Punjabi folk, Giddha & Bhangra Mark Teej Festival
Chandigarh, August 19: – The one day colourful Teej programme has been organised with great zeal in the Janj Ghar, Sector 23, here today. Sh. Ravi Kant Sharma, Mayor of Chandigarh was the Chief Guest and Sh. K.K. Yadav, IAS, Commissioner, MC, Chandigarh was Guest of Honour during the programme.
Smt. Shipra Bansal, Chairperson, Arts, Culture & Sports committee, Sh. Mahesh Inder Siddhu, Senior Deputy Mayor, Smt. Farmila, Deputy Mayor, Smt. Sunita Dhawan, area councilor, Sh. Sanjay Tandon, Director GAIL, Smt. Priya Tandon, writer and eminent social worker, Sh. Arun Sood, President, Chandigarh BJP, other councilors & officers of MCC and prominent persons of area were also present during the event.
The function was marked with Punjabi, Haryanvi, Rajasthani, folk dances, songs, fusion of Giddha & Bhangra and Teeian de Geet on DJ. The audience present in the programme could not stop themselves to dance on the foot-tapping beats of “Dhol” and popular Punjabi numbers.
The Mayor stressed upon the necessity to perpetuate cultural values among the masses especially in younger generation. He also enlightened the gathering about the social, religious and historical significance of the Teej Festival. The Mayor also sung a beautiful folk song of Punjab “Maye ni Maye…”.
Smt. Asha Jaswal, former Mayor and MCC councilor also sung a Himachali song dedicated to girls on the Teej programme.
While Welcoming the Guests, Ms. Shipra Bansal said that Municipal Corporation Chandigarh has made this festival as an annual feature but due to COVID precautions this time this was not opened for general public. She said that people of Chandigarh should know about their rich culture and we the Municipal Corporation is making small effort to gather the precious traditional festivals like Teej.
Earlier, the Chairperson Arts, Culture & Sports Committee and others honoured the Chief Guest, Guest of Honour and other Guests & councilors during the programme by giving them traditional shawls/Phulkaris and medicinal plants.
