On the second and third day of the 14 day online workshop on Yoga for Self Management organized by Centre for Swami Vivekananda Studies, Panjab University Chandigarh. Dr.Laxminarayan Joshi, Head and Dean Students Welfare, Uttarakhand Sanskrit University, Haridwar gave a live presentation on the yoga for healthy spine.
Prof.Renu Thakur welcomed the guests. Mr Mohit introduced the speaker to the participants. The session started with the chanting of Om and Gayatri Mantra for over all good health and positivity of one and all. Dr.Laxminarayan is a renowned yoga therapist. He stressed that health of our spine is a key to the health of our whole body , Thus one needs to take care of spine by doing regular yogic activity. The spinal cord connects brain to the rest of the body hence it is most important. He demonstrated that how different asanas can help us to have healthy spine. While doing asanas we need to be careful and front bending should totally be avoided by the people who have cervical or lumber spondylitis. The problems due to wrong postures can be corrected by performing yogic asanas. He highlighted the benefits of Suryanamaskar for keeping our spine healthy. He referred to important asanas such as Vakra, Bhadra, Katichakra, Bhujang,Shalbha, Setu etc for keeping our spine healthy. Live demonstrations of these asanas helped participants to practice the same and correct their postures.
The participants interacted with the expert .Series of questions related to healthy spine were answered by the eminent speaker. The live demonstration was given by Ms Akansha from the same University.
The formal vote of thanks was proposed by Prashant Verma.The sessions were attended by large number of participants belonging to different age groups from different parts of the country.

The Department of Art History and Visual Arts Panjab University, Chandigarh unveiled the *Catalogue of Major Art Objects* in the Museum of Fine Arts today by Professor Tirthankar Bhattacharya Chairperson of Art History and Visual Arts department and Director Museum of Fine Arts.
The event was coordinated by Professor Rajeev Patnaik, the convener of the Panjab University Museum Aggredation Committee and Chairperson, Geology Department.
Professor Tirthankar Bhattacharya has compiled and edited the catalogue of the major art objects. The publication would be of immense help to the researchers . The catalogue would be available online and also at the departmental library archives and the Museum of Fine Arts .
Professor Tirthankar stressed the need to publish such catalogues as a part of the outreach program for the visibility of the University. He urged the other chairpersons to take up the challenge and also publish such catalogues of the museums of the University.
He thanked the Vice Chancellor Professor Raj Kumar for his motivation and support. The event was well received by the faculty and staff of the University.

Chandigarh, December 14:- Smt. Raj Bala Malik, Mayor, Chandigarh laid foundation stone of strengthening of existing sewerage system at village Burial here today in presence of Sh. Kanwarjeet Singh Rana, area councilor, Sh. Shailender Singh, Chief Engineer, prominent persons of area namely Sh. Gulab Rana, Sh. Baljinder Singh, Sh. Gurmail, Sh. Kaka ji, Sh. Gurcharan, Sh. Jagjit Singh, Sh. Ajay Rana, Sh. Balkrishan, Sh. Rampal and Sh. Surinder Rana.
During the occasion, the Mayor said that the sewer lines in village Burail were laid about 30-40 years back and with the passage of time a lot of development took place in the village and the population increased a manifold resulting the consumption of water increased means also increased in sewerage.
She said that these lines were old and unable to carry the sewerage properly. The residents were facing a lot of inconvenience due to blockage of sewer lines and over flow of sewage from main holes frequently. She said that keeping in view the situation, estimate for strengthening of existing sewerage system was approved and allotted amounting to Rs. 56.59 lacs.
She said that the new sewerage pipe lines about 1800 mtr of different sizes will be laid in this work including 112 mtr of 200 mm dia; 405 mtr of 250 mm dia; 210 mtr of 300 mm dia; 980 mtr of 400 mm dia and 120 mtr of 450 mm dia. She said that the work will be completed within stipulated time frame.

