The Environment Preservation and Awareness Committee of Panjab University alongwith Horticulture Division, celebrated International Day of Clean Air for Blue Skies by organizing a plantation drive near Boys Hostel no.8 in Panjab University to spread the message of clean air. The day is celebrated to emphasize that clean air is an essential requirement for human beings and all life on Earth. Unfortunately, industrialization has polluted our air and water sources heavily leading to severe health disorders.

            15 plants each of sagwan and neem, which are eco friendly and have air purifying quality, were planted. The plantation was attended by Dr. Suman Mor, Chairperson, Deptt. of Environment Studies and Chairperson Environment Preservation and Awareness Committee, Prof. Monica Randhawa, UIET, Dr. Manjushri Sharma, UIAMS, Dr. A.N. Singh, Deptt. of Botany, Er. Anil Thakur, Divisional Engineer (Horticulture), Er. Amandeep Singla, Assistant Engineer (Horticulture) and research scholars of Environment Studies & Botany.

            Dr. Suman Mor stressed upon the need of clean air to lead a healthy lifestyle. Er. Anil Thakur gave the message that the Horticulture Division of Panjab University is doing number of plantations, in which most of the plants are air purifier and to create awareness about environment among the masses. The day is celebrated after the resolution adopted by the United Nations General Assembly, September 7, became the International Day of Clean Air for blue skies. 2020 marked the first international observance of the day with the theme “Clean Air for All.”

Substitute of online services related to MCC in Hindi also

Chandigarh, September 7:- Sh. Ravi Kant Sharma, Mayor, Chandigarh today formally launched the “Hindi Pakhwara” at MCC building here today in the presence of Ms. Anindita Mitra, IAS, Commissioner, Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh.

While addressing all the senior officers and heads of various wings of MCC, the Mayor said that different programmes will be organized during the Hindi Pakhwara scheduled to be held from 7th to 21st September, 2021. He said that possibilities will be explored to create “Hindi Vibhag” in the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh to promote Hindi language in the office.

The Mayor said that the water bills should be in both languages i.e. English as well as Hindi. He said that different competitions will be organized during the Hindi Pakhwara including Essay writing, Slogan writing, Pledge, handwriting competition besides story writing etc. He said that prizes will be given to the winners on 21st September, 2021.

Ms. Anindita Mitra, IAS, Commissioner, Municipal Corporation said on the occasion that for the ease of citizens of Chandigarh all the online services related to Municipal Corporation Chandigarh will be in English and Hindi language also. She asked the concerned officers to execute the same within one week.

She said that officials and officers will put more efforts to promote Hindi in the office and all the communications/public notices to the residents of Chandigarh including vendors and other license holders will be served in Hindi language also.

Civil dispensary opens at rehabilitation colony, sector 52; nearly 35000 residents to benefit

Chandigarh, September 7:- Sh. Ravi Kant Sharma, Mayor, Chandigarh today inaugurated newly constructed civil dispensary at a cost of Rs. 1.23 crores at rehabilitation colony, sector 52, Chandigarh in the presence of Ms. Anindita Mitra, IAS, Commissioner, Municipal Corporation Chandigarh. The dispensary would cater to a population of around 35000 residents of the local area.

He said that the civil dispensary will serve rural area of village Kajheri, EWS/rehabilitation colony, electricity colony, sector 52 and will also help the people around for a cost effective medical treatment. He said that this dispensary will also be used for regular check-up of staff working with Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh specially focusing on wide coverage for door to door waste collectors with also possible medical health facilities.

While elaborating about the features and facilities in the civil dispensaries managed by MCC, the Commissioner said that the two dispensaries in sector 49 and 50 are being managed by the PGIMER and the medicines used are provided by Director, Health Services office, Chandigarh to these dispensaries and process has been initiated to sign an arrangement with PGIMER on the same pattern for this dispensary also.

