MCC invites suggestions from citizens for minimizing regulatory compliance burden

Chandigarh, July 22:- The Municipal Corporation Chandigarh has invited suggestions from citizens of Chandigarh for minimizing regulatory compliance burden for businesses and citizens.

            While sharing this development, Sh. K.K. Yadav, IAS, Commissioner, Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh said here today that all the citizen of city are requested to give their suggestions within a week on email the id i.e. [email protected] for providing more online services for Minimizing Regulatory Compliance Burden for Businesses and Citizens of Chandigarh.

The Services related to Municipal Corporation Chandigarh are as under:-

Governor inaugurates 2nd MRF-cum-Garbage Transfer Station at Chandigarh

Chandigarh, July 22:- Sh. V.P. Singh Badnore, Governor, Punjab and Administrator, UT, Chandigarh today inaugurated the second Material Recovery Facility – cum – Garbage Transfer Station at Industrial Area, Phase I, Chandigarh in the presence of Sh. Dharam Pal, IAS, Adviser to the Administrator, Sh. Ravi Kant Sharma, Mayor, Chandigarh and other senior officers of Administration and MCC.

While addressing the gathering after inauguration of the Station, the Governor appreciated the efforts of Chandigarh Smart City Ltd. and Municipal Corporation Chandigarh for strengthening the Solid Waste Management in city. He said that with the availability of these MRF stations the MCC can reduce the rush of garbage collection at single point, i.e. in dadumajra and the with the MRF facility the segregation system of dry and wet waste will be strengthened.

The Governor said that the MCC has planed to set up waste to energy plant at Dadumajra, which seems to be a good step in processing the garbage generated in the city. He said these facility stations aims at reducing the time and cost involved in collection and transfer of waste too besides generating income by recovering the reusable and recyclable waste.

Sh. Ravi Kant Sharma said on the occasion that door to door waste collection vehicles will bring segregated waste i.e. dry & wet waste in different compartments at the Material Recovery Facility which is having dedicated space for sorting of recoverable dry waste into different categories like paper, card, recyclable plastics, glass bottles, metal etc, Dry waste left after recovery of recyclable materials will be compacted in huge compactors to compost plant located in Sector 25, Daddumajra, Chandigarh. Weigh bridges have been provided for measurement of dry and wet waste within the Material Recovery Facility.

He said that MRF facility is equipped with hopper- tippers and compactor capsules for transfer of waste from smaller (3.2 cum) vehicles to 20 cum capsules where the waste will be compacted to one fifth of the original volume. The volume reduction will save cost of transportation of waste and space required for disposal of waste.

Sh. K.K. Yadav, IAS, Commissioner, MCC-cum-CEO, Chandigarh Smart City Ltd. said that waste from Sector 1, 2, 3,4, 9, 10, 11, 12, 14, 15, 16, 17, 22, 23, 24, 25, 35, 36, 37, 38, 39, 40, 41, 42, 43, 52, 53, 54, 55, 56, Part 61 will be brought to MRF cum Garbage transfer station at Industrial area Phase I, Chandigarh.

He further said that the MRF stations will further be equipped with parking facilities and vehicle washing facilities. These will be monitored through 20 CCTV cameras. Each transfer station will have Material Recovery Facility cum Transfer Stations with 2 Conveyer Belts for each station, Industrial Shed, 3 Weigh Bridge, one Wash System, CCTV, Mechanical equipment for volume reduction of waste to one fifth of original volumes and 9 truck loaded capsules to carry compacted waste to Processing Plant / Composting plant site. The total project is being implement through two contract packages one for civil and one for Mechanical works.

Earlier, the Governor and other dignitaries planted saplings of ornamental trees in the compound area of MRF Station.

Tree Plantation Drive at PU

A tree plantation drive cum Teej celebration was organized jointly by Girls Hostel No. 3 (Sarojini Hall) and Working Women Hostel of Panjab University, Chandigarh. 

The guest of honour for the event were Dr. Chandra Trikha, Director of Haryana Sahitya Akademi, Panchkula and Shri. Madhav Kaushik, Vice President of National Sahitya Akademi, New Delhi. Prof. S.K. Tomar (Dean Student Welfare), Prof. Meena Sharma (Dean Student Welfare, Women), Prof. Ashok Kumar (Associate Dean of Student Welfare) and wardens of variuos hostels also graced the event. 

