University Business School, Panjab University, Chandigarh is proud of Mr. Subhash
Kumar, who completed the Master of Commerce programme of Panjab University with
distinction in 1983, for having assumed the additional charge of the Chairman and
Managing Director of Oil and Natural Gas Corporation(ONGC) today, shared Prof. V.R.
Sinha, Dean of University Instructions, PU and Chairman, UBS. He also expressed that
it is a moment of pride for PU also.

Mr. Kumar is Director (Finance) of ONGC, one of the Global 500 companies, since
January 2018. Previously, he had a brief stint as Director (Finance) at Petronet LNG
Ltd, a role he took up in August 2017.

Mr Kumar joined ONGC in 1985 as Finance & Accounts Officer (F&AO). After initially
working in Jammu and Dehradun, he had a long stint at ONGC Videsh, the overseas arm
of ONGC. During his tenure with ONGC Videsh, Mr Kumar was associated with key
acquisitions and expansion of company’s footprint from single asset company in 2001
into a company with global presence in 17 countries with 37 assets. He played a key
role in evaluation and acquisition of many Assets abroad by ONGC Videsh.

He worked as Head Business Development, Finance & Budget and also as Head Treasury
Planning & Portfolio Management Group at ONGC Videsh from April 2010 to March 2015.
He then went on to serve as Chief Financial Officer of Mansarovar Energy Colombia
Limited, a 50:50 joint venture of ONGC Videsh and Sinopec of China, from September
2006 to March 2010.

Mr Kumar joined back ONGC as Chief Commercial & Head Treasury of ONGC in July, 2016
where he played a key role in evaluation, negotiation, and concluding outstanding
issues pertaining to the organization.

Road Committee meeting held

Chandigarh, April 1: –A meeting of Road Committee, Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh was held today in the committee room of Municipal Corporation under the Chairmanship of Sh. Dalip Sharma attended by the Special Invitee Sh. Ravi Kant Sharma, Mayor, Chandigarh along with the other members of the committee namely Sh. Bharat Kumar, Sh. Anil Kumar Dubey, Smt. Raj Bala Malik, Smt. Heera Negi, Sh. Haji Mohd. Khurshid Ali and concerned officers of Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh.

Mayor asked the concerned officers to prioritise the re-carpeting work and complete it by the end of October. The concerned Junior Engineers for all the ward to keep a check on the work done in their respective wards regularly.

The members of committee discussed various important agenda items in detail and accorded approval for the following:

1)    Proposal of proper parking facility for persons with disability.

2)    Rough Cost estimate for providing and fixing ECO/Sound proofing of hall in community centre in sector 26, Chandigarh at an estimate cost of Rs. 16.96 lacs

Fresh batch for the coaching of PCS at IAS Centre, PU

The Centre for IAS and other Competitive Examinations, Panjab University, Chandigarh, is starting a fresh batch for the coaching of PCS (Executive) (Preliminary) Examinations 2021, informed Prof. Sonal Chawla, Honorary Director of the Centre.

            It was further informed that this course is specially suitable for students who are preparing for PCS(Executive), HCS(Executive), UPPCS(Executive) and other State Civil Services Executive Examinations. The course shall be covering the topics related to the Executive Examination of State Civil Services. The distinguished faculty from Panjab University and other neighbouring Universities and Colleges having immense experience shall be roped in to teach this course. The classes for this course shall be commencing 19th April’ 2021 onwards. This batch shall be of 3 Months duration. The admission for this batch will be on First Come First Serve basis. The Centre runs many other courses for preparation of competitive examinations like UPSC Civil Services (Preliminary), PCS(Judicial), PCS(Executive), UGC(NET) etc., she added.

PU to conduct Special Exit/Final Semester Examinations

Panjab University, Chandigarh is going to conduct special examinations for the candidates who missed their exams of September – 2020 (exit/final semester examinations) due to medical/clash/etc. w.e.f. 7th April, 2021 in online mode, informed Dr. Jagat Bhushan, Controller of Examination.

            He further informed that the time slot for these ONLINE examinations is 5 PM to 8 PM.  The students are advised to follow instructions given in the questions papers and the duration shall be as written on the same. He further added that the number of questions to be attempted should strictly be according to the instructions given in the question paper itself.

Mayor flagged off 3rd phase of door to door waste collection through MCC vehicles

Chandigarh, March 31: – Sh. Ravi Kant Sharma, Mayor, Chandigarh today flagged off the 3rd phase of door to door waste collection through MCC vehicles in Community Centre, Sector 50, Chandigarh in the presence of Sh. K.K. Yadav, IAS, Commissioner, Sh. Satish Kumar Jain, Additional Commissioner, and Smt. Heera Negi, area councillor, Dr. Amrit Warring, Medical Officer of Health and other officials of MCC.