She also briefed about the infrastructure provided in the civil dispensary, that two doctor rooms, ANM room with store, Injection room, Laboratory, Store and Chowkidar, Reception, Registration room with Pharmacy store with adequate facility of separate gender friendly toilet blocks.

The Mayor also said that in addition to that upgradation of other services are also going on in EWS/rehabilitation colony besides recarpeting of internal roads, construction of phirni of village Kajheri, construction of streets. Construction of community centre in village Kajheri is in progress and will be completed shortly, she added.

Others present during the inauguration were Smt. Chanderawati Shukla, area councilor, other officers & councilors of MCC and prominent persons of local area.

UIFT organises Workshop on “Lippan Cone Art”

University Institute of Fashion Technology & Vocational Development (UIFT & VD), Panjab University, Chandigarh organized a one-day online art workshop on ‘Lippan Cone Art’ for the students of M.Sc. and B.Sc. Fashion and Lifestyle Technology. The demonstrations of the workshop was conducted on 18thof August, 2021 and students were given two weeks to prepare final products that they presented the same on 6th September 2021. 

The traditional mural craft of Rajasthan and Gujarat was demonstrated by Resource person Mrs. Santosh Verma. She explained the process and also elaborated upon modern techniques that are used today. Though this artform is traditionally created with the colour white, she also explained how colour can be introduced into this artform. She gave an online live demonstration on the technique and process of creating Lippan Cone Art and further enhanced the designs with the use of mirror cut-outs.

Dr Anu H. Gupta, Chairperson UIFT & VD shared her views on the importance of learning and understanding our rich Art & Craft heritage. She also stressed on learning these age-old craft techniques and merging them with contemporary ideas which opens new avenues for the students.

The workshop was well received and participants created a diverse range of artworks using the Lippan technique. Products like decorated mirrors, picture frames, and other home lifestyle products were created and presented by the participating students.

In his message , he added that we all know that a nation depends on the activities of the teachers and education system of the 21st century has changed radically with the integration of the technology in every sector with more matured students and education that meets requirements of industry and lays emphasis on life and career skills with no value for rote learning. The role of teacher in modern educational system is not only imparting merely knowledge to students but also, as a real architect of new generation, who is responsible to build personality of modern citizens. A teacher should be a lifelong learner and an excellent listener and their learning is the real meaning of learning from cradle to grave. Great teachers are not born in the minds of the students but they are born in the hearts of the students and a good teacher is like a candle – it consumes itself to light the way for others, he added.

The present day need is of dedicated teachers who work conscientiously and contribute their mite for the all-inclusive development of the society by imparting proper education to the students which also cultivates virtues in their hearts. To make the lives of our students purposeful, a bonding relationship based on mutual trust and respect needs to be developed. I wish that such should be the student-teacher relationship that meeting with him brings delight and departure leave pleasant thoughts.

Commissioner warned parking contractors to implement all mandatory features within one week

Chandigarh, September 1:- Ms. Anindita Mitra, IAS, Commissioner, Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh today warned the paid parking contractors to implement mandatory features in all parking lots according to the Tender document failing which immediate penal provisions shall be imposed.

In this regard a meeting was held here today under the chairpersonship of Commissioner, MCC which was attended by the paid parking contractors and all concerned officers of MCC. During the meeting various issues were discussed and the following measures have been decided to implement immediately.

·        Rate lists will have to be displayed wherever not displayed yet.

·        “No parking” and “No haphazard parking” Sign boards to be displayed.

·        Pictures of number plates of serious violators to be taken and action to be initiated against them in coordination with police and concerned MCC authorities. A whatsapp group of the concerned contractors, area police and concerned MCC officials to be created to ensure the same.

·        Display of LED screens should be proper functional.

·        Existing app should be made proper functional immediately to show real time space slots available in the parking lot.

·        Ensure internet related issues resolved in all the parking lots.

·        Proper quality uniform should be ensured for the deployed attendants at parking lot.

·        Entry of vehicle and out punching should be properly synchronized and recorded.

·        Photographic evidence be maintained of each and every service to be adhered in the parking lots.

