Around 85900 students took Online Exam by PU on Day 3

Dr. Jagat Bhushan, Controller of Examination informed that around 85900 students of Undergraduate/Post Graduate/Other Professional Courses including USOL/Private have appeared today on Day 3 of online examination conducted by Panjab University. He informed that total exams in Slot 1 and Slot 2 were 80 and 18 respectively. He further informed that all the exams conducted today, went off smoothly.

Chandigarh shortlisted for stage II on Nation-wide Cycles4change challenge

Chandigarh, February 17:- Chandigarh has become one of the 25 cities in India shortlisted for the stage II of nation-wide Cycles4Change  Challenge, organised under the Smart Cities Mission of the Centre. About 107 cities participated in the challenge which aimed at making cities cycling friendly post-covid. Among the 107 cities 41 cities gave their proposal and strategy presentation for evaluation by the Minsitry of Housing and Urban Affairs.

Chandigarh Smart City Limited (CSCL) initiated strategic action plans based on three broad principals of social media engagement, community involvement and implementation of pilot intervention at Sukhna Lake and Sector 36 V4 road to promote cycling. Several activities have been taken up  in the city in the last 6 months such as free cycle repair workshop, online perception survey, pilot launch of Public Bicycle Sharing System, Cycle Rallies, Cycle themed photo and video competition, lighting of cycle tracks among other initiatives.

Chandigarh Smart City Limited (CSCL) has as well initiated the Draft Bicyling Plan for the city to be taken up by Healthy Street Cell and to be finalized by the Apex Committee headed by the Municipal Commissioner, Chandigarh. Now, the city is further preparing for second round to give a presentation to the jury to get selected among 11 cities which will receive a scale up support of Rs 1 crore,”.

Notably, the CSCL has already constructed dedicated 200km-long cycle track in entire city and further will be constructing more such tracks to connect the periphery and the city industrial areas to boost last mile connectivity and NMT. Chandigarh is also gearing up for launch of its 1st phase of Public Bicyle Sharing System with 1250 bicycles at 155 docking stations spread across the city.

Day 2 of PU Online Exams

Dr. Jagat Bhushan, Controller of Examination informed that around 650 students of
Undergraduate/Post Graduate/Other Professional Courses including USOL/Private have
appeared today on Day 2 of online examination conducted by Panjab University. He
informed that total of 7 exams were conducted from 9.30 am to 12.30 pm in Slot and 6
exams  from 1.30pm-4.30 pm Slot. He further informed that all the exams conducted
today went off smoothly.

For Detailed News-

Around 84000 students of Undergraduate/Post Graduate/Other Professional Courses including USOL/Private have appeared today in the online examination conducted by Panjab University which commenced today. Exams for 78 papers were conducted on Day 1 of the Exams. The examinations are being conducted in 2 slabs of 9.30am-12.30 pm and 1.30pm-4.30 pm.

All the Colleges/Departments downloaded the question papers as per the scheduled time from PU Website and official email IDs provided to them. The question papers were further distributed to students through various electronic modes.

Prof. Raj Kumar, Vice Chancellor remained connected with the Controller to take stock of the situation.

Dr. Jagat Bhushan, Controller of Examination expressed his gratitude to all the Chairpersons/College Principals/Coordinators/ Supporting Staff for the successful commencement of the online exams. He further informed that many queries received were resolved by COE and his technical team. He further informed that around 2,86,812 students will be taking various exams being conducted by PU with a break up as given below:-

UIPS Conducted Outreach activity Under Rashtriya Aavishkar Abhiyan

University Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences (UIPS), Panjab University, Chandigarh contributed in the Rashtriya Aavishkar Abhiyan (RAA) jointly in association with Government Model School, Sector 8-B, Chandigarh on 15th February, 2021.

            Rashtriya Avishkar Abhiyan is a novel concept developed and launched on 9th July, 2015 by Late Dr A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, Former President of India and it is still running successfully in the country by Ministry of  Education. The aim is to inculcate a spirit of inquisitiveness, creativity, excitement and love for Science and Mathematics in school children through inside and outside classroom activities, observation and experimentation. It is a joint framework across School Education and Higher Education to motivate children in learning Science, Mathematics and Technology.

