UGC Networking Resource Centre Programme concludes at UIPS, PU
The one-week long Training School under UGC Networking Resource Centre in Pharmaceutical Sciences on the theme “TOOLS ENABLING DRUG DISCOVERY AND DRUG ANALYSIS IN PHARMACEUTICAL RESEARCH” conducted by University Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences (UIPS), Panjab University, from 22 – 27 March 2021 successfully concluded today virtually via Cisco WebEx Events.
During the valedictory programme, Professor Gajendra P S Raghava, Head, Department of Computational Biology, Indraprastha Institute of Information Technology (IIIT), New Delhi, was the Chief Guest and delivered the valedictory lecture on “Computer-aided protein therapeutic.” He apprised the participants about the different open sources softwares and web services to design therapeutic molecules. He discussed the functional classification of the peptide and protein therapeutics based on mode of activity and highlighted that T cell epitope based vaccine are the future. He encouraged going for multidisciplinary research, sharing knowledge and working in productive manner for the benefit of society.
Earlier, Professor Indu Pal Kaur, Chairperson, UIPS & Programme Coordinator, UGC-NRC, delivered the welcome address.
Professor Renu Chadha, Course Coordinator, briefed about the antecedents of the weeklong course. Feedback from the participants was also invited.
Dr Neelima Dhingra, Joint Course Coordinator of the School, presented the Vote of Thanks.
During the Programme, a group of 33 faculty and research scholars from 12 states of the country were trained. A total of 29 lectures and workshops were conducted by 24 eminent speakers from various academic institutions, industries, drugs regulatory officials and research organizations with expertise in diverse disciplines of pharmaceutical sciences, together with the in-house faculty of UIPS.

Grim Covid Situation in Chandigarh Delays Reopening of PU

He added that PU authorities have prime concern of safety of students in mind.
Also, in view of emerging grim situation of rising cases and various containment zones being made in the city, it is not feasible to open the University in the present scenario.
However,the online classes and examinations are continuing as per schedule. University authorities are meeting regularity and thinking about various possible ways to facilitate the students in this difficult time of corona pandemic. He urged the students to co-operate with the university authorities.
The PU authority will review the situation as and when it improves and necessary steps will be taken to open the University accordingly.
He added that the authorities are ready for open dialogue with the student bodies as they are protesting for opening of the University campus

Chandigarh organized its first meeting today. Dr. Ali Abbas, Coordinator of the
Department described Psychology as an integral part of society and Literature.
He added that psychology was the major factor behind the evolution of human
culture. “Being the heart, mind and soul of the society and its literature, it
always provided food for the thought for the betterment of human society as a whole,
he added.
Prof. Rehana Parveen (Retd.) in her presidential address, said that the
contribution of psychology to society and literature was second to none.it has
motivated us all towards aesthetic sense and discipline.
Earlier, a research scholar of Urdu department Ripudaman Savrup Sharma
highlighted the psychological aspect of Qissa Puran Bhagat by Qadiryar, a famous
Punjabi poet.
Bazm-E-Adab meets every fortnightly where students can present their
creative writing and exchange their views and experience.
Prof. Prashant Kumar Gautam gets Charge of Director, Sports, PU

Management, Panjab University, Chandigarh, has been given additional charge of
Director, Physical Education with immediate effect till further orders.
Prof. Gautam is presently serving as Dean (Nominated), Faculty of
Hospitality, Tourism and Travel Mgt, IK Punjab Technical University (2021-23)
Earlier, Prof. Gautam served as Director at Institute of Hotel and Tourism
Management (UIHTM), Panjab University w.e.f. 19 August 2015 till 30.04.2019.
In addition, he is holding prominent positions in various bodies of Tourism
and Hospitality.
Governor releases of 75 cr grant in aid to MCC

Singh Badnore, Governor of Punjab and Administrator, UT, Chandigarh released grant in aid of Rs. 75 crores to the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh here today.
Sh. Ravi Kant Sharma, Mayor, Chandigarh today met with the Governor in the Punjab Raj Bhawan during which the Governor expressed his concern over to complete the ongoing projects of Municipal Corporation and released Rs. 75 crores (including Rs. 50 crores for for development work of 13 villages and Rs. 25 crores for committed liabilities under Revenue expenditure) to the Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh to meet with the development work of 13 villages and for committed liabilities under revenue expenditure for the financial year 2020-21.
While expressing his happiness over the release of grant, the Mayor extended thanks to the Governor of Punjab & Administrator, Chandigarh and said that it was made possible through the best efforts of each councilor and team of officers of MCC. He also extended thanks to Sh. Manoj Parida, IAS, Adviser to the Administrator, UT, Chandigarh and Sh. Arun Kumar Gupta, Principal Secretary Home for their best possible efforts for release of grant.
Online Principals Meet by HRDC, PU

