*MCC Celebrates Zero Waste “Swachh Kanjak Pooja,” Building Community Spirit and Commitment to Sustainability*
*Mayor Serves Prasad to Over 500 Children at Shahpur Colony*
*Chandigarh, October 11:-* To celebrate tradition and instill the value of cleanliness (swachhata) within the community, the Municipal Corporation of Chandigarh organized a zero waste “Swachh Kanjak Pooja” that marked the completion of Navratras with the Kanya Pooja ritual on Maha Navami at Shahpur Colony near 38 West, Chandigarh.
Mayor Sh. Kuldeep Kumar, along with MC councillor Sh. Damanpreet Singh and other officials from MCC, served prasad to over 500 children during the “Swachh Kanjak Pooja.”
City Mayor Sh. Kuldeep Kumar stated, “This initiative not only honors our rich cultural traditions but also teaches the importance of cleanliness and sustainability to our children. It is vital for the future of our community.”
He further emphasized that by making small changes in our daily lives—such as properly segregating waste and adopting a zero waste lifestyle—we can contribute to a greener city and improve our ranking in the upcoming Swachh Survekshan 2024.
Commissioner Sh. Vinay Pratap Singh, IAS, added, “The success of the Swachh Kanjak Pooja demonstrates MCC’s commitment to creating a cleaner and more responsible society. Together, we can lead by example and inspire others to adopt eco-friendly practices.”
The “Swachh Kanjak Pooja” was organized following all zero waste parameters, emphasizing sustainable practices, including cloth tents and steel utensils sourced from Bartan Bhandar, a women’s self-help group under the DAY-NULM initiative, as well as twin bins available on the premises.
Additionally, the women’s self-help group played a key role by preparing the food for the Swachh Kanjak Pooja, highlighting the importance of community involvement.
This initiative not only celebrates cultural traditions but also emphasizes the importance of environmental responsibility among the younger generation.