            Keeping in view the present pandemic times, the RAA was organised in the Government Model School, Sector 8-B, Chandigarh itself where Dr Anurag Kuhad, Dr Neelima Dhingra, Dr Sangeeta Pilkhwal Sah and Dr Ranjana Bhandari Assistant Professors from UIPS interacted with science and humanity students of Class 11th-12th. The highlights of the interaction were virtual tour to the Panjab University and the institute (UIPS) through videos. Dr Anurag Kuhad shared information regarding rich academic and research heritage of Panjab University, its distinguished alumni, and entrance examination specifically PU-CET-UG, PUTHAT, PU-BA/B.Com LLB (5 year) integrated course for various Bachelor’s program running in the University and their future scopes. The virtual tour of the institute showcased that Panjab University is one of the oldest universities in India which was established in 1882 as University of Panjab at Lahore and the University Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences is one of its stalwart institute known for excellence in pharmaceutical education and research across the country. Further the detailed coverage of the courses offered at UIPS, their scopes; infrastructure and state of art facility of the UIPS made students curious and they were inclined to know more about the Pharmacy Profession.

            Dr Neelima Dhingra initiated her interaction with the word “Pharmacy” and made students acquainted with the word by sharing that how pharmacy profession imparts a positive impact on public health service by discovering new drugs, ensuring the safe and effective use of medications.

            Further the emphasis on the role of India as “Pharmacy of the World” in the current unprecedented times by Dr Sangeeta Pilkhwal Sah motivated the students to take this profession as a career.

            Dr Ranjana Bhandari advocated that how adoption of entrepreneurship principles is very important in the field of pharmacy. It’s only the entrepreneurs who have made India world’s largest generic drugs exporter to the world. India has become a pharma manufacturing hub because of the efforts of entrepreneurs in the pharma market.

            The outreach acivity by UIPS under this Rashtriya Avishkar Abhiyan evoked a huge response among students. The speakers were flooded with number of questions about Honours School, courses available, entrance test requirements, eligibility, fee structure, job prospects and future career options. Dr Anurag Kuhad explored students to “Joy of Science” and inspire them to join sciences as future career path.

            This outreach activity was organised after the directions of State Project Director-Cum Director School Education Samagra Siksha, Chandigarh by Mrs Sunita Singh (Principal), Mr Paramjeet Singh (Lecture Physics) and Mr Rajesh Kumar (JBT) from Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 8-B, Chandigarh.

E-Collage making competition at PU

National Service Scheme of Panjab University, Chandigarh in collaboration with Department of Computer Science and Applications and Center of Medical Physics organized an E-Collage making competition on the theme of  Environment and Nature. More than 100 students from different colleges of India participated in the event through online mode. Students showed extra ordinary enthusiasm through their creative collages which depicted their awareness about the environment.

DCSA Chairperson Mrs. Jasleen Kaur Bains appreciated the E-collage event. The coordinator of the event Dr. Anuj Kumar said that such activities are required for the awareness about nature & environment. This will help the young generations to take cautious steps to preserve nature. PU Jyotirgamaya 91.2 MHz celebrates its 10th Birth Anniversary & World Radio Day

World Radio Day was celebrated at School of Communication Studies, Panjab University, Chandigarh, today. The Community Radio Station of Panjab University, Jyotirgamaya 91.2 MHz, also completed its ten years, today.

On this special occasion, SCS organised an online event to mark the celebration of the two occasions. This day will be remembered as another special day as Dr. Sumedha Singh, Coordinator, Jyotirgamaya 91.2 MHz, Vice-president, Community Radio Association of India (North), and Chairperson, School of Communication Studies, Panjab University, Chandigarh, signed a virtual MoU with CIET NCERT for broadcasting their education based content. Prof. (Dr.) Amarendra Behera, Joint Director, CIET NCERT, was present during the event as Guest of Honour to execute the virtual MoU. He shared his experience and memories related to radio broadcasting.

Based on the MoU, Dr. Sumedha Singh also announced the launch of a new program – Qitaabee Navaab – that will broadcast the educational content shared by CIET NCERT. Qitaabee Navaab will be a part of an ongoing program, Shiksha Ke Anek Aayaam, being broadcast thrice a day: 11:00 am, 03:00 pm, and 07:00 pm. The content to be broadcast through Qitaabee Navaab is curriculum based (including audio books & audio lessons), as well as enrichment programs (including drama, music, rhyme, radio games, quiz, stories, talks etc. based on educational concepts).

Other guest speakers present during the event were Prof. (Dr.) Ashutosh Mishra, Dean, Academics, Chitkara International University, and Dr. Pankaj Garg, Programming Head, Radio Chitkara. Prof. Mishra talked about the contribution of radio in uplifting the society. He also re-emphasized on the need of private radio stations airing news content as well as patenting their content. Dr. Garg talked about how the present technology has made radio more accessible to the public. Dr. Suresh Gaur who has worked for many years on this medium shared his experience of working on radio stations. Two people from the participants, Mr. Rajesh and Adv. Mahima Singh who have also been long associated with the world of radio shared their experiences. Adv. Mahima Singh who worked as a child artist on radio remembered those days at All India Radio when the anchors were called didi and children used to have that sense of belongingness with the programs.

