MCC gears up for Swachh Survekshan 2020
Chandigrh, January 3:– The Municipal Corporation Chandigarh has taken a series of measures to help the city do well in the Swachh Survekshan 2020 starting from this week.
In this regard, Sh. K.K. Yadav, IAS, Commissioner, Municipal Corporation Chandigarh today called a meeting with the office bearers of Market Welfare Associations, Resident Welfare Associations and Chandigarh Hotel Association in MCC office.
The Commissioner said that ahead of the survey, the MCC appealed to all the associations in the city to involve themselves in the Swachh Survekshan 2020 and took part in this mega competition. He ensured that the concerned officers of MCC will look into the daily problems in their respective areas alongwith the office bearers or representatives of the associations for better results.
He said that the Swachh Survekshan is not just limited to cleanliness drives, but it has a number of components to deal with. They include garbage collections, source segregation, waste reduction and disposal, maintenance of toilets and many more. He said that every year the number of criteria to meet and the participation of Urban Local Bodies have been increasing. He said that the citizen involvement and their active participation is most important part to succeed in the Swachh Survekshan.
He said that for service level progress, contrary to one-time annual assessment in the earlier editions, the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs has asked the Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) to update Swachh Bharat Mission online MIS (Management Information System) portal on a monthly basis. The ULB data which was uploaded will be verified manually by officials interacting with public to make sure they are accurate.
He said that citizen feedback caters to 25% of total 6000 marks which includes twelve questions from public and also responses through Swachhata app. Direct Observation which carries 1500 marks has nine sub-components in it, where the team will observe whether residential/commercial areas are clean, are public and community toilets clean, whether all fruit/vegetable markets are clean and a few others. He said that door-to-door garbage collection, segregation, wet/dry waste composting yards, and a few others will play a crucial role in the results.
