*Mayor starts the project of storm water drainage system at Sector 42*
*Chandigarh, March 13:-* With the aim of strengthening the storm water drainage system at Sector 42, Chandigarh, City Mayor Sh. Kuldeep Kumar has started the work on the project of Storm water drainage network for smooth disposal of storm water in sector 42 C & village Attawa, here today in the presence of Municipal Commissioner Ms. Anindita Mitra, IAS, Area Councillor Sh. Jasbir Singh Bunty and other prominent persons of local area.
During the event, the Mayor highlighted that this undertaking will not only enhance the storm water drainage system in the area but also prevent rainwater stagnation, ensuring a smooth passage for commuters and local residents.
He said that the existing road gullies are also inadequate, leading to blockages in the lines and improper disposal of rainwater. The stagnation of rainwater causes inconvenience to both residents and commuters. To address these issues, the installation of new larger diameter pipes, road gullies, and the construction of channels/drains covered with M.S. Gratings are necessary for effective rainwater disposal in the affected areas. This project aims to improve the overall drainage capacity of Sector-42, Chandigarh, he added.
Ms. Anindita Mitra, IAS, Commissioner, MC Chandigarh said that the MCC has allocated approximately Rs. 2.37 Crores for this project, and will be completed within six months. She said that during the rainy season, rainwater accumulates in the low-lying areas of Village Attawa Sector-42, Chandigarh, and at various locations in Sector-42 C due to smaller diameter pipelines, which are insufficient for quick drainage during heavy rain.