Other faculty members of the School of Communication Studies, Prof. (Dr) Archana Singh, Jayanth Narayanpethkar and Dr. Bhavneet Bhatti shared their own experiences of establishing and running Jyotirgamaya 91.2 MHz housed in the School of Communication Studies, Panjab University, Chandigarh.

The event concluded with the cake cutting ceremony in the studios of Jyotirgamaya 91.2 MHz where most of the Jyotirgamaya 91.2 MHz and SCS family members were present. Dr. Sumedha Singh presented her special vote of thanks to Mr. Sunil Sharma for his extraordinary contribution to the functioning of Jyotirgamaya 91.2 MHz.

Road Safety Awareness Campaign at Panjab University

Chandigarh February 12, 2021

The Department of NSS, Panjab University, Chandigarh in collaboration with NSS Open Unit-UT, Chandigarh organized a Road Safety Campaign on 12th February, 2021at PU Gate No. 2 to create awareness on the importance of wearing Helmets and Seat Belts while driving the vehicles for the safe journey to kickstart the Road Safety Awareness Campaign Month under the theme “Sadak Suraksha” being observed from  January 18 to February 17, 2021.

The drive was inaugurated by the NSS Programme Officers Dr. Sucha Singh, Dr. Navneet Kaur, Dr. Tilak, Dr. Vivek, Dr Anuj, Dr Naveen and Mr. Binesh. More than 30 NSS volunteers participated in the Road Safety Campaign. Volunteers made people (motorists as well as pedestrians and cyclists) more aware of the traffic rules and also persuaded them to follow rules particularly wearing of helmets and seat belts while on the road. Dr. Sucha Singh also gave information about “motor vehicle act and traffic rules” and also said that the best way to keep others and yourself safe is to follow proper traffic rules. Volunteers pledged to make aware others about these traffic rules after the drive.

Prof (Dr) VK Paul, Member Niti Aayog, Releases Booklet on ‘COVID-19 Prevention- Role of Residential Welfare Association

Prof (Dr) VK Paul, Member NITI Aayog, released the infographic booklet – ‘COVID-19 Prevention- Role of Residential Welfare Association’. Professor Vinod K. Paul is a well-known medical professional and has been a faculty member at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi, for over three decades.

Prof (Dr) VK Paul commended the efforts of Dr. Suman Mor, Department of Environment Studies, Panjab University, Chandigarh; Dr. Suneela Garg, Maulana Azad Medical College, New Delhi and Dr. Ravindra Khaiwal, Department of Community Medicine & School of Public Health, Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education & Research, Chandigarh for bringing out the booklet on ‘COVID-19 Prevention: Role of Residential Welfare Association’.

Prof Paul mentioned that Residential Welfare Associations play a significant role in restricting the spread of COVID-19. This booklet emphasizes how they can further elaborate on their role in disease prevention, including their role in addressing the stigma and discrimination of COVID-19 patients and corona warriors. He added that Residential Welfare Association could provide counseling and support to COVID-19 affected families and specifically to the vulnerable members.

Prof Paul specifically stressed that Residential Welfare Association have a major role to play to address the issue of vaccine hesitancy, providing the correct information about vaccine & clearing the myths

Dr. Suneela Garg, Director Professor HAG, Maulana Azad Medical College and President-Elect- Indian Association of Public Health and Indian Association of Preventive and Social Medicine mentioned that gated community are the pillar of societies and they have a crucial role in promoting the COVID appropriate behavior to prevent the spread of diseases.

Dr. Suman Mor said that Residential Welfare Association played a significant role during the covid crisis’s peak by supporting the vulnerable population and now they can help them by providing all necessary support for the COVID vaccine.

Dr. Ravindra Khaiwal mentioned that the infographic booklet provides guidelines in simple pictorial languages about their responsibilities, including dos and don’ts, to restrict the emergence of coronavirus disease.

The authors mentioned that this infographic booklet aimed to guide the RWAs to promote COVID-appropriate behavior as scientists believe that new strain could even be worse and we need to be vigilant. The infographic is developed in partnership with Indian Public Health (IPHA) and the Indian Association of Preventive and Social Medicine (IAPSM).
