Celebrations of Amrut Mahotsav at PU

Chandigarh August 9, 2021

The office of Dean international Students, Department of Sociology, Department of Social Work and Department of History celebrated Amrut Mahotsav 75 years of India’s Independence by special lecture of Professor Rajendra Khimani , Vice Chancellor, Gujarat Vidyapith University, Ahmedabad, who spoke about the lifestyle during Pandemic.

Prof.  Khimani follows the path of Gandhiji and highlighted to the participants that they should eat homemade food with less quantity, do regular physical activity and follow naturopathy in order to fight the woes of the pandemic. He focused on simplicity and use of natural resources to combat pandemics. He also elaborated on policy of reduce ,reuse and recycle for the benefit of all . He also mentioned about the focus on Indian culture and its various languages to make education more viable and vibrant with maximum participation by all including those belonging to rural areas. These are also part of the NEP 2020 which gives encouragement to teaching in local languages, dignity of labour etc. for which he has himself made efforts in his university.

Prof. Anju Suri, Dean International Students, highlighted various achievements of India over the years be it Olympics, mission to Mars, nuclear power plants etc.

 Earlier, Prof. Rani Mehta, Chairperson, Sociology Department, introduced the speaker by mentioning about the innovative techniques of recycling of drainage water, terrace farming, roof water harvesting and other energy saving programmes which were started by him in Gujarat Vidyapith.  

The vote of thanks was given by Prof. Anju Suri and it was well attended by participants from the region.

Water Supply &Sewer Disposal Committee meeting held

Chandigarh, August 6:- A meeting of Water Supply and Sewer disposal committee, MC, Chandigarh was held under the chairmanship of Sh. Shkati Parkash Devshali and attended by Sh. Ravi Sharma, Special invitee, other members namely Sh. Mahesh Inder Singh, Smt. Asha Jaswal, Sh. Jagtar Singh, Sh. Ajay Dutta and Sh. Rajesh Kalia and concerned officers of MCC.

The committee members discussed various issues related to development and problems faced by the citizens pertaining to water supply and storm water drainage system.

The members suggested that Half glass of water may be served in all the meetings of MCC in future to save the water.

The committee also discussed that fixed the limit of charges to be born by the citizens applied for new water connection for last three years only not more than that.

The committee asked the concerned officers to reshuffle the timings of Tertiary Treated water supply from afternoon to morning and evening for the convenience of general public.

The committee also raised the concern over the rain water harvesting in Chandigarh and its implementation on phased manner i.e. from the community centres falling under the jurisdiction of MC, Chandigarh.

PU Honors the Covid 19 Frontline Workers

The Centre for Social Work and NSS, Panjab University, Chandigarh honored 16 Swachhta Karyakartas under the SWACHHTA PAKHWADA-2021 (1-15 August, 2021).

Area CSIs will sort out the issues related to Garbage collection Charges in villages

Chandigarh, August 4:- A delegation of representatives from different villages falling under the jurisdiction of Municipal Corporation Chandigarh today met with Sh. Ravi Kant Sharma, Mayor, Chandigarh regarding the issue of garbage collection charges.

The Mayor said that the concerned area Chief Sanitary Inspectors have been deputed to sort out the issues related to the residents of their area in villages for garbage collection charges. He said that the area CSIs have been asked to fix a time at the local community halls in the villages or other places, which are convenient to the local residents for the early disposal of the issues pertaining to garbage collection charges.

Cleanliness cum Plantation drive at PU

A Cleanliness cum Plantation drive was organized by Department of National Service Scheme, Panjab University at Children Park Near Teacher’s Flat, Sector 14, PU Chandigarh.

In this cleanliness cum plantation drive many teachers and NSS volunteers participated which also included Dr. Anuj Kumar, Dr. Navneet Kaur and Dr. Vivek Kapoor

Gagandeep Singh, NSS UIET Programming Officer, said that similar drives should be conducted in order to maintain a healthy atmosphere and have a positive impact on society. He urged the volunteers to look after the saplings properly.

New Batch for IAS Centre commences today

The Centre for IAS and Other Competitive Examinations, Panjab University, Chandigarh began a new batch for ‘Interview Preparation and Personality Development Course’ on 2nd August’ 2021 onwards. This course has been started by the centre specifically for the students who are interested in honing their Personality and Interview Skill through Techniques like Group Discussions, Interview Skills, Self Introduction at Interview, Resume Writing, Body Language, Building Self Confidence, Public Speaking, Enhancing Communication Skills, etc. In this regard, an Inaugural-cum-Orientation Talk was organized by the Centre for the students of this Centre.

