*Chandigarh, December 19:-* With the objective of providing clean and inclusive sanitation facilities in the city, the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh starts rejuvenation work of four new Aspirational Public Conveniences in the city.

City Mayor Sh. Anup Gupta and Ms. Anindita Mitra, IAS, Municipal Commissioner formally starts the renovation work at toilet block, Palika Bazar, Sector 19, here today in the presence of prominent persons of the local area. Aimed to enhance public sanitation and improve the overall quality of life for residents and visitors, this initiative is part of the ‘clean toilet campaign’.

While sharing information about the renovation of these four toilet blocks, the Mayor said that by initiating the construction of these public convenience facilities, the MCC aims to address the urgent need for accessible and well-maintained public toilets in key areas of the city. The chosen locations for this project, namely Sector-16, Sector-19 Palika Bazaar, Sector-46/b Mini Market, and Village Dhanas, were carefully selected to cater to the needs of local residents and ensure maximum convenience for all.

He said that today’s foundation stone laying ceremony is a testament to the commitment of MCC to provide clean and hygienic public spaces for the citizens of city beautiful. These Aspirational Public Convenience facilities will not only address the immediate sanitation needs of the community but also contribute to the overall well-being and development of the city, he added.

He said that the Municipal Corporation of Chandigarh aims to complete the construction of these four Aspirational Public Convenience facilities by June 2024. The project will adhere to the highest standards of construction and will incorporate modern amenities such as child-friendly facilities, sanitary napkin vending machines, feedback machines, an incinerator, and separate sections for men, women, transgender individuals, and differently-abled individuals to maintain inclusivity and provide a comfortable and user-friendly experience for all users.

Municipal Commissioner Ms. Anindita Mitra also emphasized the significance of such initiatives in5 fostering a healthy and sustainable urban environment. She said that with the commencement of this project, the MCC is taking a significant step towards fulfilling that right and ensuring a cleaner and more hygienic Chandigarh.

She said that the Clean Toilets Campaign remains an ongoing endeavor, with the Municipal Corporation dedicated to expanding and improving public conveniences throughout the city. These efforts align with the vision of creating a healthy, clean, and accessible city for all its residents and visitors.

She further said that the Clean Toilets campaign, launched by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) on December 19 and commencing on Good Governance Day on December 25, aims to improve sanitation facilities across the country. One of the key components of this campaign is the grading of public and community toilets based on predefined parameters. By implementing a standardized grading system, the campaign aims to enhance the overall quality and cleanliness of public sanitation facilities.