The Mayor said that in order to implementation successful door to door collection of waste separately i.e. wet and dry waste, the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh has deployed their 85 vehicles in 2nd phase in sectors 39, 40, 41, 42, 43, 44, 45, 49, 50, 51, 52, 55, 56, 61 and 63 in the city, which have reduced the problem of mixed garbage collected at garbage plant.

In addition to that Sh. Ravi Kant Sharma, Mayor, Chandigarh today flagged off door to door waste collection through 36 MCC vehicles in Mauli Jagran, Chandigarh in the presence of Sh. K.K. Yadav, IAS, Commissioner, Sh. Sorabh Arora, Joint Commissioner, Sh. Anil Dubey, area councillor, and Sh. Vinod Aggarwal, Dr. Amrit Warring, Medical Officer of Health and other officials of MCC.

The 36 vehicles will run in Mauli Jagran, Vikas Nagar and Manimajra door to door for the collection of waste separately i.e. wet and dry waste.

While sharing information about the door to door waste collection system through MCC vehicles, Sh. K.K. Yadav, IAS, Commissioner, MCC said that these vehicles will carry the waste from households to the transfer stations, from where the waste is transported to the garbage plant in loaders. All vehicles used in the collection and transportation system are monitored by a GPS enabled tracking system. The GPS system is constantly monitored by the monitoring cell. Any route deviations by particular drivers are penalized and multiple deviations is also grounds for termination, added the Commissioner.

He said that Chandigarh has been divided into 4 zones and 26 wards. Each ward has on an average 9600 households and commercial establishments of the areas. In Chandigarh, waste is generated from various sources including households, commercial areas and other institutions like RWAs, hospitals, hotels among others. The households or residential complexes are covered by the door to door collection system while the semi bulk and bulk generators are covered by the bulk collection system. With this facility, Chandigarh ensures the 100% coverage of wards through its door to door segregated collection system with deploying all the 390 additional vehicles, added the Commissioner.

The one-week long Training School under UGC Networking Resource Centre in Pharmaceutical Sciences on the theme “TOOLS ENABLING DRUG DISCOVERY AND DRUG ANALYSIS IN PHARMACEUTICAL RESEARCH” conducted by University Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences (UIPS), Panjab University, from 22 – 27 March 2021 successfully concluded today virtually via Cisco WebEx Events. 

During the valedictory programme, Professor Gajendra P S Raghava, Head, Department of Computational Biology, Indraprastha Institute of Information Technology (IIIT), New Delhi, was the Chief Guest and delivered the valedictory lecture on “Computer-aided protein therapeutic.” He apprised the participants about the different open sources softwares and web services to design therapeutic molecules. He discussed the functional classification of the peptide and protein therapeutics based on mode of activity and highlighted that T cell epitope based vaccine are the future. He encouraged going for multidisciplinary research, sharing knowledge and working in productive manner for the benefit of society. 

Earlier, Professor Indu Pal Kaur, Chairperson, UIPS & Programme Coordinator, UGC-NRC, delivered the welcome address. 

Professor Renu Chadha, Course Coordinator, briefed about the antecedents of the weeklong course. Feedback from the participants was also invited.

Dr Neelima Dhingra, Joint Course Coordinator of the School, presented the Vote of Thanks. 

During the Programme, a group of 33 faculty and research scholars from 12 states of the country were trained. A total of 29 lectures and workshops were conducted by 24 eminent speakers‎ from various academic institutions, industries, drugs regulatory officials and research organizations with expertise in diverse disciplines of pharmaceutical sciences, together with the in-house faculty of UIPS.

Grim Covid Situation in Chandigarh Delays Reopening of PU

In the wake of rising Covid cases in Chandigarh, the Panjab University authorities are following the guidelines issued by MHA and UT administration related to Covid,informed Prof S K Tomar, Dean Student Welfare.

He added that PU authorities  have prime concern of safety of students in mind.

Also, in view of emerging  grim situation of rising cases  and various containment zones being made in the city, it is not feasible to open the University in the present scenario.

However,the online classes and examinations are continuing as per schedule. University authorities are meeting regularity and thinking about various possible ways to facilitate the students in this difficult time of corona pandemic. He  urged the students to co-operate with the university authorities. 

The PU authority will review the situation as and when it improves and necessary steps will be taken to open the University accordingly.

First meeting of Bazm-E-Adab at Dept. of Urdu, PU

Bazm-E-Adab,  Literature forum of the Department of Urdu, Panjab University,
Chandigarh organized its first meeting today. Dr. Ali Abbas, Coordinator of the
Department described Psychology as an integral part of society and Literature.


        He added that psychology was the major factor behind the evolution of human
culture. “Being the heart, mind and soul of the society and its literature, it
always provided food for the thought for the betterment of human society as a whole,
he added.


         Prof. Rehana Parveen (Retd.) in her presidential address, said that the
contribution of psychology to society and literature was second to none.it has
motivated us all towards aesthetic sense and discipline.