The Chief Guest for this event was Justice Jasbir Singh. The Orientation talk was delivered by  Sh. Sofi Zahoor, Ex-CII President and a prolific HR Head of many MNCs. Staff and students of Panjab University overwhelmingly attended the talk.

Justice Jasbir Singh interacted with students and guided them by giving various examples. Sh. Sofi Zahor motivated and guided the students towards enhancing their strengths and overcoming their weaknesses. He laid stress on moving from ‘Survival of Fittest to Survival of Fastest’, Challenging their minds and setting constructive goals and objectives in life.

Tree Plantation at Community Centre, PU

Chandigarh August 2, 2021

The Horticulture Division organised a plantation today in the premises of  Community Centre, Sector 25, Campus, Panjab University, Chandigarh. 75 plants of Chorisia Speciosa donated by Adv. Jatin Salwan were planted alongwith plants of ficus.

CA Vikram Nayyar, Registrar was the Chief Guest at the plantation. Prof. Jagat Bhushan, Controller of Examinations was the Guest of Honour.

Others present included Sh. Vikram Singh, Chief of University Security, Mrs. Renuka Salwan, Director Public Relations, PU, and other faculty and staff members of Horticulture department.

The Registrar appreciated Sh. Jatin Salwan for consistently donating trees and plants from last 3 years for various locations in the PU Campus. He also appreciated the  efforts of the Horticulture Division and said that such initiatives play a great role in creating awareness about environment among masses and the staff and residents of the university should come forward to support these initiatives.

Anil Thakur, Divisional Engineer (Hort.) said on this occasion that in pursuance of the initiative of Prof. Raj Kumar, Vice Chancellor, the plantation drive of Horticulture Division carried out in monsoon season is in full swing and various departments are participating enthusiastically in this drive.

IGNOU TEE June, 2021 starts from 3rd August, 2021

IGNOU Term End Examinations June, 2021 for the final year of Under Graduate and Post Graduate programmes along with their backlogs (if any), Post Graduate Diploma, Diploma, Post Graduate Certificate and Certificate programmes are going to commence from 03rd August, 2021 and will conclude on 09th September, 2021 in the region.

The students may download the Hall Tickets from the University website (http://www.ignou.ac.in/ and appear in the examination.

Dr. Anil Kumar Dimri, Regional Director, IGNOU, Regional Center, Chandigarh informed that students are advised to be in possession of the valid Identity Card issued by the University at the time of admission during the examination. Under Regional Centre Chandigarh 6975 eligible students have been issued Hall Tickets for this examination who will be appearing in different programmes.  IGNOU RC Chandigarh has deputed Observers for monitoring examination activities and monitoring team has also been deputed by IGNOU headquarter, New Delhi for the smooth conduct of Term End Examination in the region. IGNOU Regional Center Chandigarh has established 08 Examination Centers for TEE June, 2021 including 02 Exam Centers in Jails at Chandigarh & Ambala for jail inmates.

Hall Ticket (Examination Intimation Slips) have been issued to Final Year/End Semester Masters, Bachelors, PG Diploma, Diploma and PG Certificate, Certificate programmes and who have applied and are found eligible for appearing in the Term-end Examination.  The Hall Tickets are available on IGNOU website www.ignou.ac.in.

The students may download the Hall Tickets from the University website and appear in the examination.

The Examination Centres have been instructed to allow students, with a valid Identity Card, to appear in examination, even if they do not possess the Hall Ticket (Examination Intimation Slips), but their names exist in the list of examinees for that centre.

During the entire period of examinations the examination centres will implement the social Distancing and other measures as per Government of India guidelines in current scenario of COVID-19 to ensure health and safety of the students.

Students are also required to adhere to the guidelines and maintain the social distancing, wear mask, use of sanitizer and maintain hygiene to ensure safety and health of their own and fellow students.

Students are advised to be in possession of the valid Identity Card issued by the University/Govt. during the Examination. Mobile phones and any other electronic gadgets are not permitted inside the examination hall.

Cleanliness cum Plantation drive at PU

A Cleanliness cum Plantation drive was organized by  National Service Scheme in association with Horticulture Division of Panjab University  at Hibiscus Park, Sector 14, Chandigarh. In this cleanliness cum plantation drive many teachers and NSS volunteers participated. Dr. Anuj Kumar, NSS Programme officer said that such events are now the necessity of the society for a healthy environment. He urged the volunteers to ensure proper care of the saplings.
