Plantation Drive near BH-8, PU
The Environment Preservation and Awareness Committee of Panjab University alongwith Horticulture Division, celebrated International Day of Clean Air for Blue Skies by organizing a plantation drive near Boys Hostel no.8 in Panjab University to spread the message of clean air. The day is celebrated to emphasize that clean air is an essential requirement for human beings and all life on Earth. Unfortunately, industrialization has polluted our air and water sources heavily leading to severe health disorders.
15 plants each of sagwan and neem, which are eco friendly and have air purifying quality, were planted. The plantation was attended by Dr. Suman Mor, Chairperson, Deptt. of Environment Studies and Chairperson Environment Preservation and Awareness Committee, Prof. Monica Randhawa, UIET, Dr. Manjushri Sharma, UIAMS, Dr. A.N. Singh, Deptt. of Botany, Er. Anil Thakur, Divisional Engineer (Horticulture), Er. Amandeep Singla, Assistant Engineer (Horticulture) and research scholars of Environment Studies & Botany.
Dr. Suman Mor stressed upon the need of clean air to lead a healthy lifestyle. Er. Anil Thakur gave the message that the Horticulture Division of Panjab University is doing number of plantations, in which most of the plants are air purifier and to create awareness about environment among the masses. The day is celebrated after the resolution adopted by the United Nations General Assembly, September 7, became the International Day of Clean Air for blue skies. 2020 marked the first international observance of the day with the theme “Clean Air for All.”