आज रविवार को चंडीगढ़ एवं इसके आसपास के इलाको में इस मौसम की पहली धुंध पड़ी। धुंध इतनी घनी थी कि विजिबिलिटी 50 मीटर से भी कम थी। धुंध का असर सड़क यातायात पर भी देखने को मिला। आलम यह था कि सड़क पर चलने वाले ज्यादातर वाहनों की फाग लाइट आन थी और स्पीड भी सामान्य दिनों के मुकाबले कम थी। रविवार होने की वजह से सड़क पर यातायात कम था, इसलिए वाहन चालकों को जाम की स्थिति का सामना नहीं करना पड़ा।
वहीं मौसम विभाग का कहना है कि अगले 48 घंटे घनी धुंध पड़ेगी, इसके साथ ही ठंड का भी प्रकोप बढ़ेगा। मौसम विभाग के निदेशक के सुरेंद्र पाल ने बताया कि रविवार इस साल का सबसे ठंडा दिन रहा। दिन के समय में शहर का तापमान 13 डिग्री सेल्सियस दर्ज किया गया, हालांकि यह किसी तरह का रिकार्ड नहीं है, लेकिन फिर ठंड काफी बढ़ गई है। उन्होंने बताया कि इस हफ्ते बारिश की संभावना नहीं है, लेकिन पहाड़ों में बर्फबारी की वजह आने वाले दिनों में ठंड और बढ़ेगी। इसलिए लोग अपना ध्यान रखें। चंडीगढ़ इंटरनेशनल एयरपोर्ट के प्रवक्ता ने बताया कि चंडीगढ़ इंटरनेशनल एयरपोर्ट पर कैट-2 इंस्टाल है। इसलिए फ्लाइट संचालन के लिए 350 मीटर की विजिबिलिटी चाहिए होती है, लेकिन रविवार को एयरफोर्स की टीम सुबह आठ बजे से डेढ़ बजे तक रनवे की मेंटेनेंस करती है। इसलिए फ्लाइट संचालन बंद रहता है। हालांकि सुबह-सुबह चंडीगढ़ एयरपोर्ट से उड़ान भरने वाली फ्लाइट्स का समय पर संचालन हुआ और यात्रियों को कोई परेशानी नहीं हुई।

The 14 day online workshop on ‘Yoga for Self Management’ started in Panjab University, Chandigarh today which is organised by the Interdisciplinary Centre for Swami Vivekananda Studies.This workshop is an effort to enlighten people on the benefits of Yoga in leading a happy and healthy life.
Dr Monika Aggarwal, Associate Professor from University Institute of Applied and Management Science (UIAMS) welcomed the guests and conducted the proceedings. Prof. Renu Thakur, Coordinator ICSVS introduced the speaker. The keynote speaker of the day was Prof. G. D. Sharma, former Chairman of the Department of Yoga Studies, Himachal Pradesh University, Shimla. He is an eminent scholar of Yoga
studies. He has received various awards and honours for his commendable work in this field.
On the first day of the 14 day Workshop , Prof Sharma spoke on the benefits of yoga in the modern times. He started the session with the chanting of Om and informed that it fills us with positive energy. He stressed that yoga manages our life and by regulating our lifestyle we can minimise our sufferings and lead happy life. Strict discipline is the key to happiness. We should interact with ourself and try to listen to our soul and contemplate on the virtues. He highlighted the importance of regulated breath (pranayama) in our life. ‘Prana’ is the key to both mental and physical health. Mastering ‘Prana’ through yogic techniques can help us control our wandering mind. He introduced the participants to Atha Yoga Anushasnam cited in the Yogasutra of Patanjali. In the modern times we are careless about our lifestyle and have become totally ignorant that vikalpa stops growth of humans ,so we are to control our mind to grow.The pandemics cannot harm us if we are disciplined and adhere to the advisory issued by the health experts.The balanced food does wonders, so we should eat right food at right time and in right quantity. Yoga is an essence of a happy and successful life. WHO and ICMR are also propagating yoga for good health. Let us lead a disciplined life and keep ourselves free from all kinds of ailments.

7days Faculty Development Program (FDP) organized by Human Resource Development Centre of Panjab University, Chandigarh, concluded with the valedictory address by Dr. Jaideep Arya, Chairman, Haryana Yoga Council, Govt. of Haryana.
Dr. Jaideep Arya shared that there are two types of people like who have faith in God and those who do not have. He added that human beings should learn from their mistakes. He also focused the light on the role of Vedas and Yoga towards spiritual life. He further stressed upon the complete control on the wants and needs by following right path of life. He said that one should not give up and must fight for right issues.
Dr. Roshan Lal Coordinator of the program welcomed and introduced the Guest Dr. Jaideep Arya. Thereafter, Dr. Roshan Lal presented the report of the program and informed that for the first time, experts from abroad joined the program which includes countries like, USA, UK, Bangladesh, Pakistan etc. Around 40 people joined the program.

Chandigarh, December 11:- A meeting of Sanitation committee, Municipal Corporation Chandigarh was held here today in the conference hall under the chairmanship of Sh. Rajesh Kumar and attended by other member councilors of MCC namely Sh. Gurpreet Singh Dhillon, Smt. Heera Negi, Smt. Asha Jaswal, Smt. Ravinder Kaur Gujral, Dr. Amrit Pal Warring, MOH and all CSIs of MCC.
During the meeting various issues related proper sanitation in the city were discussed. The committee discussed and recommended that the additional door to door waste collecting vehicles be deployed in the residential areas of city so that segregated waste be collected properly and the enrolment of the door to door waste collectors be done for engaging them into service with proper documentation as per the notified norms.
The committee also decided to extend the tenure of contract period of tractor trollys and chain dozer for six months. In addition to that the committee recommended to hire vehicles for Chief Sanitary Inspectors on rent basis for area inspection and routine job work in their respective areas.

