MCC to connect masses with mother Earth through cleanups & avoiding banned plastic
Celebrates International Mother Earth day*
Chandigarh, April 22:- Aims at connecting masses with the Mother Earth through cleanups and avoiding plastic, the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh has celebrated International Mother Earth day in a unique initiative with the citizens of the city beautiful today.
By organizing small events to bring big change in the lives of citizens, the MCC has organized special cleaning drives in various parts of city besides its routine cleaning process alongwith distributing cloth bags and badges to the masses.
During the programmes at different areas, awareness campaigns have been organized to stop the usage of single use plastic and pasted plastic waste ban stickers on the shops in sector 17 market and other areas.
Separate teams of the Municipal Corporation, Presidents and office bearers of Resident Welfare Associations and Market Welfare Associations and ‘Swachhta’ Warrior Moms wished all the shopkeepers with flower sticks, who are taking measures to avoid use of single use plastic and offering discounts to customers for bringing cloth bags while coming for shopping.
The MCC also distributed cloth bags to the customers and citizens made by the city based Self Help Groups. The cloth bags have been made with the old cloths donated by the citizens to the MCC under the 3R initiative.
While speaking on the International Mother Earth day, Ms. Anindita Mitra, IAS, Commissioner, MCC said that one of the best ways to connect with the earth is through cleanup. She said that people should go on a walk with a trash bag and help to clean up any plastic that they find. She said that the Government has initiated a series of programmes to Save the Earth from deforestation to Save water by involving the students to inculcate in them the spirit of love for Mother Nature.
