MCC bags 1st prize in National Energy Conservation awards
Chandigarh, January 11:- The Municipal Corporation Chandigarh has got the first prize in the National Energy conservation awards (Municipality sector) in a programme held at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi today.
The award has been received by Sh. Ravi Kant Sharma, Mayor and Sh. K.K. Yadav, IAS, Commissioner, Municipal Corporation Chandigarh through virtual presence. The award has been presented by Sh. R.K. Singh, Minister of State for Power and New & Renewable Energy during the 30th National Energy Conservation Awards-2020 function.
After receiving the award, Sh. Ravi Kant Sharma, Mayor said that the MCC has done commendable efforts for earning this coveted National award. He said that the officers under the leadership of the Commissioner has put their best efforts in replacing entire street lights with energy efficient LED lights in the city.
The Commissioner said that with aim to reduce its energy foot-print and cut down on electricity consumption costs, Municipal Corporation Chandigarh replaced all the 48524 street light points with energy efficient LED street lights in the city. He said that with the result the city saved approx. 13.02 Million Units of energy annually and reduced its power bills from 14 crore annually to Rs. 8 crore on account of street lights.
He said that these LED street lights are also eco friedly and 10543 metric tonne of carbon foot prints are reduced annually. The MCC also installed Roof Top Solar Plants on its buildings and water works and generating 8 Mega Watt from alternate source earning 2.35 crore yearly. CREST has also made a proposal to install floating solar panels on the raw water tanks which will have a proposed capacity of 12 Mega Units, he added.