·        MCC authorities in coordination with police will remove/tow the wrongly parked vehicles.

·        Daily inspection report including features functional be submitted. Contractors were given 7 days to implement all the features, after which MCC shall revisit/inspect each and every parking lot.

IGNOU extends Admission up to 15th September, 2021

The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has extended the last date of submission of online Fresh admission and Re-Registration of all Masters, Bachelor, Diplomas & Certificate programmes up to 15th September, 2021 for the July-2021 session. Details of the IGNOU academic programmes for the July, 2021 session can be accessed from the link https://ignouadmission.samarth.edu.in/. The prospective learners can apply for Masters/Bachelor/Diploma/Certificate programmes of the University on the official website, informed The Regional Director of IGNOU Regional centre Chandigarh Dr. A.K.Dimri. Last date of submission of ‘online’ admission form for July session was earlier fixed for August, 31.

UIFT, PU hosts Orientation Sessions for New Students

University Institute of Fashion Technology & Vocational Development (UIFT & VD), Panjab University today hosted Special Orientation Lectures for BSc first semester students.

The newly admitted students were welcomed by the department chairperson Dr Anu H. Gupta and other faculty members. Dr Neha Miglani took a special lecture on “Communication in the times of COVID-19 pandemic” for the first year students. She shared her ideas on e-learning and how the transition to another medium has opened up a host of opportunities and new innovations. Dr Nikita took a lecture on “Future of Fashion Retail business” and shared her thoughts on changing paradigms due to e-retailing and emergence of new formats of business.

Dr Anu H. Gupta briefed the students about history of U.I.F.T. and its key achievements. She further introduced the department faculty members to the new students and asked them to reach out for help as and when they require. Students also got a chance to introduce themselves and talk about their likes and dislikes, some of them shared about their existing business ventures on Instagram, while others talked about their family background and their creative instincts.

Chandigarh, No power in the world can separate the ‘Crown of the nation’ Jammu and Kashmir from India. At present, India is not only taking actions against terrorism within the country but is also successful in destroying their outfits across the border. This was stated by the Defense Minister Rajnath Singh while expressing his views on the topic of ‘National Security’ during the third Balramji Das Tandon Memorial Lecture organized by Punjab University on Monday.

In his address, Rajnath Singh emphasized that the whole world is now aware of the scale of India’s strength. In the recent years, there has been a lot of change in the action of the Indian Army. He said that the confidence and morale of the army is high, which can be estimated from this that in the last seven years, they have not allowed a single major terrorist activity in the hinterland. He said that Pakistan-backed terrorism is slowly collapsing in India. In recent years, Pakistan had increased ‘Cease Fire Violation’ on the border, but they have always got a befitting reply from the Indian Army. Referring to China, Rajnath Singh said that we have had a ‘perceptual difference’ with China for a long time. He said that the ‘Agreed Protocol’ between the two nations was ignored by China, after which the Indian Army once again showed its valor to the whole world by taking a step back to China’s PLA Army.

He said that the initiation being done to strengthen India’s national security is unprecedented in itself. He also made it clear that the country has to update and upgrade itself due to the challenges of national security. Also, the present government will not compromise on the security of the national. The government is always ready for the security of the country with air, naval and land prospective.

IGNOU, Study Centre Panjab University marks eye donation week

The students of Social Work at the IGNOU study centre Panjab University Chandigarh marked the Eye awareness and donation week at USOL today. The programme was organised by Dr Monica Singh Faculty Social Work and presided over by Coordinator, IGNOU Mr Jessu Jaskaran Singh. Dr Ujjawal and Mr Raghvendra Rai Medical Social Welfare officer of the Eye department, GMCH 32 Chandigarh delivered a talk where they mentioned about the importance of eye care, prevention of various eye problems and motivated the students to sensitise the society about the same and also encourage people to come forward for eye donation pledge. It was an interactive session which would further help in reaching out to the various sections of the society.