The drive started from Working Women Hostel and ended in Sarojini Hall whereby, saplings  of Hibiscus, Neem, bougainvillea Herbs etc. were planted by the guests and hostel residents.

A virtual competition was also organized in Sarojini Hall in order to mark the presence of students sitting back home where the students were asked to share images with the plants they planted in their homes. Simran, Sukhwant and Manju bagged first three positions. The initiative was conducted with the novel intent of increasing the green cover of the beautiful Panjab University.

Mayor inaugurates Green Belt in Village Kajheri

Chandigarh, July 20:- Sh. Ravi Kant Sharma, Mayor, Chandigarh inaugurated the newly developed Green Belt at Village Kajheri, here today in presence of Smt. Chandarwati Shukla, Area Councilor, Sh. K.P. Singh, S.E. Horticulture & Electrical MC, Sh. Jangsher Singh, Executive Engineer, Horticulture, other officers of MCC and prominent persons of the area.

The Mayor appreciated the work done by the engineering wing, MCC and the dedication of area councillor to follow up the developmental works of her area regularly. He said that this beautiful green belt will be beneficial for all people including young, old and children of the local area.

He informed about the main features of the Green belt having total area 1.50 acres including boundary wall, children play equipment, foot paths, benches, plantation of ornamental trees, grassing etc. have been provided at a cost of Rs. 47 lacs. In addition to that various flower beds have been developed in this green belt.

Medical devices group at UIET granted patent on wearable glove device

Medical Devices group from Design Innovation Centre at UIET, Panjab University, Chandigarh has been granted a patent on the invention titled- WEARABLE APPARATUS FOR DETERMINING GONIOMETRIC READINGS OF A BODY PORTION OF A SUBJECT “. Its a device designed and fabricated within the lab at UIET in consultation with physicians which would ease diagnosis and early detection of finger/hand related joint disorders. This device is IoT enabled which is its unique novelty apart from the design and is particularly useful for real time and remote sense monitoring, due to which patient need not visit a physician physically for his/her consultation.

A vibrant team of students including Rashi, Sahil, Varun and Poojita from different engineering branches were ably led by faculty investigators Dr. Prashant Jindal from Mechanical Engineering and Dr. Mamta Juneja from Computer Science and Engineering for developing this invention, that took more than 3 years.

This invention was fully funded by MHRD, Design Innovation Centre, which went through different stages of progression including National and International events organized by Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC), wherein it bagged 3rd prize out of 3400 other ideas. This invention has also been granted a seed funding of Rs.4 Lacs by AICTE for upgrading it into a start up

PATENT GRANTED OUT OF COLLABORATIVE RESEARCH BETWEEN PANJAB UNIVERSITY AND PUNJAB ENGINEERING COLLEGE

A patent entitled “Improved Calcium Orthophosphate for Biomedical Applications and Method Thereof” was granted on 16.7.2021 to Panjab University and Punjab Engineering College. The product is an outcome of research collaboration between Dr.Seema Kapoor, Professor of Dr. SSBUICET, P.U. and Dr. Uma Batra, Professor& Head, Dept. of Metallurgical & Materials Engineering, PEC. They initiated research collaboration in the field of Biomaterials in the year 2009 informed Dr.Kapoor.

The technical advancement lies in synthesizing mesoporous calcium orthophosphate using a facile and novel technique where inclinically important elements potassium and siliconare co-substituted optimally to attain good bio-resorption activity that stimulates the bone repair and regeneration, told Dr.Batra. The synthetic mesoporous calcium orthophosphate has potential usage for ingeniously development of bone scaffold, bone void filler, bone cements, coating or constituent of bio composites, bone graft or bone substitute biomaterial land for drug and gene delivery. Some important applications include orthopaedic surgery, dentistry and cosmetic surgery.

Dr.Batra further stated that the method of synthesizing the mesoporous calcium orthophosphate can be scaled up to commercial scale to be manufactured by pharmaceutical industries. The material of the said patent is totally synthetic and developed from the chemicals so that it does not cause any kind of an infection in the body. The cost effectiveness comes from the fact that the material has been developed indigenously in the research lab and it has improved functionality as compared to the imported products, averred Dr.Kapoor.