Chandigarh, December 11:-A meeting of Environment & City Beautification committee, Municipal Corporation Chandigarh was held here today in the conference hall under the chairmanship of Sh. Hardeep Singh and attended by other member councilors of MCC namely Sh. Ravi Kant Sharma, Sh. Rajesh Kumar, Dr. Jyotsna Wig, Sh. Rajesh Gupta, Mrs. Asha Jaswal and concerned officers of MCC.
During the meeting various issues related to proper maintenance of parks and green belts were discussed and the committee recommended an agenda item to enhance the maintenance charges for well maintained parks/gardens by the Resident Welfare Associations and the same referred to General House for final decision.
The committee asked the concerned engineers to write a letter to the Electricity Department, UT, Chandigarh to remove the horticulture waste immediate after pruning of trees nearby the electricity wires throughout city.
The committee accorded approval to purchase 10 trollys for the use in horticulture wing for lifting of waste on daily basis. The members asked the concerned officers to prepare action taken report for two years and table it in the next meeting of the committee.

Society for Promotion of Science & Technology in India (SPSTI) in association with the Chandigarh Chapter of NASI (National Academy of Sciences India), Technology Enabling Centre (TEC), University Institute of Engineering & Technology and Panjab University Alumni Association Chandigarh organised an online memorial meeting in honour of the Father of Indian IT Industry, Padma Bhushan Dr. F.C. Kohli, Founder and first C.E.O. of Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), who left for his heavenly abode on November 26, 2020.
The web assembly took place today at 11:00 AM to pay tribute to this preeminent alumnus of the University of Punjab, Lahore (a precursor of Panjab University, Chandigarh).
The meeting was steered by Prof. Keya Dharmvir, General Secretary of SPSTI.
Prof. Arun K. Grover, former Vice Chancellor of Panjab University spoke on the background of the memorial meeting, highlighting Dr. Kohli’s association with Tata Consultancy Service and TIFR (Tata Instt. Of Fundamental Res., Mumbai) and his work with Prof. Yash Pal, Prof. Narasimhan, Prof. M. K. G. Menon, Dr. Mathai Joseph and Dr. Kehav Nori. Prof. Rajesh Kochhar, an eminent historian of Science, presented a brief profile of Dr. Kohli including his personal and professional life. There were messages from Prof. Raj Kumar, VC, PU and Prof. Kesav V. Nori, IIIT Hyderabad, who was earlier a senior functionary at TCS, highlighting his role as a great mentor and visionary.
Shri Som Mittal, former Chairman NASSCOM, paid his tribute stating him being an engineer at heart and being a great student as well as a great teacher throughout his life. Dr. Ananth Krishnan who is Chief Technology Officer at TCS read the official statement on the great loss and said greatest tribute to him will be if we can live up to his vision for the growth of nation. Shri Rajiv Vaishnav shared how his every meeting with Dr. Kohli was focussed on what better NASSCOM can do to, showing his passion for nation. There was also a message from Prof. Shri S. K. Munjal from Hero Enterprises indicating both computer and software industry would not have been possible without Mr Kohli’s interventions. Dr. Anil Sahasrabudhe, Chairman, AICTE, shared his personal experiences and the supportive role played by Dr. Kohli. Prof. Manoj Arora, former Director, PEC shared his vision that science curriculum including mathematics should be revised every year. Prof. Sarit K. Das, Director IIT, Ropar also shared how passionate Dr. Kohli was with the development of nation and stated his words “India has no damn business to remain poor”. Prof. Dheeraj Sanghi, Director, PEC, Dr. Manu Sharma, UIET, Prof. Renu Wig, former Director, UIET, Prof. R. K. Kohli, Secretary, Chandigarh chapter of NASI, Prof. Deepti Gupta, Dean Alumni Relations, Panjab University, Mr. Akhil from MP and Prof. G. S. Kainth, ex Faculty, IIT Kanpur, also paid their tribute by sharing their experiences. The meeting was also attended by Prof. R. P. Bambah, former VC, Panjab University and a contemporary of Dr. F. C. Kohli in Lahore, with more than 200 participants on zoom and about 222 on facebook page of SPSTI.
The meeting ended with vote of thanks by Shri Dharam Vir, IAS (Retd.) & President SPSTI, to all the present for the memorial meeting remembering Dr. Kohli as a legend who not only had passion for developing technology in country but also had similar love for academics