Inaugurating the meet Prof. Raj Kumar, Vice-Chancellor said that human resource is the ultimate resource of a nation and all other resources can be utilised only if the human resources is up to the mark, educated and trained. It is both our duty and necessity to focus our attention and invest in the human resource of our institute.
Prof. S.K. Tomar, Director, HRDC, Panjab University briefed the participants about the human resource development activities of the centre. He told that in addition to faculty. It also organises programmes for the hostel wardens, researchers, academic administrators, support staff and research scholars also. He said that individuals can achieve their full potential only through hand holding, capacity building and training.
Dr. Ajay Sharma, Dr. P.S. Gaorcha, Dr. Roshan Lal, Dr. R.S. Jhanji, Dr. Neena S. Pajni institutional heads from colleges in Ludhiana, Jalalabad, Hoshiarpur, Chandigarh spoke on the theme and provided valuable insights.
Second Meeting of High Level Committee held at PU

Tiwari, Vice Chancellor, Central University of Punjab, Bathinda was held today at
Panjab University in offline mode with all the members present except Prof. V.S.
Chauhan, Chairman, Executive Committee, National Assessment and Accreditation
Council (NAAC]- Nominee of Chairman, UGC Member, who joined through online mode and
Director, (IIM) Amritsar who could not attend the meeting.
The members took cognizance of the existing governing structure of PU, its
composition and manner of its Constitution. The members also deliberated on the
governance structure of other prominent institutes like GNDU, Kurukshetra
University, Punjabi University, Delhi University, IIT, IIM etc. The members also
discussed the recommendations made by committees in the past on issue of governance
reforms of PU.
The committee further discussed that the online portal for receiving inputs
was launched on March 12, 2021 which was to be closed on 19th March, 2021 initially
but extended till 26 March, 2021. In portal, there is a limit of 250 words. It was
decided that in case, someone wants to submit more comprehensive suggestions
exceeding this limit, they can do so by emailing the same to the Registrar, Panjab
University, Chandigarh.
The committee decided to meet again to examine the suggestions of
stakeholders in the month of April 2021 for deciding future course of action.

Chandigarh organized a popular talk on “Lets Discover a De-Stress Pill” by Dr
Ruchita Sah, Associate Professor & MD (Psychiatry), DM (Child and Adolescent
Psychiatry) and Core Faculty at the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and
Research under the aegis of UGC Networking Resource Centre programme, today.
Dr Ruchita Shah remarked that though stress is universal phenomenal but still an
individual’s response to the challenges, frightening or difficulties. She sensitized
the audience that process of discovering the de-stress pill begins from recognising
the stressors. She discussed the role of time management, problem solving skills,
positive self-talk, and cognitive re-structuring in the management of stress and
emphasised to practise these general tool and techniques on daily basis to delay the
process of stress. Dr Ruchita made the session more interactive by asking questions
and addressing to queries of the audience during the session.
Earlier, Professor Indu Pal Kaur, Chairperson & Programme Coordinator, extended a
cordial welcome to all the participants and Course Coordinator introduced the
distinguished Speaker.
More than 150 participants attended the webinar.
Meeting held for Containing Covid in PU Campus

Chandigarh as well as the Director, Higher Education, Chandigarh regarding the containment of spread of Covid-19.
The members unanimously recommended that:
1. The classes will continue in online mode till further orders. However, the administrative staff of teaching departments and other offices shall continue to attend the office on all working days.
2. The online examination already scheduled shall continue as per the notified date sheet.
3. The A.C. Joshi Library and other departmental libraries shall remain closed till 31.03.2021.
4. No social gatherings including the Holi-Milan shall be held on the University campus till further orders.
5. To ensure proper Covid-19 compliant behaviour, all gatherings (for whatever reasons) of University staff and students on the campus is banned, except with the prior permission of Deputy Commissioner, Chandigarh.
