissioner, Sh. Hari Singh Gumra, Chief LDM, Chandigarh, Sh. Vivek Trivedi, Social Development Officer, DAY-NULM, Chandigarh and other concerned officials of MC and banks.

In the award ceremony, Municipal Corporation Chandigarh was conferred Best in Svandhi Se Samriddhi category, and Punjab National Bank and Bank of Baroda was given Best Performing Banks under PM SVANidhi, whereas 10 Bank Branches comprised of Bank of Baroda, Grain Market, Bank of Maharashtra, Sector-47- C, Central Bank of India, Sector 37- C, Punjab National Bank, Sector-22, Punjab National Bank, Ind. Area Ph-I, State Bank of India,Sector -22- D, State Bank of India,Main Branch,UCO Bank, Manimajra, Union Bank of India (UBI), Main Branch and Union Bank of India (UBI), Dhanaswere given best performing branches in the Chandigarh as per notification of Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Government of India dated 29, July 2024.

While addressing the gathering, the Mayor said that Chandigarh has mobilized 10, 358 applications, and 8563 applications were sanctioned with a loan amount of Rs. 13.8 cr. whereas 7978 applications were disbursed with a loan amount of Rs. 12.55 cr giving benefits to approx. 4900 registered street vendors in Chandigarh. 96.89% of PM SVANidhi beneficiaries were profiled with the identification of 11472 new members for eight social security schemes for the members of street vendors.

On this occasion, the Mayor also distributed Parichay Board issued by the Government of India along with a letter from Prime Minister to PM SVANidhi beneficiaries. In addition, officials engaged in the implementation of PM SVANdhi were also appreciated by the Mayor Chandigarh.

In the programme, bank officials, street vendors, PM SVANidhi beneficiaries and members of the Town Vending Committee and members of Area Level Federation and City Level Federation, NGOs participated.

Also, sessions were organized on various subjects like Financial Literacy, Financial Inclusion, PoshanAbhiyan, Social Security schemes and a camp was installed at the venue in the programme.

The event, held at Lecture Hall I, which started at 11:30 AM and was attended by students, faculty members, and Research Scholars. The purpose of this event was to raise awareness about the importance of Software Freedom and its impact on the academic and professional lives of library science students. MLIS students Chanchal and Priya gave informative talks, with Chanchal explaining what Software Freedom is and why it matters, and Priya discussing how open-source tools like Koha and DSpace benefit library management. The Chairperson of the department, Prof. Rupak Chakravarty shared insights on how adopting Software supports transparency, collaboration, and learning in the field of library science. The event successfully raised awareness and encouraged students to engage with open-source projects in their academic and professional lives. This was followed by an interactive Q & A session wherein Students, Research Scholars and Faculty members participated.

Therefore, all Students Organizations are advised not to deface buildings, walls, trees, floors, poles etc. or littering the Campus, as the same is punishable under the “Defacement Act” as well.

Strict action will be taken against the Students/Organizations who indulge in littering and whose pamphlets/stickers are found on University walls/trees/poles/buildings etc. These are allowed only on the designated notice boards provided for the election.

*Chandigarh, August 27:-* Sh. Kuldeep Kumar, Mayor, Chandigarh today inaugurated renovated Community Centre in Kishangarh, here in the presence of Smt. Suman Sharma, area councilor, other councilors, officers of MC Chandigarh and other prominent persons of the area.

While addressing the gathering, the Mayor said that this Community Centre has undergone extensive renovations to enhance its functionality and aesthetic appeal at a total expenditure of Rs. 59 lacs. He said that this Community Centre was handed over by the Chandigarh Administration to the Municipal Corporation during the year 2019 merger of 13 villages under the MC’s jurisdiction. At that time, the Community Centre was in poor condition and lacked basic facilities.

He said that the comprehensive renovation has addressed these issues, including making the main hall soundproof with a new false ceiling, and upgrading the windows and doors with toughened glass and U PVC materials for soundproofing. A new open kitchen has been constructed, allowing it to be used without disturbing ongoing events. All doors have been aesthetically enhanced with teak wood, and the entire building has been made handicapped-friendly, ensuring accessibility for all, added the Mayor.

The Mayor said that the additional upgrades include covering the bathroom walls with ceramic tiles, adding a 3-foot vertical granite cladding to the corridor walls and repainting the entire building. Various repair works have also been completed to done the facility to optimal condition.

*MC Commissioner inaugurates toilet block in market at sector 46*

*Chandigarh, August 22:-*  MC Commissioner Ms. Anindita Mitra, IAS on Thursday inaugurated a toilet block in the Market of Sector 46 B here today in the presence of Sh. Gurpreet Singh Gabbi, area councilor, office bearers and members of the area Market welfare Association and Market committee of sector 46.

Re constructed at a cost of ₹10.61 lakh in the market, the toilet block has facilities for children and transgender also besides provision of sanitary pads and sanitary incinerator in the ladies toilet blocks for scientific disposal of sanitary pads.

Speaking on the occasion, the Commissioner said all toilet blocks in markets and parks were Geotagged and could be located through Google Maps. She said that QR codes have been provided at each block and can be scanned to report any problem, such as sewerage blockage, water leakage and missing taps.

The Commissioner said under the Swachh Bharat Mission and following the parameters of Water Plus, all the old toilet blocks are being revamped/re-constructed by adding more facilities and modern plumbing accessories.
